Every time I go the food is always delicious and the service is great. Paying up front before sitting can be a bit different than most places but saves the hassle after. Love their chicken laksa, curry puffs and the marmite chicken is tasty. Always a favourite!
First time there with my son and his girlfriend, they rave about it and now I know why.
Amazing food, great prices and generous portions, will go back on a regular basis
Best Malaysian food which my children always want to go and never get disappointed when trying new dishes. Good value for money too.
Good food. Good service. Authentic Malaysian food. Feels like home.
Love love love this restaurant, great customer service and great food.
I discovered this lovely and authentic Malaysian eatery when I visited Greenlane dental next door. No regrets as I think this has become a favourite place for wanton mee and the best hokkien mee I have discovered in Auckland.
Like:
1. They serve a good menu with a lot of variety. They even have teh Tarik, curry puffs and soya bean milk!
2. Must orders are their hokkien mee - the broth is rich and so satisfying. Their wanton noodles are tasty, well plated as you can see from the photos and full of ingredients. Their roti canai is also good with a good chicken curry dip.
3. You see a lot of locals there which is also a good thumbs up for authenticity and taste.
4. Good ambience with a nice outdoor seating area.
I have not tried their desserts or their wat tan hor which gives me another reason to revisit. Highly recommended if you want good quality authentic Malaysian food.

Weekend well spent - @Denny Setiawan
Asian food for the weekend, we ordered kon low mee and chicken curry laksa. I really love their curry laksa, it’s really yummy and I think I will come back again for another menu.
Went in for a quick dinner but the foods turned out amazing. We ordered the Hainanese Steamed Chicken, a bowl of chicken rice, veggies with oysters sauce, and tea Tarik. The chicken is very tender and juicy, and gotta have the spicy sauce! I love tea Tarik in general, and for the one we ordered it’s good value with a big cup size. Will come back to try a few more dishes:)
I have yet to find a laksa in Auckland as good as the one here. Crave it anytime its cold or feeling a bit under the weather. The char kway teow is also worth a mention. Wait times can be a bit long so always best to call up and make your order ahead of time.
Nice food , friendly service . When we went it was around closing time but they greeted us and took order and served us well. Definitely will come back to try other dishes .
I came here for lunch because I haven’t had Malaysian cuisine in so long and decided to try out Mamarich. We arrived around 11:30 and it was pretty busy already but food came out at a quick pace. You have to go to the counter to order and pay before you receive your food and water is self serve, hence, I can’t judge the service. I got the Hainan chicken rice, my brother got the seafood wat tan sang mee and a plate of chicken rice, my mum got the chicken shredded noodle and they also got the fried tofu to share.
My Hainan chicken rice was delicious, the chicken was juicy and tender and on top of a bed of bean sprouts which has been sitting in the soy sauce and chicken oil to add more flavour into it. There was ginger and scallions on top of the chicken skin but I chose not to eat the skin to avoid extra fat. The chicken rice was flavoured nicely, perfectly seasoned and you could taste the chicken broth and the occasional pieces of ginger to spice things up. My family also really enjoyed their dishes.
I would come back here for sure and I highly recommend the Hainan chicken rice for a filling lunch.

Simply the best Laksa I’ve ever had! The broth was super flavourful and definitely value for money 😊 Hands down, the best in town !!
Nice experience having lunch at mamarich. A little bit expensive than I expect but food very tasty. Better taste than papparich. Like Char Kuey Teow n Hainan chicken rice. Both of very rich flavour. Kuey teow a little bit salty for me but would be perfect for those heavy taste seekers.
Good little place with good food. Most days for lunch its difficult to get a seat be prepared to wait but food doesn’t take long after order is placed.
Great Malaysian food near my work place!
Summary:
Food Taste: 5 stars
Food Presentation: 5 stars (it's 5 stars for the price)
Service: 5 stars (it's a quick feed place, they serve food quickly so i give 5 stars)
I was a bit skeptical about going there coz i didn't enjoy Papa Rich in the city. I thought they are somehow related as the name suggested but it turned out they are not.
So I gave it a try since then I became a regular.
I usually eat Seafood Laksa, portion is big and taste nice but the only thing is that there are more fish cakes than actual fresh seafood...... but at this price i can't complain that but maybe they could give us an option to add more fresh seafood for an extra price.
I also usually order Curry Puff, they are so nice~
Teh Tarik tea goes really well with the food I ordered, I really like that tea!
Went there a bit after 11am on Sat, the restaurant just opened not long ago but it was almost full house already. The food came out pretty quick and tasted good. I asked for sambal on the side and it’s delicious. Pretty good choice for Malaysian food in the area.
Often pass there, but today is the first time to eat there. It really didn't disappoint us, the dishes were delicious. We ordered Hainan chicken rice and pepper salt chicken rice, both dishes have higher quality than other Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. Highly recommended.
First thing me trying out this place, pretty good but Abit pricey, good meal though so worth it. Mee goreng is hearty dish, Abit more tamato like tho. Labok roll was nice; sorta like an extremely crispy thin sausage. Definitely need to order at least 2 things to get Abit more full
Awesome food, my friends said the laksa was great and the char kueh tiaw vegetarian Noodles were also amazing and great for me being vegetarian gluten free. I would’ve loved a little more spice but that’s just me. Also the Mama Rich tofu was epic (it was a favourite even for the meat eaters) and thoroughly enjoyed the broccoli. Price was also reasonable, we got heaps of food for $120 and we had leftovers to take home. Definitely will be back!
Food- 4/5
Service- 4.5/5
Ambience/location 4/5
I found it really cute to find Mama Rich opposed to our usual father version of Malaysian restaurant. Service was amazingly quick.Didn’t have to wait long for our food considering it was almost a packed restaurant. I had the Roti Canai with the beef rendang with a side of coconut rice. Roti had fluffy and melt in your mouth kind of texture with a semi sweet flavour. It complimented well with the tender beef rendang packed full of spices. You could taste a hint of coconut from the rice but personally I would have liked it more if that taste was a bit more prominent.I was missing a touch of creaminess taste from the coconut. 2nd dish was Char kueh tiaw noodle. Crunch from the vegetables was great and nice chew from the noodles. Again I would have liked a bit more of a savoury taste from the sauce. Teh tarik was creamy and not overly strong.
