29th February 2020
The food was alright, but they served bigger portions than usual so that was a plus.
Loved the chowder and the cauliflower gratin
Steak was so heavy, could not finish it, cooked medium rare. It was delicious.
On top of that, we got 50% off from first table
Will be back
I went for lunch and I had their Chicken Korma. It was the best Chicken Korma I have ever tried in NZ. Looking forward for dinner, which will be happening soon.
Good service, the food is OK. Good place for casual dining, family/friends gathering. Kids friendly (They have kid menu, but not on their website). We ordered salmon, goat, snappers and steak for main; They are OK. The cheese platter is a little bit disappointed,
We've been to The Cut 3x now. Twice for Christmas and once for Valentines. The Christmas Day lunch is amazing, the food is really good. At $139 it is one of the cheaper options in AKL for Christmas dinner. However I did think they could have made more effort with Christmas decor/music. There wasn't much of a Christmas feel to the place. The food outweighs that though, definitely worth going. The wine list is very reasonably priced for Auckland CBD, no complaints there. The bar staff are lovely too.
Love this place. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. I like the lamb a lot, have went back for many times.
Came here with my fiance and another couple for dinner yesterday. We were pleased that they had happy hour for drinks till 7pm. We ordered the sharing meat platter for two while the the couple ordered beef short ribs for two. The beef short ribs were nice and tender. The meat platter was huge and a great value for money. Taste wise, the meat was OK but personally not a wow factor. My favourites were the creamy cauliflower and the lamb. Dessert, however, was extraordinary. We both ordered the honey flan and loved it. Service was attentive and overall it was a pleasant experience.
The oysters were lovely (both baked and raw). The steaks were tender and cooked to perfection. The stand out was the cheesy cauliflower side. Service was very attentive and the ambiance was nice.
Service was great and food well presented . Plenty of drinks options
Good range of food. Value the money and used 1+1 offer. Highy recommended
Service is 5 star and the menu is nice. We ordered market fish which is hapuka and the seafood soup. Market fish is average but the chowder taste good.
Good breakfast buffet with many options including continental. There are cold meats and different kinds of yogurt aswell as breads. Theres only one option for eggs which is scrambled but I didnt ask whether there were other options. Best part was the pancakes, you get them fresh and they are light and fluffy. Staff were very helpful. Restaurant was light and bright with heaps of seating options and a private dining area.
Great food, ambiance and service.
I went with my family and everyone very much enjoyed their food. We tried the eye fillet, ribeye, lamb, pork belly, potatoes and cauliflower. The cauliflower with blue cheese was specially good! The steaks were cooked perfectly as we requested which can be a challenge for restaurants sometimes.
Unexpected very busy dinner time, this 5 stars are for the team whom handle it REALLY Well.
Hats off to the team especially Raissa and Egle
Witnessed someone fall of their chair and almost start abusing the employees here, think they handled it well, service was good and food good aswell
The food was delicious, the ambience was superb and the service was excellent. The steak and asparagus were nicely seasoned and everything was perfectly cooked. Will definitely visit again soon.
Food was decent, but in my opinion overpriced. Service was nice and prompt, and the environment is also pleasant. We ordered the share platter; the chicken was slightly dry, the lamb was very nice, the steak was decent albeit slightly under. Sides weren’t anything to write home about. I also got the mushroom soup, which tasted nice but wish it was slightly thicker, but the fresh bread was delightful.
Almost Better than Jervois Steakhouse.
Price and value wise the food exceeds jervois steak house when paired with entertainment book. The value for quality is amazing.
Bone in rib eye was cooked perfect, and they didn’t even use sous vide! Amazing grilling experience.
The meat platter was good, but the chicken little dry, chorizo way too salty like, lamb rack was average since I still make better lamb racks with my sousvide and cast iron at home. But the wagyu skirt was very tasty, firm, not chewy, yet very strong but good after taste.
