We stopped by for lunch to try their restaurant month menu. It didn't look like they were offering it so we ended up just ordering off the menu. They had a normal menu as well as a specials menu. We grabbed a few things to share and the waiter was surprised at the amount of food we had ordered.
The curry chicken was nice. Similar to other South East Asian curries in flavour. We opted for bread but you could have had it with rice too. The papaya salad was right and refreshing but I was hoping for the dressing to be a bit bolder with its flavours. It had a nice amount of chicken and prawns. The Bahn Mi was interesting. The flavour was ok and it was served with a pretzel baguette so the crust wasn't as crispy and flakey. The meat was ok but the veggies were drenched in some sort of brown sauce so it was hard to tell if they were pickled or not. The stuffed squid was cooked really well, it was almost like a sausage due to the softness of the squid. The pork and prawn pancake was nice. The pancake was nice and crispy. The dipping sauce was a bit disappointing though, again lacking the flavour bomb that gives it nice sweetness and saltiness.
The best part was the desert. The green rice panna cotta was silly and had a really unique and tasty flavour. I wasn't a big fan of the berry coolie due to the seeds but it did go well with the panna cotta. The banana sago was nice too. The coconut soup with the sago was quite light and sweet. The bananas were just bruleed so you didn't really get a big hit of banana flavour in the sago itself.
The place wasn't very big but did have a fair number of tables. The staff were friendly and nice. It is a nice place for some tasty food.
We had dinner here early on a Saturday evening. The spring rolls were the best we’ve both ever had! Deliciously crispy and packed with flavour. For main we had the beef noodle salad and the ribs. Both were divine! Very reasonably priced (especially for the CBD!) with friendly staff and great happy hour deals, with happy hour on Saturday being the entire night!! Definitely recommend.
Pho and the beef noodle salad - portions were relatively generous, staff were attentive, and the food was tasty. Would be a good place for lunch during the working break hours.
Got the classic beef pho and it didn't disappoint. Really good overall sott with a nice interior setup. The food was good too and pretty affordable. Would definitely come back to try other dishes too.
Been here for lunch and dinner, they make really great cocktails – and their happy hour drinks are very cheap ($6 for wine / $10 for 2 Heinekens). Their fried spring rolls are served in a unique way as they come out almost flat, with a side of plain noodles that goes nicely with the spring roll dipping sauce. If you’re after something not so large, I recommend this dish. Their pho is yummy too. Usually busy during peak dining times. Service is great.
The food is always amazing here and the menu selection is huge! I've eaten here many times and am yet to be disappointed. Very authentic South East Asian flavours and very fast with serving time.
Absolutely excellent!! As soon as you enter you know you've made the right choice with the decor and music. Once seated the service is excellent (we had Huyen - she was lovely!). The Indochine cocktail tasted great, then the food arrived which was even better. The place is small and cozy, but I have no doubt this place will only get bigger as more people find it. I almost don't want to share!
Tasty, fresh food, good service and $10 cocktails at happy hour - what more could you ask for! My only suggestion would be that it would be great to have some vegetarian options for the larger plates but lots of veges choices for smaller plates and salads make up for this somewhat.
I’ve not had a decent crispy tasty Vietnamese pancake since we got back from travelling there so you can imagine my delight when this one made me relive my food memes from Hoi An!! And the pho was amazing also.
Decor is clean, lively albeit small but it’s a groovy place for a bit to eat and drink.
Would definitely rate this for Vietnamese food and drop in again.
Came in for lunch on Friday 10th August with a work colleague
We ordered the pancake with shrimp and pork, pork baguette and the pork steamed bun.
Pancake: Tasty ingredients inside the salad was refreshing. Just a bit hard to eat off a folk as it didn't stick together very well, Pork Baguette: perfect except the baguette could have been softer Pork Steamed Bun: I like how it was a turnover bun not just a bun with a small amount of meat inside
I would recommend coming here for a cheeky lunch catch up with friends - The Vodka Sours are tasty and they have 2 for $10 Heineken in happy hours.
