I have been to a few of Aucklands little Malaysian food places and to date this is probably the best in terms of authentic and delicious. I seldom use that word - 'delicious' in a review but this was good quality Malaysian cuisine.
What I liked:
1. We only ordered 3 dishes - the beef rendang, the sambal kang kong and the chicken curry.
2. All three dishes were excellent. Rendang could have been in chunkier pieces rather than slices but each dish offered up excellent flavour, good portion size and if we were any hungrier that day we would have asked for another few bowls of rice to just absorb all the saucy goodness in each dish. Instead, we packed back all the leftovers and faithfully had them the next day -- it was that yummy.
3. As the other reviews point out - you don't come here for the ambience - its the great food. It would have been great if the owners dished out desserts like ice caching, pulot hitam and chendol as I would have loved to see and taste the quality which I am sure would have been noteworthy.
All said, am definitely coming back for more and a chance to try the other dishes.
Ordered takeaway this time. Very yummy.
Will visit in store and try more dishes if have chance.
Great food with amazing service. The Malaysian roti and curry was out of this world.

It is true when they say sometimes the best doesn't need to come from a fancy restaurant. You can beat standard and quality of food with anything else. KK Malaysian Cuisine is one of the pioneers of Malaysian restaurants in New Zealand and what I love about them is not only their quality of food but also the consistency. You can expect the same standard even after 10 years. Butter Prawns were to die for with that buttery yolk coating. Beef Rendang is the best I've had with the melt in your mouth beef. Mee Goreng is no doubt the most authentic I've ever tasted out of all the Malaysian restaurants I've been. If you are after a faultless Malaysian dining experience all round including service and food, these guys know what they're doing.

Amazing Malaysian Restaurant in Epsom!
Their cereal prawns are the best in Auckland apparently, so I had to try. Though the portion was small for the price it was quite decent, full of flavour and wonderful texture.
We visited at odd hour (3pm ish) and so glad the kitchen was still opened. Ordered KK Chicken which was absolutely fresh, juicy and crunchy. Highly recommended. The Beef Rendang was a let down. Very bland and the beef was thinly sliced. Will we were aware that this was a pre-cooked dish, it should have came out heated well but unfortunately not. Was a bit watery and not ‘lemak’ (thick & delicious). Disappointed. Still giving this visit a 4 rating for the fresh bowl of rice (heaped) and yummy KK Chicken.
If you're looking for a solid Malaysian spot you cannot go wrong with KK's. Their beef rendang here is amazing as well as their sambal chicken and KK special chicken.
Have been coming here for years, the family loves this place! Very authentic Malaysian food!
Amazing selection, authentic and large portions. I came here on Valentine's day with friends and although it was super busy and it was abit of a wait the staff handled it well, they were attentive and made sure we got our food.
I got the laksa and it was delicious, I highly recommend if you're in the area and feel like some true malaysian cusine!
Visited this place many times, both the food and customer service was real great, the prices set for the menus are reasonable too, will definitely eat at this place again for many more times and also recommend to others.
One of my favourite restaurants with great customer service! I really enjoy coming back to KK as the foods are delicious and reasonably priced. My favourite meals are the steamed chicken (with chicken rice! Perfect!), sambal chicken, char kway teow (fried egg noodle), mee goreng (fried noodle - ask for the spicier version), sambal fish, homemade tofu, and teh tarik! The sweetness level can be slightly adjusted for their teh tarik but regardless it is pleasant, authentic, and well-portioned. It can get very busy hence long waiting time but it is not a big problem. Always look forward to come back here!
My partner and I had chicken satay, Ling collar fish noodles and Mee Goreng. The portion was very big, it’s good for sharing! Was wondering why the receipt shows medium size upgraded to large when there is no medium size available on the menu.
rendang chicken taste is good..weekend too many people..staff friendly
Used Zomato gold on any of the main dishes. The food was really good. It gets crowded as the place is tiny however service is pretty quick.
Second time coming back here , love the food and the service is great .
It definitely worth to have a try! Great food. Nice service!🐟
This was my second visit after a few years and it more than satisfied all my cravings for Malaysian food. The steamed chicken and sambal kangkong tasted amazing and just how it should. It’s hard to find places that make food that taste just like home. The real homerun for me was the chilli - spicy, bit of tang, maybe some ginger/garlic which gives the chicken that eureka on your tastebuds. The male server was the best, he was attentive and gave us lots of extra chilli when we asked. The only downside was that they sold out of chicken rice :(
Sambal kang Kong was awesome, spicy, crunchy, full of that sambal flavour and packs a lot of garlic.
The teh Tarik (pulled milk tea) was delicious too. If you’re a fan of milk tea, you have to try it.
The portions are massive and we had a lot leftover between the two of us. I highly recommend going with a larger group as the dishes are more for sharing and you can try more dishes too.
Thank you for a great dining experience!

Authentic malay cuisine. Quite extensive menu either choose from the special lunch menu (best for non sharers) or from the a la carte menu. All are very tasty and reasonably priced, with great service from the waiter.
My family was always a fanatic customer of KK for a long time and since then Faheem was always there to accommodate and pleased all the customers. KK never failed to satisfy us every now and then, not only the super yummy taste of food but the feelings of being taking care of. KK has a gem of having Faheem to run the business. Kuddos to all the staff, yes the chefs and of most especially how Fahim accommodating the clients of KK Malaysian!
Incredible service from Faheem today- our kk chicken was not as crispy or as flavoursome as usual and Faheem went above and beyond his duties to get us a replacement dish as we were leaving. He definitely did not have to go out of his way but the fact that he did made the overall experience that much better and we will definitely be coming back to dine again soon!
Searched this place out whilst in Auckland and fancied some Malaysian food. Sooo glad we did. The pictures don’t do it justice, honest. Fantastic place. Excellent food. The experience was so good I went back two nights later and it was fantastic again. I have spent a decent amount of time in Malaysia and this was just like being there. The aroma as soon as you open the door says a lot. Friendly service, quick and straight out delicious. Thanks to the team at KK Malay I visit every time I am in Auckland. Wonderful experience, please check it out. Cheers.
Went for lunch around 2pm on a Friday. The restaurant was busy with most tables filled up. Thankfully we had booked in advance so had a table set up for us when we arrived.
The service was very polite and gave us helpful suggestions about what to order, as well as what dishes could be made vegetarian. Food came out nice and quickly which was also impressive considering it was busy.
We ordered the sambal chicken, kk chicken and mee goreng vege. The portion sizes are very large and can easily be shared, we ended up taking away most of the meal. Sambal chicken was very different to usual sambal as it did have quite a fishy taste (maybe dried shrimp or oyster sauce) so wasn’t our favourite, but that was just due to our tastes.
Would definitely recommend coming here to try some meals, the menu is extensive so can easily please everyone.
Fast service and big servings. Recommended!
I probably think that best Malaysian food in Auckland.
I tried beef rendang and it was so delicious.
However, I had to wait long time to order our foods.
We couldnot find staff.
Gainers chicken rice was good, love the spicy sauce that came with it. KK chicken were sooooo delicious! Crispy outside but still juicy and tender with a good taste! Definitely recommend this dish. However sambal green beans wasn’t quite right for my taste. I don’t think I like the taste of their sambal. The beans were nice with good texture though. Service was alright and the place is clean(ish).
Please get a baby seat. Its very difficult to manage kids without that. Would not recommend this place for people with young kids until they get a baby seat.Wait time was long and the waitress forgot our order and people who came 45 minutes after were served food. She did not follow up and we had to ask them 3 or 4 times finally when the food arrived. It ended being stressful and would have preferred to stay at home. Food is good as usual and we used zomato gold. Plz correct your mistakes.
Very efficient service. Portion size is huge for the price they charge. Yummy too.
My husband loves the fish soup rice noodle here for manys years. So we always buy takeaway via delivery app. They separate the noodles and soup which is really good, and quantity is 5/5.

I have been dying to try this spot for the longest time and finally got around to getting on it. At first I was a little hesitant as the set up was not your usual dine in restaurant, more like an eatery/canteen feel. We did have to wait a little to get a table as we came in during peak time. When we finally got the food we ordered, we were not disappointed at all. It tastes super authentic. The serving sizes were really good too which was a plus.
Good and friendly atmosphere. Prices are ok and the food is really good. Nice for meet up with friends.

Went to KK Malaysian cuisine when it still had it's 1 for1 zomatogold food deal (super worth it and it was how we discovered this awesome Malaysian food venue). Kinda disappointed now that it only has 2+2drinks. Well, all good things come to an end, guess we gotta start searching for other Malaysian food places in Auckland to head to which has zomatogold 1+1 food now!
My hubby and I ordered the Singapore vermicelli and the KK special nasi lemak & they were delicious and the portions were generous. I especially love that the Singapore vermecilli was spicy and had a 'wok hei' (which can only be achieved by good temperature control and high heat). We really enjoyed this authentic Malaysian taste and got to say they really nailed it!