The lamb shoulder was only $40. That is great value for money, excellent sharing plate for all. But waaaaaay too oily if you want it just for yourself as your own main, it’s just waaaaay too rich. But in exchange you get to enjoy the tenderness of the meat.
Vegetables were good, the chips were nice and fat and fun to eat like building blocks or jenga.
The bread entree was amazing. I’m no master chef but it seemed like whipped butter. Excellent dip. I asked for seconds.
Looking at the photos I want more.

THE BEST lamb I've ever eaten! It was recommend to us by one of the waiters and he was really helpful! The lamb was so soft ~ it was hard to stop eating even though I was already stuffed. Their complimentary kumara bread and that soft butter definitely set the tone. I would definitely come back here.
Side not: was a little disappointed with their dessert after having such a wonderful main
I didn’t really know about The CUT restaurant until I was tasked with locating a restaurant near my workplace.
Definitely a hotel-restaurant The CUT was spacious, clean and had a rather corporate feel to its lay out. We came at around 5:30pm so it wasn’t much of a surprise that the place was empty. But to my surprise as our evening went on there were more and more people. Quite a bustling place for a Monday night.
My colleagues complimented on the range of drink available, and it was nice to see that the glasses were quite full when the drinks were served.
In regards to the food, I personally ordered the Mix Grill which was an array of grilled meats. The beef was fantastic and full of flavour as well as the chicken, however I felt the lamb was quite tasteless and needed some more seasoning. The chorizo sausages had quite the fiery kick although I think they were over grilled because they became quite hard to chew.
The pork belly seems like a great choice as my colleague demolished her pork belly, the wagging burger looked filling and the beef pattie had a bit of size to it. Overall I would say the food was delicious and for the price you wouldn’t really expect anything less.
One thing which did frustrate me was the amount of times the waiters would come up to our table and ask how our meals were going. We had 3 consecutive greetings which was fine but was a little odd, like if there was a system that a waiter looked after a specific table then there wouldn’t be other waiters coming across to ask the same question. Just a little negative out of otherwise a splendid evening
Showstopper: Great atmosphere and ambience.
Overall Grade: B+
I went with first table (50% discount on the food bill) voucher which I bought for $10. I was welcomed by this lovely and friendly staff and she served us very well throughout the meal. The ambience of the restaurant is very cosy and modern
I was advised that there was kobe beef steak available on special so I ordered it instead of Wagyu steak. They provide you bread and truffle foam to start the meal with for free. The truffle foam was really good. I could taste strong truffle aroma and the bread was very buttery and soft too. I actually wanted to order some more.
My steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered medium rare but I asked it to be more towards to rare side. They cooked it just perfect. I think it was an A6 grade Kobe beef so it wasn't very buttery like a quality Kobe beef but it was very tender and juicy I enjoyed it. The mustard sauce and their red wine jus is very good too. Roasted root vegetables were absolutely cooked perfect and so good. I loved how there was a variety of different kinds of root vegetables on my plate.
I tasted my friend's Wagyu beef burger and it was really good too. It had beetroot, fried egg, pickles, patty, caramelised onions and so much more! Everything in the burger was delicious. The patty was really juicy too.
We also ordered mashed potato on side and we truly loved it. The portion size of our main meals was quite big so we were so full but we managed to finish the mashed potato because it was so creamy and scrumptious.
The bill was only $56 or something because of first table voucher. To be honest, I thought we would be served with food of less quality because we were using the voucher but we were served with very good food and service and I enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant.
I would definitely come back again to try their other menu too!
Came here for their restaurant month 3 course dinner! There weren't many people when we got here but more and more started coming later in the evening. The service was pretty good as the waitress kept refilling our water and asking us how the food was.
The seafood chowder was seasoned well and I really liked the texture because it wasn't too creamy or watery. The salmon that she ordered was a bit salty but in terms of texture, it had a nice crispy skin and it wasn't over cooked. The pork was flavored nicely as it had that roasted wine barbecue taste. The skin, although crispy, was way too over cooked as it was very hard to chew. The dessert was my favourite course - THEY DO WATER CHESTNUTS! Very very few restaurants use water chestnuts these days and they go brilliantly well with salted caramel slices. Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner.