As we went on a Sunday evening parking was good easy to find.I’m not sure during the day if this would be a problem as it is located along a busy road. Parking area had a numbered “reserved” “24 hr tow away area” it is not clearly labelled which belonged to the restaurant or to the other establishments on the site.We assumed that we could park anywhere as it was empty and it being Sunday.Maybe if going on a weekday during business hours to just clarify where you could park to avoid being towed.
Very friendly service and cozy little place by the intersection. Easy parking. The Char Keuy tiew was on the money and it was the right amount of smokiness and well balanced. Will come back to try more of their dishes.
Cosy shop with friendly staff, the hygiene was good and food delicious. Although I found the flavour to be a bit too strong for my taste. The price range was on the expensive side but worth the money.
Really great place for a warm, quick and filling lunch 👍🏼
Food is good and pretty much the same as other Malaysian places honestly. No let-downs. Staff were really polite. And yeah. :)
The tofu is fresh and non-oily here. My hubby likes the chicken curry and roti. Roti are very fluffy with crunchy outside and soft pillowy interior.
Great place for a quick bite. Hainanese chicken was tender, chicken rice was full of flavour and the accompanying chilli sauce was delicious.
Mee goreng had lots of flavour, went well with the teh tarik.
Have been looking for wonton Mee for quite some time, im glad I have found something similar and edible 🤩🤩🤩 thumbs up for the food, will definitely revisit ✌️✌️✌️

Great option for Malaysian food. The food here is flavourful and is decently priced. Definitely a place to go if you’re craving some warm laksa on a muggy day.
Had the bbq pork laksa. Excuse the half eaten meal. By half, I mean half. Big portions for a good price. The meal was good. Staff was friendly.
Being a Malaysian you love sambal with your food. This place gives chili oil instead of sambal. A little dissapointing with that.
Overl a good place for a quick bite.
I like the hainan chicken here. Really juicy tenter chicken with nice sauce. Really delicious. Also the fish soup rice noodle quite tasty too.
Secret little Malaysian place hidden in the corner of the busy greenlane intersection. Not the cheapest Malaysian place in auckland, but their laksa soup is to die for!
Mamarich provides super affordable and flavourful Malaysian food. The Hainanese chicken was super tender and juicy and Char Kway Teow had that nice smoky “wok hei” and had an appropriate spice level.
Very good milk tea, chicken rice taste good too, and great service!
Will definitely go again.
Only the parking is very limited buy can consider park at Countdown on opposite of the road.
A hidden gem at Gleenrane where we had a sweet/sour pork with rice and a dry chook noodle stir fry with curry sauce with medium plus spice. Order taker say can't be mild as pre-cooked so was eatable when served.
Rates are on the high side with amount served (see pic) so must be the dearest Malay place by far.
Great laksa! Easy parking what else could you want?
Came here feeling a bit dusty after a few Xmas
Beverages the night before. The veggie laksa was huge and made everything better.
Malaysian food is sort of like a massive comfort for me and this place does it right in my opinion.
The food they make is really tasty, i quite like the meegoren, thick noodles, perfectly coated, very good satisfying. They are also one of the few places that make a tom yum fish head soup.
I love fish head soup as it is, but the tom yum version makes it very different from the traditional one, but in a very good way.
It's sour and spicy (tom yum off course), in chinese, we call that kai wei, basically means it's food, that makes you want to eat more food. Vicious cycle.
They also make a killer char kway teow, perfect flavours and textured rice noodle pieces.
I prefer mama rich much more than pap rich or some of the other malay places in central / east Auckland, I find some of the other places to be overly heavy on the salt, but Mama rich makes the flavours quite subtle and is mixed really well.
They also have plenty of parking outside because that's just a pain in most places, good to not to have to worry about that here.
If there is one thing to complain about at Mama Rich it's I think that their portion could be bigger for the price you pay. It's not enough for me to turn away, but would definitely like a slightly bigger portion because their food just taste so damn good.
This is amongst one of the nicest authentic Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. We come here quite a fair bit and have tried a variety of dishes. Food and prices here are 5/5. They have a policy of ordering over the counter and payment first which is good for the restaurant. A good and orderly system, we don’t mind that. The negative thing about this eatery is that they provide very cheap quality tissues that are pathetically thin (single ply) and small. One needs a few pieces of those to wipe properly so I doubt if that is economical at all for something that doesn’t serve the purpose. Most restaurants only provide a piece of serviette for each diner and that is enough. We don’t need a whole box of poor quality half sized tissues that do not wipe properly. It is recommenced to order the rice with meat on the side dishes. We thought we would get at least double portion of meat by ordering the main size without rice (sweet & sour chicken) but the chicken portion was quite small with generous lettuce leaves at the bottom to make the dish bigger. My overall rating would be 4.5 and rounded to 5 since there are no half marks.
First time to dine here at Mama Rich. We ordered lobak roll, beef rendang and chicken laksa. We liked chicken laksa most, it was creamy and has decent serving. They also sell drinks which for me is a bit pricey as compared to others. So to sum up food 4/5 service 5/5 place 3.5/5
Authentic Malay flavours. The best laksa i have ever had. That dish alone is enough for me to come back and recommend to all that enjoys a good laksa. Other dishes worth trying are salt and pepper chicken, curry chicken, char kway teow (super spicy), hananese chicken and rice.
Portion sizes are only just justifiable as the prices are on the pricey end but flavour of the dishes iv tried are worth it.
Service was very fast and workers are very nice and helpful. Can’t wait to return.
It is hidden gen under the office buildings across Gt North Rd and Greenlane Rd. I always order Hainan Chicken Rice and my wife always got Seafood Laksa, deep fried tofu as the side dish if we are really hungry. It is very good place to have some Malay / Chinese food, but if I prefer more traditional Malay, uncle man may be a better choice for me.
