Mexicali Fresh is ooo lala damn damn damn 10/10 no cap one of the best places in town for Mexican food. Always come here with friends or boyfriends or just anyone this is like my go to place to get food in town and the view is gorgeous on a nice sunny hot day! I always get the chicken quesadilla every time it's my absolute favourite nothing can beat it on god. Go right now GO! get your mexican sis because it's to die for. x
The original Mexicali, pretty quiet vs. days past. But so is the case for all these Auckland brands that have expanded dramatically. Had the barbacoa quesadilla and it was really fresh as usual, although a bit soggy. Side sauces delicious. Service was decent, only issue there were lots of birds flying around focused on a few un-bused tables. Regardless, is always consistently good, can't go wrong with the burritos here either.
Service was alright. The overall place is really cute and there are lots of places to sit. The food tasted great and came quickly. Really nice place but could work a bit on the service.
Ma Taco was well filled, overflow with sour cream & topped off with spicy salsa. Ma taste buds were hanging on da floor with hungry. Washed it down with a steiny pure to finish it off.
Family outing in the city, getting hungry, see a familiar sign and boom we know where we are going.
Fresh, simple food with great flavour. Guys and girls serving were friendly and attentive. Food was great 👍🏻

Definitely one of my absolute favourite places to go and eat!!! They have delicious foods with great portions and I eat there almost every weekend. The only letdown is the customer service, sometimes the staff can be very rude and impatient.
Love the food. My go to is the vegetarian taco salad! Load that thing up and then add extra salsa. They also now do a jackfruit option too, which is nice, however as it is smoked it can get a little sickly!
Came here for a quick dinner a few nights ago.
Ordered the jackfruit nachos as we were after a vegetarian meal. I love how you can see the food prepared right in front of you and there's lots of options when it comes to fillings. I also love that you can choose between sour cream or chipotle and guacamole is free for vegetarian dishes! I very much enjoyed the jackfruit however my partner found it too sweet.

Got staff lunch here today and was actually very impressed! Got the pork carnitas quesadilla (pulled pork), highly recommended as the pork was very yummy. Could have had slightly more cheese but great flavours. Definitely you need to get the fruit salsa, basically I'd recommend getting every possible side / topping to make it a flavour explosion. The corn chips are pretty nice but definitely need some salsa or guacamole. Churros are also nice, not too oily. Yum :) one of the best staff lunches and not too soggy at all. I would recommend. My only gripe is that I find it very expensive for the size, generally Mexican food is pretty overpriced in Auckland, so not surprising.
I've been here a couple of times now and the food has been great every single time! The first time I took the quesadilla with chicken and the nachos with vegetables, the other time I took the quesadilla with vegetables; the food was both time so delicious. Also, the view at the harbor is very relaxing on a nice Sunday afternoon ;).
Went here today for the $1 tacos today! My friends and I all got around 6-8 tacos per person and my god they were so filling! The line started getting big after we just ordered so we went there at the right time!

Love coming here on $3 taco Tuesday's 🌮 such good value for money. The tacos are delicious and come with all the toppings you choose. Can't go wrong at $3 a pop
$10 for a bowl of nachos on Thursdays is a great deal, especially for how filling it is! There's also $5 beers as well as an extra bonus. Chips were nice and crispy, and toppings were piled high. I really liked how you can grab as much salsa as you like at the salsa station; I finished all my toppings before my chips so I chucked a spoonful of salsa on them.
Went on a Thursday night, attracted by the $10 nachos. The filling to corn chip ratio was good, and it was overall a simple, tasty and satisfying meal. There were only two staff preparing the food and the manager at the till so it was pretty quiet, but the service was polite and fast - no problems. I'd definitely go back again on a Thursday evening.
Went there with my family and friends a couple of times now! We all loved the food and most of us ordered 2 tacos each. We didnt realize that it would fill us up since it was just tacos. But damn. I had food coma after that. The Minced Beef is too die for. Definitely coming back here a lot.
Was pleasantly surprised here. Beers were cold. Salsa was hot ànd spicy.
Really enjoyed the jalapeno chicken quesidillas.
I highly recommend it. Pity about the early closing time.

Been there yesterday along with my better half. She is a mexican food fan. Tried their nachos chicken one. It was good in taste. Good amount. Nice environment inside. And nice place out there.
Went here for a quick churros while waiting for a table at the crab shack. Amazing location and you should try the viaduct+churros combination.