Went for a friend's birthday. As 4 authentic Malaysians, we can confidently say that the food was 'top notch'. We ordered a good ol' char kway teow, sambal eggplant and a KK chicken. While walking towards the restaurant we could smell the fragrance of the Malaysian cuisine wafting down the street, we were absolutely famished. If you can't already tell from the timeline of the images, we tried to wait for all three dishes to arrive before beginning to eat, but by the time the last dish came, we couldn't resist and had already began on the CKT. I would definitely recommend the sambal eggplant, but the CKT was missing a little 'fire', chef might need to turn up the heat on that one. Of course, how can we forget about the teh tarik? Equipped with our Zomato Gold, we ordered 4 generous cups of teh tarik. They were so good we almost ordered another four. However, because the portions of the food were so generous, we couldn't possibly fit another cup of teh tarik into our stomachs which was unfortunate. Our teh tarik chef had amazing service and was very entertaining. Interior was small but sweet, the restaurant was absolutely packed by the time we left, thankful that we had arrived earlier than the crowd. Would have been an even better meal if the 1+1 Zomato gold was back :P but will definitely be back for another cup of that teh tarik
This place is a family favourite - don’t forget to book before you go if you plan on dining in. Food is delicious and good portion sizes! My favourite is the butter prawns and kk chicken. Cannot recommend this place enough for a good feed!
The kk special chicken is very special indeed. Packed with flavor and amazing cheat meal. Their satay chicken was good too. Must try one of their beers to go with the chicken.
This place is satisfying in every respect; excellent food, a bustling ambience reminiscent of a Malaysian street market, and waiting staff who never miss a beat. We have been going there for 8 or 9 years and have enjoyed every single meal. Chicken laksa, butter chicken, Hianese chicken and sambal chicken (we like chicken!) with a generous glass of wine and abundant steamed rice cost $105 and satisfied 3 hungry men. The special eggplant with chicken is a specially satisfying treat. We didn’t have room for it on our last visit but are looking forward to again soon.
There are many restaurants in this town that could learn from the waiting staff at KK. Their unflappable demeanour, efficiency and accuracy should are a benchmark for how to provide service in an ethnic restaurant.
The property is a bit functional and might be ‘zhooozhed’ up a bit, especially if the owners could separate diners from the realities of cooking and cleaning up, but I have never felt this is a big issue and, well, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. I would rather KK stayed exactly as it is, rather than going down the soulless chrome and glass route, or worse yet, down the beaded curtain route. Let’s just stick with the NZRail 1950’s tearoom look so long as the food stays great and the value remains exceptional.
I will forever love KK Malaysian cuisine and know it to be my first time eating Malaysian food outside of Malaysia. They are always friendly to serve us, even though the dining area isn’t fancy and the menus are just paper print outs, the food is the best Malaysian food in Auckland. Guaranteed.
Each dish is prepared so lovingly and spiced/seasoned so perfectly. You must try the fish bone collar soup, beef rendang, chicken curry with roti and their fried noodle dishes. The portions are also huge for what you pay for! Extra value for money and always food to takeaway home.
Food portion are large, recommended to go with friends and share. Do recommend to book before going , we waited 20minutes for table of 4 on a weekday.
Food keeps to be of high quality on our a few visits. Worth waiting as often goes full house(or book in advance). Waiters are sometimes a bit busy
I like the food very much, it is highly recommended. Service also good, only the place a bit small so have to wait to get a table. But other than that all good. I will definitly come again.
Very good food..., handy location. And the customer service is so excellent. Highly recommended. Will definitely dine again. See you soon KK
Was recommended by a friend -- so glad I listened!
Instantly fell in love with the signature KK Chicken and I've been craving for more since my last visit (I'm going for it again tomorrow). Minced tofu went so well with the chicken too.
Portion size is good for sharing.
This place is quite packed for dinner so be prepared to wait a while if you haven't booked :)
Overall, amazing food and service.
#zomatogold# experience was awesome!!! We had no issue with Zomato Gold. Ordered Fish head noodle soup and KK pork ribs. Very yummy!
The service was great as well. The waitress gave us an empty plate for the fish bones, very handy. I asked for chilli sauce, the waitress brought two different kinds of chilli sauce within two mins!
Highly recommend, definitely 5 star.
Great food, friendly staff, recommended!
One of my favourite Malaysian restaurant, always really busy.
Noodle soup was really yummy, fish dish was also amazing
Good service and good food. The must try is there Chicken Satay.
Really good portion size.
Have outdoor seating and BYO which makes it an ideal place for drinks as well
This place is forever the best Malaysian Food in NZ need I say any more ... great food !!!! ........ been coming here for the past 10 years with no drop in quality ever.
We ordered an Assam fish and butter prawn for our main and also an entree of chicken satay. Great food but disappointed with staff didn't advise the fish dish was not covered by Zomato gold deal when order like other restaurants do. We didn't like the cashier staff attitude when asking why we didn't get advise when we put our order in.
It’s my first time to eat here and the food was G-R-E-A-T!!!! I love the mummy chicken(marmite chicken) my new favorite!!! Will come back soon! :)
Dined here with work colleagues for lunch and used our Zomato gold membership. Great food and good service! Will definitely be coming back again.
Very warm customer service provided by Fahem. Even when it’s packed to the brim, he’s is as patient as ever! Wonderful, hearty meal here using a unique blending of ingredients. The portion sizes are very generous which means the price you pay is definitely worth it. It can be hard to find a table so it is advised to book in advance. Will definitely be returning
Unlocked my Zamato Gold at KK for dinner last night. Service was ok and we ordered 2x dishes: KK Chicken ($24.00) and Curry Chicken ($24.00). Both very yummy and extremely great portion, especially the KK Chicken yummm. We couldn't finish the food at the end so had to do a piggy-bag takeaway. The bonus is we got 50% discount and only paid $24.00 ($12.00 each) ...what more can I say?? I was shocked by the value we got. Bravo KK and Zamato Gold!! 真棒!! ;-)
Food is authentic Malaysian cuisine and you always get food envy when you see plates of food you didn't order go past. Tonight's order include: fried tofu with cursed peanuts, cucumber and sweet chilli sauce;. Wat Dan hor noodles, kk fried chicken, beef rendang and roti. Next time must order hainanese chicken and rice.
I am shocked by how big the potion it is!!!
Love this Mummy Chicken. Strong beer flavored!
We went there on Thursday night, plz make reservations guys, I guess partly because of Zomato Gold, KK now has soo many customers in the evening
Reminds me of home-cooked food.
A bit on the pricey side, however the portion is reasonable. Great for group meals as the dishes are shareable. It's always good to order a variety of dishes and try a little bit of everything.
Both adults and kids love the food here. Portion is generous and price is reasonable. We thought we will go there earlier to avoid the busy period as we have small children, and the place filled up fast even at 530pm. Staff were cool but service was super quick and our meals arrived within 5 mins. We used our zomato gold, no issue there. Would definitely come to try other dishes.
What an OG Malaysian restaurant. I think I've been here 20 years ago. Everything is as it's always been and probably always will be, if the owners stays the same.
The food is always good, though some I don't like - mama chicken tastes kinda weird for me.
I like the fried noodles here and stir fried water spinach.空心菜
Go there all the time I think it’s one of the best Malaysian food in Auckland order the butter prawn please it’s the best thing on earth!!!!
Saw this in zomato so decided to come during lunch break. We ordered a kk chicken and mummy ribs and it definitely did not disappoint! Very tasty and generous portion sizes. Would definitely be back to try other items next time

The food here is amazing. I have visited on many occasions but more recently using the Zomato Gold 1+1 with a group of friends which definitely adds a lot more value to your experience. Dishes I could highly recommend are Butter Prawns, KK chicken and Mummy Spareribs (marmite flavour - sounds weird but tastes A1).
Having lived in Epsom for the past 14 years, I've passed KKs an innumerable number of times. I remember coming here sporadically in high school and not thinking much of it, however it seems that my taste buds have changed. Now taking full advantage of my Zomato gold, I've been back no less than 5 times in the last two weeks. Yes, maybe just a tad excessive at this point. 😏
What you need to know:
The good: Portions are huge and pack such a punch. I am addicted to the Tom yum fish head noodle soup, the KK ribs, sambal prawns and eggplant. If you want genuine sambal flavours and an intensely hearty meal, this is the place for you.
The bad: It gets loud, crammed and super busy so you'd need to make a booking. Service is a little slow (although the middle eastern guy that works there is really friendly and is trying his best. KK please hire more staff!)
Loved the food especially KK fried chicken. the best part is the quantity and customer service .will definitely go back 😊.best place to try Malaysian cuisine .
We came as a party of four and ordered a Butter Chicken, Cha Kuey Teow, Sambal Eggplant, and a Wa Tan Hor.
Every single dish was phenomenal with portion sizes ideal for sharing with a group, although the stand-out for me would have to be the kk eggplant. Utilising our gold membership also made the entire meal even more worth it.
You definitely have to book a table in advance as the place gets extremely packed, especially on a Saturday night when we came. Ambience isn’t the best with it being so loud and cramped, but definitely worth it for the food.
Food is authentic, staff is very helpful and polite. A place that you can find taste of Malaysia. Definitely will return to this restaurant again.
we had a great dinner at kk the food came very fast and the food was great. The price was fair and the food portions were large. overall a good restaurant and we will come back soon
KK has the best fish head noodle soup in akl and awesome butter fish! the chicken satay is very nice too. 6 star rating! :) keep up with the good work KK
Be transported to Kualar Lumpur with the authentic Malaysian flavours, value for money and best BYO! Most of the serves are family size so take your family, friends and tribe! We had the seafood laksa and beef rendang. Ingredients and flavours on point. The kitchen is very busy and the food comes out so quickly. Definately going back
Second time visiting and it did not disappoint. This time I tried new dishes- both delicious. I especially loved the Malaysian Version of sweet and sour pork! Very generous servings and super friendly staff! I will be back.
Came on a busy Saturday night but service and food was still good! We ordered KK chicken (highly recommend!), sambal okra, garlic beans and seafood tofu. One of our favourite Malaysian restaurants to go to!
Went there last night with no booking. It was busy and we were very lucky to have a table relatively quick! We ordered three dishes to share between the four of us, the first arrived after 40 minutes, and the second and third 10 and 15 minutes afterwards. Food was delicious and worth the wait!! Highly recommend to all.
Very nice place to eat!! I think it’s the best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. I ordered the tofu it’s really nice. The portion is very big as well.
Damn not much good Malaysian foodie places around but this place is gooood. Portion size were massive, had to takeaway and eat rest for dinz. I orders thick Asian flat noodles (vag) and also Megoreng.
Friendly and fast service. Food was really tasty. Dishes can be quite large in portion size, depending on what you order. We had noodles and beef rendang and that was perfect size for 2. Definitely will be back
Went here for dinner this evening. Amazing food, full of flavor and excellent service, 5 out of 5. Thanks KK Malaysian Cuisine! We will be back and definately recommended!
Tiny but VERY busy restaurant.
We walked in without a reservation around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night before our event at Alexandra Park and was lucky enough to get a table. Small restaurant- very typical mid-range Chinese/Malaysian restaurant. Nothing special about the decor and didn’t have much of an expectation as once the place got busy, we couldn’t capture the attention of the staff to order our food. Once again, what I expected from a mid-range Chinese/Malaysian restaurant. Thought the food was overpriced when we were looking at the menu. Price ranging from $20 plus. How I was wrong though.
We ordered the Mamee Chicken and the Seafood Laksa. Mamee Chicken came out first and the portion size was decent but the chicken pieces were definitely above average in size. Interesting flavour but delicious. Recommended with rice as the flavour is quite strong and can be sickening if you don’t eat it with anything else. It’s deep fried chicken pieces with Marmite & an Asian twist. It was definitely a popular dish as other customers were spotted eating this dish.
When the Seafood Laksa came out, I was surprised at the portion size. It was MASSIVE, definitely a sharing size. No wonder it was $24. All complaints about the ‘expensive’ menu had disappeared. The laksa was also quite tasty with a decent amount of fishballs and 3x prawns. It wasn’t the best laksa I’ve had (I still rate Uncle Mann’s as the best Laksa restaurant in Auckland) but it was definitely up there, hitting second place in #jazzthefoodie ‘s list.
The restaurant has a bonus being BYO with a corkage fee of $2 per person which is perfect for someone who wants good food and cheap drinks.
I’ll definitely be back soon for my fav Malaysian dish; Char Quey Teow and Rendang. Almost sad that I didn’t order it this time round but also proud that we tried something new.
I’d rate the place higher if the ambience & size of the restaurant was bigger but foodwise, I’d give it a 4/5! Definitely worth the visit if you love Malaysian food.
#jazzthefoodie
The Asam Fish and the Sambal Chicken were great. We really enjoyed eating here. The staff was helpful too. Recommended place for having dinner.
Really generous portion sizes, wait staff were very friendly and very accommodating. We ordered the Nadi Goreng which is definitely recommended
AMAZING PLACE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I used to go there all the time and have tried almost everything on the menu. I always left full and satisfied no matter what I ordered. KK joining Zomato Gold reminded me that I haven’t been for quite a while, and after my visit I’m happy to say that the quality and the quantity stayed 10/10
Food 10/10 Service 8/10 Ambience 7/10
Authentic Malaysian restaurant - ordered the ling collar bone vermicelli and the Nasi Lemak.
The ling collar bone had surprisingly a generous portion of meat.
Food came out relatively quickly and full of flavour.
Come early or make sure you book a table before you come because this little restaurant gets filled up super quickly!
You can’t go wrong with KK, great food, great price. Don’t come here for 5 star “service”, but the staff are friendly and accommodating, a great hidden secret outside of Auckland CBD
One of our favourite places to visit when we have Malaysian food cravings! The pork ribs was definitely the star of the meal. The beef rendang was tasty and tender! The Hainanese chicken rice was pretty average compared to others I’ve tried but overall was still pretty decent.
We usually get takeaways here, but we had the gold membership so dined in. We ordered the char kway teow and beef rendang, both dishes were really delicious with big portions. Had no issues using the membership, friendly service.
Pretty good food with big portions.
Dinner was served pretty quickly despite being really busy.
Mummy chicken and fish soup rice noodle will have to be my favourites.