Falling in love at the First time with mama rich..we tried nyonya fried rice, fried prawn dumpling, sweet and sour fish fillet with rice...they r amazing and super flavourful. Very friend staff..esp the young guy working to deliver food to the table. Def gonna come back again real soon. Maybe will try the nasi lemak
Friendly staff, great food and I will definitely be back to try some more of the menu. Little hidden gem, worked around here for ages and hadn’t realised it was here. Only gripe, they asked if I wanted it spicy and I said yes but there was no spice at all - no biggie.
Absolutely love this place. Great flavours for a Malaysian restaurant, not a lot of seating but we didn’t have to wait for a table. I ordered Char Kuey Teow (one of my go to dishes) and the portion was great, flavours were amazing and it was well cooked.
My partner had the beef noodle soup and he said it was really flavourful and filling.
Great portions and taste, would definitely recommend.
Been here many times and would like to come back many many more times! One of the best Laksa around and they are super fast and efficient! Good quality food and value for money. Budget aside, perfect place to go if you are on a time constrain too! My favourite restaurant in Greenlane! The only thing is the interior and tissues could have been better, but the food is the hero here!
It was great diner. They improved a lot. I will love this place again:) kind staff and yummy food.
Before:
Well it was just okay for me
I like Malaysian food n heard so many times about Mama rich so i expected a lot.. it wasn’t bad,but it wasn’t really good than i expected.
The first time we've been here was on 22 April. We ordered the Fish Collar Noodle, Seafood Wat Tan Hor and Teh Tarik. These were fantastic and very much authentic. We've searched and tried Wat Tan Hor in many Malaysian/ Chinese restaurants in Auckland and I can say no where beats Mama Rich. It's the best I have found so far.
Tonight we came here again and explored further. We ordered Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang (I requested no peanuts), Curry Chicken Laksa, Salt & Pepper with Rice (i was told that this dish was originally mild spicy but I requested for non spicy) and Teh Tarik.
The Curry Chicken Laksa was a winner. It was very authentic. The curry was creamy and very tasty. The spicy level was very mild. The Salt & Pepper Chicken was very good as well. It was flavourful and tasty. Teh Tarik was good as last time.
As for their Nasi Lemak, I was disappointed to be honest. I didn't get the chance to try their coconut rice (as it was sold out and was replaced with normal white rice). Only a spoonful of sambal (chilli sauce) was served with the dish which was a shame. Not only that, it was tasteless and not spicy at all. Then, I was shocked to learn that they don't actually serve fried anchovies in the dish which is a huge failure! In saying that, the beef rendang was alright, about average but it was too sweet for my preference. The level of spiciness is very very mild. I wouldn't recommend their Nasi Lemak at all. It's better off to choose the Beef Rendang/ Curry Chicken on Rice if anyone would like to try their Beef Rendang/ Curry Chicken.
The food were served rather quick in both of our visits despite being busy. We haven't try the rest of their menu yet but overall, this restaurant is certainly one of the best authentic Malaysian Restaurant in Auckland.
Got takeout from Mama Rich on a rainy Saturday for lunch.
Roti was flakey and noodles were fried nicely. Curry puffs were huge in size and chinese sausage was delicious. Curry chicken was smooth with no bones. The potato was not too hard or soft and was able to soak in the flavour of the curry. Chicken rice in hainan chicken rice was so good! Chicken flavour was really strong. Teh tarik (milk tea iced) tasted refreshing and nice. Kopi was super smooth and one of the best I've tasted. Honestly worth trying for $4.50 only.
simply one of the best Malaysian restaurants in town. Tried almost everything from there now, our favorites are Nasi lemak beef rendang, rich fragrance and so refreshing, favours are perfectly matched. we also love their fish collar soup, the milky rich soup with pickles reminds me of the street smells of Penang. the Laksa was delicious too so did third Mee Goreng!!
don't forget to order a Teh Tarik to go with your meal too.
Forgot to take a photo because I was too hungry!
Ordered the chicken laksa and omg !! I’ve had laksa before but this was soooo GOOD ! I think this is my new fave spot 🙌🏼🍜😍
Went here for lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We ordered the chicken curry laksa and the char quay teow and I can honestly say that it was the best curry laksa I’ve tried in Auckland and in KL. The char quay teow was good but nothing extravagant and tastes a lot like other Malaysian restaurants around Auckland.
The staff were friendly and food was served in a timely manner. There was a very casual and welcoming vibe to the place - would highly recommend.
Love the food! Would usually order dinner after work so the downfall is that they only make a certain quantity of food, so when that runs out you’re obviously forced to order the next best. Nevertheless the flavours and spices are authentic Malaysian cuisine, my usual order definitely the seafood laksa!
Good local Malaysian which we get take out on a regular basis. Things for improvement is not to limit the option of having chicken rice as an seperate order, improving the fish collar noodle soup - soup base, ingredient and noodles as they have some serious competitors down the road.
Love this place. Affordable yummy mayalsian. Laska the size of your head for only $14. Was really packed and super busy but the staff where really apologetic and really quick anyways. Great service & great food.
I have finally tried this place after hearing many good reviews. It did not disappoint. I ordered vegetable laksa and it was good and flavoursome. The customer service and atmosphere feel like food court, but doesn’t matter as the food taste good.
Customer Service: 6/10
Food: 7.5/10
Atmosphere: 6/10
Date: September 2017
Got a Mee Goreng take away for lunch. Noodles were very tasty and quantity was good. I didn’t have my bank account card to pay but lady on the counter and owner were very helpful and were nice enough to accept bank account transfer. Great service and food.
Best tasting Chicken Curry Laksa lunch I have experienced so far in Auckland!! Reasonable prices at $12.50 lunch specials. Nice clean premises and friendly service too. The Fried Kwei Doh was yummy also 😋
May 2018
Back again. We arrived at 12:30pm just before the office crowds came. Efficient service and help yourself to water, cutlery and bowls. We had Kueh Tiew for vegetarians and the classic. They were very different in taste. We loved the soup that came with the fish balls. Vegie with oyster sauce. Laksa with vegies and chicken. Lovely big soup bowls that makes the laksa taste even better. This is our local.
