Came here for some cocktails last night, we were there just as it opened and they were so welcoming & it was warm inside. Used 2 Zomato golds as there was 5 of us so that was ideal! The espresso martini’s were yum! Also had the elderflower dark & stormy which was great except the bartender got our order wrong and made the wrong cocktail. My friends also had the gingerbread daiquiri which was so nice & the crystal ball which looked super cool but didn’t taste great. Overall a good deal!

I loved Mr. Blue sky so I ordered couple and my friend tried different cocktails and she loved all of them. What a nice place, cozy and chill. Love love love
Lovely hidden bar for small shared plates and drinks. Food menu was a little small, but tasted great. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff also.
Trying to find a hidden bar with a huge range of cocktails option accompanied by amazing finger foods? Well Gypsy Caravan is your way to go!
The drink menus are almost endless, with varieties of cocktails that I never even heard of (and I’m a big cocktail drinker). Not only that, but their finger foods, though might sound like your mundane everyday options, are actually (even though it appeared basic) possessed high quality taste!
I ordered the Braised Tounge (which is the best thing ever), Baked potatoes, and Housemade Bread (really fluffy and tasty).
The staffs are also very friendly, and the ambience is perfect for a chill night out (or even a chill day out). I would definitely visit again.
Overall:
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 5/5

Pretty ambiance. Went there for early dinner. The waiter always come back and checked on us to see if we need anything else. Waited a bit for food, but it was worth it :)
Wanted to try this place for a long time and finally went there last night! Food is delicious, decent amount of vegetarian and vegan options full of flavours! Partner found the meat really good too. All of that in a cute cosy atmosphere 🤗 worth the visit!
Ammmaazing! Gluten free, vegetarian and fish options. Super healthy! Portion sizes are slightly bigger then a typical fine dining restaurant. Oysters were the best i had! Slided out nicely and meaty! Soo good! Ambience perfect. Service top-notch. Price is very decent. Well worth it!
Gypsy Caravan's food was far better than the appearance of the restaurant itself. Four of us had a dinner of 6 courses on a Sunday evening. There were only a couple of tables other than ours.
The 1st course was oysters & homemade bread. The brown butter with dukkah has given additional flavour to the nice & warm bread. The 2nd course was potato broth with 63-degree egg & puffed wheat. Its taste was good, though the lumps of potato didn't appeal to me. The thin slice of cured beef had a nice smoked taste. The braised daikon on fermented chilli harissa & broccoli was very delicious. We all chose the fish as the fifth course - rather than leeks & polenta - & we all felt that this was the best dish of the day. The dessert was pear, yogurt & lemon.(Food - 4/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 3/5; overall - 3.5/5)Visited on 8 July 2018
The most amazing service, food and atmosphere. Very cosy venue with authentic seasonal dishes with super friendly staff. Something for everyone. Delicious range of tasty cocktails
Absolutely loved The Gypsy Caravan!!! The place looks so beautiful the staff were amazing AND THE FOOD - OMG TO DIE FOR!!! They offer such unique dishes that are so flavoursome. Drinks were delish too I’ll definitely be going back.
Tucked away behind Ponsonby you’d never really know with the great outdoorsy feels you get while waiting for a delicious looking Chicky Bowl cocktail to share which I didn’t 😍
Loved the decor of this place and the staff amazingly helpful and cheerful.
The food was outstanding tonight - our first time here for a 30th so we took up about 7 tables and corner seat. We had the $65 set menu (see pictures) and it was worth every cent in fact exceeded our expectation. They didn’t sell the beer we normally consume but everything else was fabulous!!
Visited here in the deep midsts of winter - it was a very cosy warm spot with heaters and a rustic feel that felt like I was in the backstreets of Spain (despite the cold). I wanted to praise Gypsy Caravan, and it was good, but it personally didn’t live up to the hype. I found the menu very small and ambiguous. I ordered the polenta chips and the popular pan fried ouzo cheese. I shared both of these, they were both quite filling dispute being small (probably from the diary which was my own doing). The pan fried cheese was a display to say the least. It’s literally cheese that’s lit on fire - was exciting to watch and quite delicious. The cocktails never fail me there, my choice is always the K Road as I like them sweet - however this can also be purchased from Miss Moonshine. Overall I enjoyed my time and the atmosphere, but the menu was a little lacklustre for me.