Delicious, tasty and authentic Malaysian dishes. We used the Zomato Gold deal and the lady who took our order was really friendly. Luckily we book a table through Zomato. When we got there, there was a queue for seats. Ordered sambal eggplants, ling collar laksa, butter chicken and home made tofu with chicken rice. Total $81. Food came out really fast, super value for money, generous portion size, we have enough leftovers for lunch the next day. They charge 50c for plastic takeaway container.
Great authentic food with generous servings that we ended up doggy bagging most of it. Initially served by the main Chinese counter lady whom was very impolite but then was served by and Arabic server Fahim (probably got the name wrong) whom in contrast was very polite and patient due to our issues with Zomato gold. If it wasn’t for him to resolve the issue, probably would’ve rated at 3 due to service but good on him for being customer centric.
Super friendly and helpful waiter who explained patiently how to use zomato gold as first time using it. Food came out super fast and in good portion. Very yummy.
Servings were generous and staff were accommodating. Came at a busy time so the rice came late, but service was overall great nonetheless! Food was so tasty, will definitely be back again and recommend to friends 😄
Great food and quick service. We had the beef rendang which was cooked perfectly, good size and was pumped with lots of flavours.KK was great value and we will be back again soon!
One of the best malaysian restaurants in Auckland. We just went there last week but since we found out that they are also one of Zomato Gold partners. We couldn't resist to come back here again this weekend. Food is always good. Recommended dishes: KK chicken, Butter chicken, Beef rendang, Fried kwetiau & noodles!
After 6 years I still love their fish collar noodles soup.
I’m on a no carb diet so I only eat the fish collar now. It’s delicious and the soup is great to fill me up without the extra carbs.
Their other dishes are great too including the chicken and prawn dishes. I will upload in the future.

Visited this week. Food was delicious, hygiene was up to standard, and quantity was more than average. Order was served in a reasonable waiting time, restaurant staffs were good. Will not hesitate to recommend, rated this place a 4 star.
Excellent food! The Redang was amazing, but could do with a larger space as it was abit too crowded. The roti portions were too small as well.

Ordered this twice for take away at office lunch time.. the last one for our last lunch together in 2018 - all the food are very nice and yummy, especially sambal kangkong and curry laksa are my fave one
Delicious tasty food, authentic taste and I think is the best malay place in Auckland. I love coming back here everytime. Favourite dishes are the mi goreng and the fish vermicelli soup.
Superb food and service! Salute to Muhammad! Best Malaysian food in AKL. Eating here almost every week. KK Chicken, Hainanese Chicken rice, Curry Chicken Laksa are our favorite!
Good food good service. Portion is huge. It’s always an busy place.
You can find car park at the next street and walk there.

Delicious food, the decor needs a little lift but it sort of adds to the street food feel. The portions are huge, and tasty. If you are looking for Malaysian food this place is the best in Auckland. I had the seafood laksa and garlic beans it was full of flavour! Highly recommend
been here with a party of six.
we were seated right away..the place is a bit cramped, it was fully packed and people were still in queue at the entrance when we left. food is good, bit pricey for me tho for the quantity. still good experience.
The best Malaysian resto anywhere. great food. decent prices. the servings are big. KK butter chicken is a must try. as well as their original kk spicy chicken.
Have been to this store many times. In my personal view, this is undoubtedly the best restaurant offering Malaysian foods in the whole New Zealand.
I have tried a lot of Malaysian cuisine cafes or restaurants in New Zealand, I personally find that this restaurant by far offers the best and the most authentic Malaysian foods.
The setback is that the restaurant is rather small and it is quite busy during lunch hour especially on weekends. Their nasi lemak with chicken rendang is really scrumptious. The curry laksa noodle is very lovely too.
If you are a Malaysian food lover and haven't been to this place yet, you may wanna give it a try. Highly recommended!
Staff were lovely, and very accommodating. Place is a little pricey, but portions are big. Food was pretty authentic although the Rendang was a tad dry.
Our local favorite. Sometimes we would go every weekend. Pretty much always order the samething, Butter Prawn, mummy chicken, Hainan Chicken and Mee Goreng.
Good, cheap Malaysian food. Consistently good food and good service especially from their resident waiter Faheem. BYO wine if you want or they are also licensed. Very generous portions. They do a great Seafood Laksa, great Chicken curry with roti. Their spring rolls are delicious 6 for $12. Husband likes KK special Chicken which is twice cooked with garlic, onions and chilli, curry leaves. Their Ipho steamed chicken with soy, garlic and chilli sauce is delicious too. Great value for money.
We love our fusion eats which always combine exciting international cuisines with lush interiors and presentation — think White & Wongs, Simon & Lee and Ramen Takara. However… sometimes you just want something authentic and hearty like sitting in Aunty-Sarah-from-Malaysia’s kitchen as she whips you up huge plates of Nasi Lemak and green curry chicken, with stalks of lemongrass and kaffir-lime leaves still in the sauce. KK Malay is one of those places. Phil swears by this place as one of the best Malaysian eats around, and even the pickiest of oriental cuisine connoisseurs among us have given it the thumbs up. Don’t expect expert décor okay? This is literally those orange walls, plastic chairs, serve your own water in plastic jugs situations — but man, the food portions are huge. As with these restaurants we shared a bit of everything.