We enjoyed this lunch and had to compare it with Paparich as they both serve Malaysian fast food. We had the dumplings which were nice with thin pastry but my dining company thought it should have more meat. You can taste the freshness as they steam to order and takes a bit longer to arrive than the other dishes. Char Kueh Tiew was delicious and perfect to our taste. Beef soup came in a huge bowl! We found the noodle could be cooked a bit longer but enjoyed the full flavoured soup and tender meat. Beef Rendang with roties was lovely. Rendang was not too spicy and went well with the other dishes. My friend thought it was the best Rendang he had tasted. Overall, we enjoyed Mamarich more than Paparich for their freshness and more home cooked characteristics. Paparich, I have to admit offers a more slick service.
We came again in December and had the Char Kueh Tiew which was very nice and a little sweeter than usual but still good. I enjoy it here as it is more like home cooking. We had a plate of the steamed dumplings.
Came with a bunch of friends in the afternoon. Tried chicken laksa and it was really good! The portion was definitely worth the price I paid. Would come back for more. Also glad that they served cups of water upon ordering.
Great flavours and loved the soupy broth the noodles were bathing in. Lots and lots of flavour in each mouthful. The soup was exceptionally good I wanted to drink it all.
Noodles were good. I would have liked more toppings with the noodles. Portion size was decent.
Mama Rich has delicious food! The dish I had was vegetarian, though I can't remember the name. The tofu was cooked perfectly though. A meal is under $20, well worth the price as portions were big.
Service was friendly and fast. The place was not busy at lunch time. This is not a fancy decorated restaurant but the yummy flavors make up for it.
If you're in the Greenlane area, visit Mama Rich.
Nice authentic Malaysian flavours, fast and friendly staff. Would recommend to book a table as they are always busy especially during peak-hours at lunch or dinner. Tried their Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken Laksa and Marmite Pork Spare Ribs. They are all delicious and very tasty.
The food here is reasonably priced for what you get. I paid $11 and got a decent serving of hainan chicken with rice. The food is seasoned and comes with extra hot sauce.
Good for lunch. But is very busy. But the service is efficient with no frills. Food is tasty and quite authentic. And there are vegetarian options too. The worst thing about this place is the parking. But if you can find a spot well worth the trouble.
Good casual dining place. Food tastes good and match Asian people's flavor.
Good casual dining place. Food tastes good and match Asian people's flavor.
Satay Chicken - awesome
Squid - awesome
Dumplings - average
Laksa - awesome
Rendang - awesome
Wonton soup - awesome
Clean, fast, friendly - very happy family after lunch there 👍
When the husband opens Paparich, the wife decided to follow suit and open MamaRich. Both are selling Malaysian Cuisine and As a local from Southeast Asia, I can say who's the winner...... Its MamaRich, afterall, Mom know's best 😁 #joking.
Came with my partner and we had Char Kway Teow, Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang and Sweet Fried Bun.
The taste is almost similar to the local taste in Malaysia. The Char Kway Teow is stir fried with diced taiwanese Sausages... a popular topping back home. The Nasi Lemak is fragrant with coconut milk smell. Although is lacking the Sambal (chilli paste)
The Sweet Fried Bun is unique, served with Srikaya(coconut jam) and Condensed Milk.
Overall, its a good place to try out authentic Malaysian cuisine.
It's quite tricky to find this place. Limited Parking available onsite.
This is a great little cheap and cheerful restaurant tucked away in Greenlane. The dishes are great value for money and full of great flavours, not mind blowing, but very decent for the prices! The chicken curry and Mee Goreng were my favourites. Don't go for the decor or service, but this is a nice little place for a quick bite or takeaways.
Easy parking available, the food comes quick and it is really yummy food, Reasonable portions for the price. I would recommend having a hot tea or water option, but overall great place, definitely recommend coming here to eat. I've been here quite a few times now.
Would also recommend getting new menus printed.
Mama Rich is definitely good value for money. All the dishes are well priced and they do $11 lunch specials so the place gets packed! I had the lemon chicken with a side of broccoli with home made sauce, both were delicious.
The restaurant is in a really convienent location in Greenlane with lots of parking. Our meals were served quickly, but like others have said you have to help yourself to water. I'll definitely be back to try their laksa.
Good selection of Malayan food. Like the kwee tiaw and fried noodle. Had lunch for few times there, on Sunday. One of the good place to go if you are in the need of Malaysian food or Asian food in general. Service is okay, reasonable time to serve. Recommended.
The sister brand of papa rich. Located directly opposite countdown in Greenlane. They have ample parking in the complex which is great because it's on the corner of a busy intersection. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are good. Lunchtimes are extremely busy due to the $11 specials.
Mama Rich will be our go-to for quick meals. It's nearby, parking is easy, clean and staff are very helpful and friendly. I think it's more like a self-serve restaurant... we didn't get water? Not sure. But!! If you're around Greenlane, it's definitely a restaurant worth stopping by at. We really enjoyed the Curry Laksa and Char Kew Teow it's a 5/5 for us. Can't wait to try other meals on the menu.
Lunch specials are amazing, friendly staff also. Seafood laksa and Hainan Chicken are my two personal favourites. I have also tried their curry chicken on rice which is stunning. Perfect for place during lunch hour.
I went there for dinner and had a good time. Food there are delicious and waiters are friendly. It might be a bit crowed during the busy hours- just too popular. It's a nice place for casual dinners.
It's really good! Their takeaway is nice too!
I usually order the hainan chicken main, laksa or fish collar noodles...
Convenient, but too bad they don't serve coffee anymore...
Service: 4/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 4/5
Environment: 3/5
Price $15-$20pp
The best malasian food. Everything is nice, i have tp try their special tea next time before the cafe hour close. Also they have outside sitting area, I can bring my dog.