Dropped in for a drink here and dinner nearby. Love the caravan as the bar space. Open relaxing feel to the place with friendly service that gives to a desire to settle in for the night. Cocktail was well made - something consistently found in Auckland notably - smooth and very well balanced. I'd be back here without hesitation given the opportunity.
What a beautiful place to dine!
The food is always beautifully presented and taste great. The cocktails are great too!
Staff are all friendly and easygoing. However, they did get our order wrong even though the waiter came to check our order with us, the dish that came out was still wrong. All was fixed in the end and the food was great, we didn't mind the wait.
Nonetheless, it is still a wonderful place to catch up with friends over some good food and cocktails!
This quirky little place tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Ponsonby Road has such character. Love the cute blankets and cushions decorating the seating area. The most memorable dish was the pan fried ouzo cheese, not only tasty but visually entertaining to have the waitress light it on fire to transform it into a cheesy, stringy, melty delight.
My wife and I enjoyed a couple of the Greek/Turkish Platters. The flavour was amazing, a lot of the time of find falafels quite try but these were packed with flavour. We were drinking wine, but the cocktails also looked sizeable (prosecco base as well).
Looove this place! So warm and cosy on a cold night, yum drinks and super friendly service. Definitely recommended and keeps me coming back!

A quirky joint in the heart of Ponsonby. To my surprise the day we turned up on a mid week day for lunch, was to a very quiet and empty restaurant. However dont let that scare you off, I am sure its pumping during the weekends or evenings. It took me back to my trip around Greece and Turkey, where the food takes inspiration from. Without realising we ordered all vegetarian dishes however I am not sure it made them any healthier considering 2x of the dishes we ordered were completely cheese HA!
Great food and the best, authentic frosé in town!
Super cute decor and warm atmosphere, perfect for a nice dinner or just a relaxed drink. Friendly staff that'll help navigate/adapt menu to cater to dietary requirements.
Went here for Frosè last Friday at lunch time. Service was a little slow, however the Frosè was quite alright. The fit out and decor is fun and vibrant!! We didn't have food, however plan to go back and update this review for sure!
Have I told you about the time I died and went to heaven! But I wasn't dead because I was having this smashing piece of ouzo cheese at the gypsy caravan. This place with its fairy lights, funky lanterns and criss cross of Turkish carpets made up a beautiful place to be at. A place you would hashtag "prettyplace".
Back to the ouzo cheese. This marriage is not between two things but several which makes this communion a sweet as one. Panfriend ouzo cheese meets sourdough bread, honey complements it and lemon stands by its side. And like every other marriage they have dramas too. Their drama; ouzo cheese flambé which softens the cheese so you can take your sourdough and cut through. And if you find it too rich, add a few drops of lemon. Voila! One marriage that will never end in divorce.
On the other hand, hello "the best ever polenta chips"!!!! I'll ask you... yes YOU...Have you tasted naughty and nice? If not, then these polenta chips are just the right thing for you! These chips are crispy that you can hear the crunch through the chatters on the tables, and yet creamy and cheesy with the subtle flavour of rosemary coming through which is all nice. But you know what makes this naughty? The generous splash of Parmesan on it with the dollop of "zhoug" beside it. Zhoug the best foreign sounding dip I've had in a while. I won't reveal much, because you got to taste it to know it.
The service here- 100 of 10. You know what that means? If you've had a bad day or you feel like no one cares...the gypsy caravan does! So forget your worries and go embrace yourself with some lovely tlc and fill your tummy with some yummy!
Beautiful ambience and just the most incredible service and drinks selection! Another bonus is that they also take bookings which was perfect for me and my group of 7 last night. Such a great intimate setting for hanging out with friends or even for a more chill late night drinks date :) only critique would be that the portion sizes for dinner are a little bit small particularly for the price. My tiny friend finished her portion, said it was delicious but she could easily have had three times the amount! Other than that it's a beautiful place and we'll be back.