Came here for their $55 three course menu for Restaurant Month with a friend!
For entree we had the Pork Spare Ribs and Seafood Chowder. The ribs were a unexpectedly big portion! Could almost be a main. This would have to be my favourite dish of the course. The meat was tender and I would say "falling off the bone" but there were no bones; only cartilage which were cooked soft and easy to eat. The sauce was amazing as well, full of flavour, and there were so much of it!!! I devoured the entire plate. The chowder was also creamy and not too rich; just the right balance.
For mains we got Marlborough Salmon and Pork Belly. The salmon skin was Crispy, though lacked a bit of exciting seasoning. The salmon was also cooked too well done; getting a bit tough and hard to chew. The last mouthful of salmon was a bit oily and greasy, particularly the skin. Nevertheless it was a good dish. The Pork Belly was a bit too chewy, but the skin crackling was well-seasoned--but likewise, too oily towards the end.
For dessert we got the Pear Crumble and Caramelia Tart. The crumble came with a bottle of custard (or condensed milk), which was a nice touch. The crumble itself however was too sweet and lacked the sourness to balance it out. The custard also added to the sweetness and was a bit too overwhelming. The Caramelia Tart was good! Essentially mousse Cheesecake, with hokey pokey on top and water chestnut slices on the side. Nothing to fault.
Service was good! The girl who filled out glasses and took away our plates after every course was attentive; though didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Was also a bit disappointing when I walked in and the waiter saw me and kept looking at me but didn't come up and ask if I needed to be seated...like, hello? Do you not normally do this? Am I not supposed to "wait to be seated"? Got a bit annoying waiting for a solid 2 minutes just standing there looking like an idiot so I went up to them myself and told them that I had a reservation.

Don't forget to bring your ID coz it's a bistro. I had to return home to grab my ID coz the waiter said I look like 16 ... Wagyu beef burger was pretty good! The patty was juicy and served with homemade hand cut fries! Yummm!
Ok so one word wow!!!amazing food and omg amazing coffee. Thanks for a very nice brekky. Compliments to the chef and thank you for the lovely service. Exactly what you need in the morning
I treated my partner to a weekend in the city and dinner here for his 40th birthday, the service was great, with generous sized starters. Our mains came out in a timely manner, we were satisfied enough we didn't get a chance to have desert. Will definately go back again
Very good option for breakfast (Buffet) wide variety in breads, smoothies, fruits, cereals.Smoke salmon and cheeses.Dilmah selection Teas and Great service. It is located inside the Rydges Hotel.By the ambience must be a good choice for dinner and some cocktails also.
The cut is top quality fine dining with the prices to reflect it. The food was very nice but for the price and style of the restaurant that when serving a small table of eight that the kitchen would be able to get all the meals to the table within five minutes not fifteen. Leaving one of our diners to sit and wait for dinner while the rest of us had ours. Other than that the food was nice.
My group fined here tonight as part of our farewell NZ dinner. We were in a private area which was appreciated. Salads, main courses, and deserts were all very good and enjoyed by the group. The house wines complimented the meals well. Service was generally very good except one meal was served very late. The Cut is very good choice especially if you are staying at the Rydges Hotel.
The breakfasts here are really good!! A lot of fruit, smoothies and Different types of bread. The place is very nice and the staff too.
Breakfast from 6.00 to 10.30
Good Food. We started off with a small bottle of NZ sparkling wine which was very good. Our meals of pork belly and steak were good. $5 each for oysters was a bit steep but they were very nice. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We had both selected the beef cheek pie off the menu but they had run out!