I'm working at our company Greenlane branch for the week. My branch is in Manukau. Getting out of the car on our first day, the smell that plays around my nose has me thinking wherever that place is, the food has to be good . I ask our Greenlane branch who, what where. They tell me it's the Cafe adjoining the building we work in. It's Malaysian and popular because the food is that good. My second day at Greenlane branch, I order Lunch Special "Hainan Chicken Rice" to take home. I pick it up on my last break. A half hour lunch break does not allow time to order and wait in this busy, busy place. Everything bit of food in the container had me shaking my head while eating this tasty, tasty food. As it should be, the chicken is that moist, I savour every mouthful. The flavoured rice, the bean sprouts under the chicken soaked in the juices from the chicken, the container of spicy sauce, and the cucumber doing it's job. What a absolute delicious experience I had. I intend to take another "Hainan Chicken Rice" back with me south before we leave end of week. My friends and I catch up by eating at different venues. Mama Rich Cafe will be one of them..
So we've heard that this place does very good fish collar noodles.. thus the decision to dine here.
True that. The recommendations didn't fail us. And now, we're passing on the word.
Soup, noodles and fish were cooked very much to our likings. Mmm..
Very nice Malaysian food, especially the Laksas and Mee Goreng.
The portions are enough to keep you full, and the prices are cheap, about $14 each.
Food is very tasty and definitely recommend coming here.
Yummy, rich, fulfilling meals here! Nice location and convenient option for takeaway! Highly reccomend. The chef is amazing! The food is so authentic. You can tell that they do not cut corners.
Very nice food, and serves quite fast. The portions are a little small for dinner but for lunch and snacks are good sizes. They have self-serve cold or chilled water but it would be nice to also have the option of hot or warm water.
Ordered dirty rice and Mama Tah for drink. Really like the crispy chicken on the top and this Malaysian milk tea is also good. Will come back again.
Been there twice and ordered takeaway several times.
Easy to park, quick service speed, good quality of food.
They may need to improve their phone skill as they recorded wrong items with my phone order.
this is my go to place for my lazy-to-cook day. The major wow factor is the food. the texture and the tinge of spice is very consistent. i usually go for their laksa for take-away and the presentation is always a plus point for them, keep it up!
Always a satisfying meal at mama rich😆👍 parking is a breeze! I love the char kway teow and my partner loves the laksa. Definitely our pick for a hearty authentic Malaysian meal‼️ would have given them a 5 if they served teh tarik~~~~hahahahahaha!
One of the best Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. I have been to most of popular Malaysian restaurants in Auckland and for me, mamarich is the best. Usually I get vegetable laksa with vermicelli I'm not a vegetarian but I found that this is very nice :) staff are helpful and kind. I can't remember the name of dish but the stir fried rice noodle is also nice.
Came here for a casual family dinner and everything we had was delicious. Stand-outs were the Laksa which came in a huge bowl and the Hainan Chicken Rice. I ordered the Lemon Chicken which was very crispy. Would recommend this place!
Been wanting to try this place for a while. Went on a Friday night, it was pretty busy, especially lots of people ordering takeaways. We had the Char Kueh Tiaw and beef rendang with roti canai. Both were really delicious! I wanted the chicken curry but they'd actually run out. The only thing i can say is that the service was lacking. All the staff looked very busy, stressed and flustered. It is also my pet hate when cafes use plastic cups for water as they're bad for the environment. Despite the poor service I'd definitely be back for the food. Each dish was $14 and a good size.
Probably one of the best Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. Although the foods are generally a little more expensive than other places, and the service can be a little slow when they are busy... but their food are super tasty!
I've been here several times now, and love their noodle dishes! Fish collarbone noodle soup, their curry laksa, prawn mee, char kwe tiao, wat tan hor and today i tried their kon loh mee! It was so good!
Their kon loh mee comes with bbq pork, deep fried wontons and some boiled bok choi. The noodles were just the right chewiness, and well seasoned. The wontons were crispy and tasty!
I haven't tried their nasi lemak yet. But their hainan chicken rice is also to die for!
Dined here with my niece and nephew. Shared fried prawn dumplings and steamed pork dumplings. The fried prawn dumplings came out hot and fresh and the steamed pork dumplings were amazing with ginger and lemon grass. We ordered Mee Goreing, fried rice with egg and sweet and sour pork for mains. The Mee Goring was the stand out dish, while the fried rice and sweet and sour pork were average. Major issue with this place is they don't take credit cards.
I have been to many Malaysian restaurants.
This one is quite good and not that super pricey compare to others.
taste wise - good and on top of that it has coffees too
Here are my ratings:
Food - taste - 8.5/10
service - it is self service - 8/10
food - potion - 8/10
drinks - i tried their coffee - 7/10
It also has lunch special, tried few food there.
lunch time special - hainanese chicken rice - not too bad 7/10
kung pao chicken - quite nice 7/10
I absolutely adore Malaysian food and am always on the look out for new places to try. After coming across some positive reviews I decided to take my family here for my birthday.
Food
Our first entree was the Lobak Roll which is a meat dish with a great mix of salty and sweet flavors. It isn't spicy at all but it comes with a chili based dip on the side. The Curry Puffs were average. The consistency was a bit thick and starchy and I found it to be a bit lacking in filling.
The Chicken Laksa was very mild. This was already evident in the color which was mostly milky light brown and didn't have much of the red-orange oily color one expects to see with Laksa. It was of course served with chicken (shredded), bean sprouts and fried shallots. No hard boiled egg but no big deal. It tasted fine for what it was I suppose.
I'll be splitting the Hainanese Chicken Rice dish into two categories - rice and chicken. The rice wasn't as salty as I would have liked but still had some flavor (which isn't necessarily a bad thing given everything else on the table). The chicken itself had good sauce and was cooked well. This won't be the best Hainan Chicken you'll have but it'll certainly be far from the worst.
Last but certainly not least we had the Dirty Fried Rice which was essentially fried rice with egg and onions topped with Katsu (breaded pork...or was it chicken) and its respective sauce. This was a really fun dish and satisfied the inner 6-year old in me.
Service
You order and pay at the counter before your meal so there isn't really much to comment on in the service department.
Ambiance
With regards to ambiance, people typically don't go to an Asian restaurant for ambiance so I'll try not to waste anyone's time. The restaurant was quite clean, well lit and the tables were well spaced out so that's a thumbs up in my book.