A cute place with a very quirky outdoor area. The food and drink selection was different to the usual Ponsonby fare and very thematic which I appreciated. I visited specifically wanting to try the Pan fried cheese and bread but unfortunately they weren't serving it that day. The cocktail however was delicious! Will be going back again to try the cheese dish again!
We were recommended to Gypsy Caravan by a friend who was with us for her second visit, our first. What a jewel! Like finding a treasure hidden behind the rest of Ponsonby Rd. The deserts are simply amazing and in a league all their own. Cosy and comfortable this place oozes charming personality. Definitely want to explore more of their inspired menu!
A perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon! The food here is amazing with my favourite item the melted cheese, amazing! Their cocktail list is extensive and each one presented in its own creative way! Definitely worth checking out!
2nd time coming here, ambience, service and cocktails are great. The place is so damn cute really, with great food espec the flaming ouzo cheese heaven and spot the hottest waiter ever, wait till you hear his accent!! Are you an ex smoker who really misses the taste...? Try the turkish delight dessert... you wont be disappointed.
You wouldn't really know gypsy caravan was an outdoor space; the furnishings make the dining room feel warm and cosy. We were warmly greeted, the service was relaxed but helpful, although it dropped off over the night. Our waiter helped us choose our street food inspired entrees, in particular the cooked cheese was excellent as were the mushrooms. We had the lamb tagine to share which was tasty and the meat was tender and moist. We ordered sides but they never arrived, which was fortunate because the couscous that came with the main was very filling. We had a very nice evening, good company good food in pleasant surroundings with a relaxed atmosphere
Love the outdoor seating area, we came at night time for a meal. The seats were comfortable and there were enough shelter and heaters to keep us warm. We started with the flaming cheese. This was really good and happy we tried something out of the ordinary. We also tried the Soft Shell Crab gyro. I couldn't taste anything else but the black sauce, it was too over powering.
For mains we shared the pork belly and polenta chips. The pork belly was nicely prepared but the polenta chips lacked flavour
Stumbled across Gypsy Caravan as we were early for dinner at Miss Moonshines next door. I had heard about this pop-up but hadn't gotten around to finding it.
We arrived when there were only a few people there & it was great relaxing on the cushioned seats with the retractable roof open. The fit out is awesome with lots of colours & areas to relax. Great music too.
Service was fantastic - engaging with good banter which added to the relaxed atmosphere.
We started off trying a couple of cocktails which were innovative & well made. We then decided to try the breads & dips to tide us over until friends arrived - they were yum. Bread nicely toasted, a red pepper dip, hummus with nutmeg (?) & oil + balsamic.
Looking forward to visiting again soon to try more of the tapas & cocktail menu.
Turned up for dessert and a cocktail and was presently surprised. A welcoming restaurant with an almost homely feel A after being welcomed in at 9pm at night. The Creme Brulee did not disappoint and the dessert cocktails were something different. This is a worthy contender to try for a night cap or something sweet. Their full menu looked delicious we might have to go and try that next time.
Wow what an amazing food experience! I'm in a current state of food coma! we had Buffalo wings, sliders, mac n cheese bites, chicken, pork ribs and loaded fries. can't fault any of it, the meats were well seasoned, spiced, rubbed and slow smoked in the pit, even the loaded fries were the best I've ever had. staff were super friendly and showed me the smoker and the chef was on hand to answer my questions. Can't wait to recover from my coma and go back for more!
it's the man of the house birthday and it's 107days after lockdown then, traffic light system is in effect - so! We are allowed to dine out (of course with ur covid pass, hooray!).... and obviously the celebrant suggested Miss Moonshine, a 45min to an hour drive from where we live (on an easy road traffic condition). Anyways, our first time to dine here... place is quite and clean. Staff is attentive & friendly (always a+)Food is good, meat tasty and falling off the bone. Desserts🍨 good too, I specially like the brownie. So all in all, It's worth the drive all the way. 👍
First visit since the relocation from Ponsonby and these guys still have it for sure! Food was on point and cooked to perfection as usual and staff were amazing. Well done team, will be back for sure!
