This hidden cafe in Newmarket is massive! I love their industrial interior. The service is superb. The coffee is great! All the food that we ordered were all yummy. I highly recomomend their fried chicken and waffles. The chicken with a hint of chilli works really well with the maple syrup and the waffles. Thanks to their manager Simone and to their staff Dominique for their hospitality. Will come back soon!
Airy and plush spot tucked away behind Newmarket. They are really great at executing classic brunch things like their eggs Benedict and the French toast. Some of their more adventurous dishes are also quite nice, the chicken in the chicken and waffles were memorable, but the type of waffles are mismatched (perhaps they didn’t want the dish to feel too heavy), the salmon wild rice was nice but I couldn’t figure out what the intended cook on the salmon was meant to be. All together would recommend though, nice space to meet with friends.
Nice and cozy place for brunches. Good food quality and nice coffee ☕️
This cafe in newmarket has many tables to choose from and is not crowded with people. Great place to have brunch on the weekend or just having a cup of coffee.
The black rice porridge kind of satisfy my craving for thai mango sticky rice. I love it!! Would recommend for someone who want to have thai mango sticky rice but could not find one in Auckland, this plate may temporary satisfy those wants.
Had my meeting here over coffee and some brunch. The coffee was great and food was decent. It can get a little noisy but that's ok.
My husband and I run every weekend followed by a hearty meal. This weekend we went to L’affare. Not too keen with the eggs benedict but simply Love the chicken and waffles. And i adore the coffee (i was told named Gusto which they roast themselves). Need to buy this when I run out of beans.
Love the atmosphere and the service. Chicken waffle was amazing. Just perfect.
I come here every morning and it kick starts my day. Their coffee is amazing, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. i've never been one to be a regular at cafes, I like to hop around but i can't get enough of this place :) Love it
nice looking coffee, food taste fine👌 difficult to find a carpark on Friday, took me 20mins to park😲😲😲,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,
Spacious café with many tables to choose from. Great place to have lunch/coffee/weekend brunch, even would be kids friendly which is something hard to find in New Market.
The photo doesn’t do justice for the breakfast burrito but I really rate this one! The size is massive. The egg and potato in the burrito make it unique and delicious. The French toast was just your normal standard French toast, except the bread had a more thicker dense texture. Coffee was great!
Service for all levels (from front, coffee to kitchen) are exceptional.
Awesome place to visit for brunch with friends and family. The coffee is good and the food is consistently great. They have the perfect brunch menu with the mince on toast and fried chicken waffles being a particular favourite of mine. The menu also caters well for gluten free individuals, my partner finds plenty that cater for her on the menu.
I have been coming here for a while now as the go to brunch spot. The food and coffee has never disappointed me and I will continue to go back.
The atmosphere is very friendly and conversational with a very well lit space. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch and a catch up with friends or family.
Great place!
I ordered French toast which is a little bit over-cooked. And probably coz I am not a big fan ofsugar so I think the maple syrup is too sweet for me. However, the coffee is really good which pull up the overall rating. Postmodern decorated style, environment very nice.
Went to this little cafe with my husband for breakfast. I had the chicken waffles with a Mocha and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Food was very yummy and coffee was nicely roasted. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Will be going back to try other items 😊.
Very friendly staff. The place was very chill and relaxing. I had the black rice porridge and it was so good. Would come back again and try something else in the menu.
This cafe has amazing coffee and a good hot chocolate! Ordered the Avocado and a poached egg on toast. My friends ordered the Buckwheat crepe and the Breakfast Burrito. Everything was great about my dish, however the poached egg was a bit of a let down. I expected the yolk to be runny, however it was half boiled. The avocado though, had a nice zing with the lime. The latte art of the flat white was superb, and the baristas are superb too! If only I could give them a 4.5!
With a sturdy reputation for top quality coffee, L'affare Café doesn’t disappoint. Expectedly the coffee was delicious and creamy but the real treat was the food. Juxtapositions of fresh and rich flavours combined to excellently balanced fusions within all of the meals devoured. In addition to the flavours, the exquisite food presentation and beautiful art deco décor showcase the impressive attention to detail they have excelled at creating. We loved our time there, made special by the professional yet friendly staff, who even threw in the odd titbit of humour. It was easy to see why L'affare Café is just the right kind of place for not only a good catch-up with your bestie but a place to impress your corporate cliental.

Popped in this morning to admire their nice interior. Indeed, the place is unique, spacious and bright.
The lady served me a glass of water but the glass had a lip print on it.... I got a new one immediately though.