By far the best Malaysian I’ve ever had. Chicken Laksa is the favourite. So full of flavour. Would’ve given 5 stars but found it a bit pricey.
This place is always packed therefore booking is a must. We ordered Nasi Lemak - chicken and beef, Mummy Chicken, chicken satay and Roti. It will satisfy your cravings for authentic Malaysian taste. The service came fast today and the staff were friendly.
Been there on Friday night with a group of colleagues. The place was really busy. Place itself looks shabby, but service is friendly, we didn't have to wait long for our starters and mains to arrive, which is awesome considering how busy they were. The food is delicious, noodle dishes are very generous. They allow to bring your own wine which is a plus. Quite satisfied with the experience.
Super yummy place to eat! The deep fried tofu is to die for! BYO which is a nice change and always quick and easy. Great for takeaways too!!
This place has nice tasty food, they give you alot of food great place for sharing they make it for sharing around the place is always busy but because it’s very nice tasty food
Delicious Malaysian food. Come here quite often with family friends. We always order curry chicken on rice. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a good Malaysian meal.
My go-to Malaysian restaurant. Friendly staff. Food is amazing. Must try: KK Chicken, Mee Goreng, sweet corn soup and the Curry Laksa. Value for money and service is very fast. Ambience could be better - not a big fan of the separated eating areas but food makes up for it.
Very impressive Malaysian cuisine place. Very big serve for dishes with extraordinary tastes for all ordered food. Fast and friendly service. The tables were old and the floor was dirty, a re- furnishing should be carried out.
My mom recommended this restaurant to me so I can try other cuisines. It was definitely a great surprise as I liked their food. We ordered the KK chicken, Nyona fried rice, spring roll, and i can't recall the name of the noodles. Value wise it's definitely worth your money as it have generous servings. Taste wise it was also nice as all the food were flavorful and it was really different from other cuisines that Ive tried. Will come back here soon.
This is the second time we've been to KK. Our first experience was a few years ago, and it was great! This time, it was slightly less than great. We had kang kung sambal (water spinach with prawn chilli), KK eggplant, lemon chicken, fried tofu and hokkien mee. The kids loved the lemon chicken, we (the adults) loved the kangkung and eggplant. The hokkien mee didn't taste as authentic nor as good as the previous time we where here. Observing other tables, I noticed that many tables had the steamed whole fish and chicken curry. Perhaps you may want to try those dishes too. We'd still gladly return. I recommend you make a booking as we saw many people get turned away, or had to wait for up to 30mins.
I came across this small restaurant while driving through Epsom with my family. The restaurant seemed to be separated into two parts. We waited about half an hour for our food to come.
We got a big range of food. My favourite was the roti, it has a nice texture but it was a little small. The Ling Collar Everything was full of flavour and it left me feeling full and satisfied.
Food: 6/10
Service: 7/10
Price: 8/10
Place was packed but food came out incredibly fast. Photos below are the nasi goreng (vegetarian) and Malaysia deep fry tofu. We also ordered chicken rendang, hokkien noodles and vegetable spring rolls - they weren't as good as the vegetarian dishes according to my family. The staff were super friendly (would've given 3.5 if it weren't for the lovely service).
We ordered the chicken curry ($22), crispy tofu,
Roti and rice. The curry was huge. Great value. The tofu was delicious and well seasoned. Roti was super soft and flaky. The male waiter was really kind and offered to help me takeaway my food because we couldn’t finish it. Great attention to detail.
I have been coming here for years , we have always been a big fan and love their butter prawns , mami ribs , fish soup noodles . We came here recently and was so surprised of the sizes of the dishes , they have SHRUNK over the years , especially the Beef Randang, the dish was half of the portion of what we normally ordered , half of the dish was some pickle salads, the actual amount of beef was less than a little bowl. We gave the feedback to the owner and answer we got was “yes this is the size of the beef randang” . It’s totally not worth $22 , I would rather go have a nice steak else where .
I hope they would do better next time we return , as we believe in consistency and quality of food is what brings people back.
Malaysian cuisine is flavorsome and fresh. KK's food is amazing.I can't attest to its authenticity myself, having never eaten in Malaysia. However most of the customers are of Malaysian decent so I assume it's quite close to home. This place is vegetarian friendly.
Setting is basic and quite cramped. If you don't mind an average looking sitting area, people looking for decently priced, quality Malaysian cuisine that is outside of the city, KK's is highly recommended.
We were the first customer of the day so we got served quickly. We ordered TOM YUM ling collars vermicelli soup, Malaysia style deep fried tofu, special chicken rice,NASI lemak rice, sweet n sour pork, fried rice and fried choy sum. The food is authentic Malaysian cuisine and the service is not bad.

Suggest you ring and book yourself a table it'll save a lot of stress that's what I've learnt, staff are always friendly food is always out fast as portion sizes are massive N always enough to feed u the next day.. my fav malayasain place to dine at.. I like have some dishes they have a small or large it's good If u want a little bit of everything but not a massive portion highly recommend to at less try
strong curry and cream coconut milk makes Malaysian cuisine very very special and tasty. Feel so happy dine in raining day but see beatiful rainbow above the sky.
Just only have 2 dishes for lunch and food not too bad compared to many Malaysian cafe especially the chicken laksa but felt that the wantan hor chicken a bit undercooked or else will be perfect, we're early so not busy. Hope to be back again for dinner one day.
Nice place for a tasty Malaysian meal. Stopped by to get takeaway and all the tables were already full. Even though they already occupy twice the space they did before they are always full. When you try the food you see why.
Really good food and quite a few options on the menu so plenty to try. Try to book beforehand otherwise try your luck and hope for the best.
It's always satisfying to eat at KK Malaysian Cuisine. The good is always good and is very consistent. I came here for lunch and ordered a regular sized Ling Collar Vermicelli Soup, a large Deep Fried Tofu and also a Curry Chicken with Roti (no photo). It was really good and extremely filling for three people. The soup they use is just👍👍. I highly recommend everyone to try the deep fried tofu if you ever eat at KK. It's just amazing!!! However, I would've given it a rating of 5 if they kept the place a bit cleaner - the floors are quite dirty and sometimes sticky too but utensils and tables are always clean. The service is what you would expect at an extremely busy Asian place. This place is also packed at lunch and probably dinner time too.
Definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurant. I remember the first time i tried here was 10 years ago? Their food is always the best, the only downside for this venue is the decor is not that nice but it is not a big issue, would come back again and again and again....
Definitely one of the best Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. It's so busy that you may need to wait for a table, but if you have the time it's worth it. Favourite dishes are the KK special chicken, mummy chicken, beef rendang & chilli prawns. They have lots of other authentic dishes too. Service is okay, not exactly friendly but super efficient with dishes brought out quickly
Haven't been here for a long time, lucky still about to book a table in last minute.
The foods still very tasty as usual, randang Beef plus roti, sambal chicken and lak Zhi prawns except there's a mis cummumication with the waitress. ... we wanted a dish of the petal (smelly beans) by itself only, not another sambal dish.