Overall: A pleasant experience with some good dishes but other very forgettable ones. I don't think I'll be returning any time soon since this restaurant is a bit out of the way for me but if you like Malaysian food and getting to Mama Rich isn't an issue then it may be worthwhile trying out.
Recommendations: Lomak Rolls, Dirty Fried Rice
Came by to try it out since I pass it by often. We came for lunch and it was quite busy. Surprisingly they came and took our orders even though there was a sign on the counter that said otherwise. The quite liked the char kwei tieu but found the the dirty rice was nicer. The rice had nice flavour and the chicken on top was crispy and nice. I like the satay but others though ti was a bit too sweet. The food was decent and the pricing was slightly higher than some places.
This is a great place for very tasty Malaysian food. Any of the curries with roti are very recommendable, especially the curry chicken. The staff are very friendly and the price is right. In terms of ambience, it is nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing worth noting that is not on an entirely positive note, is that I have tried to eat here three times in the late afternoon and despite the official opening hours, the cafe was temporarily closed for a break.
Good Malaysian food hidden in the intersection of Great south road and Greenlane west. It's hidden under a building but has some good space inside and out. The portions are quite big especially anything in a bowl! Good for a feed if you are wanting some Malaysian food. Prices for dishes are around $12-$16 for mains and $6-$10 for entrees.
Came here for an early dinner, the staff are friendly and the menu had a good variety to chose from. We ordered pandan chicken wings, nasi lemak with curry chicken and malaysia fried rice. The nasi lemak was very tasty and good portion size. The other two dishes were average. Will be keen to go back and try other dishes on the menu.
Having had a few recommendations from friends to try out this place, I decided to have a late lunch stop here. I'm so glad I did! I ordered the Kon Low Mee, fried bun, Char Kway Teow, Beef noodle soup and Hainanese chicken rice. The Char Kway Teow was excellently done. If comparing to PappaRich, this one is definitely tastier.
There are dishes here that aren't available in PappaRich so I decided to give those a try instead. The Hainanese chicken rice was pretty good but better ones can be found elsewhere. Eg: PappaRich. I thoroughly enjoyed the Fried Bun and the Mama Teh. Indoor and outdoor seatings available and there is ample free parking just outside. It's very conveniently located as you get off the Greenlane motorway and directly opposite the McDonalds. The interior has a very nice, simple and comfortable setting.
Overall, I quite liked this place and the difference in dishes available. I will certainly be back again to try the other dishes. Definitely recommended.
What more could you want. It's exactly like Selera with parking and lots of tables so you don't have to wait. If you like selera (its Newmarket sister restaurant) then you'll love this. Same delicious menu items for reasonable prices. Without the hassle of getting a table and a park. There are lots of parking right outside in the evening and lots of space inside. Been here twice. Tried the beef rendang, chicken Laksa, marmit chicken, sweet and sour chicken. All delicious. My kids love this place.
This is the sister restaurant to the infamous Selera in Newmarket with the exact same menu so if having to find and pay for parking isn't your cup of tea, Mama Rich is a great alternative as there is a parking lot right outside. I love Selera so naturally Mama Rich was just as appealing for my taste buds and some dishes are cheaper too. I ordered the Sweet and Sour fish fillet which was spot on, it wasn't overloaded with oil like your usual Chinese sweet and sour dishes. The Malaysian tofu was rather standard in my opinion but then I've yet to be impressed by that dish anywhere. You'll find quality here- the meat has hardly any fat and the dishes come out fast and smoky hot. I believe that there's an $11.50 lunch special between the hours of 12-2pm or something but we just missed the mark when we came.
Uncle showed us this place and we've frequented ever since. For the price point (around $14 a main) they do the best Laksa and Curry around. Our personal favourites are the Chicken Curry with Roti, Seafood Laksa, Kon Low Mee, Prawn Noodles and the Salt and Pepper Squid. Not too crowded like it's sister restaurant Selera and much nicer staff, always greet us and good no fuss service. Worth a visit or three.
Visited yesterday for lunch with a couple of mates, always keen to try Malay inspired eating establishments, I enjoyed the curry chicken with rice dish (it wasn't on the bone which surprised me however the chicken had good flavour), one friend had a large serve of chicken laksa (which he struggled to finish) and the other polished off a beef rendang with no complaints..the roti we had was light and fluffy and perfect to soak up the remainder of my curry. Worth a visit and we just beat the lunch time crowd by arriving at 12, it quickly packed out.
Went here for a quick cheap dinner and was pleasantly surprised. While the decor and location is nothing exciting, the food is great...Beef rendang was very well made. Will definitely be heading back here
As Malaysians we like the food here. My husband likes the rendang they serve with the nasi lemak. I've just enjoyed the Hainan Chicken Rice. It would be great if they included a small bowl of soup with the chicken rice just like they do in Malaysia.
Food is good but more Chinese than Malaysian. Service can be slow at times but usually they are quite fast.
Loved the Asam Laksa!
Cafeteria type style.
Roti Canai could use a better curry.
Pretty stock standard here at Mama Rich. The dishes are pretty good, good portion, a bit expensive for what it is compared to other Malaysian places around Auckland.
I've mostly had takeaways from this place, but have dined in a few times. The service is efficient and the food comes out pretty quick. The seating and ambiance is a little uninspired.
Food is delicious, but don't offer the most well known Malaysian dish Assam laksa. Service is good and price is reasonable, its nothing fancy but definitely yum!
Service is standard - food does arrive quickly.
Had a delicious chicken curry with roti - part of the lunch special so $16.50 all up. Chicken tender, soup yummy - just the right amount of heat. Will be back
Been here a couple of times and always enjoyed there food. There Rendang is very good , Great Rotis and the Hainanese is very good as well.
Ive been to most of the Malaysian places around Auckland , and this is as good if not better than most.
Thay have good lunch specials as well.
The sister of Selera in Newmarket - Mama Rich offers a fantastic choice of absolutely delicious food.
I cannot fault this place at all. Like Selera, the food offered is spectacular, and they have a bit more to choose from too.