Taco Tuesday is the best lunch special out! $3 for a taco is really good value. Good fresh food all round and nice easy menu to choose from
Its hard to come by good Mexican food in Auckland. I have to say, that Mexicali is probably the closest you'll get to it (unfortunately). Its not an amazing dining experience but its a solid place to eat. The waterfront location also helps its cause out.
I usually get the Jalapeno Quesadilla, which is pretty good. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend anything else off their menus. Not worth getting any Jarritos.
Loveeee the food and friendly people at this restaurant. Food are amazing. Chicken Taco Salad is my ultimate favourite! This place has great view and the margarita is so nice and refreshing... Love it!! Will definitely be back.
Great service, fast service, beautiful well seasoned food. Similar to a sub way set up with how you pick your meat, sauces etc. Have tried the chicken quesadilla, chicken taco salad and beef Nacho's which were all tasty. Absolutely no complaints, it's not the flashest venue but worth a try and very filling!
Never had a bad meal here at this Mexicali :) location is nice and the staff are friendly. The only dish I don't really go for anymore are the quesadias as they aren't good value for money like the rest of the menu. It isn't super cheap here but reasonably fair priced.
Mexicali fresh serves the best chicken quesadillas in town! SO GOOD OMG today we had pulled pork nachos which was real yummy as well the pork was served freshly cooked with all the yummy juices in it still and also their food is generally a good amount. Price wise it's a bit pricey for a student like me but definitely worth trying! Gonna come back for sure ❤️
Love Mexicali Fresh for a weekday lunch! It's easy, fast and delicious! I always go for the taco salad with added guacamole! They also have self serve salsas and hot sauce so if your a hot freak like myself you can load yourself up with the heat!
They also have great weekday specials like Taco Tuesday and Thursday is $5 beers! Love the new refurb too!
Myself, my husband and baby went here for lunch on Sunday. Lovely feel as we walked in. Easy to move around with the pram as it is a large place. The food was fresh and yummy. Costumer service was great. Although a bit thin on the free chips, still a good experience. Definetly one of our favorite Mexican cafes.
Love love LOVE Mexicali - the mini bueno burrito is my favourite! The new fit out in this particular Mexicali is really cool and inviting - they've done a great job. Loving the number of vegan options available and their service is always super quick.
Great location. It's nice to sit outside during the warmer months with a beer , some friends, and bowl of nachos to share. My go-to meal is the grilled chicken taco salad. Such a huge serving; I always feel satisfied after. A little upset that prices have gone up in recent years, but if you opt for the daily specials then you can save a fair bit. :)
Great place to get your mexican food fix. Reasonable price and generous portion. I had the burrito with beef and it's amazing! Will defintely recommend to my friends.
As a former North American, I know it's difficult to find good Mexican food here in Auckland. Mexicali Fresh is the exception - I don't know how they do it, but whatever it is, keep doing it! I love the casual dining here - you order at the counter, watch them assemble your meal, and take it to your table. Easy! I'm a big fan of the taco salad with Carnitas, and I always go for the guacamole. There are good vegetarian options as well.
Favourite lunch venue! Food never disappoints and portions are sizeable. Menu is a bit confusing with different pricing but overall highly recommend.
Went for my usual lunch time feed, and noticed the great new menu with finally smaller sized meals cheaper. I have always seen Mexicali fresh as to expensive, but with all the other foods, takeaways and restaurants going up In price, the affordability of Mexicali is fantastic, considering how much you actually get.
I love the little corn chips, and really like that you now get a handful in the bag for free. Cheers guys !

Nice spot, right on the water. Large outdoor deck makes for a great place to meet with friends. Funky atmosphere, friendly, funny staff. Recommend the quesadillas, nacho salad bowl and churros. Good selection of imported Mexican and American beer, and a personal fav: margarita slushies!
If you are looking for Mexican fast food, this is the place to go.
Silverware could be a bit cleaner and I'd welcome a method of producing less rubbish. But I guess that often comes with fast food...
Fantastic, I tried a few Mexican places while I was in Auckland for a week, Mexicali Fresh was easily the best. I had the Nachos with mince, it was so tasty, it's great how you can add extra sauce if you want. Would be nice if you could have a mix of meats and not pay extra, like still get the same amount but made up of beef, pork and chicken, cos they all sound awesome.
Great food, down to earth, when you say 'meet you at Mexicali' everyone knows where you mean. A must try in Auckland.

