Great pies! Terrific pie and delicious custard slice. Quick service, friendly staff - this place ticked all the boxes. Yum! Nice and quick service too :-)
AMAZING PIES! Worth the 20 minutes drive from Queenstown. Had the mince and cheese and it was absolutely delightful. Flavours were all there just probably needed a little bit more gravy then it would've been perfect! Definitely going to visit this place again next time I head down south.
This charming mountain town just 15 minutes outside of Queenstown is picture postcard perfect with its cute tree lined autumnal trees, preserved historical buildings on the Main Street set against a backdrop of spectacular mountains. The town’s most famous bakery serves a variety of pies all at $6.50 each.
The steak and cheese pie is generously filled with both mince meat and chunks of melt-in-the mouth meat cooked in gravy with a layer of melted cheese.
The cinnamon bun scroll is one of the best I’ve eaten, it’s soft brioche like soft bread is smothered in cinnamon which gives it a beautiful spice.
Going up from the bus stop you'll see a flock of people eating from brown paper bags before you see the bakery. They have a huge variety of flavors although they sell out pretty quick. Pastry is top notch although filling can be on the salty side. Sit on the nearby hill and enjoy the view :)
Go here, get a pie or 10 and be happy. Lamb and mint was my standout on a cold winters day as were the steak, bacon and cheese! The lolly cake was good too!
One of the best pies that I've had in New Zealand to date. I tried the steak and mushroom pie. The pastry was flaky and crisp. This pie was filled with pieces of steak and slices of mushroom, complete with a delicious savoury peppery sauce. It is more expensive than your average pie at $6 but it's worth every cent. This is a quality pie. They've managed to get it pretty close to perfect with the ratio of pastry to pie filling. A must try in Arrowtown! They sell out of pies by the afternoon so don't miss out!
The best pies in town ! Being an avid meat pie fan , it was great to see a menu of over 15 pie fillings . The mince bolognese pie was encased in a golden , buttery puff pastry which was clearly freshly made and the filling was oozing with melted cheese ,and a cassoulet of beef mince , carrots and a rich gravy and tomato braise. 2 lovely ladies served us. Well worth the 15 min drive from Queenstown and will be returning to try all the other baked goods on display. Be sure to grab a coffee or a local NZ organic tea next door. It's great to see the traditional local bakery is still going strong in this part of the world.
Came here mainly to try the pies, but I settled for the South Island Sushi (cheese roll) instead as this was also on my list. It was my first one and I can now see why people rave about these. Gooey, stringy cheesey goodness consistency. I had another one back in QT and it did not compare. $1.50 is an absolute bargain!
Great pie. Went in there around 3pm and unfortunately didn't have a heap of selection of pies like they would have at midday. Had a steak and cheese and it was good but not in the same league as Fergbaker

I came here a couple of months ago and I loved it!!! Very friendly and polite staff, clean place, and nice food. I concur about the pies. They're so yummy :D. Thanks for serving me! Will definitely come here again :)
3 of us went for lunch, we had pies! 1 green thai chicken, 1 steak & 1 bolognaise. OMG best pies ever! We had salad with 2 and mashed potato & peas with the other. This was the best meal we had all weekend.
Fantastic, will go back when I'm in arrowtown next!
Ordered the breakfast that seemed very reasonably priced so I was not expecting too much..
The plate put in front of me comprised of sausages, bacon, home made baked beans, mushrooms, poached eggs and 2 large pieces of toast as well as a portion of butter..
I have had a lot of breakfasts cooked for me all over the world and this would have to have been one of the best.. Quality ingredients cooked to perfection.. The coffee was sensational and the service was fast and fab.. I have had breakfast here several times since and it is always the same standard.. I have also tried their pies that are just as outstanding.. Thank You very much.
If you want an inexpensive, amazingly delicious breaky on the run…. Def get the breakfast butty from here! $9.50 worth of pure bliss!!!! Already looking forward to tomorrow….!!! Yum!!!
The fluffiest, delicious proper pie. The steak and cheese is on point. So delicious had to buy a second! I’ll see you tomorrow to try your staff favourite steak and mushroom.
