This cafe is really a hidden gem.Lovely food and coffee in a beautiful relaxing setting.Service is great as well.Highly recommended.Would like to go back and try there high tea next ☕
really good food! platter looks small in photos but when you are eating it it’s very fulfilling. Paid around $17-19 for each platter for four people. The customer service was lovely and wait time was faster than expected!!
Went there for lunch on a monday, lovely place with spacious garden. Great service. Pasta was nice, Thai beef salad was huge but abit too much sauce. Will go back to try something else next time :)
Went here with my family and the food is amazing! Had the waffles and the servings are generous. Tasted from others' orders the creamy mushrooms, fish and chips and omelette. Everything was well seasoned and just delicious. Seems like you can't really go wrong in ordering from their kitchen menu. Staff were really nice and very accomodating. It took a while for our food to come but understandable since they are very busy during brunch. Worth the wait though.
Lovely cafe hidden in botany. Heaps of tables to choose from weather it is in one of the dining rooms or outside. Very spacious so doesn’t feel like your typical noisy cafe. Lovely cottage feel with a great atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and food came out with in minutes of ordering. The avocado Smash was delicious as well as the hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend this place :)
Wasn’t really for me but I can see how people would like how it’s like a retreat. It’s quite homey and I feel would be great for older people or for a change of pace. Food was decent although a bit pricy. Staff was friendly and the coffee was good which I feel like is the main part of a cafe. The treats next to the counter weren’t bad either, but it’s just not for everyone. My actual score for Historic Cafe would be between three to four but since you can’t give that I rounded up mainly because of the atmosphere.
This cafe is so lovely! I haven’t been here for 10 years and I think it is run by new owners who recently bought this cafe. She was so wonderful and very friendly.
It is very rare to see the owners coming to engage with the customers. She was helping my 20 months son ride on the toy tractor. Was so great to see!
The food and coffee were amazing! I had the Thai beef salad and my friend had the beef burger and both of them were so delicious! The portions were so worth the price! I had to take half of my salad away and had it for dinner. I would definitely recommend this place! Also such a nice environment for children too as they have a big outdoor area with toys, sand pit and tire swing for children to play with. Would definitely be coming again!
Great ambience here- my favourite secret cafe. ;-)
Drinks are good - wine and coffee.
Service good and very friendly, and sociable.
They go the extra mile. '-))
Everything was top notch- best coffee, fab European cakes, great food- Thai curry was exceptionally good, and they had lovely offerings for a classy lunch- Pulled pork pie, home made soup, etc
This is a historic house, original homestead - so the home made food is a great fit '-)
Also they have great Devonshire Teas.

Friendly staff and stunning grounds. Coffee by the young asian gentlemen was to die for. A true wee gem!
I recommend the homemade beef burgers and B.L.A.T to send you into the best food coma. Perfect place to unwind after a long week. New owners have really transformed this historical slice of heaven.
I feel like this is the second time I’ve left this place thinking the customer service is exceptional. The asian man (I think he is the owner), is always polite, smiling and treats the customers with the greatest customer service I’ve ever seen. Although I don’t always come here, I am leaving the place already looking forward to my next visit. Cannot praise this place more!
Awesome food , friendly staff also
This place remind me of old movies, i must appreciate the chef whom of ever cooking there, food is perfectly cook, i can feel that chef use best ingredients to cook
Will come back
Must try for everyone
Driveway will shake your food around on the way out 😉 Mobility needed as steps, narrow corridor and multi rooms need some navigation. The cabinet food is attractive and cooked food appears in generous portions. We halved a large yellow curry filo with salad. Better to offer water than coffee and cakes before the main meal. Basic restroom facilities out back. Hope to return soon.
We took a drive to this Café last weekend and were greeted by friendly staff and an array of freshly baked sweet treats and savoury items in the cabinet. We ordered big breakfast and waffles 🧇 with bananas and berry compote. Everything was cooked well and tasted delicious 😋. Recommend the caramel slice as well.
Yummy cafe down a driveway in Botany. Car park was more full than I expected but can easily park on the grass. Friendly staff and the food and the drinks came out quite quickly. Very good portion sizes but a tad more expensive than other cafes, I assume it’s because of the views and peacefulness you get while sitting outside. I would come back.
Hidden Gem in East Auckland. Excellent place for a relax lunch and kids can enjoy the natural play area fully fenced
Thoroughly enjoyed having morning tea with colleagues at this cute historical cafe. LOVE the country feel and peaceful surroundings. Superb location and ample space for kids to play/explore around. Excellent customer service and delicious food.
Will definitely be back.
Excellent presentation of the breakfasts we had.. see pics! Great prices for Auckland and awesome freindly service. The cabinet food looked delicious too... So we'll be back to try some more!
Love love love this gorgeous historic cottage. Really worth a visit just to go inside it. Tucked behind Kings plant barn on Botany road. Awesome customer service & food was tasty as well. Can't wait to go back!

