One of the best things of working out of Newmarket is that you're in no short of coffee spots. There's no excuse for bad coffee. Thankfully Billy delivers.
Popped over for a meeting and had to stop by. The long black was strong and hit the mark. Service was super friendly. Choc chip muffin was the cherry on the top. Perfect for a 2pm pick me up!
Struck initially by the very friendly service. The food was prepared really quickly and made for a a nice and simple brunch. Simple done well. It was quite busy and the space and tight so it may be worth going at a quieter time if you do not enjoy being in too close proximity to other humans
Favourite Cafe at the moment. We just keep coming back and back. Great coffee, food never disappoints.
This cafe is very close to the Hospital and Grafton Campus and is one of the nicer cafes to grab a bite to eat when studying. I came here this morning with a friend for breakfast and we had a great time. I had the chorizo omelette which was really lovely. Good portion and flavour. The staff were attentive and friendly. The hot chocolate was nice and sweet and hit the spot.

Sitting on the Domain side of Newmarket, is a cozy little cafe Billy. There's a reason that this little place is often packed. The baristas know exactly what they are doing, perfectly brewing up Supreme coffees every time. They also have a great range of brunch menus to go with your coffee, and the scenic view of the Domain is a finishing touch to your Billy experience.
I really enjoyed the omelette! It came with grilled tomatoes, veges and you can choose between chorizo and egg plant. I got the eggplant and it was very good. Portions were also appropriate but it would have been nice if it came with some sourdough! It was also a bit of a walk from the Newmarket town area but it was worth it :)
Ordered their Coconut French toast, I enjoyed how it was not overly sweet and coconut flavour was not powerfully strong either. Adding granola and rhubarbs made the french toast stand out from your usual. The dish had both a grilled banana AND strawberries! All the dishes on the menu are priced quite reasonably.
Coffee (long black) was great too, loved their cute mugs!
Service is friendly. Plenty of seats both inside and outside of the café (although you may have to share tables if its busy).
I was worried about Car parking but there were plenty of spaces nearby, I parked in George St. if you're lucky you may even score the couple of free spaces in front of the café.
My friend took me here and I totally fall in love with this lovely place. I had the Vegan Breakfast so flavourful and yummy but the crispy kale was a bit greasy. My friend had the Egg Benedict which was very delicious as well. Coffee here was perfect and thanks for letting us try the cold brew and I loved it!

By far, my favourite cafe in Auckland. Billy is always here to impress. Their cold brew and filter are some of the best in town and its hard to say no to their delectable Hashbrown Sandwich!
Friendly team. Be expected to wait for a table during the weekend
Food: Was delicious! I ordered the vegan breakfast, everything tasted fantastic. Loved the mix of bright veggies, unique bread and extra crispy hash brown.
Coffee was divine!
Service: The staff were so friendly and kind. The barista was so lovely to make a coffee with pretty art, as she noticed I was taking a picture, thank you so much for this fantastic service!
Personally i think the coffee was alright nothing special. However I must say my smashed peas with the poached egg was really delicious! highly recommended. It’s not as plain as you’d expect, it’s actually quite flavourful. I added some sriracha on it and it was even better hahaha.