We had Christmas lunch here on Christmas Day (funny that!) and can only recommend it as a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Despite being at full capacity plus, the staff were professional, friendly and smiles abounded (something I might struggle with if having to work on Christmas Day!) The spread was very comprehensive including all traditional fare plus seafood, rare roast beef, tempting salads and way more. All the food we tried was perfectly cooked, tasty and it was very difficult not to overeat! The rest rooms were sparkling clean and well equipped - obviously receiving regular cleaning/attention throughout the afternoon. Even though another sitting was looming no-one was rushed away either, full marks to Rydges for a classy celebratory buffet meal. Will be back next year.
Though we often stay at Rydges we have not eaten at STK. Threats regarding cyclone Lusi kept us in on Friday the 12th March.... YaY.
The scallops on pork belly entree...... 5 star plus! Scallops beautifully caramelized, pork belly melt in the mouth, and the sauce - WOW! My husband said his risotto was great (i wouldn't know - not a rice fan) but the sides of cauliflower and blue cheese and then the creamed spinach with truffle oil - delicious. We finished with a dessert called a little bit of everything. 5 delicate portions of sweet heaven. The wine list is disappointing (if you like aromatics) but the serve staff are exceptional, and even brought the bartender out to me so that i could have the perfect coffee with my dessert.
It is exceptional dining. We will be baaack!
PS - dont use spell check if you use slang, its painful
Second time we have eaten here. Seriously good food! I had the Prawns as an entree and cornfed chicken as the main and my husband had the steak.. so good! Wine recommendation from the Maitre D was also spot on. We will definitely be back.
Amazing food, awesome wait staff and a surprise birthday desert. STK was amazing, best restaurant eye fillet I have ever had the pleasure of eating and the tiger prawns were to die for. Very much recommended.
This was a superb place to meet a friend for after-work drinks in the STK lounge bar. Managed to get a pay & display park right outside the door for $2 an hour - bonus (as it was pouring rain)!
The barman was really welcoming, and hinted to us that we might want to try the 'Chateaubriand' which he said was amazing (sliced at your table and charged by the gram(!). However, we weren't up for a full meal, but appreciated his warm banter & recommendations.
Instead, we simply enjoyed a lovely glass of wine, and the "NZ Cheese Selection, with honeycomb, fig chutney, swiss cheese & truffle aioli". Very tasty - especially the fig chutney.
Plus, the complimentary snacks of salted peanuts and pretzels were a nice touch to start.
It's a cosy, comfortable yet highly stylish space. Not many people were about where we were seated, so we could have great hilarious uncensored conversation as we supped on our Friday night indulgence.
Conclusion: the lounge bar at STK is a classy, relaxing space, with good wine choices, really good staff, and a great selection of casual small eats for chilling out. Next time this flexitarian might be brave and head for the restaurant end to try the chateaubriand?
Good service + fantastic food = perfect
We used our deal voucher - it was more than worth it. Seafood chowder was to die for, Kai moana for him - YUMMY, STK steak - cooked to perfection and a STK burger - WOW. Food was awesome, service was attentive, venue very clean, and decor subtle. Restaurant manager - Great. Didn't know this place existed. Overall an excellent place to dine. Would dine there again without a voucher!!!
Would recommend. Trev & Mary
We were given a voucher for a 3 course dinner for four, for a Xmas prezzy. Initially we were a bit worried about what this place would be like, but we were all pleasantly surprised - the food was fantastic, and our waitress, a lovely French lady, was attentive without being 'in your face'. We were given a fresh hot bread roll with butter to start, a really nice touch (and delicious!). Our entrees were 2x scallops with pork belly, 1x seafood chowder, and 1x baby back ribs - all were cooked so well - the portion size of the baby back ribs was very generous, so I ended up sharing some of this with the rest of our group. The mains were the lamb rump, seafood risotto, wagyu burger & I had the Wakanui beef scotch, and it was just perfectly cooked. We ordered sides, but they were not necessary....we were quite full and trying to find room for dessert. We had 3x banana pies and I ordered the vanilla bean creme brulee with poached pear. My brulee was lovely, but the surprise of the night was everyone's banana pie! It was AMAZING...just so delicious. It was topped with a huge dollop of mascarpone/cream and had a layer of banana & caramel on a biscuit base, with bits of caramel & pistachio on the plate. Just divine. All in all, a really great night and we will definitely return. Thanks guys!
