My favourite yum cha on the shore. I've lost count of how many times I have come here. I can confidently say their dishes are consistent and always fresh. Their fried chicken wings are also to die for. It gets PACKED during peak hours, you are warned.
this traditional dim sum place expand their restaurant. after Beihaiyucun closed, they became the only one in Albany area.
seafood is good in dinner time. lunch is crowded. but food inproved a lot, got much more options.
don't like their service, but like their food there, we dont have many choices, right
I loved their yum cha. Would definitley recommend and would love to visit again. Their prawn spring rolls were amazing. Also loved their Custard pineapple baked buns!
I had dined in at this place several times and we always had waited for an available table because in all of those occasions the place is packed with customers, they even had tables outside the premises in front of other businesses, this is how popular this place is. Tucked at the end of William Pickering Drive, this place is not hard to find, it’s easily accessible especially for those who work in Albany. We usually dine in here on Sundays just after mass as it’s on the way home and this is what we had on our most recent visit.
Roast duck was really really impressive when it came freshly straightly out of the oven. Beaten most of roast ducks in Auckland Chinese restaurant. I also liked their egg tarts, BBQ pork cakes and fried daikon cake. What else, beef with bone was extremely yum.
Decor and dining ambiance was not very good. So don't expect a quite and orderly place to Yum cha. You need to grasp the chance and yell out to staff, I want that one! Mine! Or the last one crispy roast duck will lie on the table of someone else.
This is the BEST yum Cha place in Auckland. The portions are big & prices are good. The prawn dim sum is amazing here - the prawn pieces are massive & juicy. I’ve been coming here for the past 5 years & the prices & portion has remained similar. the customer service is pretty bad and most the staff can’t speak English but the food makes up for it 🤩🥰😍
Really love the prawn dumplings and it’s the reason why we keep coming back! Service could probably improve specially if you are seated next door and away from the main restaurant.
A close yum cha place that I frequently go to. They have really nice dumplings and staff members are really friendly. I took a while to choose what I wanted but they patiently waited and explained about the food when I asked. Would recommend :)
Come here for yumcha and the occasional family dinner. I'd recommend this place if you want some Chinese food on the North Shore. It's your typical Chinese restaurant experience
Quite a regular at this place. Not bad, good food, ok price. Good for yam cha. Service can be a struggle as not many wair staff speak English.

Reasonable priced and authentic yumcha~ Love it~ Although, the piggy bun is not runny as it should be... The other downside is that the place is tiny, and if you going there in the weekend you will have to wait for a long time...
The perfect lobster for the perfect dinner.
Service: 7/10
Don’t walk into a chinese restaurant expecting impeccable service.
The owners actually gifted us some desserts and appetisers. They are also quite friendly and like to communicate with the customers.
The food here always comes out at a reasonable pace so you never get hungry waiting.
Food: 8/10
They probably have some of the most delicious and fresh lobsters in the North Shore. The meat was tender and the noodles were chewy.
The sweet sour pork had a crunchy outside and the sauce wasn’t too strong.
The eggplant wasn’t as tender and soft as I wanted it, it should’ve been cooked for longer.
The shrimp balls were super crispy and light.
The vegetable dish contrasted the heaviness of the other dishes so it didn’t feel too greasy.
Ambiance: 6/10
The restaurant tends to get extremely stuffy and uncomfortable at dinner times, because there just isn’t enough space.
The tables are always clean and tidy with new table clothes.
The lobsters and seafood are on display so you can see that they are actually fresh.
From the outside it’s not really that noticeable that’s it’s a chinese restaurant except for the chinese sign.
This is definitely one of the best places for lobster but not ALL of their dishes are superb.
Solid yum cha option in Albany. We used to have another favourite close by which has now closed ☹️ they put extra tables outside on the weekend when other businesses close so they can get the crowd through quicker. Yum squid, and all the dumplings! Really cute themed dumplings too (animals and festive seasons).
Eaten here few times. They have wide variety of dishes. From sashimi (salmon, baby lobsters) to traditional Chinese food. Good quality food. Price is above average.
best Chinese yum cha restaurant you can find auckland. They are always busy becasue of their great taste.
Prawn dumplings and BBQ meats are great.