Food: Went here specifically to try their burgers, as I'd heard so much good stuff about them - and they definitely didn't disappoint. I tried the double beef and cheese burger and it was absolutely delicious. Super juicy burgers cooked to perfection. And their waffle fries are sooo good too!
Service: This place can get so busy at lunch time. So it was a little chaotic. But the staff are really friendly, they were super attentive in the beginning and took our order quickly. We didn't have to wait too long for the food either which is always great. I generally like it when someone comes to check on us once the food has arrived too, but this didn't happen here. It wasn't a big deal, as everything was perfect. Just something small.
Ambiance: It's a great busy/popular spot for lunchtime, which I think is great - because it's a goos sign the food is good when it's always busy. It's on a busy road, but so close to the domain so you get a pretty view, and their patio/outside area is bright and perfect for sunny days. Love this spot and will 100% go back again soon.
It is easy to pass this cafe when you walk down Carlton Gore cause it lives under the Fuji Xerox building.
The place is quite small but they do have a few large tables inside as well as some smaller ones outside. The menu has a fair selection of items for both food and drink. I tried the double cheese mushrooms and an iced chocolate.
The iced chocolate was ok. Think it needed a bit more of a chocolate bite. The cheesy mushrooms were nice. I quite liked the jalapenos with the mushrooms so they were a bit different from other places. Most items are under $20. Friendly service and quite close to work so a really good lunch option.
Double cheeseburger was not the best I’ve ever tasted but still yummy and very cool presentation. Would like to come back and try something sweet! Friendly staff :-)
Polite staff great tasting food decent portions, I had avocado on toast good flavour combo would have loved more fennel bulb and dill, I'll be trying creamy mushroom with thick cut bacon next time as it looked amazing from where I was sitting.
We came here for brunch on a Monday morning. The staff were friendly, polite and patient with us. The food was extraordinary and delicious, not to mention aesthetically pleasing for Instagram photos. We ordered two burgers, a vegetarian omelette and the vegan breakfast. I loved the fried chicken burger as it wasn’t dry and the sauce was tasty.
Go here a lot for lunch. The chicken burger lunch special for $14 is a must. The chicken which is always a very generous portion, is always moist inside but crispy on the outside. And the sauce and coleslaw compliments the burger perfectly. Staff are always very nice to deal with. Gets very busy sometimes and hard to find a place to sit
Hands down the best vegan dish I’ve had. I got the Morning Sunshine and my friend got the Creamy Mushrooms. She also LOVED her mushrooms. The portion was actually rather filling to my surprise and the flavours are rich. Never had I thought vegetables would be that great! The place isn’t that big, but we were lucky to get seats when we arrived.
Coffee was good and the scrambled eggs were excellent! Soft, creamy and well presented. Will go back to try other Korean style items on the menu.
The mushrooms are delicious!! Also the vegan breakfast and avo on toast! A bit disappointed they had run out of fresh orange juice when I went but the food made up for it. They have little blankets on the tables outside which is a nice touch also and the staff are super friendly!
The food was delicious. The menu is quite creative too. There isnt alot of seating, so it is a smallish cafe. But i would come for the art of the food and the flavours. Staff was very friendly amd welcoming.
A small, bustling cafe opposite the Auckland Domain. Great spot for a quick/casual brunch.
Have been here on a few separate occasions and I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Service: 5/5
Prompt, efficient, genuinely friendly.
Great staff, which seem to enjoy their work.
Environment: 4/5
Clean aesthetics. Funky decor. Very compact seating, but suitable for their target market. However, possibly not the best place for leisurely brunches. Extra points for cute little water bowl/dog treats outside.
Food: 5/5
Amazing! Consistently delicious food. Beautiful plating. Creative. Fresh, using seasonal produce.
If I remember correctly, they use Supreme beans. Great coffee - both regular and iced.
Cannot fault their food, will have to visit again soon.
Would recommend 10/10. Bravo!
Billy is an excellent little cafe. ambiance is quite average I suppose but food is killer. Chicken burger and french toast are epic. Every single item on the menu comes in great portion. In all seasons apart from winter it's just lovely to sit outside in the sun directly exposed to the domain. Coffee is good and service is superb. Would be going here regularly for a long time!
Excellent location, easy parking with indoor and outdoor seating. It’s best to come early as the place can be pretty busy. Food are also top notch (both cabinet and the ones menu) their fries are so yum! Although more mayo would have been nice! Service was very fast and the staff are also lovely. overall very happy with the place and will be back!
Dang this place is delicious 🙌 Ventured here on a Sunday lunchtime. Menu with great options and incredibly friendly staff. Perfect location, straight opposite the domain - great to go walk off a perfect lunch. We got the two burgers, one chicken and one beef - melt in your mouth delicious and the fried chicken one was a delicious mess of crunchy with sticky sweet gochujang sauce. I will definitely be back and will be bringing more friends!
By far the best Vegan breakfast anywhere in the world is served at Billy’s. fantastic service too- keep up the good work guys! If only the heater outside worked - hopefully it’s been fixed now ...
Billy Cafe is directly opposite The Domain in Newmarket & has great views of it from the outdoor seating.
Service is friendly & efficient, and the menu has regular & unique options.
Coffee was hot & strong - perfectly made. Actually a great place to grab a coffee before or after a walk around the park.
I tried the French toast which was delicious! Perfectly balanced textures & flavours including crispy bacon. The granola was a nice addition too.
What a lovely cafe, went on a Sunday afternoon with my friend and we ordered some lunch and a coffee. The food was healthy, tasty and beautiful and my coffee was perfect and full of flavour. My favourite aspect about this cafe is that it was really relaxing and the staff were chilled out but hard working. I would definitely bring my family and friends here again!
Been here plenty of times and never disappoint me. Coffee is always on point, even if you order their filter - it's worth a try.
Had their smashed pea and I swapped out the bread with hash brown just cause why not! And the taste is so balanced with the vinegered fennel. Sour yet refreshing.
Then tried their chicken burger was pretty good but it is quite big in portion, if you're not too hungry. You can probably share with your partner when one of you order from the cabinet.
Food: on point and generous with portion.
Coffee: slurppppppppp
I had the omelette, which looks, smells and tastes amazing! My friends had the French toast and the porridge, and they loved their dishes too. Definitely gonna visit again!
Can't rave about this place enough! The food is stunning, the conversation with staff easy and the coffee is always good. This was one I had been waiting to try and well worth the wait.Could become a new local, although parking is a mish on Carlton Gore 😩
Love this cafe and the view over the Domain especially on a sunny day. They have great brunch food, and some with an Asian twist. The only downside is that they are always busy and we often have to wait for seats (and I suspect that is because there are not enough tables just for two). I really enjoy the Morning Sunshine and the Fried Chicken Burger. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating.
Another week of cafe hunting with friends! I ordered one of their lunch specials that day, which was the Fried Chicken Burger (on a brioche bun) with waffle fries. My friends ordered the Morning Sunshine and the Benedict. As for coffee, a soy flat white, soy latte and a cappuccino with cinnamon. The fried chicken was so crispy and crunchy; I think it's Korean inspired! There was also gochujang sauce and caramelised onions, which made it super delicious! Waffle fries were nice and crispy too. I took the first sip of my coffee, and it just melted my heart. I'll be back soon, if I'm roaming around Newmarket! Good job, team!
Great friendly inviting cafe for coffee!! It is busy in the mornings but had a take away long black this morning 4/5! Definitely worth a visit!