The food and cocktails are delicious!
the flavours in the food are fresh and light and the ambience is great. This place is a hidden gem right in the CBD with affordable prices and great food.
Great food and ambiance, convenient location from work, very nice and friendly staff. Tried the Combination of Pork Bahn Mi and Prawn and Pork Goi Cuon and it was delicious. The salad and the rice paper rolls tasted fresh and aromatic and the Bahn Mi was flavourful and tasty. Good dining experience for me - healthy and satisfyingly filling.
It's amazing how much is closed in downtown Auckland on a Sunday night. But you can rely on Indochine to be open and to serve really tasty food. I love the environment here; the staff are lovely and it's always an adventure to try something new on the menu.
Staff and service were great. Food not disappointing but not awesome either. A lot of similar flavours the beef and pineapple skewers and the chicken skewers were good. Would go again
Came here for another restaurant month adventure.
It was $40 for a three course. For entree we got the Rice Spring Rolls and Charcoal chicken skewers.
It was a bit awkward since it came in 3's and there were two of us but anyhow. The skewers were really dry and lacked flavour. The spring rolls were decent but not enough prawns and Pork; too much of the vermicili. The dipping sauce was nice though.
For mains we had the crispy tofu salad and the Pork Belly soup. I enjoyed the salad! The tofu was Crispy without being greasy, the salad dressing was really good and the peanuts really accentuated the textures.
The soup was beautiful! The sweet, sour and savoury complimented each other really nicely, and the Pork Belly was cooked nicely. Would've liked more verimicilli with it though because there was too much soup left over and nothing to eat it with.
For desserts we got Black sticky rice pudding and Sago pudding. Both were similar in terms of texture, yet distinct. The black sticky rice was accompanied by berry coulis and yoghurt, so it was more sour.
The sago pudding was more sweet, but was definitely not overwhelming; rich and creamy. Desserts were definitely the highlights of the course.
Portions were small though.
Price: 8/10
Food: 7/10
Ambience: 9/10
Service: 8/10
They offer $40/ pp 3 course dinner& plus a beautiful cocktail!
Love their exotic interior and delicate food. My friend and I shared all the plates and all of them were yummy. My favorites were the rice paper roll and their dessert! Would go back for those super yummy little sweet things!
In terms of the service.. seeing our food comes out from kitchen with no one serves it to us was a bit tantalising. It was not really busy and most of the dishes were kind of delayed to serve to diners. Plus the waitresses never refill the water unless we asked to.
Quiet, intimate, reasonably priced and unreal fresh Vietnamese food! A couple of beers on tap and a nice wine selection. Stoked we stumbled upon this place on our one night in Auckland and would definitely recommend.
Great service and good food. Was here for a work lunch. I had the green papaya salad. It was flavourful and had the perfect texture (crunchy from the crispy lotus stems and fried shallots). They were very generous with the prawn and chicken in the salad. The viet herbs were fresh and aromatic. I was satisfied with the portion size. Well worth the price. My friends had the combination summer rolls and banhmi. They said it was good too.
On arrival last night, 1st impression was we fall in love with the decor, though the size of the outlet was quite small and cozy. The servers were very welcoming, helpful, and attentive, and friendly. We ordered quite a lot of "SMALLER" plates to try as we would like try more dishes. They were tasty.
There were 4 things that made us decided not to give full marks (5.0 points) here. (1) the broth of Pho Bo is a little bit bland. (2) We understand that this is a Tapas Bar, but for the portion size they served, the price can come down a little bit. (3) This is not their fault but the way the outlet was setup, going to toilet is quite awkward. Have to go outside into the street, go next door, the server opened the door, before "do your business" (4) Carparking can be quite hard unless you have your own private carparking space nearby.
Really enjoyed this place! Some great vegan and vegetarian options too. Delicious cocktails and at a sweet price for happy hour. The rice rolls are SUPER yum. Would definitely come back and recommend. Not the best place for a big group though, logistics wise it's fine, but just food and drinks took quite a while to come out. Better for smaller groups or date night!
