Fantastic service. Lovely beef curry. Great flavour. Tender meat. Highly recommend going!! Also don't forget to get brownie. They are the best around
Really like their curry beef, well cooked beef with tomato and very spicy curry! Nice combination and flavour! It’s very hot. I like it! Coffee from next seat smells pretty good as well!
Super friendly, great service. Even better the food! We had the all day breakfast. Very generous on the hollandaise- which gets this review a 5 by itself! Coffee was yum and the baby approves of the savoury muffins. We were pleasantly surprised with this place and glad we switched cafes. We will be back to try the Malaysian food!
I absolutely love this restaurant. Coming from a place with tons of Vietnamese restaurants, we are particular about our pho, banh mi, and Vietnamese coffee. Carram converted us to their delicious menu instantly! Authentic, elevated in its dedication to rich pho broth, decadent hand-made meatballs, and delightfully EVERYTHING roti, we were swooning with sumptuousness. We ordered cannai roti and chicken curry, pho bo and pork banh mi, and vietnamese coffee (get it with the sweetened condensed milk and iced for a pre-dessert treat! Speaking of dessert treats, don't miss out on their white chocolate brownie -- I call them blondies). The banh mi was so delicious I ordered another chicken banh me to sop up both my curry and my partner's pho. The roti deserves its own fan page. I can't wait to come back to try the beef mamak!
Lovely food, with two separate Malaysian and Vietnamese menus ( my favourite Asian cuisines!) the lemongrass chicken salad was a large portion, and flavours were balanced nicely. The Vietnamese coffee was served traditionally in a filter pot with the condensed milk underneath. Friendly staff who were eager to give recommendations.
I came yesterday and the spring rolls were pretty good. Then I tried a bowl of Pho, It worth the money. Highly recommendable! I wait not too long to have my delicious lunch. Thanks for the good service!
Went for lunch in Devo and saw a cafe that sell Vietnamese food and was curious so I gave it ago and boy was I delighted I had the bun mi and my bro had some noodle and we really enjoyed it. Great food and thanks to guys who served us will be back to try the Vietnamese coffee next time
Highly recommendable. Unbeatable service in Devonport. I go there nearly every day for the country tunes and eggs benedict and coffee. James is a talented chef and knows a lot of customers by name.
Had Chicken Laksa there and it was absolutely delicious and a very good value for the money! The 2 guys that worked there were also extremely friendly and helpful! I'm going to try to visit them again before I leave NZ.
Just good all round special breakfast 🍳...the special is a good deal !!...bacon and eggs and coffee for $12 ...in the morning .../and quick as I was in a rush ‘...generous portion s for this special breakfast ....which sets them apart from the rest of the cafes doing special breakfasts ...( others often scrimp and charge you extra for butter ect ,,and don’t give you enough ),,good effort boys !!..see you soon !🍳👍
Friendly staff with a good selection of appealing food and drinks. Caters well to all the different reasons you want to go to a cafe - quick coffee, stop, brunch, morning or afternoon tea, grab and go or dine in lunch. Would recommend
It’s a lovely place with the most delicious malaysian food and very friendly staff! I definitely recommend coming here if you visit Devenport, even just for a coffee.
Best deal in village for breakfast. Bacon and eggs with free coffe. Breakfast was amazing and organic coffee was so good. Surely gonna come back.
Amazing food, service and coffee! Had vegan salad which was amazing, so filling, fresh and tasty. The coffee which they make themselves was amazing too! Just the right strength. Similar to Atlas Power Coffee. Will recommend this place
We Came to explore to devonport, chose randomly Carram, bacon and eggs... Pouched with toast..wonderful
My Wife said the best and i Believe her !!
Great relaxed atmosphere.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.
The food is a choice of European and Malaysian and very wholesome.
Discount for naval personnel is also a bonus.
Great sunny spot for lunch with outdoor seating. I come here weekly and the roti is the best I've had in NZ , fresh and flaky, for $6 it is a steal! James and the staff always make you feel welcomed. Would highly recommend for your next stop in Devonport!
We were enjoyed walking in Devonport and we've found this restaurant accidentally which we have no regret to walk in for our late Sunday lunch. All the meals are very tasty specially the Asian foods which are very original ... Keep it up !
Just had the most amazing brunch, everything was as delicious as it looked. My personal favourite were the soft and light corn fritters. We just couldn't stop eating, food so yummy.. must must try.
Adore the build your own breakfast option, coffee was Devine. The house carrot cake was particularly good. The decor and service was spot on.
Recommend everyone to go and try delicious food and coffee 👌. Especially beef curry. Excellent service and great price. Really enjoyed and wanna go again with frens for coffee
Excellent service and friendly staff. Food was delicious and the coffee was amazing. We will definitely be back and will be telling all our friends about this place.
Excellent Cafe and lots of Food options. Portion size is big which is a plus. Great area too. Would recommend the Beef Curry for brunch or Omelette. YUM!
Nearly walked past....But so pleased we stopped. lovely people (in particular the young man I think from Nepal) and fantastic food. My wife had the Chicken and Spinach Filo which was delicious and I had the Mamak Beef Curry which I can truly say was the BEST I have had for a very long long time. Just to put my comments into context that evening we ate at the Ostro Brasserie and the following evening at O'Connells Bistro which as expected were both excellent. (Whish the Carram Deli was in Hampshire UK).