A great spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Borders right on to The Domain with great views, lots of off street parking. Got a customised Hash Brown Sandwich, which was amazing. Have also had a few of their other meals, and donuts are a real winner.
so good! had the banana french toast with bacon. berries were juicy and the fried banana was amazing. bacon could perhaps have been a little crispier. came out super fast. might go back tomorrow to test the menu (:
update: visited 4 times in 3 days lol. the berry smoothie is delicious, and the mushroom sauce is amazing - would recommend getting as an extra to your order. tried the hash brown burger and vegan breakfast with added bacon. yum!
24/03/18: hashbrown sandwich for breakfast, delicious. got extra mushroom sauce with it, wished there was more tbh. sandwich itself was excellent- my favourite breakfast spot!!!
feel like my stomach has floated to heaven while the rest of my body is stuck in this shithole called Newmarket, would recommend grabbing a donut on the way out id definitely come here again.
Really great place in Newmarket for lunch/ coffee. The cabinet food looked delicious but we decided to order from the menu (which is SO well priced, around $14 for a dish). All of us got the green chickpea hummus with kale, a poached egg and feta, served on Freedom loaf style bread. Staff were really nice and attentive! Would definitely recommend coming here :)

Wasn’t a huge fan of the white part of the poached eggs but. Would still recommend this place. Customer service is so warm and lovely and the atmosphere is gorgeous! The fruit smoothies as well are amazing! And the bacon was cooked perfectly!
I’m a huge fan of Billy Cafe. If I’m looking at the menu options, I generally struggle to look past the Hash Brown Sandwich. You will not be disappointed. The iced lattes always hit home as well. Great location in Newmarket, looking straight across to the domain. Get involved!

Highly recommend the vegan breakfast here (I am not vegan, but it tasted delicious!)
Great wee spot overlooking the Auckland museum and the domain park.
Coffee was great as well.
Best coffee around Newmarket, best scones too.
I tried their hash brown sandwich once and I hated it, but after trying their coffee and scones I changed my mind about the place. Stick to cabinet food and you’ll have consistently awesome coffee and delicious food
Have had Sunday brunch nice little care by the domain. Very nice staff and good service. Has an American flavour so there is different fried food choices but also some nice healthy choices. I had the mushrooms which were yum but would not choose the thick cut bacon again because not into the fat enough. My partner had the cheese burger but in a deconstructed manner as he likes it better that way. The lady next to us just ordered off the sides menu which is great if you do not want a big meal and she highly recommends the hash browns.

September 2022: Still a great place to have a morning snack
We really appreciate this cafe gem.
A few weeks ago we accidentally came across their chocolate & berry muffins that were amazing. They've been experimenting with them since then. For instance, today (13 March 2022) they put some 🧀 in. But we prefer just 🍫 🫐: fresh, warm, and moist.
Great coffee, good view overlooking the domain, interesting food options and some creative ideas around their burgers. Good service as friendly staff.
Absolutely stunning outlook of the domain. Well covered outside and not windy. The hash brown stack is their signature dish and is really good, and very filling. Use supreme coffee and make it extremely well. Not a huge number of tables but you never need to wait long
It is easy to pass this cafe when you walk down Carlton Gore cause it lives under the Fuji Xerox building.
The place is quite small but they do have a few large tables inside as well as some smaller ones outside. The menu has a fair selection of items for both food and drink. I tried the double cheese mushrooms and an iced chocolate.

The coffee is the best around. Cabinet food took a while to appear, but they were under the pump making coffee. That is their 'gold star' product after all.
*Updated 11/7/21:
Food, and coffee great, and the view still amazing.
Matthew and his staff run an awesome little cafe.
Great little cafe near the Domain with an awesome view of the Museum. Coffee was well made and brand are supplied by Supreme, the menu is simple with a few unique touches, well presented on the plate and a decent size. Ordered the vegan breakfast with a side of bacon (there is two options!) and enjoyed everything.
A nice quiet cafe on a Sunday. Really enjoyed this vegan breakfast dish.
Amazing coffee and food,, very friendly service and love the location. Bought have-here coffee and finished with another take-away just to have a walk around the domain.
Very very good food at a reasonable price. Presentation of the food was especially nice and fairly unexpected considering the atmosphere is of a relaxed village cafe.