The food& coffee
My Cornbread French Toast was very nice. Especially the bacon was cooked to perfection. Portion was also very generous, I trully made some effort to finish it.
Coffee was strong enough but not amazing.
One of my favourite places for a relaxed coffee. Very good service and yummy brunch food items. Coffee is good and strong. Good friendly service :)
Came here for Sunday brunch and it was fabulous! They could easily seat our party of 10 and the service was really good, the staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is great we all had trouble deciding what to eat! The food was quick and delicious. The mince on toast is a must try! We will definitely be coming back.
Cafe has a nice modern feel, large space but acoustics well planned so that conversation in cafe is not deafening. We had muesli and French toast, both really great and coffee was very good. We will visit again when we visit Newmarket.

+4.5
Food: The all day menu is modern with plenty of different options. You can enjoy a healthy puffed quinoa muesli or a hearty truffle scramble which I ate with a side of avocado. If you’re here for lunch, choices like coffee rubbed cheeseburgers, chicken salads and beef short ribs will make decisions hard.
A little gem hidden behind the Main Street of Newmarket. Worth searching for. Parking was good on the day we visited. The building was quite unassuming from the outside - looking more like commercial premises rather than a cafe.
Open the door and the wonderful decor surprises. Tables are well spaced and the eating area is quite spacious compared to many cafes.
The menu is not large but offers an imaginative selection of breakfasts and meals. A modern twist on the classics.
I loved the Black Rice Porridge with Coconut Milk and Mangoes. Delicious!!
Will be definitely be back again.
Nice little spot tucked away in Newmarket. Came here for breakfast on a weekday morning - pretty cool interior and loads of space, newspapers were out and I was greeted by the friendly staff. It was a little chilly inside on this winter morning though! I had tea (great, served in a gorgeous tea pot) and a friend had coffee (delicious as always). It was the 3 egg omelette with wild mushrooms for me, really tasty and very filling. My friend had the poached egg and avocado on toast, perfect. Pretty great breakfast place!
We went here this morning- caught the bus in from Howick especially to try L'affare Melrose( we have been to the Wellington Cafe).
We were not disappointed and will be back.We had two flat whites each -as the coffee was so good.
The avocado and egg on toast with the delicious taste accompaniments and the scrambled eggs were fantastic.
We were made very welcome and really appreciated the table service rather than having to queue to place our orders
many thanks Linda and John Hogg
Hands down best coffee I've had !
For $5 you get unlimited refills of filter coffee
Tried the Ethiopia and Kenya ones and the aroma was divine
Clean, modern interior and staff were welcoming
Had their avocado toast and looked small but was actually very filling! Such generous amount of avocado when they're so expensive these days 😂 thank you!
Will definitely come back
I guess 1 thing was that their cabinet menu is very limited and it's tucked away in a corner so hard to find - but very worth it
Great cafe with excellent service and coffee! Hubby had the Bacon Buttie only $10 and I had the Blackened Chicken Salad - Delish! Well worth a visit. We'll def be back. Great to see some outdoor tables; maybe an idea to have umbrellas for hot sunny days and outdoor pot plants for ambience...
Hidden in a far corner on Melrose Street, L'affare is a beautifully constructed cafe with a stunning spacious interior and a buzzing pleasant atmosphere. Although being newly opened, there was a huge lunch crowd when I went on a weekday afternoon but we managed to grab an empty table for two.
The prices were of your standard typical cafe range and the menu offers options that differ from most cafes such as dishes like black rice porridge with coconut cream to beef short ribs. However after long consideration, we chose...
1) Eggs benedict with prosciutto (9/10)
Absolutely loved this dish. Two perfectly poached eggs served on a generous amount of spinach on toasted english muffins + delicious hollandaise + ( best of all) a whole heap of prosciutto! I highly reccomend this for all you eggs benedict lovers
2) Salmon and Fennel ( 7/10)
Although there was a generous amount of salmon ( around 6 massive slices), I felt like thats all you were paying for with this dish as its served with a bed of salad which was nothing too spectacular. The salmon itself was fresh and beautifully flavoured tho, but for the price I guess I expected a little more wow factor BUT it was still yum
Overall, a nice cafe to grab breakfast, brunch or a quick lunch in Newmarket. Service was attentive and food was good :)
Dish of the day: Eggs benedict with prosciutto
Beautiful place & in an area of New Market that, thanks to Little & Friday, is only getting better. The service is quick & efficient, coffee is good (they do whittaker's mocca's) and the menu is on trend. I had the salmon & fennel - a great option if you're after something a bit lighter. The salmon wasn't overly salty and a bit more on the raw side than I was expecting (not that I minded), there was a hint of something - maybe coconut oil? - that left an interesting after taste. The cornbread French toast caught my eye so I'll definitely be back.