Had the pho before. Great flavour. Today I had small plates and the caramelised pork belly as a large plate. To be honest the small plates were quite good but the 'large plate' was highly disappointing. The portion was ridiculously small. 5 pieces of small bits of pork. That is some super expensive pork. What a let down. Up your portions.. You charge enough to add 2 to 3 more pieces! Good flavour but quite expensive all round for what you get.
The food, cocktails and service are fabulous!!! Will definitely be back next time I'm in Auckland. Ate the food too fast to take a photo 😉soooooo good!!
There are so many Vietnamese restaurants in Auckland but Indochine Kitchen is serving truly authentic Hanoi street food! I've read the reviews here and people have mistaken the taste of the North ( Hanoi) and South ( Saigon ) Vietnam! As I've checked on their website it's said Hanoi street food.
How ever eating here remind me of the local street food in Hanoi Quarter and I am highly recommend
Bun Cha and Pho beef are my favorite.
Im Vietnamese and this is by far my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The decor and ambient was warm and cozy. The food was absolutely amazing. Tasty and fresh, however the portion is a bit small. Staffs and Joe are really nice and welcoming. Definitely recommend to my friends and family!
The food was brilliant. Great South Asian fusion food. The price is acceptable, only a few bucks more than just casual eats.
Service was OK. We had to call the waitress to top up the water for us.
Inside was dark, but the decoration was nice. Great place for a date, for friends to catch up.
Indochine kitchen offers tapas style Vietnamese food. So expect small portions with some larger dishes to share.
The place has very cool funky decor which I quite like and the food was quite good. Although i found it a little on the expensive side.
We ordered a few items to share. The highlight for me was the papaya salads and their lemongrass chicken. The squids, the springrolls and the prawns were alright.. but they weren't anything special.
The service was quite efficient and quick. The wait staffs were friendly and helpful.
Overall it was a good experience and might go back for more papaya salads
Came here after being recommended by one of my vietnamese friend. Yes, it is really an authentic vietnamese restaurant in Auckland. The food taste really good! The service was also excellent. Recommended to try. Had pho bo and bun cha 😄
Indochine kitchen and I have been like ships in the night, finally I was free to visit and they were open. We took our 3 year old along and she perched on a bar stool like us but the high tables mean the restaurant is not toddler friendly. The menu is arranged into small medium and large dishes. We started with fresh prawn rolls, which were fresh and tasty. They came with a flavourful dipping sauce with lots of fish sauce and chilli. Chicken thigh skewers had a beautiful chargrilled flavour with a moreish mix of salt pepper chilli and kaffir lime leaf shreds. The chargrilled theme continued with the bun cha, vermicelli noodles salad and spring rolls accompanied by a soup belly pork and pork mince cake. The combination of chargrilled meat sweet sour and chilli was light and very tasty. The last dish we ordered was the beef pho. Pho is one of my favourite foods of all. I found the soup a little subtle for my tastes. Perhaps it suffered from following up after such strong flavoured dishes but the abundant fresh herbs in the soup failed to deliver the oomph I hoped. I found the food to be very very good, a top pho would have won them a 4.5, as it was Indochine got a well deserved 4.25
If you like the fresh taste of Vietnam, then you will love Indochine Kitchen.
A group of four (myself included) came along to try out the Restaurant Month Deal - 3 courses for $25.
We got to try everything - and while the food is in smaller sizes, they're perfectly proportioned for sharing with a group.
Just couldn't fault the meals - the bun cha was delicious, and the rice rolls were fresh and flavoursome.
Service was friendly, the staff are very attentive.
Make sure you book, because they don't have a lot of room and they fill up quick - you may knock into the elbows of others!
great atmosphere bring you to Vietnam. small share plates full of asian herbs and spice. the most expensive rice I have ever had. $4 each small bowl
Great Vietnamese tapas place! The set menu they have is great value for the amount of food you get.
The serving sizes are small as everything is made for sharing so you do need to order quite a few plates in order to get full.
The red meat dishes are definitely stronger than the others on the menu. Great flavours and amazing blend of spices. All the food here have so many spices but they manage to combine them all smoothly.