Yum!
Food: 8.5/10
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value: 4/5
Overall: 20/25
Have been meaning to check this place out for awhile. Right opposite the Greenlane McDonald's its in a handy location. There is ample parking right outside the restaurant so no need to worry about finding a park.
There is plenty of seating inside, with the option to be seated outside. Good place for a casual group outing. We ordered the Vegetable Laksa and the Crispy tofu. The Laksa was delightful and was huge - great value for money at $14. The Crispy tofu lived up to its name but was slightly underwhelming due to the portion size. However both dishes was enough for my partner and I.
The service was good and our meals arrived in a timely manner considering how busy they were. When paying the bill the staff were really friendly and genuine. Would happily return in the near future!
Whats with the word mama in the name of cafes sprouting up around town?
This is a malaysian cuisine diner with about 7 tables inside and 3 outside under a canopy. The location was Zinc cafe whom were taiwanese inspired. I scanned the menu looking for my fav Zinc dishes like taiwanese sweetcorn pancakes and their noodles but was optimistic.
Spotted the spring rolls these were the larger variety not super large like the fish n chippie variety but still not the tiny Thai ones. Ok filling and cooked and drained well giving a good taste 4/5
I ordered hainanese chicken mainly as id hadnt had this for awhile. Not exactly a malaysian dish but a popular choice as it can be shared and the rice full of all that chicken fat and juices is so good, yet so bad!! Hehe
The serving was ok in size a thigh piece is usually used for hainanese chicken rice mine excluded the drumstick. 4/5;
No one was being too adventurous and slo ordered was the won tons. This came in soup and turned out these were prawn meat only. Ie not pork in the filling. Not exactly large otger than the oversized bowl but again a dish that can be shared. A little heavy in salt or MSG not sure but suspect the latter. 3/5
A nice plate of asian veges needed some greens. These were a little overcooked and weren't crunchy or firm. some like this vege that way but i like it more euro style. 3/5
Really seriously! ! The third dish we ordered was a plain old Sweet n sour pork. So none of us actually ordered malaysian! It was pretty good the pork was lean and tender. Not a dish I get to eat often. Loved the good sized pineapple and the more sour than sweet sauce. 4/5
there is no free tea proper machine espresso coffee can be bought. The mochacino was good pretty strong on the coffee the way I lke it.
Baby chair was pretty average not too chikd friendly.
I would recommend the chicken curry on roti and char kway teow. Great service and food was piping hot when it was served.
Marmite spar ribs were ok, lacked sweetness.
I went there to have lunch and the food was delicious. I ordered the chow kuey teow which was the best one I have had in Auckland! The price was very good for $11.50. The Laksa which my mother ordered was incredible not only in flavour but also in portion size. One of the best laksa's she had ever tasted. The flavours were perfectly balanced. The service was great and the waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back :)
I ordered the Hainan chicken on rice - a classic Malay dish - for only $11.50 as part of their lunch special (11am-2pm). I would have liked a bit more chicken since there was so much rice bit otherwise the flavours were great. You could really taste the ginger which is an integral part of this dish. The chicken was served on a bed of lightly stir fried bean sprouts which balanced out the whole meal well. Friendly and attentive service.
Been to Mama Rich a couple of times. My first experience was better than the first however it is only minor. We tried the chicken curry with Rotis. The Roti was fantastic, however the chicken curry was a little salty compared to the first visit. Also tried the Kan Low Mee, which I felt lacked a little flavor compared to the first visit but still not bad at all. The lobak however is highly recommended. Will certainly visit again as I feel it must be a one off in that day.
Another malaysian place. Top marks for food. Chicken laksa, was delicious. Mama teh the best tea!! Highly recommend it. Great staff. Hope they start traditional desserts too
Went here with some work
friends just to see how this place was. It was extremely busy, the restaurant
itself was great, and customer service provided us with the special lunch menu.
Everything looked good! The dishes are large and good value for $$$. Really
good authentic Malaysian food! Definitely worth a try when you are around in
this area! We will surely be going back.
Good Malaysian place with great lunch menus to choose from. Laksa was tasty. Only thing bothered me was they had hard time calculating check.
We got a recommendation for this place from a friend living nearby, who said the dumplings were great. On arrival, we decided to try the laksa and kon low mee (BBQ pork noodles). The prices were good, and the portions very generous. I enjoyed my dish , the Kon low mee had a very tasty sauce, and the BBQ pork was done well and was what you would find at a local Singapore food stall. the only thing I would say is there didnt seem to be enough meat in proportion to the noodles. My partners Laksa was also very good and he said it hit the spot. It was more of a 'curry' style laksa, and had lots of flavour. the venue had a nice atmosphere to it, not to loud but not too quiet either. I would definitely go again.
Chin And Prony Powichitkul
+4
Happy to have found another quality Malaysian joint. We were recommended by a friend and decided to go in for Mother's day and have since been back twice.
Amazing Laksa here, my most favorite in Auckland so far. I love the idea of this place. Coffee and cakes but with a Malaysian twist. They've mastered the food menu but do need a little more work on the coffee machine. Portions and pricing is so worth and affordable. Staff are keen and eager to serve and always polite. The wait can sometimes be long though but always forgiven once I dig into my delicious laksa!
A fried introduces us to Mama Rich. It was co-owned by a Malaysian owner.
They had special lunch menu cost NZD11.50 per main dish ordered from the special lunch menu. I ordered seafood curry laksa (what we called curry mee in Malaysia).
It tasted good. They had Tao Pok (deep fried bean curds), fish balls, crab balls, squids and 2 medium size prawns and or course yellow noodle and bean sprouts in it. The curry tasted just perfect, not too salty and not too hot. It was not too thick and yummy to drink unfortunately it was not good for health.
They had decaf cappuccino. I ordered one and being charged NZD5.50 but it showed NZD5.30 on the beverage display menu hang on the wall. I did not argue more but to pay them NZD5.50. I did not impress though.
Very good meals if you are lazy to cook and want something inexpensive and quick - but yum!