Pretty cool interior design at this cafe (although structural engineers might notice that the steel collar tie connections are a bit ugly)
The coffee was spot on. Not often I say that!
But...the avocados in my smashed avo just weren't that ripe and therefore didn't do justice to an otherwise good dish (good flavours and a perfect poached egg).
I'd still come back though, just based on the coffee and the other menu choices.
Working in Newmarket, it is only natural to find any excuse to get out of the office and scope out the surrounding cafes. L'affare Melrose popped up on The Denizen so I had to try. Slightly out of the way location, but a great fit out. Service was fast and friendly and the menu was a treat. So many interesting options to choose from! After much um'ing and ah'ing, we ordered the Benedict with prosciutto, bacon butty sandwich, variations of the avocado poached egg and a few potato hash. Benedict was tasty - home made English muffin was delicious, no shortage on the prosciutto, however hollandaise was super buttery. Across the table our eggs were cooked to perfection and the potato hash was inhaled it was so yum. Bacon in the bacon butty was a bit too crispy (resulting in crumbs flying across the cafe). Coffee service was fast however was slightly burnt. Would definitely go back and try the lunch options - blackened chicken and beef short ribs sound amazing.
Excellent service here. The barista was friendly, providing professional advice on beans' selections. Lunch were yummy too. I loved my slow cook lamb. Our family had a lovely experience here.
It's delicious. I happened to be doing business nearby. I found this store. The clerk is very enthusiastic. The food is also delicious. The coffee is great. The environment is very distinctive.
I like the atmosphere. Even the heavy rain couldn’t stop the people coming.
Kimchi fried chicken burger was delicious, but the fried chicken and waffles was a bit heavy and dry. I will try mince on toast next time. Raspberry cheesecake was tasty. Overall it was a great time in L’affare.
The ambience is very organic. The customer service was great. The savoury and sweet chicken with waffles was really heavy but it was a bit to dry for my taste. The drinks selection was quite creative. Spacious seating with good soothing music helped us enjoy the rainy day
We ordered one eggs Benedict with salmon and one with bacon, a long black and a flat white. The dishes were very well presented. The poached eggs and bacon were perfect, though I found the cured salmon a little too salty and fishy as an alternative to smoked salmon, making the dish hard to truly enjoy.
That mild food disappointment aside, the staff were really wonderful and, as we found ourselves stranded by the Auckland flooding, they even offered us use of a couch upstairs and free coffees. Though we didn’t take advantage of this kindness, it really struck us as generous and hospitable—they do real credit to the venue and added some cheer to a miserable situation.
Low-key and elegant, it took me a while to see the shop sign. The decoration is stylish and the space is very high. The waiters are very enthusiastic. Coffee should be the specialty of this shop. I ordered papardelle, the handmade pasta was springy and the sauce was good. Recommend worth a visit.
As a group of ex colleagues we came to L'affare Newmarket cafe for our monthly breakfast together. At 7:15am it was easy to find a parking spot. When you enter the cafe rich smell of coffee welcomes you and lovely hostess helps you to find a seat. It looks like management pays attention to customer service a lot as all frontend staff is very nice, polite and helpful. I truly enjoyed hospitality here.
I ordered Avocado on toast and it was simply delicious, portion size was good enough. Coffee is invigorative and yummy
A usual spot for coffee and brekkie. One of the best little quaint coffee places in the bustling centres of newmarket. Quality food and drinks all round, paired with lovely service :).
Everything was perfect! Just wished I could come here more often! For food, the three of us had an egg benedict w/bacon and another one with smoke salmon (one of which the muffin was changed to hash brown, as a huge hash brown fan, it was slightly disappointing) and truffle egg with sourdough bread. The scrambled egg was creamy and smooth and the truffle was no overwhelming. For drinks, a cappuccino, flat white and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate came with a surprise - a Whittakers chocolate bar. We didn't notice there were other goodies near the cashier, if not I'd had ordered a pastry instead! The ambience and service were both really pleasant! :)
I had some time on Monday morning to stop by for breakfast. Turns out the kitchen is closed on Mondays. I ended up just getting a hot chocolate since I was there. I was surprised at how nice the hot chocolate was, probably helped with the stick of Whittakers chocolate that came with it. It wasn't the start I was expecting but did turn out nicer than anticipated.
The place was quite large and did have a nice dining area. The bathrooms were also quite clean and spacious. There was a "wait to be seated" sign by the door for those who were planning on just rocking up like I did.