The deep fried spring rolls are my favorite! Super crispy and yummy!
The only thing is this place is small and the seating mainly consist of high stools so it isn't the most comfortable dining experience.
Such a cute little Vietnamese fusion joint on Fort Street. Menu has lots of delicious sharing plates and drinks, great for lunch or dinner!
We went there on Wed night around 6pm and they were quite busy already! We went to try the set menu from AKL restaurant month deal - 3 course meals for $25. The place looks really cosy and funky. Service was really nice and friendly.
Food came in small portions, more like tapas size. We had prawn rice rolls and chicken thighs skewers for entree. Rice rolls were alright, nothing special about them. The skewers were tasty and had nice smokey smell and taste. We ordered banh mi with pate which is grilled baguette with pate for extra. We loved them!! The pate was so yummy - peppery and tasty!!
For main we had bun cha which is charcoal pork belly and pork mince served on noodle and sour soup/sauce - this was my favorite for the night! And we had Hanoi style pho with beef. This was the let down dish because the broth was so bland! We had to seasoned with chili and fish sauces, beef were tender though.
And dessert - panna cotta with berries ice cream/gelato was a good ending for the night!
I might go back again to try other dishes since the taste was pretty good and not that fusion like other restaurants try to do with Asian food.
Have been wanting to visit Indochine for a while - there are so many great new spots on the upgraded Fort Street
We each tried a cocktail to begin - the Indochine Cocktail & a kind of Virgin Mojito with lychee. Both really nice.
We decided to order a range of dishes - summer rolls, tofu & prawn. Very well made & nicely balanced. The sauce was great with it too. Would be nice to have more prawns but not a deal breaker & the prices are very reasonable.
We also ordered the chicken & lemongrass which was good - slightly spicy. The chicken skewers was our final dish - they were nice but lacked any real flavour. Added some of the chilli sauce though that is freely available.
Service was really good - looking forward to visiting again to try more of the menu.
Indochine is one funky dark restaurant. Serving up great Veitnamese food and decent cocktails. This place is perfect for dinner and pre drinks before hitting town! The fried & fresh rolls were devine and the duck salad were my picks. Look forward to the next session at this hip restaurant!
Came here last Thursday evening. The place was very quiet which seemed unusual.
However it was raining and not the best sort of evening to be walking the streets looking for somewhere to eat.
However we were greeted enthusiastically and quickly seated and wine was ordered.
The food was absolutely delicious. It's so nice to be able to share lots of small dishes tapas style. So many flavours and all that we chose were so good. If there was more room in our stomachs we would have kept ordering.
Bye the time we were ready to leave there was a nice buzz in the restaurant with extra customers braving the weather.
Thank you for a great night Indochine Kitchen.
Came here for Friday lunch with colleagues! Food was delicious. Unfortunately it gets a bit crowded and with the indoor set up its a bit too crowded and there's no good flow to pay and for the waitress staff to get to their customers! But the food was good. Will be back again.
I had high expectations for this place but the food was disappointing and the portions were small. Beef pho had so much ginger in the soup it was all I could taste, and the noodles itself were weird - maybe not cooked enough and was tasteless. Not the pho I was craving.
The restaurant is tiny and my back was almost touching the person sitting behind me.
The service was good and the location is good, but probably not somewhere I'd go back.
I love how this place is designed. It's small and dimly lit with photos on one side and a mural of a lady painted on the other.
It feels warm and welcoming.
We ordered beef pho and the green papaya prawn salad.
Portions are a good size for the price. For the prawn dish I would have liked to pay slightly more for more prawns as I felt like 4 small prawns were maybe 2 prawns too few.
The pho is the best pho I have ever tasted. The stock is extremely flavoursome and the beef tender and tasty. I will definitely be back to try more as I found the flavours to be just as I like them.
