I've taken a very long time to make it to this cafe, and I admit it with a bit of shame. I only live a few blocks away and drive past it almost every day.
So when my kids went back to school, I took the chance and rushed in for a breakfast. I was greeted so well, there was no way to walk away from it. I looked at the menu, which can be small for some, but I find it perfect as I don't have to think too much. Ordered the pancakes, which was heaven on earth. Paired with a chai, it was just what I needed.
But wait, there is more! I had my baby with me. As soon as I got there, I was shown a table, and before I could blink, a high chair was set up for her.
Baby was in a good mood, and smiled enough for me to take my time. A few minutes later, a plate with a sliced banana in the shape of a smiley face was handed to us.
I don't care about any other review you might read from now on. But you need to know that this is a place where these small things mean so much - it makes the food taste even better. Kindness was the dish of the day for me and I absolutely loved it.
I now have the duty to go there more often, thanks to the small details in good service. You will not regret going there.
As for me, I will go back to taste the mortadella sandwich. Just wait!
Fantastic new place staff were very friendly and the coffee and food was yum😊
What a stunning café, simple and sooooo welcoming.
Fantastic service and wonderful coffee, sandwishes, buns and pasteries.
I was there with a friend and we both tought the same.
Coffee tasted coffee....
The sandwishes were crunchy, tasty and warm so lovely on the bite.
Wish all the best for this place and the exeptional people working here.
This is just how it should be ..... you feel like going back
We love the scrolls and Caitlin is amazing on front of house and coffee... my boys have rated the scrolls best they’ve ever eaten!
Charming cafe in New Windsor where you'll get service with a friendly, welcoming smile. I tried the Daisy sandwich which is slow-cooked beef on a crispy warm bun and the meat just melted in my mouth, it was utterly delicious! The coffee is excellent and their cinnamon buns are a scrumptious after meal treat.
Always amazing food and the staff are just the nicest people in the world!!, not to mention the cinnamon scrolls are to d i e for!
Thank you so much for going above and beyond this morning to make my day a little easier and of course for the amazing coffee! You guys are the best and we love having you in our neighborhood
Simple, delicious food with excellent friendly service and a lovely fit out. Would highly recommend 👍😋👏
Yummy yum. Kicked my day off with a juicy B & E sammy and a piping hot Long Black! Great to have a new local in the area!
Happy to say I’m a ‘DAY ONE’ guy since this place opened up. Love the friendly service.
Stumbled across this gem today, amazing sandwiches (try the baloney), strong coffee, lovely decor and the friendliest staff you'll ever meet. Exactly what we needed in New Windsor. Even if I wasn't a local I would come here. Worth the visit. Will definitely be back for more.

Friendly staff, yummy food and coffee. Love the chips and the soda bread!!!
Been going here for a while and every time their customer service is amazing! Always a great vibe. I personally got the Eggplant Parm and the Cinnamon Bun which are both vegetarian. The eggplant parm is probably the best sandwich I've had in Auckland and would recommend it to any vegetarian! 5/5
I usually don’t write reviews but these guys are nailing at what they are doing. The toasties, especially the fish (smokey bro) was top notch. I’d comeback every time I come near this area 👍👍
The pancake is SO GOOD. The combination is simple and classic, with caramelized walnuts, caramlized bananas whipped cream and maple syrup, but they made it perfect. The famous cinnamon roll was pleasant too.
And loved the sandwich named Daisy, which is a sourdough sandwich filled up by slow cooked beef and melted edam cheese.