Have been here for dinner about 2 weeks ago. It was a cold and windy night. Along with indoor seating, they also have an outdoor area with heaters.
We ordered the mama rich tofu for the entre. I cannot leave a Malaysian restaurant without ordering this tofu!
I had the Hainan chicken rice. It was quite good, but would have been better if the rice was the one baked in chicken juice. I can't remember what my boyfriend ordered, but I think it was a curry.
Would return again.
I never thought I would eat on another Malaysian resto aside from Selera. Selera has been our benchmark for Malaysian food. I must say with Mama Rich just a block away we don't need to go to Selera. The Beef Rendang is really good as well as their Mee Goreng. Seafood Laksa is a bit on the too hot side but still good. With their price, the serving is generous and good enough for two people.
This is my new favourite Malaysian place.
There is one dish that you often rate similar restaurants by and for me I use laksa for Malaysian.
The laksa was full of flavour, spicy, large, it had all the typical components and the chicken was shredded (I like that because I don't like to fidget with bones). The laksa is very comparable to Salera and even the same price.
I will be returning to try other dishes on the menu and see how I feel.
My expectations are very high for restaurants.Mama Rich is an overall good restaurant, providing Good food which matches to my standards. (Highly recommend Beef Rendang- suits my taste but may be spicy to others) It is spacious, and the service is great with waiters standing by. *Please note that you must pay first after ordering.Although this restaurant is located under an office building I believe that they can do better with customers in mind. The place is VERY cold at night. They would even open doors (which is a bad idea for freezing customers) as well as turning on fans. It is extremely cold especially at winters night which I do not recommend going at that time.I suggest going around lunch to afternoon. Overall, other than the extremely cold dining area at a winters night, the food is superb that suits my high standards. Flavours complement each other in most dishes. Overall, service is great, the environment is that of Malaysia and the food is just right. I suggest having the Beef Rendang with a Mama Teh (a Malaysian style milk tea which is very smooth and sweet)

We ate lunch at Mama Rich on Sunday. My wife and in laws ate there a couple of months ago but the restaurant has since closed and re-opened so that they could modify the kitchen.
I am a big fan of Selera in Khyber Pass and Mama Rich is up to this standard, with the added bonus of excellent parking, which is a big plus when you have kids. The restaurant was filled with Malaysians, always a good sign. The restaurant is clean and tidy, the service polite (you order at the counter before sitting)
We ate the chicken and dirty rice which was very tasty. The chicken satay sticks were plump and juicy but the star of the show was the seafood laksa. Hot spicy fragrant coconut based soup, the prawns and squid were lovely, as were the usual assortment of fish balls and fish cake. The dish is massive, it will easily feed two light eaters or present a challenge to the bigger eaters in your group. I will need more time to sample the other items on the menu but it seems that Mama Rich is now on my food radar. If you like Malaysian food this is well worth a go
Great laksa chicken! My friends had the mee goreng and it is really nice. Will be coming back to try their salt and pepper fish and sambal chilli chicken as recommended by the waiter.
We've been here a few times now, and the menu has gone through a bit of change.
The food is decent and the service always seems efficient. At the moment, parking is easy because the office block is empty. We've tried a few things on the menu and I've particularly enjoyed the sambal chicken lately. Their kon low mee and char kuay teow is also pretty good.
The place can get pretty busy at lunchtime, so you might have to wait for a table. There are a limited number of high chairs/booster seats if you have kids and get in first.
We went there on a weekday night after 7 and it was still quite busy there. We didn’t got to sit inside though the outdoor was a bit chilly during a raining day. The waitress seemed rushy without smiles on her face, so I wasn’t feeling comfortable to ask for chilly sauce (the indoor tables have the sauce on the table but the outdoor don’t).
We had chicken laksa and chicken on rice, the taste is pretty good, but unfortunately the noodle bowl edge got so many little cracks which made the whole dining experience faded.
Great Malaysian food that serves yummy Char Kway teow and mince pork noodle! It taste very authentic and the serving size is generous!
Very authentic Malaysian cuisine. Been there for lunches and dinner. Laksa are delicious with a variety of toppings. And portions of food are sizable. Need to go there more times to try other dishes.
Delicious food and good portion size, I was especially impressed with the larksa...i ordered the combo seafood and chicken but didn't really need the chicken. Soup was tasty without being too Spicy, just right for me. Can get quite busy, we arrived just before 12pm to secure a table.
Highly recommend the homemade deep fried egg tofu, very crispy and super soft egg tofu inside. Topped with yummy deep fried garlic. Laksa is also good, soup base is thick and filling.
Finally I am here!
To a Malaysian food lover like me, this one I have been waiting for a long time since it was still called "Mama Rich".
It's a nice and neat family style restaurant, with selections of Malaysian Chinese signature dishes.
This was my pre-birthday lunch with a super sweet friend of mine.
He ordered everything we ate because he's a regular guest here.
I am not saying they are the best in town but they can be surely ranked in top 5.
The food was just yummy and beautiful, love it!
Been to many Malaysian restaurants recently and they all seem to have gone down in quality. So decided to come to this refurbished restaurant. Ordered the nasi lemak beef rendang and the fish collar noodle soup. The rendang was quite yummy, not too dry, tender and good quantity. The coconut rice was slightly above the optimal wetness but still yum. Fish collar soup was really good, it tasted homely and makes you happy inside. The fish amount is not as much as Papparich but taste is better. Overall, I think this place improved a lot.
Would rather come here than Papparich, Sri pinang, Treasure kitchen and Sim's kitchen.
Here with colleagues on the evening of Monday 17th July.
Food was particularly enjoyable with good flavors.
Not as spicy(hot) as I was expecting, I wouldn't have minded if it had more kick to it. Otherwise very good.
Young lady serving us was as polite and as helpful as she could be.
A little bit of a shame they don't sell beer and wine.

My visit was 3 weeks ago. I was craving for Asian foods after I visited One Tree Hill then I saw it along the way. I really love the food and the teh tarik. The service is superb! Going back here when I visit Auckland again.
We had a laksa soup and it was delicious.
Excellent service, it was very good experience overal. We will come again.