Went here for the first time with a few friends and the food is incredible! We ordered tapas so we got to try a bit of everything. We got pork belly which was melt in your mouth goodness!! Got a few chicken dishes and everything was delicious and filling. It was good value for money and the excellent attentive service was the icing on the cake for this outing. Kiri was the waiter looking after us and he was incredible! I would recommend this place to friends and family for the high quality flavoursome meal and the high standard of quality of service!
Good service and a lovely ambiance. Modest food portions but fresh and tasty. A good combination of fusion flavours. Tried most of the options on the menu, thanks to the recommendations from the staff.
I can only say it's okay. The service was a bit chaotic. The spring rolls are nice. Beef salad is yummy too. We tried the red rice which is interesting. But I have to say the BBQ tofu salad tasted like lemon flavoured dish washing liquid...plus it's really spicy. And we asked the staff they say the dressing has only lemon juice and sugar....
Love this place - it's great for a cheap tasty bite. The food is mostly great, I've only been disappointed with the prawns which didn't taste that fresh. The rest of the food is delicious though. A great cheap eat in downtown Auckland!
Indochine is a small restaurant near Britomart, an easy location for a quick post-work catch up. The best thing about Indochine is the three course dinner menu at just $25 per person, which makes the food choices quick and non fussy. . The portions were on the smaller side, so it's a good place if you want to chat more than eat. We would have sat on the high table by the wide open window but it was chilly when we visited. Loved the mural on the wall, though. It's a good place to try out for an experience, but probably won't return again in a hurry.
Nice setup - modern interior and great location downtown
Friendly and helpful service
Small venue
Had a bit of everything; all was overall good. Have to say favs were lemongrass chicken with spicy rice and papapya salad which was very fresh and tangy. Food was not fusion but almost traditional but served in a tapas kinda way, priced similarly so.
3.5 Yums
Indochine is one of those small, classy bar/restaurants in the CBD. As you would expect from such places, the meals are more style over substance. All of us ordered the lunch menu combo which is a banh mi with a side salad and spring rolls. The food was really good but nowhere near filling enough for us guys. Probably good just to come here for the drinks and have some food on the side (rather than the other way round).
This place is a little gem! Stumbled across this place today as was looking for a cheap and easy place to lunch. Food is great, can't fault the service. The Bahn mi and rice paper rolls are awesome.
Had a wonderful meal here. Came here for a birthday dinner, and we were all surprised by both the price, the authenticity, and how amazing it all tasted. Half the group ordered individual dishes while myself and a few others order the $25 set. It is definitely worth getting. I got the chicken skewers, the pork noodles, and the coconut & mango sticky rice. The appetiser and main were so incredibly flavoursome... the meats all perfectly cooked. The dessert was so subtle but perfectly yum! I also ordered a non-alcoholic lychee cocktail which was such a surprise too! The only downside is that we had to wait quite some time for dessert as it seems it was forgotten, but it was worth it in the end. All in all a yum, authentic experience. Everyone was happy!
Teeny little place on Fort st. We came here for lunch and it was buzzing with people. We got a mixture of the pork/chicken set meals for around $14. They were pretty good meals for a light lunch. A banh mi, a salad and some fresh type spring rolls. A nice little bit of food but just not enough for a guys' feed.
Really good food. Nice flavours and good service. We had the prix fixe set menu with 3 courses for $25 each which I felt was extremely good value for the quality and quantity of food we received.
Very cute place on Fort Street. We got seated by the window which was a good spot to relax and enjoy some fresh air. Banh mi has a very nice and crunchy texture, however it does not taste as authentic and had a bit too much spice in it for my liking. The beef stew is very nice. Overall service was good and staff is very friendly
Great lunch spot for downtown! Delicious and quick meals and good selection of drinks...
Had the combination meal with Bahn mi and rice rolls! Tasty dipping sauce and salad also served with this meal.
They have a loyalty card scheme running too which is great news as I will definitely be visiting again. Go for an early or late lunch during the week as this place is packed and for good reason!
This place has great, refreshing Vietnamese cuisine. It's located on Fort st, however, it is quite quiet and nice having the breeze coming in if you sit by the window. The dishes were served quickly and presented very well!

