Went for lunch with hubby and son this week and was very impressed by food and service! Lovely friendly staff and lamb jalfrize was best I have had in NZ by far. Fresh ingredients, lots of flavour and amazing value for money with the $10 lunchtime special! No wonder my hubby gets his lunch here most weeks �

The best Indian in Auckland by a county mile!! We have eaten in many Indian restaurants all over this city and nothing beats this place. Full of flavour, great service - my mum has been coming here for 10 years and swears by it :-)
The customer service at this restaurant is AMAZING! We messaged them as curry received was not up to their usual high standard. They replied quickly and remedied the situation for us straight away. The curries at this place are delicious and the staff go above and beyond. Such a great place to have as our local!

Nice tasty curry though not a lot of meat for the price. Love raita but this one is too sweet for me.
U can never go wrong with Shahi Dawat. Their food is very tasty. They use very flavoursome spices and not the nasty ones that give you heartburn or acidic refluxes. Highly recommended for authentic taste, good hygiene and flavourful food.
Good straight forward Indian food done right. Can’t go wrong with their lunch special. Only wish their portion was a bit bigger 😭
Totally worth your money if you are looking for tasty curry! We found this place on accident and I am so glad we did. We now go out of our way to get food here even though its no where near where we live.
I've yet to find a better curry house. The food is amazing and warms every piece of you. The location is okay, interior is nice and staff are friendly, but the real reason to go is the gorgeous food.
Has to be the best butter chicken I have ever had. Love that it's a deep rich colour and full of flavor unlike the bland orangey kinds you tend to find in the mall food courts. Love that I can order it spicy hot as well, the only way I like it. The vege Samosas are also the best I've found. Pastry is nice and light and crispy. We used to be regulars at this restaurant ordering the same two dishes every time, butter chicken and vege samosas, until we moved out of the Peninsula. We miss not being able to have this anymore :(
I've ordered takeaways from here and haven't been let down, dine in experience is just as good. I would highley recommend the Tikka Masala it is really good.
I've been coming here for several years now. I have yet to find an Indian restaurant anywhere that does a prawn malabari anywhere NEAR as good as Shahi does.

Best naan bread!!!! Really enjoy their butter chicken but a little runny with the sauce. Also disappointed that they don’t have a deal for start of the week like most other restaurants. Would be rating this a 5.

Our local Indian which we get takeaways from nearly every Friday night. Food is always hot and delicious and the level of spice is awesome! The Chicken Saag and the Lamb Madras (according to my husband) are must tries. Thoroughly recommend.

We love butter chicken and to be honest we have tried quite a feq across auckland cities but by far the best we have had would be from here. The flavors are amazing and to top it off the staff are really friendly too and the service is fast
I am a massive butter chicken fan and when I say this place has the best butter chicken in town , you better believe it!!! This has become a family favourite at least once a week. Food is delicious, atmosphere is always relaxed and the staff are amazing!! Especially the waitress!! You must visit this place to experience a great meal out.
Ordered butter paneer, butter chicken and prawn twisters, everything was cooked perfectly! And for sure I will Definitely be coming back again !
This place is usually pretty good but unfortunately they didnt do as good as they usually do got a plain naan instead of the garlic naan i had asked for and a mild butter chicken instead of a medium so was rather disappointed this time round especially being pregnant and craving it i was really really looking forward to it
I actually ordered home delivery from this place a couple of weeks back, which is what I'm all about. I love food places that offer home deliver especially in a suburb I've been living in for 20 years. Ordered some Butter Chicken and 5 Naan breads one time and like all butter chickens and naan breads I've eaten elsewhere, they are top notch.
The service was absolutely outstanding, didn't have to wait that long to receive the order at my doorstep and the person who handed my order was a good bloke too.
Although I've to the actual place once, from what I can recall was that it had a more European like feel. probably because of the layout of the chairs and tables it's all aligned.
Ordered the $10 lunch menu and it was just as good as the dinner items, came with a generous amount of naan and curry. Cheap and awesome place to go for some of the best Indian in west Auckland.
Shahi Dawat is a great little restaurant - my partner and I go here regularly as the food is always really good & the staff are always lovely. Being a long, narrow building, it has a funny feel about it, but that is the only downfall. It's a great restaurant to go to for a casual dinner - take a bottle of wine & you can have a lovely evening out without it breaking the bank. Plus, unlike most places in Te Atatu Peninsula, Shahi Dawat is open 7 days a week so you're never disappointed. Would definitely recommend!
We really appreciate that they are happy to swap the dairy for coconut cream in their dishes. I cannot recommend the Veg Korma with coconut cream highly enough. Oh yes and the Aloo Ghobi with coconut cream is also divine. My only critique is that I would like to see even more vegetarian dishes on the menu, especially dairy free. How about swapping paneer with tofu for some dishes? Otherwise, excellent service and consistently good food. Well done!
I'm giving this restaurant a 5.0 because I've been here many many times and never had a bad experience. Food is always delicious and service is always great. My favourite dish is the fish/prawn malabari. Delish! The place is really nice and they warm the plates up which is a lovely touch. We love Shahi Dawat!