My favourite Yum Cha in town. But always crowded, we need wait for the table. Great food, heaps of varieties. Love the siomai, crablets and pork bun. Actually i live everything :)
Went here for Yum Cha on sunday - so busy we almost had to physically fight for the table we booked ( I seriously recommend booking!). They aren't amazing at Xiao long bao or the rice paper dumplings ( prawns and chives) or the custard tarts, but their chicken feet were amazing - plump and juicy, nice rice rolls with youtiao and rice rolls with Bbq pork, great daikon / turnip cakes, decent Bbq pork buns and shu mai. Service was half good, ambience not great, I suggest trying to get a seat outside if it's decent weather so it feels less stressed during your meal. I'd recommend this place :)
Came to Hakka Hut last week and our experience was actually pretty good. We ordered their combination BBQ platter (roast pork with crackling, roast duck, barbecued pork), sizzling beef ribs and chicken cashew. We were first served with a bowl of soup each before the main comes. Their BBQ platter was good and reasonable size for the price, sizzling beef was yum, chicken cashew was alright bit still good. We were also served a bowl of white tofu with sugar as dessert which I lovee. Will come back to try more of their dishes.
Came here today for yum char. Service was casual, walk in and look around and tables of 4-6 people. Slow service at start.
Food was on trays and not trolleys only because it is a small place.
Pork ribs were done beautifully and meaty, pork shumai was not oily at all. Har gow (prawn steam dumpling) was fresh prawn and rice roll pastry was yum.
Was different and small place but if I am going to Albany I would go there for lunch as North Sea has CLOSED.
Reasonable prices too.
Last time I ate here was two years ago so a lot may have changed. When I ate here all the food was fresh and delicious - probably my favourite yumcha place for food alone. It was also one of the cheapest yumcha places around and offered great variety. They also have a good range of teas available and don't charge you extra for different teas. The service can be a bit patchy at times especially during busy times so be prepared to get your own sauces and it is best to arrive earlier than the busy lunch hour or make a booking. Must try's are the siumai, prawn dumplings, chicken feet and prawn toast. Some other delicious items include the omasum, rice rolls, xianshui jiao, deep fried squid, egg tarts, taro pudding which almost has a creme brûlée surface, tofu sheet wrapped meat, deep fried prawn wonton, and bbq pork buns depending on your taste preferences. Some of my favourites are the sweet refreshing steamed rice cake and deep fried prawn wontons. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating on clear days. The inside can sometimes get quite cramped.
I've been here for yum cha and dinner, and while I can't remember any stand out dishes I do remember having a good experience each time I went.
Flavourful food for decent prices. Good service, but it can get busy at times. It's a good restaurant to have up your sleeve if you frequent the Albany area.
Flavours very authentic. Service is quick and efficient. Very limited seating capacity. Suggest takeaway as it can get quite busy during dinner time.
Came here for yum cha today and it was an enjoyable experience , the place is very busy so I would recommend booking in advance , the food has good taste and the prices are what are expected for good yum cha. $47 for 6 dishes with 2 drinks.
Great food and bad service.
I believe it's one of the best yum cha in north shore for food quality. If you are expecting good service, then choose somewhere else. Busy is one of the reasons, but I saw lots of other busy restaurants with polite staffs.
Have been a fan of there for about 3 years. Willing to spend 40mins on the road to have typical dim sum dishes there. All items are tasty. But booking is essential and it's better to be there by 11:30am on weekends.
Really delicious yum cha at Hak Ka Hut. As an experienced foodie in yum cha, I gotta say their standards are very high, their dumplings are very well-seasoned with a nice, smooth texture, while their pastries are also crispy and light. Downside is that it's ALWAYS really busy, booking is strongly recommended (even if you are going as a 2! Sometimes you have to share one of those large round tables with other people, which I don't really like...)

I got taken here for another work lunch. I love yum cha restaurants and hadn't been to Hak Ka before, so I was stoked to discover a new place (especially so close to work). HK had the typical dim sum cuisine and with so many of us, I got to try a bit of everything. The highlight of this place for me has to be the deep fried prawn cakes with dipping sauce. Absolutely sublime. All of the food I got to sample was delicious, though some of the dishes could've been so much better with the soy and chilli sauce provided by other similar establishments. We did request these sauces, but we were given two tiny bowls of soy sauce (between 10 people) and no chilli sauce. All in all, this was a welcome discovery and I would certainly come back here again when I feel like a change of scenery... but it wouldn't quite replace any of my go-to places for yum cha.