Despite having the entire August to make the most of the cheap deals for Auckland Restaurant Month, Indochine Kitchen was the only restaurant that I managed to visit. Serving Hanoi-style street food, Indochine Kitchen is part of the pedestrian shared space on Fort Street and one of the handful of restaurants doing a very affordable three course dinner at $25 per person.
Food is great, but the service can be a bit more attentive. Slow to realise that we had walked in and sat down at tables to order post the lunch rush. Staff had to be flagged to come over. Felt like the waitress was generally distracted, since she got my companion's order wrong. Was remedied easily enough, but had to be flagged down again for a drink refill. So an ok experience this time from a service perspective. Their rating is nudged higher because of the food.
Me and my boyfriend went there for a dinner date last night. I really like the style of the resataurant, especially the large print of the Vietnamese woman on the wall and the hanging lights. The staffs are friendly and helpful. We got the Restaurant Month special 3-course menu which is 25per person. The food all presented well and taste good. Except the portion size is a bit small. We also ordered the Lychee&Lime Soda which is refreshing and Vietnamese coffee. This is our first time to try Vietnamese coffee, it taste quite unique because the way how they mix the coffee with condensed milk. We really enjoyed our dinner, will definitely come back again.
Indochine is a great lunch option for people who are working downtown and want something fresh and healthy.
I had the combination goi cuon (rice paper rolls) and banh mi. At $13 it is a great way to sample both dishes and overall quite filling. The rice paper rolls were very fresh and had a great crunch to it. The prawns were nice but I couldn't taste the pork. The dipping sauce is really tasty but wish there was more of it. The half banh mi was much bigger than I expected but there wasn't enough filling in it. The baguette itself had a great crunch to it but it definitely isn't the best banh mi I've had.
The restaurant itself is very small and can get very busy during lunch time, but the service is great and I will be back to try out the other lunch dishes!
With Winter getting me down I'm looking forward to Summer when I can comfortably sit outside at Indochine Kitchen again.
This Vietnamese restaurant is a wicked week day lunch spot with a ridiculously good value combination of Goi Cuon and Banh Mi on offer for $13. The Banh Mi is possibly the best I've tried with a bit of kick from the chilli and a divine depth of flavour in the pate. Paired with three Goi Cuon (rice paper rolls) it makes for a very filling and very fulfilling lunch.
I've also tasted the cocktails, they're not incredibly moreish but they are a good quencher. I would taste again.
Wasn't impressed by the online menu so was a bit weary of going there tonight. One look at the menu there changed my mind. It had a lot of stuff on it that was missing from the online scanned pages.
I got the rice rolls and chicken skewers as I wasn't too hungry. The chicken was amazingly tender and rolls were appealingly fresh. Had a sip of my friend's Vietnamese coffee and I think I might definitely visit this place again!
Went here for a work lunch - wish I had brought my phone! All the dishes were so well presented!I had the rice paper rolls with a small side salad and they were delicious! The different dishes I saw ordered all looked good too. While my dish was great and fresh, it was not overly filling. Within a couple of hours I was quite hungry again. I think next time I may get a combination option which includes a lovely freshly baked chicken roll as well.It was very crowded which made things difficult when it was time to pay and get out but the staff were friendly and attentive.I will definitely be going back :)
Wow, this place is such a good find! A small little restaurant but the food they serve packs a big punch when it comes to flavours.
The name of the restaurant kind of implied to me that their cuisine is somewhat another east asian "fusion" type. Well I couldn't be more wrong with this assumption. They are modern Vietnamese and the flavours are so authentic! It's such a nice change from the "fusion" type cuisines that seems to be popping up every where at the moment. These guys modernised their dish (in a good way - tapas style servings that is meant for sharing) and yet managed to stick with their roots and deliver you the authentic Vietnamese flavours you crave for.