The food was amazing. Comp bread to start - hot & fresh. Entree - seared scallops for me and the ribs for him - both cooked to perfection! Mains - we both had beautiful steaks, purchased sides for extra; the potatoes and heirloom carrots. These sublime mains had us 'mmmming' and saying 'this is so good'. Dessert for me was the artistic looking choc trio and creme brulee for him, again perfect. The staff were professional and friendly. I tried the Toblerone cocktail and was so pleased I did...heaven. This was a great night, will def come again for a special occasion.
Great restaurant with extensive menu and really great service and staff.
Staff made sure we had everything we needed were helpful with recommendations and provided awesome service.
The food was amazing, lots of choice.
Had a lovely three course meal - definitely recommend!
Had an early surprise dinner for my partner. It was a great place for our 3-course dinner. My partner did not utter a single word over dinner and suddenly he went, "This is why nations fight...This is why some men leave their wives for...The food here is so soooo good!"
Our Entree:
Tiger Prawns & Seared Scallops
Mains:
Eye Fillet - Savannah Fine Marbled Angus
Sapper - Daily Market Fish
Something Sweet:
Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlèe

And guess what? The next day - my partner booked a table for 6 and wanted his family to enjoy the fine quality food which STK offers.
It was an amazing dining experience. Thank you.
I decided to celebrate my b'day there as they have a very nice private dining room at the back if you don't want to be in the restaurant. They had a $38 menu promo but after reading their a la carte menu we couldn't say no to that huge selection.
The meal was absolutely superb and arrived super fast! (we were 16 people dining) and the staff was lovely and attentive.
My tips are:
Try the artichoke dip and lamb sweetbreads as entrees and choose any steak because they are fabulous!
My husband and I dined here recently and we were really impressed. The lovely refurbishment matched the perfectly cooked & presented food. Our steaks were succulent and the sides and wine complimented the steaks. Staff were really friendly and attentive. We've already recommended it to friends who also tried and loved Stk and we'll be back again ourselves.
I always buy vouchers from websites in order to try different places at a good price and this is my second time in this restaurant as they had a deal promo last year.
This time the deal is so much better than last year and I had the best meal ever!!!!
Steaks are awesome!!!! Perfectly cooked and they also brand them with the STK logo, I think it's a good touch :)
Staff was very attentive the whole time considering they were very busy!
I will come back, oh yes!!!!!!!!
Absolutely Awesome, Finally!, Auckland has a decent place for excellent steaks, cool setting..And wow...the chateaubriand served at the table is to die for..
I suggested this place for my team's lunch yesterday, and they loved it. We ordered from the express lunch menu: wagyu burger, wakanui beef steak, fish and chips, and a truffle linguine (mine). Dessert was the chocolate truffon and a lemon cheesecake.
The food portions were great. The dishes were simple but very flavourful. We also enjoyed the ambience, as it was a quiet day. It gave us a chance to chill and relax with colleagues, and we had lovely staff to take care of our requests.
Since ours was a big-ish group (8 people), we made reservations and ordered the food ahead of time. The food arrived within 5 minutes after we arrived. Would highly suggest this to reduce your wait times, especially for groups.
Highly recommend this place if you're planning ahead and if you'd like a quiet lunch spot during the weekdays.
Thank you! Our meals were not only presented beautifully but tasted delicious!
If you’re in Akland NZ, be sure to stop in for a meal! Staff tonight served up well & the most attentive to a full house. I’ll be back! Not halal, but indeed options for vegetarian only.
Loved it. I only popped in to see my friends but they couldn't have been more accommodating. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food looked unreal. I heard it was too! I can't wait to come back! The mash potato alone is worth returning for!
