Best sushi place in town. Really cool family.
Best sushi I've tried in Auckland. Also, the most friendliest staff ever :D
Best sushi place in NZ! Friendly staff, my children and i love going here :)
If you're looking for your new local sushi spot, look no further than Yokoso!!! It's an amazing family-owned restaurant with incredible food at an affordable price. All of the sushi is so unbelievably fresh, particularly the salmon, it's my favorite thing on the menu!!! Although, there are so many different options to choose from and there's something for everyone here. My partner is vegan and they can even accommodate for him with a vegan sushi options as well as a vegan bento box! Which is delicious, you get so much food for such a reasonable price. They honestly never disappoint. In my opinion, Yokoso has the best sushi in Auckland. If I could rate Yokoso more than 5 stars...I would!!!
Have tried a few things from their menu and have greatly enjoyed everything so far. Their Salmon Avocado Sushi, Chicken Teriyaki Sushi and plain Avocado Sushi is never a let down and they are big sushi pieces too. You can order fresh made sushi pieces (a minimum of 5), or choose a selection from their cabinet. I like to order my own, and will always try a sushi that catches my eye in their cabinet. Have tried a variety of donburi, including the tofu, beef, chicken teriyaki donburi. The flavours are never disappointing and the portions always fill me up. The Karaage donburi (chicken and prawn) is always crispy (the chicken is moist). The Katsu chicken donburi is very flavoursome and saucy, so definitely would recommend for a meal with a balance of crispiness and sauciness. The edamame is nicely seasoned along with the Miso soup that my mum goes for every time we’ve been in. The staff is very friendly too, it’s a nice little restaurant hidden away on dominion road 😋😃
Me and my bestie popped in here this afternoon for a quick sushi date after school and were both quite happy with our sushi we got. She got the teriyaki chicken roll and was happy and full off her 6. I got 5 pieces of the deluxe salmon and cream cheese roll, for my taste there was a little too much of the cream cheese other than that i was left quite happy and full after 3. The deluxe sushi roll is basically a california roll though. We also grabbed a katsu chicken salad to share and were all good with it. I guess it wasn’t the best i’ve had but not the worst. The pricing here is very reasonable and they have plenty of seating here. The service here was also very sweet.
one of my fav lunch place for more healthy lunch option within walking distance of work. they have attractive sushis on display. and can also order bento set too. not a big restaurant but very clean, tidy and professional. staffs are friendly. As a salmon lover, i like their salmon bento and fresh salmon don. Today, got some sushis with a friend.
Such yummy sushi!! Hidden little place I stumbled across and the ladies there were so friendly! It was a little pricey but the quality was definitely evident!
Cutest little Japanese restaurant, the atmosphere was authentic and calming. Really lovely lady who served us and the older man ended up singing a song for the couple eating in store and played his little guitar/uke it was adorable!! Honestly can’t get better service than that.
The food was a solid 10/10 we had salmon and avo sushi roll, tempura prawn sushi roll, salmon nigiri and tempura prawn nigiri along with edamame and it was all perfect and so yummy!! We came in about an hour before closing, they made our sushi fresh and not to mention- the size of the rolls are quite large, I paid $26 in total (edamame being $6 of that) so for all the sushi being $20 was v worth it.
This place is amazing and I’ll always go back when I’m in the area❤️
Came in tonight with the family for dinner. The tofu was flavourful and salad sauce was delicious. Karaage was deep fried perfectly. A variety of sushi was served inside the bento. Service was good. Would come again.
Came here to grab a quick lunch and was greeted nicely. Small little restaurant but cute and charming. Picked out a few pieces of sushi to go and they all looked mouth watering! Salmon was fresh- cut nicely, the nigiri and rolls looked well presented, and so delicious! You can tell it’s good quality sushi made with quality ingredients. Will return again very soon 🍣
I would give it a 4.8/5 so rounding it up to 5/5!
❤️: large variety of sushi and all sushi looked sooooo pretty. I especially like the black rice roll and the teriyaki beef (?) roll. Thought the beef would be quite dry and tough (from the appearance) but I was wrong. The beef was really well flavoured and not tough at all. Salmon was fresh. The lady who seems to be the owner was so nice and she even gave me free miso soup because I told her it’s my first time coming to this sushi place.
😑: sushi was slightly at the pricey end. The roll sushi is like $1.3 or $1.7 but the other fancy-looking ones didn’t have prices. I got 5 pieces and it was $9 (probably because of the nigiri I got (i think it’s $3 :/)
I took 0.2 point down because of the price but the quality was good! The free miso soup literally made my day!
Yokoso is small and cute, like eating in the owners dining room, great food with authentic home made freshness. The bento box is great dinner with lots of yummy varity.
Our go-to for Japanese in Mt. Eden. The karaage don - which comes in chicken or prawn is my fav.
Also recommended the yakisoba.
Not much for ambience, but a good feed. Very reasonable prices too. $30 for two.