Today I stumbled across the awesome Hawthorn Dene Historic Country Cafe. It sits at the end of a country lane, and is much bigger than it looks from the outside. It is quirky, and quint. It has lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and a big play area for kids, making it the perfect place for mums to enjoy a coffee, food, and company in a beautiful setting.
The downside is that it's quite pricey. $7.50 for a small slice of cake, is a bit hefty, but yes, you do pay for the space and ambiance. You have to get a menu from the front counter, then find a place to sit, view the menu, and go back to the counter to put your order in.

A very good vibed cafe, food is presented exquisitely and the best part is they have a play ground for kids to enjoy!!! 😊
The staff are all friendly and accommodating, price is reasonable. I love the touch of "history" within the house itself, and the paintings on the wall are one of a kind! Will definitely be back!
Lovely quaint place for a cosy meal with your friends and family. Playground for kids and different sized rooms for various group sizes. We had beef salad, chicken pie and almond orange cake. Everything was yummy.
Hasn't been there for awhile and on my returned today was surprised by the variety of their cabinet food, serving some pretty looking cakes ans slices, taste good too
This is an amazing little hidden gem. We found this while seeking for brunch around Temple. Only a short distance, amazing staff and service as well as good coffee and food. Would not hesitate coming back here again. (Many families choose here as children can enjoy playing at back yard garden).
Taken here by a friend, driven past the long driveway for years and never noticed. Basically this is a historical house converted into a cafe, the established gardens are beautiful. The house is gorgeous in a dilapidated way. Service was friendly and prompt. Cake and coffee were excellent and delivered to my table. Has toilets, inside and outside dining tables, plenty of parking, oozing character, lovely gardens. Must show your covid vaxcination card to enter.
Will definitely come back.
Love love loved this cafe. A hidden gem. A must go place for breakfast or lunch. Such an amazing place great price and service. Will be back again 🥰
This is one of Auckland best hidden gems! the atmosphere is unique and charming, it is a very cozy cafe with lots of indoor/outdoor seating and a huge backyard with an amazing garden. But it doesn't stop there, the food is the main attraction, we ordered the Thai beef salad and a cabinet halloumi sandwich, both were some of the best meals I've had in Auckland and the desserts are on par if not better than the super expensive cafes in Auckland city. This is truly a must visit if you are in Auckland for lunch or afternoon tea!
Amazing cafe! Very cozy, good food, good service and incredible place for children. Thank have a huge outdoor area for kids with Wendy houses, bikes, sandpit, swing... We will be back with friends. Best place to spend lunch and afternoon with kids
Very cool place for relaxing, love the atmosphere
Perfect place for weekend lunch, the Belgium waffle was very nice, but they didn’t have ice cream...the vibe was relaxing. Definitely recommend an outdoor seating on a sunny day.
This is a historical house turned into a restaurant. The road going in has pot holes everywhere. Everything is great, the price the food and the service. The only thing I could say is that it is in need of some TLC. Curtains coming off the walk in the toilet (need new ones), outside dining was hampered by the soft grass and mud. Inside nothing really flowed. Initially we couldn't find the reception. Look I will go back as the overall experience was a good one.