Seems like you need to be really lucky to walk in and get a table here; and thankfully on a cold thursday evening luck was on our side. The restaurant is pretty low frills. Tables are cramped together. The service is quick. The food is tasty.
My partner ordered the Nasi goreng. I really wanted a laksa, but at $22 for soup, I really questioned my decision....that was until it arrived. The fact that they charge $0.50 for takeaway containers should be a dead giveaway but the portions are enormous! The nasi goreng could easily be shared by two. The laska portion was massive. Needless to say I got a takeaway container and that laksa lasted me for three meals after!
We paid $30 for these two dishes and had plenty leftover for many meals the next day. If that isn't value for money I don't know what is!
Food was good. We enjoyed well. Laksa was great. Loved the vegetarian. Not too spicy as Malaysian spice you normally get. Kids friendly. But make sure you reserve a table before hand.
The sambal prawns and mee goreng never disappoints. A great place to BYO also. I really love their consistency with food. Been there a few times now. Keep going!!
The laksa and curry (can't remember what types of either dish) were a class above most, if not all, Malaysian dining spots I have visited. Very rich in flavour and great portions, filling 3 with two dishes.
Good food
Overpriced
Good service
Friendly staff
Not the cleanest maybe ? Well there was soap on fork . Means clean ? I'm not sure lol
Means they wash them lol . But wash them enough ? Good place but gets crowded as
Arrived for dinner around 7PM. They asked if we've booked a table which we haven't. Without hesitation they seated us.We ordered the coconut prawns, Curry chicken, roti and seafood laksa.
We received all our food around 20mins time.
Food was really good. One of the best Malaysian spots in Auckland.Coconut Prawn is definitely a favorite.
Delicious Malaysian food, but on the expensive side (although the portion is good). Try beef rendang, mee goreng, sambal eggplant, sambal kangkung. They get very busy so make a booking if you can.
Always great food, great service, only downside is that the restaurant is not 10 times its size :( would be able to fit more customers and less waiting would be required
Really busy when we came, had to wait awhile to be seated.
All the dishes were good, but their Butter Prawns, which is really nice to eat, always leaves my dad and I with an upset stomach the next day. Not sure what's up with that.
Price-wise it's pretty good for the portion!
My go to place for authentic Malaysian cuisine. Their banana prawns and fish are a hit. Have it either way with sambal or tamarind sauces. Or their famous chicken doused in sweet sticky sauce and sesame seeds. Mummas chicken I think it was. Careful with the heat of the food - medium was kiwi very spicy for me. And asked for the prawns to be shelled unless you wanna get stuck in with fingers. Book in advance. The can certainly do with a redecorating.
A good place to have a healthy Malaysian meal. Fair price, nice taste and good service. But it was Lunar New Year season yesterday, lots of diners visited there, so we spent nearly 35 minutes for waiting dishes.
Been to KK since it first opened. They always provide great service and food! Even it is a bit far to travel to have a meal but if is all worth it at the end of the meal. Nice food, busy place, great service!! 5 stars!
One of the best Malaysian eateries in Auckland.
KK's is a small yet hectic restaurant on the corner of Greenlane and Manukau. The food delivers in taste and KK's boasts classic Malaysian cuisine. Some would say it is too busy and tight packed, however we have always enjoyed our experiences here.
The satay kebabs are the best I have ever had and when you go you need to get at least one (whole) fish dish.
The best experience is to share a number of dishes and have a bit of everything.
Parking is good, alcohol is sold here and the service is fast.
I would hold off on the 5 stars as the setting slightly lacks in presentation, but this is irrelevant when reviewing the whole package.
Really enjoy the food here, KK always let me feel satisfied since the first visit. i think it was 2005?
KK special ribs if my favor! honestly, i order this everytime when I visit here lol.
Sometimes they gets so busy at weekend so I suggest come at weekdays otherwise you may only have 1 hour to eating but actually 1 hour is enough for eat only
The service here is ok, nothing impressed but they are all kind :)
Really enjoyed lunch here today as it wasn't too busy and we got a table straight away. Decided on the mummy chicken and wat tan hor, the chicken was a bit on the salty side luckily we had ordered some chicken rice which made for a good combo. The way tan hor portion was verrrry generous, even the regular size is too much for one person. Found the egg gravy to be a little flavourless but the noddles definitely made up for it.
Quality of food here was pretty good – I remember enjoying their laksa. However, found service to be lacking. It's generally pretty busy as well, which can be a bit off-putting if it can compromise service.
I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
We ordered KK special chicken and KK special eggplant. Both are amazing although the KK chicken is on the salty side. The chicken is a dry dish so I'd recommend ordering something else with sauce so the whole meal wouldn't be so dry. The batter on the chicken was nice and crunchy and the accompaniment of garlic and onion are cherries on a cake.
We also ordered KK special eggplant and it goes very well with the chicken and rice. It is on the oilier side but it goes very well with rice.
The food was served quickly and we got a table easily (we went in at nearly 2pm). The serving portion is great and would definitely recommend others to try it out!
The reason why I gave it a 4.5/5 is because the dishes are on the pricier side. If they can take it down just a wee bit, I'd have given it a perfect 5 and would return regularly.
Food is epic nice. A bit pricey per dish compared to other places you can eat at, hence my lower rating. Seating is a bit squished as well.
Another fav! Butter chicken, the roti with dipping sauce, the mummy spare ribs, the chicken fried rice. I always book as it gets extremely busy. The location is on main road and it is very loud. But the food tops it off. The service is good they got a few things wrong in order and mucked up other table food to us, they also charge for plastic takeaway containers which i think they shouldn't after paying an average of $90+ on food.
Food here is superb, especially the Ling Fish Collar Noodles. The taste is unmistakably malaysian. Good for those of us missing home food. This is comfort food.
Hands down, the best place to get Malaysian food in Auckland.
Their KK special chicken and sambal chicken are our favourites.
Booking in advance is highly recommended.
Let's take a moment and appreciate the BEST tofu dish in Auckland.
I have always wanted to try KK out but never got around to it until now! They are always so busy and parking is a bit of an issue during peak hours.
The restaurant is like a hole in the wall, kind of shabby and everything has a layer of grease on it but it feels authentic.
The waiters were quite nice and very quick, we ordered three dishes and rice for two. Pricing is not super cheap compared to some other cheap eats but for the quality of food you get, it is definitely worth it!
The mince tofu dish - heavenly. I'm going to forever crave this dish and will return endlessly just for this.
Butter prawns were also very tasty, the prawns were fresh with just the right amount of crunch and flavour.
The KK chicken was nice but definitely more of a sharing dish for more people as it is quite salty and oily.
The only thing is, I wish they would renovated the place a little bit, or maybe just abit more scrubbing so that it can be a more confortable dining environment.
Malaysian food just does not get old. Tried the chicken rendang, nasi lemak and beef curry. The nasi lemak was excellent, the rice had a nice coconut fragrance too. The chicken rendang wasn't as mindblowingly amazing as I expected but good nonetheless. One slight quibble is that there was too much chicken skin so made it seem like more than it was. Didn't like the beef curry at all though it may be because I don't like beef anyway. Service was really fast too.
Went here for dinner on Saturday. I have been a few times now, the food was excellent. We got the sweet and sour pork and the KK Chicken. Both were healthy portion sizes and tasted amazing, the KK chicken in particular.
The table next to us ordered a laksa which looked really good aswell.
Service is a bit average but nothing unbearable. Highly recommended joint ☺.
All my family love this restaurant. All food are delicious & tasty. I specialy love sambal fish.
Migorang & nasi gorang both very good.
I love home made tofu, ling colour vermicilly and sambal kongkong. My favourite restaurant.
This is another place that I have been wanting to try again since they closed down the branch in Ellerslie. Glad I finally made it! Ordered the sweet and sour pork, curry fish, rendang chicken and an egg tofu dish just to mixed it abit as I was in a group of 6. The curry fish and the rendang chicken was splendid. The curry was nicely done as it wasn't watery but not too thick either. The rendang chicken was all tender and simply melted in the mouth. The egg tofu dish was another fantastic dish as I liked how they cracked a whole egg on top of the gravy which was already filled with chunky pieces of chicken, mushroom and dried shrimps. The sweet and sour pork was alright but have had better ones elsewhere. I ordered the Teh Tarik for a drink but felt it was a little watery. The ones served at PappaRich is still better.
The physical place comprises of two small separate units to cater for extra indoor seating area. There is some outdoor seats as well. Generally very simple setting which was good enough for me.
Overall this place is still one of the top places for Malaysian food in Auckland. The rendang, curry fish and egg tofu are by far one of the best I have had so far. The dishes are a little on the costlier side which is another down side. Sometimes you have to pay more to get the good stuff.
Highly recommend this place for a simple lunch or dinner meal. Best to call or book ahead as this place is crowded most of the time. 👍🏼👌🏼
My partner and I ordered a large laksa, hainanese chicken and small friend tofu. All dishes arrived promptly. Laksa was very big and came with a lot and I mean a LOT of chicken pieces which tasted nice but chicken pieces were towards the dry side. The hainanese chicken was nice but I am not sure if this was hainanese chicken which the lady explained as I thought it normally comes with grated ginger but nevertheless it was tender and moist. The food was too much for us therefore we had to ask for takeaway. Be aware there is a 50c extra charge for takeaway containers if dining in and asking for food to be taken home which is not a problem for us. Staff were friendly and interior was okay. Will come back again but probably try the seafood laksa next time.
Not wanting to brag too much, but I fancy myself as an expert on Malaysian food, so coming to KK I had big expectations.
Did KK Malaysian meet these expectations? Hell yeah, this place is the bombs! Yes, its prices are on the expensive side, but the portions are huge!
Every dish was a highlight and the service we received was attentive.
Beef Rendang was super tender, and it was awesome that the sauce didn't overpower the beef like other places I've been to. The roti was a favourite for our group, and while we all agreed that the laksa was average-good, we all couldn't keep our hands away. Butter Chicken was interesting, and the way they used the egg flakes made the dish crunchy and oh so devilishly scrumptious.
Showstopper: Just great food. Beef Rendang and the Butter Chicken!
Overall Grade: A
I was quite lazy on a Sunday evening and thought of just having a feed somewhere near and was willing to try something Asian and somewhere new ..have heard a lot of this place and have tend to cross this place a lot but have never been there .. So thought of trying this place ,my first impression on the wait staff was that I found them bit rude where as in terms of food the menu was big and quite elaborate aswell I tried Malaysian curry, veg noodles and deep fried tofu and nothing was like it ..noodles was bit saucy and perfectly seasoned so was the curry and tofu was the winner in them all in terms of how it was being plated to how it tasted ..I still have that taste it was so good will defiantly good there ..much recommended
Guarantee you won't be disappointed if you wanna have some real good Malaysian food. The deep fried Prawns and Fish noodles are must-try dishes.
The food here is very tasty and very well priced! Unfortunately I made a booking for 7 as it was my dads 60th unfortunately we had to wait till 7.45 till we finally got a table. It was worth it tho! Would definitely go again