I've just finished eating here and so pleasantly surprised. Had the beef Mamak curry and it was divine. Others at the table had the laksa and also said it was delicious. Prices were really good and no surcharge on a public holiday! Staff really nice. Will certainly be back soon.
Excellent cafe! Best in Devonport for value, friendly staff, good coffee and yummy cabinet and menu food. Recommend the date scone and the $5 sandwiches
Best turmeric latte I have ever had and lovely cafe with delicious salads and savouries. Good customer service. Perfect place to have a lovely cup of coffee.
The best beef curry in 12 years of my life in NZ. Tender beef with rice. Excellent all the time.
Can't wait to bring the family.
The burger is also the best in Devonport 120gms of clean lean mince @$12.... better than all the burgers on offer in Devonport. .. I am a local and work in the village and have tried them all. ... add $3 for seasoned spuds... just amazing.
Staff are very friendly. Happy to customise dishesto suit.
Took a ferry looking for a quick small bite and a coffee and left having second breakfast including an incredible date scone. If you’re looking for a tasty brunch place with great options than you will not be disappointed. Great bakery and incredible coffee as well. I’m glad the crowd inside drew me in.
Great prices and friendly service by the owners as well. Wish I had time to have another breakfast.
Great coffee in a generous cup with tasty reasonably priced food served by friendly staff.
$10 kids menu - this is the kids French toast - comes with cooked banana and bacon

Fantastic restaurant! Pho is amazing and authentic (didn't survive long enough for a pho-to!). Banh mi is so good that after I ordered (and devoured) one, I had to order another! Highly recommend the pork banh mi, roti cannai with chicken curry (oh my gawsh, the chicken curry had all the flavorful spices and a to-die-for delectable roti: fluffy, crispy, tender -AND chewy?!- hand made and grilled, how in the world can such a contrast of textures exist in such a perfect flatbread? How can it soak up AND still retain its integrity after immersion into the delicious chicken curry?!).
Aaaaand, finally, after searching most of North Shore, DELICIOUS and true vietnamese coffee! I finally had it iced like I remember! I had to take a picture of it, because it was too good to be true! Well, it was too good to not indulge! Pairs well with their popular white chocolate (blondie) brownie. Sigh... returning for the beef mamak that I've yet to try!
Went this afternoon with my mum. The man at the desk was very friendly. Not super noisy. The roti and curry was yummy, and I am thankful they let me have a vegetarian curry instead of chicken. I would love to go back and try the baking - the food in the cabinet and the brownies on the counter look delicious.
I had the Malaysian chicken curry and 2 roti... they were both DE-licious! Home made, authentic and a really good price. Staff were very helpful and friendly. This is not a fancy restaurant, but who needs that when you get great food at a good price?
I’m a big fan of coffee, a huge fan of a breakfast and absolutely love great service. Some places can usually manage 1/3, 2/3 but rarely and I mean rarely hit the big 3/3 for me. Carram deli & cafe in Devonport with its big windows, and inviting light interior is a place you need to patronise if you want all three.
From the warm friendly greeting from both server and chef to the last fork full of sauté potatoes and final sip of coffee it screams quality.
I ordered a ‘tall black’ coffee and the BIG breakfast and took a seat, coffee and a glass of water were promptly placed upon table while I listened to the sizzling bacon, mushrooms with fresh thyme and sauté potatoes being cooked and enjoyed the music, a cool mix of 50/60s R&R. I’m not usually a big fan of taking photographs of my food as I tend to order when I’m hungry and therefore being a generally impatient pom like to get stuck in. In this case however a photograph was required and posted on Facebook as friends back in the UK need to visit NZ just for the breakfast at Carram, it’s completely worth the 28 hour journey.
The mushrooms, bacon and potatoes are joined by chorizo sausages, a heap of streaky bacon, grilled tomatoes and a couple of perfectly poached eggs on toast, as well as some home made tomato relish. It’s delicious, everything on that plate was delicious and try as I may to sip the water and coffee in between each mouthful as to make it last longer it was soon abandoned so I could just eat and enjoy it. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. 3/3 and all 5 ⭐️ on every review site possible.
I’ll see you again tomorrow btw!
Great food, great prices, great service.
My favorite cafe in New Zealand.
I'm a regular at this cafe and love it. Wonderful coffee and sweet treats. Salads and sandwiches are fantastic too. A couple friendly young guys run this place.
Awesome food and well priced... chicken salad was amazing an fresh very friendly staff.
Best Malaysian food we have encountered outside Malaysia. Good coffee too. Friendly service and good value. Also serves western fare.
The beef curry here is THE best curry I've had in New Zealand and one of the best ever anywhere. James also has an Indian restaurant in Birkenhead called Mulan which is also excellent.
Great service, very tasty food, great coffee. Brilliant price. Highly recommended for a quick snack or a lasting meal.
Amazing food, full plates and great service
Excellent value and great food as usual but will miss James and the family when they leave Monday but will be sure to go and see them up at Mulan in Birkenhead.