My partner and I love eating at Yokoso. In a way, it has become a home-away-from-home of sorts in the sense we are always welcomed there with love, enthusiasm and delicious food. I tend to order the salmon bento box which is always delicious and never twice the same. I also like the miso ramen (ramen noodles topped with pork, egg, seaweed and vegetables). I must admit I usually stick to one of those two options but I have occasionally tried other menu items or sushi assortments and it's all been good... Highly recommended! The owners are lovely and very hard-working people. If you're lucky, you may even hear the chef playing his miniature guitar :) The recorded music selection here tends to be very enjoyable, i find, as opposed to other dining experiences i've had around Auckland recently.
Sushi is really yum and fresh, the amount of filling in each sushi is generous. There are some unique-looking ones and everything I've tried are delicious. Price tag not too expensive. Miso was a bit sweet/lacked depth of flavour but all in all great sushi place to go to, was quite popular too, and service is amazing. Would go back again.
This used to be a regular lunch spot for me, and I have eaten their karaage chicken several dozen times, as well as much of the sushi menu. This is one restaurant that I rate for its atmosphere almost as much as the food. There is a strange, zen-like calm about the place. I like the proprietor. Although busy he never seems to be in a hurry, and will finish what he is doing before calmly turning to serve you. One of my finds in Mt Eden. Comforting, home-like setting - lots of long-term returning customers. Good, in a quiet Japanese way.
Affordable, but I only enjoyed around half of the food in the vegetarian bento box. Next time will definitely try the tofu donburi. Pretty nice service.
Sushi was very yummy compare to other sushi takeaways. Portion was good for hot food. Woody ambience with relaxing music. Food served promptly sushi was self service. Will definately come more often.
Despite the owners being Koreans, Yokoso has authentic and innovative Japanese food of all sorts of styles. The service is top notch, I always feel comfortable picking my own sushi or just enjoying a nice cooked meal.
Their karaage chicken don is my go-to option, their yakisoba is pretty fantastic too.
Yokoso is so cute. Always reminds me of a legit Japanese resturant with its interior. The customer service is great. The man in there is so sweet. I always gets the Yokosoba. They have an awesome range of sushi too. Great place for a causal lunch
Looking for good sushi look no further the tofu donburi is to die for sitting quietly on dominion road you don't realise how good it is to you try it I'll be back 🙏
Would highly recommend this place. Ordered the edamame beans, gyoza, yakisoba and chicken bento box to share between two and it all only cost $40! The chicken bento box was the best bento box have had as it had such a variety of things within it, would highly recommend to order this!
Went for lunch here with a friend and I really like the interior of this place. It's nice and basic.
The teriyaki bento box is just delicious. I truly enjoy my meal. The miso sound that we start with have just the right Flavour.
There is no wow factor visiting this place but if u looking for a nice place n to have a good bento box then this is definitely one stop that you have to go.
Despite being a small area in size it makes the most of it, everything is well presented and I love the sushi display at the window, lots of variety and everything looks so tempting. Service is very good and staff are friendly. Very decent pricing and yummy meals, cant go wrong with this place.
My kids love their sushi. A local so we often get takeaways for the kids. Sushi is nice, interesting varieties. They could improve on their attentiveness as they are sometimes overwhelmed by customers and their service slips
Yokoso is such an excellent Japanese restaurant! It is my favourite.
The food is simply delicious. Everything is fresh, flavoursome and beautifully presented. My ultimate favourite meal is the teriyaki salmon donburi. But the bento boxes are all amazing too with lots of different dishes to try. The sushi is wonderful as well.
The owners of the restaurant are very lovely people, so genuinely welcoming, it is always an absolute pleasure to see them.
I go often with a variety of people to Yokoso and we always enjoy it.
I have eaten a lot of Sushi. Would have to say that Yokoso is the best so far. I get takeaway sushi twice a week from here and would highly recommend the spicy raw salmon sushi. Great selection of vegetarian vegan options.
First caught my attention from the street with the yummy looking sushi as your walking past. Now I come here often, love the food here! Lovely staff, great atmosphere.
I've tried a number of dishes from the menu and enjoyed them all. Definitely recommend this awesome place
Very friendly, very delicious, very reasonably priced, can't fault Yokoso! I've been in several times for sushi over lunch and have enjoyed every time :)
Quality authentic Japanese food! Loads of guys that work around Dominion Road are able to sing it's praises as it's a frequent lunch spot for us. Sushi's are very fresh, and are presented immaculately. Flavours are very distinct, and the karaage always tastes crunchy, fresh and flavoursome. The owner operators are very nice people too (I promised I'm not being bribed by a free piece of sushi here and there...).
We looked for a place with donburi and good ratings on Zomato... and found Yokoso!
We came for a meal around 3-4pm and surprisingly the little restaurant was empty! While we were eating, there were a couple of people who bought takeaway sushi though but only one of them dined in.
I got the spicy pork donburi and my boyfriend got the karaage chicken donburi. The presentation of my meal was amazing. So many colours on one plate! My pork was actually pork belly (with the layers of fat) and even though I don't like pork belly as much, the fat in this pork belly dish wasn't as noticeable. I think this was because it came in spicy sauce and it tasted so good! The only criticism I have is that my meal was slightly on the oily side. When I finished my rice you could see quite a bit of oil left on my plate.