I heard good things about KK from lots of people, and its very close to home. The place was packed for lunch and all the food coming out of the kitchen looked great. I ordered takeaways; mummy chicken and rice. The meal was huge, definitely bang for buck and easily could feed 2 ! The chicken was so delicious, tender and juicy however I expected the sauce to be a little bit sweeter. The rice was also generous in size.
The restaurant itself was nothing at all fancy and pretty cramped but staff were pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back to try some other Malaysian dishes
Very nice malaysian
I highly recommend the Chicken Laksa Noodle Soup & the KK Special Chicken
My mum's favourite here is the Wat Tan Hor - which is thick rice noodles in egg gravy or something. Really yum.
The best Malaysian joint in Auckland. This busy little place in the corner of Manukau and Greenlane Road has grown over the years and expanded to the store next door. The food is tasty and the flavour is good. My favourite dish here is the Hainanese Chicken rice and I used to order this almost weekly! The rest of the food is just as tasty such as the fish head soup and the char kuey teow. The dinner menu is just as good and tasty but come for the quick eats at lunch!
Authentic malaysian cuisine recommended by my parents. Growing up with my mum's malaysian cooking makes me extremely fussy when going to malaysian restaurants. Malaysian food can either be overly salty or too much msg. I found this restaurant served authentic cooked dishes with no msg and it wasn't overly salty. We ordered char keow teow...my favourite! But I was deeply disappointed it had no prawns it it??? If it had prawns in the dish would have been a 5/5. I think they missed it by mistake. . So ill give it a 4/5. However the way they cooked it you could tell they know what they are doing with the char grilled smell which makes the dish authentically cooked 😊
We also ordered the sambal fish ....Omg delicious with the aroma of lemongrass that balanced the whole dish. The fish was also very tender and flavourful with the sauce and vegetable garnish. Lastly we ordered the mammy chicken..I think they marinated it in marmite sauce. I don't know if this is authentic malaysian but seems to be a popular dish. I thought the dish was a bit salty probably because of the marmite sauce. However it was still very yummy. Serving sizes was huge! For the three of us we had leftovers to take back home.
Ambience isn't wow. .a bit like a typical malaysian hoker store kind of seating. You will know what I mean if you have been to Malaysia ...Their restaurants are quite similar ambience style. However people come here for the delicious food and the place is packed even with a queue in the evening. My advise book in advance. Waiters are really efficient and prompt to deliver the food fast on the table. Give it a go you may be surprised ☺
Authentic Malaysian cuisine, mostly on point. We shared four dishes and had quite a bit left to takeaway.
The mummy chicken was my favourite - deep fried boneless pieces of chicken in a sticky and sweet dark soy sauce. Crispy, sweet, sticky and savoury at the same time, so good!
The beef rendang was also really authentic - tender beef in a rich spicy coconut gravy. A pity that the serving was quite small. I wanted more.
The wan tan hor (fried white noodles with egg gravy) was also good. The gravy had good flavour with plenty of egg white, complementing the fried noodles well. It could have done with more fish balls or strips of meat as this dish was mostly noodles and gravy.
The big letdown was the ling collar noodles. The broth which is key to the soup noodle dish was flavourless, lacking depth and sweetness of the fish. The dish had a lot of noodles but not much else. The fish itself was also quite tasteless which was disappointing.
For a weekday lunch, this place was bustling. The place is pretty small so if you want a table, a booking would be wise. It was a cafe style setting and quite clean. Service was quick and friendly, something that can be rare for an Asian restaurant, so thumbs up! If you visit, definitely try the mummy chicken and beef rendang.
Excellent food ,very busy place. Authentic Malaysian food. But being very busy it is very noisy. At@times its hard to hear other person across the table.
KK Malaysian is clearly a popular place, it was packed when we came but we managed to snag a table straight away. The place is rather cramped and noisy, definitely far form fancy but that's part of the legitimate atmosphere and experience of southeast Asia. The food came out at a good time and we were amazed at the serving sizes- super generous, especially the entrees! We got apprehensive as they came out, thinking we ordered too much food. We ordered roti, sweetcorn soup, malaysian fried tofu, and beef curry.
Roti- super buttery and flaky with those crisp edges, this tasted SO unhealthy and SO good! They used a lot of margarine or butter so when dipped into the curry, you get that homey taste of a good pie.
Sweetcorn soup- the regular size was plenty enough for 2 people, and was good, but not great.
Malaysian fried tofu- a staple dish but we weren't too impressed as the tofu wasn't crunchy, and was the puffy/ airy style of tofu.
Beef Curry- massive portion with quite a few chunks of carrot, potato, and beef. It became really salty as we progressed through our meal and I was super thirsty afterwards.
Overall, super generous serving sizes but the ambiance is not going to be for everyone, and food tends to be quite oily/ salty (but that is really reminiscent of authentic street foods of Asia).
The best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland.
Excellent food, nice service. Awesome.
This restaurant is always full, so you need to book a table one day in advance.
This is the best Malaysian restaurant so far.. Whenever I go there, I always get the sambal eggplant! It is always delicious! However, the restaurant is quiet small and busy. So get there early or book your table first!
Very delicious food, and quick service. will definitely recommend going to this place! If you want a taste of Malaysian, this is the place to go
Overall very impressed with the quality of the food. They were very nice especially the Tofu that we ordered. We ordered Assam Prawns, Chicken curry, tofu and eggplants. The servings are very big and good for sharing. Compared to Sri Mahkota, the Assam Prawns that I got from there were a lot bigger and the price was cheaper as well. Good service from the staff, although there were too many people and it was a bit crowded for the place even though there were two sets of 'stores' and an outside setting, there were still a lot of people coming. We went to have lunch there around 12:45pm today.
This malaysian restaurant has a huge selection of food. I was almost bewildered by the size of each dish. I had curry laksa which is second to none. I will definitely come back for curry laksa!
The only thing I have to point out is that they might have put too much salt/msg in the dishes, too thirsty after eating here.
Came here on a busy Saturday night and was very lucky to get a table - this place is always so busy so have been keen to try it for a while. Had the deep fried tofu to start - delicious - followed by the Assam fish, garlic beans and roti. The fish and the roti were the stand out dishes, beautiful flavours and would certainly order again. Food was incredible so only marked down on atmosphere - fairly cramped, busy, loud, bog standard decor - and they forgot the rice dish we'd ordered.
I'm a Malaysian and this is one of the Malaysian restaurants whose food is as authentic as the ones back home. They have a huge variety of dishes and the appetisers are enough to satisfy you however you can also order mains to share amongst yourselves. Only thing that puts me off coming here too often is the fact that I always get very thirsty and fatigued for hours after eating here. I'm guessing that they put a lot of MSG in their food.
Had a group work dinner here and really enjoyed it, the food was so good. We had heaps of plates that we shared. Satay chicken skewers were moist and tasty and the sweet and sour pork was one of the best I've had. I also really liked the mummy chicken it was delicious. Defiantly recommend.
Love the food at KK. The fish curry and green bean dish is a must try. Sambal chicken is also nice and their nasi lemak is delicious. This place is always busy. Reservation is highly recommended or having take away is another option.
This place has absolutely perfected Malaysian food! A hidden gem in Epsom, I'm glad to have now discovered it. You can taste the how much effort goes into the dishes. My only advice would be to be provide a few more vegetarian options. Glad they do BYO too, always a good time with friends! Keep it up :)
Great Malaysian food and great portions. On this visit, we didn't order much but felt very full after. Had one of my favourites, the KK pork ribs- a must try! So deliciously flavoursome and one of my favourite bits of the dish is the garnish which includes fried curry leaves that I would probably eat by itself, it's so good. Also had their chicken satay and you get 6 sticks (not a stingy amount of chicken on that too, very filling!) just for $9. Awesome peanut satay sauce to dip in too. Paired this all up with some of their chicken rice- great combo.
Pays to book every time when eating at KK. Been here during weekdays and still very busy! Only downside I would say is not with the food but with the wait staff- one person it particular. This man I think may be manager (not sure but some sort of head wait staff maybe haha) as he always is there when I go and is in charge of where to sit people. Very gruff and not very hospitable and welcoming. I had to get all sassy when ordering this time time but other than that I come back for the food!
Came here for a BYO and had a blast! The KK special chicken wad cooked to perfection. Will hopefully be back in the near future, and will be recommending to friends
Always heard of their names but only just went their after 11 years. Very small and busy place, lucky to get a table after booking for 9pm. Highly recommended booking in advance. Must try their tofu dish as it is so much tastier that any other Malaysian restaurants. Highly recommend dishes: Crispy creamy butter shrimp and Char kway teow.
I have been to this place for dinner and it was super busy. However you had to wait for ever to get service. And out of all waiter and waitress it was only a Indian waiter were nice and serving us.my girlfriend and my brother both are Malaysian and both enjoyed a food.
If you don't mind sitting nice and close to other diners and you don't mind that KK isn't the prettiest joint, but you want your food nice and hot, spicy and delivered to you nice and quickly (most of the time), then KK's your joint. We like to get there nice and early to avoid longer wait times and scrapping for a space @ the tables and we'd happily go back. Try the Mummy chicken, rending beef and Assam prawns, w. rice and their delicious rotis, our KK faves!
Food is great 4/5 but sometimes has a long waiting time due to the resturant is always quite busy. Would recommend takeaway or dine earlier.
We go there some time, always like their food. tasty
but there management is very bad. I know they are very busy.
always there is a way to organize. always need to chase after waiting person to order food.
for food. we will always come back
Really good for cheap Malaysian takeaway food! Really tiny, very busy restaurant. My favourite dish is probably the mummy chicken - sweet soy sauce marinate, so good!
Simply good food - but that's not enough to go bonkers over it. KK Malaysian serves up tasty food (leaves you a tad salty though) and consistently does so. On any day, don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. Flavours are a tad heavy; the sambal chicken and beef rendang are my favourite dishes here. Very pleasing if you feel like you haven't eaten in days!
I have been a regular at Kk's for many years as they've always managed to satisfy my Malaysian cravings each time. Although service could be polished up a little, the food makes up for it and the owner herself ( Kk) is a wonderful and friendly lady :) This place is usually always full tho so I reccommend you make reseravtions ahead if possible!
Dishes that I have tried here include the Assam fish, roti, kk's special chicken, mummy chicken, coffee ribs, butter prawns, sambal kang kong, kk's special eggplant, steamed chicken, their deep fry tofu and mince tofu. ( Unfortunately photos of those are lost somewhere in my harddrive haha). The standout dishes for me however, would definitely be the Assam fish, the deepfry and mince tofu and the butter prawns!! And in regards to the vge dishes, the eggplant and kang kong dishes are actually super good too. All dishes are served in generous amounts and 2 dishes to share between 2 or even three people would be sufficient in my opinion.
Overall, my favourite Malaysian place to go to and very authentic flavours ( take it from a Malaysian :) ). Prices are extremely reasonable and service is aceptable. TRY THE DEEP FRY TOFU!!