We went here for dinner and had the chicken skewers, the grilled pork belly with noodles, the green papaya salad, the crab cakes and the organic red rice. It's easy to say that there was nothing we did not like. Each dish are unique in flavour (I always hate it when you order a number of dishes from a restaurant and they all taste very similar due to heavy use of the same ingridients throughout their menu) even the organic red rice. The red rice looks plain, but it had a very "savoury and toasted" like flavour to it. A very different texture also, more like wild rice than white rice texture. It's hard to pick a favourite, because we loved each one of them, but if I really have to. It will be the grilled pork belly and then the green papaya salad.
The manager served us (did not catch her name, I forgot to ask), she was most helpful when we asked her about the menu. She knew the menu ver well as one would expect, but too well that kind of left me feeling like she'd played a part in designing the menu. She was very pleasant and patient. My friend was asking a lot of question and was really testing her knowledge and she did not dissapoint. Two thumbs up for a great customer service.
This place is certainly a gem! If ever you are around Customs St/Fort St area while in Auckland City, make sure to make time to pay this place a visit. You will not be dissapointed.
Loved this place. Tasty drinks (the indochine and lychee cocktail is a must try!), great food (in adequate proportions too) - I only wished there was a bigger menu. Pretty impressive for a wee restaurant. Great place for a catch-up after work with the girls!
Perfect restaurant for your kick of Vietnamese! The plates are perfectly share to have as tapas or with a drink or two. The prices of the plates are reasonable and all the food was amazing! Loved the flavour combinations and strong flavours of the corriander and chilli. Love the chill atmosphere and is in close proximity to Britomart!
A fairly new eatery that has popped up in Central Auckland serving up affordable slightly upmarket Vietnamese food in a casual enviroment. I was skeptical at first, as there were no Asians dining here. But then both Mr Wasabi and I were not feeling very hungry and it was getting on in the evening, thinking that most of the eateries will stop serving food. The menu is short and to the point.
One of the highlights of this place is the chargrilled meat patties for our bun cha. Nothing beats meat cooked over charcoal.
So how did this place live up to our tastebuds? Visit my site to find out more.

Indochine is casual eatery in the centre of town offering Vietnamese tapas. I have mixed reviews due to…
The interior of the eatery has a cold vibe. I think its due to the tall tables and the seats are awkward to pull out. I feel like the interior and the waiting staff don’t follow the same theme to the food.
The uniform for the staff was odd – maybe it was because Indochine is in the city? but petit girls in backless halter tops with short shorts. You feel uncomfortable for them. I just think its maybe an outfit you would expect at a bar where you’re trying to make tips if you get what I mean.
The food was really great. If you want something light and healthy this is place you want to visit. Oh btw we came for dinner – their lunch menu is slightly different. The prawn rice paper rolls says you get 5, however don’t be fooled – they aren’t 5 normal full size rice paper rolls, although they pack a heap of flavour and were freshly made. We found the tofu rice paper rolls were disappointing because the tofu was hardly visible which meant you could hardly taste it was there.
The charcoal beef steak wasn’t what I expected – presented in a lettuce wrap but it was a good surprise. The mango brings a a vibrant flavour to the dish. If you want something with a bit of a punch order the squid. Probably a little spicier than it implies on the menu but if you like chilli like myself you won’t be bothered.
What I liked most is that the say what they actually are and thats tapas – Theres no trying to make portions or anything like some tapas restaurants. I would recommend ordering at least 4 dishes between the two of you if you want to be full. This is a place I would recommend to try, just dont take into account the odd waitresses attire.

Had lunch at Indochine yesterday - was quite excited because yet another Vietnamese restaurant has opened up in Auckland (yay), plus I was dying for some rice paper rolls (double yay)!
Indochine is a newly opened Vietnamese tapas bar located down Fort Street (big plus for the shared space) and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, the latter making it a perfect spot for lunch in the sun! The layout of the place is quite modern, with wooden tables, hanging lights and best of all, the most stunning mural on the wall - my friend and I couldn't stop staring at it!
The menu itself is small, offering only six dishes of rice paper rolls, beef pho and bahn mi. They serve Vietnamese coffee, two types of sodas and alcoholic drinks too. From the menu, we ordered two lots of the Goi Cuon $12 (5 pork and prawn rice paper rolls with lettuce and herbs) accompained by a dipping sauce and a small chicken salad. The rolls were nice, but not the best I have had in Auckland. Also, I couldn't taste any pork and there wasn't enough dipping sauce!