The best butter chicken in Auckland I've tasted so far. Have tried both the mild and medium. Medium packs a punch full of spices and heat. If you don't like heat I would strongly recommend the mild as you probably wouldn't handle it.
Entrees are delicious. Catered to our family well. Our little one makes a mess with the rice each time and they were really understanding . So they have no problems with kids. Dinner menu including drinks for two adults and one child always around $90 (mind you my partner always tops up his Coke) Not too bad. Worth it.
Good quality food and portions. Always a winner for the family if we are craving Indian food!
I worked at this Restaurant quite a long time ago as a delivery driver/dishwasher, It had only been open a couple of years, It was the first time I tried Restaurant style " Indian Curry" and I must say to this date the curry from here is the best by a long way, I have moved away from auckland so haven't been there in years, Since then I have tried many other different indian restaurants throughout the country and none of them come close to how good shahi dawats curries are especially there butter chicken, I highly recommend if you are near Te Atatu Peninsula and want the best curry ever come here. I can't wait to eat here again next time I am in auckland ,It truly is the best!

It's definitely isn't easy to find good, authentic Mughlai indian food. So I was thrilled to have eaten a fair few times here and loved it each time. Highly recommend the kebabs, Rogan Josh and their Malabar curry but you might find you have other favourites. All their food is pretty delicious, so happy sampling!
Best Indian food I've been too in West Auckland. Priced abit more but worth it.
I've tride so far, butter chicken, lamb madras, chicken korma, biriyani, tandoori chicken and naan. They are Lovely.
Only thing, one time I ordered the chicken korma and upped the heat to a medium.
Wowza, that blew my socks off.
Next time if I want heat in My order I'm going to ask for in between mild to medium. I love this place and so thankful that finally we have a great Indian restaurant out West.
I did takeout.........I have had food from here before and I have been very pleased with what I have bought.
However, this most recent time I had two discrepancies. One, about portion size and second, nan bread mis-order. I was quite annoyed that I had to go back.......however on returning they heard my woh and gave me more nan and chicken.

This is without doubt the best restaurant experience in West Auckland! The service is top class, from booking to being seated, and throughout the meal, nothing was too much trouble.
The food is exquisite! We ordered a mix of entree's, mains and deserts, and without exception all were cooked to perfection, curry strength perfectly as ordered, and their own naan bread is to die for!
We will return, and bring our special friends with us. (Don't want too many booking you out on us!)
Awesome place to dine....very friendly and professional staff, have been here a number of times with my family who live in the area even though we live outside of the area and have always found the staff very attentive to our needs which included very young children....food is excellent :-)
We have only been here for lunch but have always enjoyed the food and service. The ten dollar lunch special is tasty and ample for a quick lunch. We have also enjoyed an entree plate of things like samosas between two for a satisfying lunch meal. Well priced and reliable food.
Our family eat hear at least twice a month. We love the food, and have loved becoming known by the friendly family and staff that run the place.
I highly recommend this as well priced, tasty, family friendly, Indian food.
We had takeaways last night from Shahi Dawat and again we weren't disappointed. Food was absolutely lovely, full of flavour and with the right amount of spices, and the service was great too. We are so lucky to have this as our local Indian. We just keep going back for more!
We moved into the area 4 weeks ago and are so stoked we found a fantastic Indian takeaways. After living in Grey Lynn for the past 7 years we thought we would really miss our local on great nth road. Have tried a few different dishes over the past month from Shahi Dawat & looking forward to trying many more.
I love this place! The food is great and the family are so friendly and we eat here so often that the service becomes personal. The decor is in need of a bit of a lift but I believe that this is on the cards soon. Highly recommended.
It's my local curry house and I will go here once a week if I my wife let's me :) Although it's the closest and only curry house I know of in The Pen, I am a huge curry fan, and reckon they do it very well. I have never been disappointed. All my out of town (and out-of-country) friends who have shared shahi with us have agreed. I have never felt the need to dine in, but like the staff. Anyway, must go place an order right now. It's Sunday curry night..!

This is the Indian place to go if you live out West. food never disappoints and banquet menu is just amazing and cheap. We took our friends here on many occasions and they love it also.

Moving into this area last year and seeing a Indian restaurant in the area was a great view, Me and my partner went to Shahi dawat to have takeaways. this was the best decision we had ever made, the butter chicken was the best I had ever had and the naan breads were all up to standard (not burnt)
As you walk in the friendly kitchen staff guide you where to place your order, and being able to stand there and watch the chefs cook the food with an open kitchen was brilliant, not many restaurants have this ! the staff is all very friendly and service very quick!

the price for te atatu is very reasonable because you pay for a curry and you get free rice with each dish when you takeaway. i give them A +++++++
Great food, the quality and taste is superb. Only complaint would be it's pretty expensive for Te Atatu. I think they get away with this by being the only Indian Takeaway on the Peninsula, plus their food really is great. Had a slightly burnt naan here and there, but generally pretty solid. Especially the curries (in particular the Lamb jalfrezi). Order from these guys when I can afford it. A+++

We really like this place. Food is very high quality and service was with a smile. They've looked after us well through my partners pregnancy, ensuring the food was ultra safe and also making recommendations. I eat at Shahi Dawat regularly and they never fail to impress me. The curries, naans, service and speed are always great here. Support local and head to Shahi Dawat, DON'T waste your time going to Shamiana next door it really isn't worth it. They also offer a delivery service with paywave available at your door and are always very friendly.
One of the better Indian takeout restaurants we’ve been to in NZ. The vegan, fish, chicken and beef options are all really really good. Definitely recommend.