Had dinner here over the weekend. Tried the KK chicken and beef rendang, the chicken was a bit dry. Could have done with some dipping sauce, the rendang was decent. Also had some spring rolls, which were fairly standard. On the higher end of the price scale and the mains didn't come with rice either. All in all, average for value and won't be rushing back.
Had dinner here tonight, ordered the rendang beef and fried chicken. Both were good but not the best Malaysian we've tried so far in Auckland. Decent but middle of the range with prices. Would go back if in the area.
I used to live nearby KK in Epsom so I've had food there countless of times, mostly takeaways but on the rare occasion I do pop by to dine in. Now I've heard a lot of negative things about KK when it comes down to service and waiting times and I have to say I agree. Service is nothing spectacular, probably because the staff there works quite hard to get as many things done as possible as they are so busy. Yes they are BUSY!!! I see KK being almost full every night without fail and if you have a big group I really do recommend booking ahead. The last time I was there it was a really cold night and we only managed to get the seats outside. They had heater going but it was still freezing until we got some curry into our bellies!
Authenticity? Absolutely! Good food? For sure! I've had the best Laksa there by far! I do highly recommend their "Butter Chicken" (which is not what you expect at all, if you are expecting the curry version you are in for a surprise) . What you get there is an awesome fried chicken covered in coconut and other sweet spices, I'm guessing they used a salted egg batter for the crumbs as well. It was hard to comprehend at first but it is by far my favorite dish. I also highly recommend to tofu as well.
Hands down the best Laksa I have ever had!!! Well worth the trip to Epsom to experience the Friendly staff, amazing food, well priced and a MUST visit
This place is awesome. A local favourite. Yummy food and consistently good. Great service too.
KK has become our most visited place for lunches in Auckland. The best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland I can say without doubt. I have a Malaysian heritage and the dishes are as authentic as they can be based on the exposure I have had to Malaysian cuisine. Undoubtedly this has now become our favourite place for dining. We are regular diners outside and I am a foodie myself, so I know what I am taking about. The waiting time and the attention from staff can be sometime long, but that is because it is very busy - that has to tell something about KK. If you are smart enough, book the place 30 mins in advance, and you have a guaranteed place when you get there. The ambience is not of a fine dining restaurant, but you get what you pay for. Prices are not expensive either. We have tried all of the Malaysian restaurants / eateries around Auckland but nothing compares to KK in terms of authenticity and price of the dishes they provide. This place is for those who actually know what Malaysian food tastes like or for those who like exploring different cuisines and those that like food in general - not for those who behave like brats and who think they can just walk into a place and expected to be treated straight a way, not certainly for those who want instant gratification, you will not get it here and KK won't miss out on people like you as there are plenty who will continue to enjoy what they offer.
Went here with some friends awhile back. Seems to always be busy every time I drive by! The restaurant itself is ok, quiet basic but still decent. The dishes are large and good for sharing. Really good authentic Malaysian food! Definitely worth a try
Consistently a great restaurant. Although, yes, the building looks run down, the quality and consistency of the amazing food they make cannot be faulted. I can't speak on the authenticity of the restaurant, not having been to Malaysia or having much experience with the cuisine, however as a food lover, the flavours and textures of the meals are fantastic. Can't rave more about this place. I recommend going in groups (we usually get 5 dishes between 6-7 of us and it's plenty). I couldn't recommend the KK chicken and mummy pork ribs higher!!! Incredible food. Overall, a great, tasty, fun place to go. Definitely worth all the praise.
One of the best Malaysians in Auckland. Best way to describe it is similar quality food to Mamak, but service leaves a little to be desired. Food is a good quantity and extremely authentic.
Quite a regular at this restaurant with my friends and family. Do take outs quite often and come in to dine on occasions as well. This has got to be the best Malaysian restaurant around. Would highly recommend the sambas chicken, chicken rice, butter prawns, well pretty much anything here, you can't go wrong.
This place has really good Malaysian vibes. Came here on a busy Sunday afternoon for lunch and we managed to grab seats outside. It almost felt like we were in a coffee shop in a town in Malaysia. The service is not outstanding, but then again you don't go to these places for their service, do you?
I had the fish collar laksa, which was so good! The gravy was thick and outstanding, it has to be one of the best laksa I had here in Auckland (watch out Selera in Newmarket). My only complaint would be that there was a fair amount of bones, that could have possibly been removed earlier, and that diminished the experience slightly.
We also had the hot Chinese tea, which was fairly good. This restaurant is priced quite reasonably. I would definitely come back here to sample their range of Malaysian delights.
Not a fine dining experience but the food is very authentic. Quite difficult if you do not book a table in advance but well worth the additional efforts. Being Malaysian myself, I always recommend this restaurant to those seeking an authentic malaysian meal.
Food is amazing! Big portions and delicious flavour. I would probably just get takeaway next time though as very busy place and tables all crammed together.
Had KK for dinner for two people around 6pm on a Sunday night (in order to beat the mad rush at 7pm). The dinner menu starts at 5:30pm and I would recommend you go as early as you can to avoid a long wait for food. We ordered the curry chicken with roti (approx $25), and a sambal eggplant dish with rice (~$21). Dinner menu is reasonable for price once you taste how good the food is! The food can sometimes take a while because of the many people that dine and takeaway - so be prepared for a little wait! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to people who want top quality Malay, and to try something different.
We have always been wanting to eat here on the way to/from the airport bit ot's always full! We grabbed the chance today and parked our bums on the tables outside at 5:15. By 5:30 the place was full! We had the kk chicken and our server gave us rice enough for 3 bowls -one bowl free. Chicken was very tasty and juicy. Bery glad we finally got to sample this cheap and cheerful eatery. Will be back next time with the kids!
Love the place. Always full when we visit for dinner. Too bad they close on Mondays. Yummy spicy KK chicken and spicy beans are our favorites.
Went on a really wet and windy night and there were not many people out so we did not need to wait for a table.
Our tasty entree of vegetable spring rolls came with-in ten minutes of ordering while our mains took about 25 minutes. The Seafood Laska was top-rate: tasty, hot with lots of seafood. The $18 large serve was definitely enough for 2-4 people.
The Nasi-Goreng was very nice though not as spicy as I have had at other Malaysian eateries.
The staff were friendly and the service was adequate for this style of restaurant.
The atmosphere is super casual.
Total bill for above food and 2 beers $48.00: plus enough leftovers for tomorrows dinner.
We would eat here again as we both enjoyed the food.
Went here for the first time last week.
We had a table of nine (so fairly large group), the service like most people are saying, is pretty poor. But the food makes up for it. Delicious!! I still dream about the yummy chicken, the eggplant and curry fish.
Just go even if it's to try it out once, but bare in mind the service isn't 5 stars.
The often-crowded KK is still consistent with their quality. The food are delicious, especially the Ling Fish soup, the sambal chicken and the kuewtiauw. There are so many options that I would definitely come back to try more. Sometimes they can be very packed, but the waiters would try their best to accommodate you although everything would feel rushed and aloof.
Best Malaysian food in New Zealand! The flavour is perfect and everything is simply delicious. We always order a lot and we love it. Down side is the service is slow at nights because its so busy, and they're not the friendliest bunch..
Went here with some friends, excellent food, we had the KK special chicken, chicken curry and a tofu dish. Everything was excellent, my favourite was the the KK special chicken. The only downside to this place is that it is freezing inside, I really think they can improve the layout of the place. Other than that I will definitely return but with a thicker coat.
We've been coming here for nearly nine years (since I was pregnant with my daughter who turns 8yrs old next month - and she likes it here too!) and we love it. The food is delicious and very well priced if you compare it to other similar places (and portion sizes are generous at KKS) yes it's not flash or 5* service but who cares with the flavours this place brings? Just leave your precious ideas of "service" at home and enjoy the craziness!
We always order the same:
-crispy tofu w julienne cucumber and peanuts (only $5 for a starter, amazing!)
-curry chicken
- beef rendang
-coffee pork ribs
-roti
Also good is the laksa and butter prawns
Thank god for KKS
Visited KK Malaysian Restaurant a month ago (actually my third visit) and I highly recommend this place. Delicious Malaysian food cooked perfectly well. Friendly and wonderful staff (and done a great job listening to customers who have food and MSG allergies by ensuring orders are free from those unwanted additions that would turn post-meal times a headache or heartache). Would love to come back again next time
We go here quite a bit and always enjoy it. Great food in a busy authentic restaurant. Try the assam fish as it is the best around. The mains are huge and you don't need one each unless you want to take food home with you.
It pays to ring ahead and book as it is always busy.
If you want a quiet, classy dinner then go somewhere else.
Just had lunch at KK's, it was really great, there was a really cool buzz, prompt efficient service. The only thing that spoilt our meal was there was this really annoying guy complaining at the next table that he had to pay $1 for tea, unbelievable! He was a tall bald guy with glasses. Why do these people eat out, they should stay at home! Overall a really nice lunch, thanks KK's.
Dinner for 10!! Food is delicious!!! Prices affordable!!! Highly recommend KK Malaysia, ordered a variety of dishes from Pork, Fish, Chicken, Hokkien Noodles to Prawns, authentic flavours, each dish tasty!!!!! Heads up on the non english speaking waiting staff, the plastic cups etc etc, but hey with the food so tasty who cares!!!!
Food: Pretty good, one of the more authentic places, and they have a lot of tasty dishes! I really like the food here.
Atmosphere: None, it's a very small place that is always busy.
Service: Since it is always busy, service tends to be slow and very to the point.
Price: Price point is at an average range, the sizes of the servings are according to the price.
Conclusion: Despite the lack of atmosphere and service, the food is pretty darn good, definitely love a lot of their dishes, I'd recommend the place but warn people of the setting and service (food makes up for it though, in my books anyway).
- Wonderful authentic Malaysian food
- Generous Serves
- Good value for money for a cheap meal.
KKs is a small, budget Malaysian restaurant. The food is superb!! reason why its always busy. The only thing you have to be aware is their green tea. They offer you green tea but they dont tell you that you have to pay for it.. You just get a shock when you arrive at the counter to pay for your meal plus the 5 pots of green tea you've had :)
Parking - There's always parking on the side street whenever we've come here.
Takeaways - We've done takeaways and its really good too.
Super delicious , cheap and generous helpings. Fantastic. Only downsides it can get really busy and service can be a bit trying, there also isn't really 'decor' so to speak. But the food is amazing, tasty and fresh. Have subsequently been back many times. Very good.
mmmmm mamee chicken!
(the four stars is compared to malaysian food in malaysia)
KK remains one of my favourite restaurants. Food quality is consistently high. Their Mee Goreng is to die for! Also love their Hainanese Chicken on rice. Service is great and unpretentious. It has always been enjoyable dining at KK.