Recommend the Thai green curry pie! As expertly pointed out by my partner’s brother, it’s just like having a Thai green curry in a pie. (But that’s what you want).
Visited this place and we love their community. A must go to for some hot coffee or choco on a cold day. We love their Vege Calzone and my daughter loves the Croissant.
The pies were good.. Other bakery items just so so... Service is curt and fast.. Shame there is no where really to sit
Visited NZ back in October '22 and every day for the last six months I've craved their VENISON PIE.
We were in Queenstown for a week, but made every excuse possible to go to Arrowtown to grab this pie. Now I need to find an excuse to go back to NZ, may need to move there or something.
It's THAT good.
They manage to find perfect harmony between venison, gravy, pastry, and seasonings to make a pie that should easily earn them at least one MICHELIN STAR.
If you're planning a trip to NZ, it if you're a local and have never tried the venison pie, go ASAP and thank me later.
Their coffee is pretty good too, so have one with the pie.
They have lots of pastries and tasty sweet treats for everyone else.
Try the pie. You won't soon forget it!
P.S. I never managed to snag a photo of a pie because I just wanted to eat it. So I've attached a photo of the adorable little birds that came by for the crumbs.
Today my Bakery tour of New Zealand started in Arrowtown at the very well known and respected Arrowtown Bakery & Café.
I went with the Steak Bacon & Cheese and a sausage roll. (snuck in a cinnamon scroll too but don't tell the wife.)
The pie was very good. Pastry held the whole lot together well and the filling was excellent. Real slices of bacon and real tasty cheese. One of the better bacon and cheese pies I have had lately. 8/10
The sausage roll was a little spicy. I don't mind spicy so it was OK. It was a little dry and I suspect that it may have been left over from yesterday. Some tomato sauce would have helped it. Overall though, acceptable. 6.5/10.
I remembered to bring my scales with me and this is the second time I have weighed a pie. It looks like 220 odd grams is a standard for pies and 170 odd grams for sausage rolls.
Arrowtown is a beautiful historic town close to Queenstown and well worth the visit if you are ever in this part of New Zealand.
The sparrows are quite fat and arrived within seconds of me sitting in the park. They know what they are doing.
PS. The cinnamon scroll was pretty good too.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the pie was $NZ6.80 which represented excellent value.
Breakfast Butty is a must have $9.50. Delicious, made fresh.
The pies here are so good! I have tried their creamy chicken, mince and cheese, cheese toast and butter chicken. Butter chicken really stands out and it is really good(must try!) All the pastries here are so huge including their almond croissant😋. It’s perfect for breakfast!
They're famous for their pies but for us the real winner was the Creamy Mushrooms in a rosemary infused cream! Like a rich stroganoff on toast, it was delicious. The pastry and the interior of my steak pie were of great quality but I would have liked more filling and less pastry. A great cup of coffee though
The venison pie was divine.
We visited on a rainy morning and the coffees, hot chocolate and meat pies were the highlight of our day in Arrowtown.
Had steak cheese bacon pie $ steak mushroom pie for our lunch, pastry were very fresh and with chunks of proper steak meat init it was beautiful. Other menues looked delicious at affordable price.
Ordered the Full AB (cooked breakfast) and a banana smoothie. Honestly, one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had in the last 10 years. The bacon was crispy (just how I like it) and the scrambled eggs were divine. Would definitely come here again when I'm next in Arrowtown.
Not gonna look on other reviews but my experience was superb! It was a quiet afternoon and the cafe was just about to close. The cafe owner was really kind to let us order whatever they had. We offered the brownies, venison pie, something creme brulee (my friends tried them), and like a cranberry sandwich from the display. The taste of these were just so rich and I love them! Even my friends couldn’t resist getting more but too bad the cafe closed right after. Sweet memories here so I would never say it’s a tourist trap
Shame I didn’t take a photo of my smoked salmon on spicy jalapeño bagel... it was really delicious and well priced at $12. The cream of chicken pie had a nice flaky and dense pastry. It’s a small cafe w limited seating so be prepared to share tables with strangers!
Customer service was great! However the syrup with the blueberries was super sweet so the pancakes tasted like sugar cakes, the shake was also super sweet. I love sweet but it was even to much for me!!!