For anyone who complains about prices , jees for that matter everything in NZ is to dang pricey but me being an American Mexicali is the place I want to eat at to feel like home. All I can say is that the soft taco's are it for me cuz its perfect just right taste amount , doesnt get better then that. I have tried the borrito's Just as awesome but those things are bigger then my head and I can't finish them if I do you would propbably catch me nappin at there booth lol. Any way Mexicali and a few other places I eat at . Not much happening in Auckland when it comes to food.
We first ate here about 5 years ago and got hooked on the food and the location. It's just like what I grew up with in San Francisco. It's a favorite place for us to meet up with our friends expecially when we have other Americans with us. The food is always great, the margaritas are the best, and now you can get a Budweiser believe it or not.
Every time I visit this restaurant I feel very satisfied with my meal. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, and the price is low.
You pay little, but receive great quality food.

have been 3 times now. pretty fresh. the hard shells are much better than the soft. pork carnitas is really tasty. the mince is spiced a little odd. the grilled chicken wasn't very good when i tried it unfortunately. haven't tried the barbacoa beef yet. the refried beans are awesome though. the white rice is fine, but wish they had mexican rice in addition. bit on the expensive side. extra dollar charge for a spoonful of guac on a $13.50 burrito doesn't sit well with me and my wallet. best bet is to go on Tuesdays for 2for1 tacos. margaritas are a little too sweet, but perfectly enjoyable out on the patio overlooking the bay.
Great flavours, everthing was really fresh and the service was quick. We had a great table outside looking at the ferries and the cruise ship. Probably the best value meal at the Viaduct.
Very good staff. Very helpful in explaining things and didn't mind us moving the furniture around for a big group of 15. Atmosphere was a bit dead, due to only having 2 customer groups. But then again was a Monday Night. Kitchen looked clean. Food tasted good, quantity wasn't a problem. Did get full on one burrito. Very clean process as the food is prepared similar to Subway. Plenty of options for fillings. This is more of a bar-ish sort of restaurant rather than a full fledged restaurant.
As a rule, most Mexican style food in NZ is extremely bland. If you're into bland in a big way, like me, then that's just fine.
Mexicali Fresh CBD is in a great position on the waterfront: right beside the harbour, right beside the cruise ship dock, in easy walking distance of the other Waterfront attractions. If I want a filling meal with a bunch of salad and some refried beans, then I come here, especially if I have to think of a vegetarian friendly option for companions.
I like to order the taco salad with refried beans, chicken (boring), loads of salad, and the mild fruity salsa option (wow, super boring). To top it off, go for a guava flavoured soda! Pink and tasty!
Not cheap, not expensive, but very filling, and you can sit anywhere you like in the colourful, spacious store. Outside is best, of course, if you like gazing at the harbour, and talking to pigeons. I do.
Easily one of my favorite Mexican joints. The food is reallllllly goood, the taco salad and nachos being my go-to dishes. The service is fast and fun , with the staff making the occasional joke. The set up is kind of similar to subway in the sense that you pick and choose what you want in your meal which is great for the picky type (like myself). The seating is very cool and funky with a few seats inside and large outdoor area also. I highly recommend trying Mexicali for yourself so you can enjoy it as much as I do. Woof!
Mexicali Fresh is the Subway of Mexican Food, but with better atmosphere, food and alcohol. What more could you want? It's a good option for a fast and delicious lunch, or a cheap dinner with a group of friends. They have daily specials as well as a loyalty card and they send you vouchers on your birthday (score). Foodwise it's your typical Tex-Mex selection of tacos, burritos, enchiladas and taco salads.
One of the few places that offer great Mexican cuisine. The food is made to order, and they have a wide variety of options - burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas and salads. Good for vegan and vegetarians as well!
My favorite choices are the Chargrilled Chicken burrito or the Quesadilla. I am however, always bummed out about paying the extra dollar for the guacamole, because mexican food is not the same without it!
I also like the fact that the tables have their own serviette docks, and I prefer not having to beg for more tissues from the staff while eating a messy burrito!
Both the Quay Street and the Newmarket restaurants are good for groups and have enough seating available. Being able to order beer or margheritas with your meal is an added bonus of course :)
I personally love the food here. Being from Brazil, I often miss my hometown cuisine and Mexican food is some of the closest I can get. I’m a fan of their Taco Salads. This shop got a great space, a privileged location and a great staff.
Had the Mango Chicken Salad. Garlic & lime chargrilled chicken with fruit salsa and cumin lime vinaigrette. Delicious, fresh ingredients. Guacamole was tasty. Surprisingly authentic Cal-Mex food. Not spicy but big on flavor. Another in my party had a burrito which he thought was bland.
Love coming here for lunch during summer! Great spot with nice outdoor seating and fresh food packed full of flavour. Highly recommended!

A great Mexican restaurant, spacious, clean and well-located. I would recommend the charcoal chicken quesadilla along with a frozen margarita. Great views of the harbour and amazing food. The price is fair and you can also authentic Mexican food, cocktails and desserts. A nice place to bring friends or family. Highly recommended.
We've enjoyed a couple of locations of this chain of restaurants, but the Auckland branch has the advantage of a great location by the water. It also has a very pleasant interior. It's always so nice to have a relatively inexpensive and nice spot to enjoy lunch on the Viaduct.