Only thing I'd add is that the portions are really generous. Bring an appetite or failing that a Big Doggie!
We tried this place because it always, I mean ALWAYS looks full from the street so we thought it was worth a try. Such a pleasant surprise. The place is tiny with half the seating outdoors but the food is excellent and the staff do a great job of keeping track of each customer despite the chaotic feel of the place. Next best thing to living in KL.
....and the still reigning nz heavyweight champion has gotta be KK for Malaysian dining.
Best Creamy chicken Laksa
Best Nasi Lemak with blue rice
Best Ling Collar Noodle soup
Best Deep Fired Tofu
Best waitress under pressure (cute too)
Best food presentation
Worst for finding car parking on weekends
Worst best kept secret!
The best malaysian we've had.
----- 01 Sep, 2009 -----
Best malaysian food we've had. Just hard to get in sometimes if it's full (which is always is!).
great food..dint miss butter chicken.
one of the best butter chicken in entire new Zealand.
Delicious authentic Malaysian food. Atmosphere is bustling, although it does feel a little grimy (they still have an A rating). BUT the food is really amazing. Had the Deep Fried Tofu which was served with shredded cucumber and onion and drizzled with Sweet Chilli Sauce and crushed peanuts. Tofu melted in your mouth. And spring rolls are best I've tried. Not greasy at all, and delicious. Mains were just as good.
kk's has a awesome environment and the food is the best Ive ever had never go any were else seriously recommend it you wont be disappointed.
By far the best malaysian food in town.
They make it to your taste, but authenticity stays. Portions are large - and super yummy. Totally worth the wait, and the money..
KK is very Malaysian in every way possible. Its ambience, the staff (talkative Malaysian Uncle for example), the service (needing to keep catching the staff's attention to get served) and definitely the food. Go in big groups for dinner as KK's dishes are LARGE! It's best to try a bit of everything by ordering 3-4 dishes for around 6 people. Rice is also refillable here! They have beautiful poached chicken, comes with blanched beansprouts, soy sesame oil and the legendary garlicky chili. Their KK chicken--deep fried chicken pieces--is legendary; it's crunchy and juicy, savory and spiced in every single way. Try the Malaysian tofu as entree too.
A bit of a downer, on my recent visit I had to wait 40+ minutes for my lunch; I suspect this is a waiter's error as people who came after us had already gotten their food and left by the time my food arrives on the table.
It's always packed though, so it's best to call for a booking, especially if you're planning to come at dinnertime or be prepared to wait for a table. Their lunch menu is good and cheap too, also comes with huge portion.
A few minutes up the road from me is KK Malaysian. Whenever you drive past KK's it is packed and even in Winter people will be feasting on spicy Malaysian delights at the outside tables, despite the cold. There will likely be people waiting too.
To kick things off we had KK Spring Rolls, homemade and vegetarian. They were light, crisp tasty morsels dunked in the sweet chilli sauce. Alongside these the Deep Fried Tofu, served with julienne onion, cucumber, wok roasted grated peanut and sweet chilli sauce. A couple at the table were confirmed tofu fans and the rest of us were persuaded to try it. I have never had tofu as I really just don't get the point of it, but I was willing to give it a go. The dish was very good, the sharp onion, fresh clean cucumbers, toasty peanuts and a sweet chilli hit all working wonderfully well together and definitely lifted the tofu. What can I say about tofu...I still really don't get the point of it. I can't really say I like or dislike it.
For the main event we ordered a veritable feast to be shared. This is the best way to go at KK's as it is highly likely you will want to eat everything. From a previous visit I recalled the KK Special chicken and it didn't disappoint. Marinated chicken is twice cooked - deep fried and stir fried with garlic, onions, birds eye chillies, spring onion and a little salt. These are sweet, hot, succulent and terribly moreish. Polishing off a whole plateful would not be a problem.
To cover of the curry we had Beef Rendang was fragrant and aromatic with just a little heat and topped with toasted coconut. Also on the table were ribs. We were going to go with the KK Special ribs which like the chicken I am sure would have been quite delectable, but we were persuaded to branch out and try something different and plumped for the Coffee Ribs. Tender pork coasted in a coffee infused marinade and topped with sesame seeds. The pork was incredibly tender and there was the quite subtle hint of coffee.
We also sampled some noodles, Fried Kuey Teow. They were fried flat rice noodles with dark soy sauce with bean sprout, chicken and seafood, satisfying and really quite moreish. For a vegetable dish we had the eggplant with chicken, shrimp and spices. Full of flavour and a new way with eggplant for me. However, the other stand out of the evening was the Lak Zhi Fish. Whole snapper with a tomato based sauce with fresh chilli and ginger topped with spring onion and coriander. The sauce was so full of flavour, fragrant and it had the whole hot sour and sweet thing going on. It was incredible...what I would give for the recipe to that sauce.
And all up, for what can only be described as a feast,$21 each! An absolute bargain for what was totally delicious, yes delicious! Full of flavour, aromatic, sweet, hot, sour and a little spicy...perfect fto warm and nourish the soul.
The dinner started a bit slowly. 4 of us had booked, and 5 arrived, which was no problem because there was a huge table being cleared. We did have a few minutes of waiting in the cold, though. It took quite a while for anyone to take our order, and then it took quite a while for any food to arrive. One lovely waitress did however fill up our glasses by hand, since there were no more water bottles available! Every dish carried past our table looked delicious and we were starving by the time our dishes appeared. I had the mummy pork ribs- somewhat like Vietnamese caramelised pork but with more sweetness than saltiness. There was a much stronger burnt-sugar taste to them than I'd expected, and we decided they also tasted slightly like vegemite. The pieces were, however, deboned which was a nice surprise, and overall quite tasty. The KK chicken, with a garnish of fried curry leaves, was fantastic and quickly disappeared. The laksa, shared by two, was more than big enough to share- there must have been well over two litres of it! That, too, tasted incredible. A beer ordered at the start, however, didn't appear until three quarters of the way through the meal when the waiter was reminded. Despite what seemed to be inefficient service, the food coming out of that kitchen is inexpensive, interesting and well worth going back for.
There are lots of malysian cuisine in town, hard to say which one is better as we are not born in malaysia, but KK is for sure a good choice if you are around greenlane. My wife and her uncle like it very much, so we visit it lots of times, not bit space, you sometimes you need to eat in the outside area, so book early!
We usually order deep fry tofu, it's very tasty and refreshing, just a good start. For the main , I like curry chicken, KK RIB, curry fish, beef rendang, the curry leaves on top just make the dishes so tasty and different , it's good to try.
Delicious, big dishes of authentic Malaysian flavours! Get the cereal eggplants 😋 and the famous Hainanese chicken rice. Quite a small restaurant with not too many tables, so best to book!
It's a lovely Malaysian shop, pet-friendly as it has an partlycovered outdoor portion. Very genuine, with a rather mixed clientele. I noticed several regulars are having fish head rice noodles, the portion is so substantial, it can feed at least two. I ordered Mummy Chicken, it's an unusual item, one which I have not seen on other M'sian store. Basically sugar-fried, sprinkled with white sesame, thus a striking black-and-white contrast. The caramelized chicken tastes slightly sweet with sesame aroma, is that Mummy's cooking? I am enchanted, albeit not my memory of home cooking. A lovely experience for me.
Had seafood laksa ($21?) and a large char kuay teow ($26.50?) and a tea. All yummy as as a Singaporean and really good portion, but I must say mama kopitiam is still my favourite laksa. Ambience is a bit dull and old but clean enough. Kudos to the non Asian waiter as it looked like he was also cooking these excellent meals!
The food was good and the quantity was reasonable. The only issue was the place. The place is a tight fit between tables. If you are doing a takeaway, the place is not an issue and recommended.
The spice level is less. Spicy food was just fine compared to an Indian medium spicy
I came in with my family last night with low expectations, left with full bellies and lots of leftovers.
Arrived to see a run-down looking restaurant in a separate room from the kitchen area, which seemed a bit odd. Soft drinks came out in cans when most places would pour it into a glass with ice, but this is a non-issue. Spring rolls were piping hot and delicious. Mains were massive portions with nice strong flavours but they all came out at very different times, so we had to wait. Decorations were nice, but unfortunately, they couldn't distract from the cheap feel of the place, especially when prices were anything but. Staff here are amazing however, very welcoming and made me enjoy being here.
Overall, this place probably just needs a good redesign to make it feel less dark and claustrophobic. Will probably return for more spring rolls!
Good food. We ordered quite a few dishes for pickup/takeaway for a family gathering and everything was cooked on time. The food was good and they had decet portions. The standouts were their nasi lemak rice - very flavourful, they nailed it and KK Special fried chicken and pork ribs - delicious, would make for good drinking food. The only dish that didn't quite live up to the others was the beef rendang, it still tasted alright but lacked the usual richness and they don't use beef cubes so was a little wierd for me. Personally, I'd take it off the menu and keep working in it in the background. The spice levels were surprisingly low but it'll be to cater for local palettes. You can buy chopped chillies and their sambal which was very good.
Still a great Malaysian restaurant in my opinion. The food is authentic (albeit usually lacking a tad bit of spiciness) and the portions are usually quite generous.
Am a fan of their soup noodle dishes (Seafood Laksa comes to mind).
Celebrated a birthday treat here with brunch. Have been here before and their menu cuisine has a great selection as our table quickly became a feast. Can't pinpoint a favourite dish, its all yummy! It pays to buy a section when you're in a group so its easy to try the different selections and you can takeaway after which is great for after snacks when you get home.
Amazing food! Classic Malaysian food in Auckland, can’t recommend enough. Every time we come to Auckland, we come here. The owner is amazing and consistently shows how much he cares about the restaurant. Staff are all friendly and definitely cheap enough. Would recommend!!
busy all night, fun out of table from 6pm on friday. so we didn't wait a table on first coming. then we came earlier on the second day.
Food r absolutely worth the price, huge portion, authentic taste, friendly staff. steamed chicken is tender and juicy, mee goreng is the classic malay fried noodle, so good.
The food here is the best. I advise the mummy pork ribs and the tom yum fish head noodles. Most importantly, the food is super duper yummy. There aren't many tables. You can pretty much walk in and get a table during non-peak hours. Otherwise amazing.

One of best Malaysian cuisine everything is so delicious but the only problem is we always need to wait for a little bit time to get the dish especially at dinner time, I recommend that don’t go to this restaurant if you can wait. I like this restaurant so much even after 15 years. VH
Came here today. The fish soup vermicelli was nice and creamy, not too fatty as well. Quite a nice warm soothing meal. Nasi lemak, which is my favourite Malaysian dish, it is a famous dish here as well. The presentation was nice as always with the bluish coconut rice. But today I feel the rice is not as good. The rice was cold and not enough coconut flavour. The rendang was very good, and everything else was not bad. They are missing the crunchy anchovies which is a key piece of ingredient of this dish. Overall is still very yummy. Wish they gave us complementary hot chinese tea though.
The customer service is quite good good and the staffs are welcoming. Fair prices and nice food
Consistently taste good.
We ordered curry laksa fish noodles, Wan tan hor, beef rendang Nasi lemak, fried mee hon.