Very reasonable pricing of food but the lunch menu is very limited. Loved the bubblegum mocktail. We pre-ordered so food came right on time and the place was pretty much empty for early lunch. Was good to have a quiet place to ourselves with attentive staff.
Delicious food, fairly priced. We had a group of 16 and the service was great. Ciki the waitress was particularly helpful and friendly.
The steak was overcooked, so if you wanted medium, you should order the medium rare I believe.
I love the fish & chips & it's my 3rd time having it as its amazin! My hubby had the Beef burger this visit & its huge & juicy! Definitely worth the money. Staff are friendly & as it's a weekday night, the restaurant was quieter than usual but we enjoyed it more as it feels cozier dining this time round at the high table/chair area near the bar.. Definitely coming back here to dine our next visit to Auckland.
Stayed at the Rydges hotel few days for a conference. Had a buffer breakfast and a dinner.
The buffet breakfast is overrated. Selection is ok but not great. No Asian variations. Taste is what you expected but no surprise. The have an automatic coffee machine, costs extra if you order coffee from the cafe. I only found out when I paid the bill. In my opinion, not worth even with the promotional price of $28.
The foods for dinner is much better comparatively. The olive butter is a bit weird. The local oysters were ok. The lamb rump was very delicious. Overall, not bad.
The service was amazing, wait staff were all super lovely and so was the manager. The food could definitely be improved, the wok greens looked a little sad and overcooked and the fish wasn't fresh.
Overall a good experience due to the atmosphere, comfortable seating and the wait staff.
The service was excellent and our waiter was quite nice. The steak was cooked to perfection! Overall the quality of food was superb and it is reflected in the price of the meals. It was very convenient having such a good restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast the next day was also incredible, the selection of dishes, the presentation, and the quality was more than I could have asked for in a breakfast buffet!
In the spirit of Amex Restaurant Month and having been impressed with the catering from a conference held at Rydes during the day, I was excited to try their restaurant for dinner.
The restaurant is very sleek with duck egg shell blue colored walls with light wooden accents and plush grey seating. I ordered from an impressive showcasing of New Zealand reds and enjoyed a South Canterbury Pinot Noir to accompany my options from the special menu.
We enjoyed The Cut signature seafood chowder and pork cheek with pear beet slaw and pickled Brussel sprouts and the pork was so succulent and unctuous especially with a side of smoked potato mash. Followed on by corn fed baked chicken breast on yam purée, jus, Jerusalem artichoke crisps and snow peas and the crispy pork belly on kumara purée, roasted fennel and blanched kale. The chicken was gorgeous and mouth watering.
For dinner, we enjoyed a Meyer lemon cake with passion fruit meringue and chocolate opera cake with espresso mousse. It was a wonderful crescendo to the meal.
Overall, the dimming experience was wonderful for the quality and standard of the cuisine. There were inconsistencies with service between staff, where the standard servers were very polite and warm compared to the senior. This is a place I’d like to revisit and highly recommend for the cuisine.
The steak was just right.
Really loved the food
Staff was very friendly too
Very good food, large portions. The staff is very nice and helpful. Their breakfast is also amazing!
Apart from the fire alarm going off (fortunately before we got our food) was a lovely evening. We all ordered steak and they each came as ordered (MW, MR, 2xWD), staff were friendly (and apologetic about alarm). Will definitely be back
Enjoyed a really nice buffet breakfast, that came with our room at the rydges.. Our family of 2 adults and 2 kids have all different tastes in the morning, and this buffet catered for all of us..cereals, fruits, breads, spreads, cold meat, salmon, beautiful cheeses selection, smoothie variety were a good boost, strawberry, banana and choc flavoured milk were exact taste to the colour(hard to come by these days..variety of juices and tea, the pasteries were really freah. Food presentation was fantastic, food layout was also great too..decor and colour great choice. Service from all the staff was exceptional to start the day. Well done!