Finally got round to trying Miss Moonshines after hearing so many great things, and we absolutely loved it ! The food was simply sensational, and we are already deciding what we will have on our return - everything on the menu Sounds and looks incredibly delicious. The beef short rib was my favourite - tender and pack with flavour. The deep fried mac n cheese balls were OMG good. And to finish, the deconstruct banoffie pie was a highlight. The salted caramel donuts came a very close 2nd.
The portions are not huge which means you can try lots of dishes and if you're in a group you can share.
Service was great, very knowledgable and can offer guidance on what to order.
Gypsy Caravan is next door and perfect for pre or post dinner drinks !
Very nice experience. Brisket was very moist. Ribs were quite good but a little dry not “fall of the bone” like in Texas. Paired well with Washington State merlot. Great service:) will be back for sure.
The restaurant is down at cool little Lane and the ambiance is great. Chill music playin. On entering you immediately smell the smokey aroma of the barbecue. We tried the works. So we got everything basically. All of the meat was super tender, even the chicken. All of the sources complemented perfectly and were quite complex in flavour. all of the staff were Pleasant and cool to interact with. Definitely want to return to :-)
Fantastic BBQ joint with a warm, lively atmosphere and American flare. The 450g short rib was awesome. Also try the Tequila Moonrise cocktail -- tasty fusion of tequila and blueberry. Side dishes are a la carte but great for sharing. Large portions, as you'd expect from an American-style restaurant. The date pudding for dessert was very good, just needs a bit more ice cream with it. Service was friendly, informative, and attentive. Overall a good experience, I'd return for sure if I'm ever in that part of Auckland.
Nice place perfect for small and large groups. I had the beef rib which was so tender it just fell off the bone. Was a tad bit salty but then I also had the pigtail fries which only added to the saltiness. Was very filling and sadly couldn't even finish my deconstructed banoffee which was not only beautiful but delicious too. Loved the surprise passionfruit flavour in it.
I’ve been here on a few seperate occasions, All of which we’re significantly special to myself. So In saying that the only reason I kept going back or choosing this place to come back to is because the food is GREAT!! IMO, Solid 9.5 for me love it here and I’ll keep coming back.
Enjoy so much on Saturday lunch, staff are friendly and helpful, kids menu available. The moonshine sausage is nice, beef bresket is soft Buffalo wings is mild hot just right. Enjoyable seating environment.
Vibrant atmosphere with a mix of groups from families to singles. All the meat was perfectly cooked and tender. The blue cheese dressing with the spicy chicken was particularly rich. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Miss Moonshines was probably one of the best restaurants I've been to this year.
When we first got here, the staff promptly seated us and gave us a nice explanation of how the menu works. They have a nice selection of beers on tap (I highly recommend the Pilsners), and the service was very hospitable.
The food came pretty quickly and we ordered the beef brisket and pork ribs. The pork ribs were good, but the beef brisket was absolutely scrumptious. I highly recommend getting the beef brisket with a side of fries. Portion sizes are also quite generous.
All and all, a very nice experience. I highly recommend checking this place out.
Pit Master Class worth doing with good mates delicious succulent meats paired with some very good tasting beers. With the banter flowing and the food prepared right in front of you sets the stage for a memorable time.
Meat lovers must try. We went there for Fathers Day and everyone enjoyed it, slowed cooked beef ribs were delicious and the chimichurri sauce was really good. The kids enjoyed the mortadella sliders, buffalo wings and sausages. They have a good selection of sauces - some with funny names 😉- and they offer catering services (great for outdoor entertainment).
Great dining experience at lunch on a Winter Saturday, which was surprisingly empty. Up front note, it's almost guaranteed that you'll spend quite a bit of $ here, especially if you're in a group (more likely to share more plates, have a few more drinks, etc). All of the bbq'd meats were perfect as well as their potato salad and other sides.... Well, maybe not their take on corn bread as it had chilis or spices in it and didn't taste like the classic southern US staple that I longed for. Very limited beer selection, but they've got at least 2 rotating taps. And of course more than a few moonshine cocktails to try out. The decor is wonderful too and I can't even really describe it other than. Just showing.