The karaage chicken came drizzled with japanese mayo (which my boyfriend loved, but I wasn't a fan of). I had a stick(?) of karaage chicken and it was really crunchy and good! I felt like I couldn't taste as much chicken because most of it seemed like batter to me. My boyfriend loved his meal though.
Unlike most other restaurants, at Yokoso you had to pay extra for green tea and drinks. Not too sure about water but we weren't offered any when we sat down or during the entire meal at all.
Apart from this the staff was nice and the food was pretty good. Will most likely be back in the near future!
My absolute favourite place for sushi, have yet to find anywhere that rivals this (including nearby award winning places). So delicious and fresh, lovely service, very affordable. If I don't go for a little while I crave it and I often drive well out of my way to eat here!
Food was delicious!! Were gonna go murder burger but walked past and changed plan, place had a lovely atmosphere nice music playing. Chef came out to serve me my food which was a nice touch, would definitely go back to try something else. Only thing is they didn't have a bathroom so I had to leave suddenly which was kinda stink coz I was enjoying the place
Delicious variety of sushi and priced well. They have a simple menu to choose from, its not expensive and the food is also made fresh. The owners are always so gracious and welcoming!
I really enjoyed the whole experience here! I went to sushi during my lunch hour and the service through a window style meant I had loads of time to eat within my half an hour off. I ordered a variety of sushi, about 8 pieces and paid $12.50 for it all which I thought was really reasonable.
There are seats available inside but they're limited due to the size of the shop. It's open in the evening as well which makes it great for lunch and dinner and there are warm options too like miso. I would definitely go back for a lunch time snack or even for dinner. The soy sauce was served in a cute little plastic bottle and you can have wasabi and ginger as well. I was automatically handed a pair of chopsticks too which is something I'm not used to outside of Auckland.
Overall I would recommend the place. It's probably the best sushi I've had in a long time.
Best sushi and friendly service! They remember us every time and we love coming here. All their staff are lovely and always very happy.
We always order takeaway and its always ready on time. Chicken is always really good and they are always happy to change parts of the order for us. Well priced also! Highly recommended
My favourite Japanese place and it is cheap enough that you can have it often. The staff are super friendly, the food is tasty and the potions generous. Healthy too... Normally visit once in two weeks.
My favourite sushi place! Have tried many flavours, all were delicious! Wish it was closer to home so I could go there more often. Great service, friendly people! Recommend this place for the sushi. Will have to return to try some of their other dishes.
I love the food here. Everything is so yummy. Sushi are large and fresh. I still remember the crispy ebi (shrimp). I've tried chicken donburi and it was very tasty. The staff are also friendly. I am confident to recommend this restaurant to my friends.
I love sushi and this place was beyond amazing. It is now my favourite place to eat sushi even though I live ages away from it... it's worth the trip! There is so much to choose from and everything is so fresh and delicious. Also very friendly which made for a great dining experience. Very authentic.

Great food with fast and friendly service. Love their sushi, large in size. Totally enjoyed the Beef Teriyaki, while my husband had a tasty and filling Chicken Bento (box). All at a very affordable price. Will certainly keep going back.

We were craving something fresh, lite and delicious and this place definitely hit the spot. Delicious sushi and soup. We had seaweed salad, several rolls and the miso ramen soup and enjoyed all of them. The broth had a great flavor.
Really good miso ramen. Fresh ingredients. My daughters had udon with deep fried prawns . My son had chicken yakitori. Decent sized meals at a reasonable price. Good value.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Absolutely beautiful beautiful food my beef noodle 🍜 soup was the BEST I've had in New Zealand !!! everyone at our table was floored by how amazing our dinner was
We highly recommend 👍pLus lovely staff friendly and kind
This is a great little local. Well priced and good food in a unique style and plenty of yummy fresh choices. Dine in or takeaway. Warm and friendly team. Give them a try.
The best sushi restaurant in town! I went there twice and I had bento boxes. The price was cheap and affordable for student like me. I love their miso soup, you can get the small one with $3 only!
Everyone was very friendly and the food was super yummy! It's such a cute place!
Love a donburi chicken katsu curry and highly recommend this one. The cutlet was crisp and freshly cooked.. and the curry was so good! I was initially disappointed to see no ginger for zing, but the sauce is so good it doesnt need it :)
Amazing fresh sushi! Excellently priced as well!
The staff are amazing and friendly. Truly would recommend to anyone in Auckland 👍
Beautiful, fresh, delicious sushi. Lovely atmosphere to eat in and no plastic with takeout. This is the best sushi and miso soup I have tasted in Auckland. Recommended!
Outstanding food, as a vegetarian it's difficult to find a wide range of options but the food here was amazing, I couldn't tell you the names of what I had to eat but it was all delicious, it was quiet and peaceful, clean and the staff were polite and helpful the decor felt traditional without hamming it up too much. I WILL be returning here again.