Delicious Yum Cha. Its always an indication of how good a place is if its always busy, so go early or late as this place gets packed.
Good selection of the usual Hong Kong style Yum Cha, tasty and filling.
Be prepared to go help yourself to chili sauce and soy as they never seem to have enough staff (out front at least) the food comes around quickly though.
Its noisy and fast paced...a good place for a work lunch.
Came here on a busy Friday night but we manage to get quite a spacious table. The food was very delicious except for the beef vermicelli pot (the vermicelli was like crumbs). Service was minimal but not rude. For dinner we had complimentary soup and dessert.
I'm surprised by the bad reviews, maybe we were lucky the day went. We came here on a Sunday for Yum Cha, it was crazy busy but we were lucky enough to get a table for two.
We took our usual favourites - shiu mai, chicken feet, prawn dumpling and bbq pork bun. And another dish with pork and egg in a black sauce.
Everything was good, I wouldn't say it's better than any other yum cha but also not worse. I did find it a bit expensive, maybe it's the yum cha prices on the shore?
Good service. Attentive owners and fast movement of dim sum waiters. Food is pretty good.. Expensive compared to south and east akl but if you live out west or north shore... It costs you more to travel east or south.
Quality is good. Food was good.. No the best But definitely pretty darn good.
Nice yumcha place in albany, but always busy. The price is comparatively cheaper than other place. I like their durian dessert very much....
I came here with my landlod and his family on a busy Saturday noon for Yum Char. Their beef meat balls taste not dry at all,but rather fresh and succulent, which is quite a surprising dish. It is believed one of the best place for Yum Char in Auckland. Despite I haven't yet tried any other Yum Char in Auckland,it did taste better than what I could get in Palmerston North(moved from PN to Auckland not a long time ago)The food is reasonably priced and the service was alright, not stood out though.
One of the best places to have cray fish, not because of the price but their experience in cooking them. We had them in sashimi and with yee mee noodles. At $260/kg you dont want anyone to mess up!
Have been here several times. Just back for lunch 3 days ago. We still like their dim sum. The quality was consistent with a good portion. Seating was comfortable and service was friendly. If you are around the area and looking for yum cha, I recommend you to try this place. I think you will not be disappointed.

Came back for dinner recently. The food was just as tasty. The quality remain consistent. Will be back.
Delicious food!!! Specially Beijing duck with pancakes, steam fish, BBQ lamb ribs, fried Tofu. Dessert tofu.... So awesome. Real canton Kejia style
Went on a Saturday for Yum Cha. Food was great. It took us a while to get served but eventually a lady came round to serve us. She gave us a pen to tick what we wanted on the menu.
The food came out really quickly and probably took less than 10 mins. We got 6 different things and total was $48.
Have been here before Covid-19. It's good to be back as there was no queue. Food still appetizing as ever and service was quick and attentive. We'll be back again.
All dishes taste nice, but especially the yum char dishes. Very large variety and all tasted fresh. Service was lightning quick for the yum char, and staff were all very friendly. Well worth coming back to.
We had a yum cha meal with friends who knew the menu well and ordered a lovely variety of dishes. Everything we had was really well made and delicious. The egg tarts were amazing. The stand out for me was the pork Siu Mai.
One of my favorite yum char places because the owners and workers are very friendly. Food is good and price is reasonable. Very hard working owners. 💪
Hak Ka Hut is an excellent restaurant. I went with my family and was impressed.
Well worth your time for an authentic Chinese banquet. Even better if one or more of your party knows the delights of Chinese cuisine.
Good experience. Would need upgrades.
Tasty food with fair pricing. Can be a bit crowded at times so be sure to call to make reservation first. Will come back again and again... Below shows pecking duck and eggplant
Currently serving the best Chinese food on the north shore, it's a BYO and the staff have limited English but the foods second to none
It's not in the photo but we loved the beef ribs!! The peppery taste was very nice. The chicken feet were a bit dry compared to other yumcha restaurants'. It's very full and busy so we couldn't get what we wanted as things would run out quickly.