As for the service, well it was pretty good considering how busy they were! Our waitress was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food.
Overall, a good first lunch, and great for those working in the CBD! Next time I will definitely be trying the bahn mi!
Today I know what people mean by "love at the first sight"!
I'm in love with this restaurant the first second I eat the crispy tofu and the grilled tiger prawns.
Everything is just so yummy!
Particularly the grilled pork, amazing!!!
Chicken is absolutely great, juicy and tender.
Papaya salad is just delicious.
Grilled squid is a bit spicy but I love it!
I'm so gonna coming back again.
I was here a couple of weeks ago, this is a beautifull little cossy restaurant in the middle of the city, i recommend go with a booking as it may fill up quite quickly.
We tryied the Goi Cuon, beautifully fresh, the Banh mi & pate was delicious, & the Banh Bao was all of what a bao has to be 🤤.
As for the mains we tried the Ga Xao Xa Ot, the chicken was perfectly balanced spiced and the subtle lemongrass flavour gave it a layer of freshness that made it stand out of any other chicken dish you will try, it goes off the usuall fatty driven flavour that is the norm in most chicken dishes, the chicken broth it comes with was subtle and with real chicken flavour, it has been a while since i tryied a proper chicken brot, and i am quite sure that there is any "chicken flavouring" added, it was clean, balanced and non of that gamey flavour other broths of this type can have, we also tried the Thit Kho, another delicious dish, packed full of flavour and juice, a total contrast with the subtle and delicate flavour of the chicken dish, great experience.
As for the dessert we tried the Banana Sago, we loved it, but if i could make a recommendation would be to easy on the caramelising of the sugar on top of the banana as it was a little bit bitter, still delicious.
They also have a couple of Vietnamese beers (Hanoi and Saigon, although they only had Saigon at that time) and a few local brews on tap.
Hope to go again and try the rest of the menu!
Cheers!
Very casual but still feeling intimate and quite at home here in Indochine. The Cocktails were great and the food tasty and authentic. With the prices they had I had plenty to try without breaking the bank in fort street. I always have the Bun Cha on my first meal at a new restaurant and it didn't disappoint! Their spring rolls are on point 👌 and would come back for the cravings it left in me the next day. Came out with a very light dinner but still satisfied. Would recommend to family and even my Vietnamese friends from overseas. I'll be back!
Indochine Kitchen has been my favourite restaurant find for 2017. Service is fantastic, the beverage list is very pleasing and this is an exemplary standard of Vietnamese cuisine at its best, every dish is simply heavenly. Clean, fresh and fragrant flavours dance across your palate and you really feel transported elsewhere!
Loved the spring rolls and the sauce !!! The beef was a quite tough and looked like different cut of meat but overall, pho was good. Just super friendly and wholesome service ❤️
Fantastic, tasty food in a nice atmosphere!
Staff were friendly. Parking can be an issue as it's in Auckland CBD. Definitely worthwhile.
The bahn xeo and the bun cha (beef noodle salad) we're divine. Not a huge fan of their pho though. Average bao's. The service there was great! Nice place for a long lunch on a Friyay.
A hidden gem in the Auckland city. If you are looking for a healthy and light dinner plus some drink, this is the place. Their cocktails are original and refreshing. Definitely will be back to try for another drink or two while dipping into Vietnamese cuisine. Happy hours is all weekend.
Had the Goi Cuon, which were extremely well-prepared, really enjoyed the herb combination and freshness of the ingredients.
The charcoal grilled squid with the papaya salad was balanced perfectly.
Loved the baguette and pate which was served warm and toasted with the right amount of black pepper.
The Thit kho was very aromatic with the right touch of sweetness from the caramel.
The staff were lovely and the meal was a great start to level 1.
Cute little place with relaxed atmosphere. Food was really good. Waiter Glenn is a real character. Recommended for a fun time out with friends