Best cafe ever. Epic coffee. Epic food. Epic people. Chur.
🥪▪️Smokey Bro & Daisy Sandwiches-4/5▪️🥪.
Tucked away on a corner in New Windsor is this cute little cafe. The staff are friendly and very attentive which made my customer experience estimable. The ambience of the place is lovely and although it is quite a small cafe, I suggest it’s best not to go during peak hours. We arrived around 10:30 and there wasn’t an available table inside so we were seated outside which we didn’t mind. The food we ordered probably took a total of 10-15mins to be served which is a good waiting time. I ordered the Smokey bro sandwich which came in a toasted brioche bun instead of the standard bread slices. I didn’t mind that and actually preferred it that way. The smoked khawai mixed with the cream fraiche in my sandwich was DELICIOUS. I would’ve loved another lemon wedge just to give it but more of a zingy taste but that still didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed my sandwich. My sister-in-law ordered the daisy sandwich of beef and pickled onion which she too enjoyed. The chips were crispy and delicious. We also ordered the donut and cinnamon bun to takeaway which I highly recommend to order as well. Both items were fresh, soft and moist. Definitely suggest to try this place👍
It was a cute little cafe, the atmosphere was lively and adorable. The cinnamon bun, $5 tasted yummy but wish they could have heated it up. I also order medium mocha which was $4.5 but the cup was TINY and the coffee tasted a little bland, maybe burnt? Not sure. Overall I still enjoyed it and would still come back for the cinnamon bun or try their donut.
Wish this nicely formed cafe was in my neighbourhood!! Visited on the back of a favourable review recently and it didn’t disappoint. Loved the Daisy sandwich and my flat white was the perfect temperature, bravo. Slightly pricey but worth it for the quality of ingredients and friendly service. It’s a small space and I can imagine it would pack out pretty quick. Their menu offering is tight but I’m guessing what they do they do very well, which is how it should be. One observation - as a single lunching alone I didn’t want to hog a table, but found the stools were uncomfortably low for the window bench top (or bench top too high..), so ended up sitting at the last remaining (free) table inside.
Will definitely visit again and recommend to others.
This hidden gem never fails to disappoint !! Amazing food and great service. Highly recommend :)
Fantastic coffee and delectable baked goods all prepared by a team of super friendly folks. And not badly priced either. Great vibe from a very unassuming place in the burbs. Get there early to avoid missing out on the cinnamon rolls and cream buns which sell out very fast!
Best cream donut in town.
Have been meaning to come here for a while. People have been talking about this suburban place. It did not disappoint. Recommend the eggplant palm bun, the fresh cream doughnut with rhubarb filling. The coffee was good too. The place was packed on a Friday before 11.30am. Lovely friendly team behind the counter in a pretty cool place. I will definitely be back to eat my way thru the menu.

I like the way they toasted the bread with bacon and scrambled egg, its yum. Friendly staff, with good vibes which i really look into it aside from food. Easy to locate
Absolutely love this place!
I’ve been here several times and all of them have been great.
The food, coffee, ambiance and service.
This corner cafe is most definitely worth the drive even if you live a bit away because the food is simple but so tasty and the staff there are so done to earth and this alone makes me want to come back:)
Such a great little café. Everybody is super smiley and happy and they greet you like an old friend. They put out the best supreme coffee. And their cinnamon buns are to die for. Lovely sunny cafe with delicious coffee and food.
Love coming here for either my morning coffee on the way to uni, or bringing friends! Staff are so friendly and always make a banger of a coffee.
This little cafe tucked away on New Windsor road that is known for its great coffee, delicious cinnamon rolls and incredible tasty sandwiches. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that they sell the some of best sandwiches in all of Auckland.
𝐄𝐠𝐠𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐡 🍆 Honestly, this would be up there with one of my favourite things that I’ve ever eaten. Let’s start off by talking about the bread. They use the most perfect brioche buns, it’s soft and fluffy on the inside then is lightly toasted on the outside, creating a lovely contrast of softness and crispness. Inside is the most succulent crumbed eggplant that simply melts in your mouth. Melted mozzarella cheese oozes out of the burger, alongside a thick and rich tomato sauce and fresh basil. The flavours of every element explode in the mouth and create just the most delightful-tasting sandwich in the world. Just don’t make the same mistake I did the first time I consumed this perfect specimen and bite into it too eagerly as the inside was so hot I walked around with seared tastebuds for the next two days. If you avoid doing that I promise you’ll have a sandwich experience that is out of this world. Straight 10/10
As a regular at this cafe, the food never disappointed. Super friendly staffs and service just make your day. We order flat white which is awesome, the sandwiches which use home made bun, full of flavour and the popular chips always our favourite. Not to mention their super popular cinnamon bun, sold out fast. For all the foodies out there, come to this cafe if you in Auckland, you will not disappointed.
Amazing cinnamon rolls! The bread is really fresh and the prices are very reasonable. The staff was also very friendly. Parking is a little tough on the corner but well worth it!
Hare and turtle is awesome. Best service you can have in Auckland food scene! The people here are friendly and helpful and make you feel food overall you don’t want to leave.
Ambience: the store is spacious with heaps of lighting. Nice table settings and the whole place screams coziness and comfort.
Food: we ordered the smokey bro (fish sandwich) and I the geezer (ham sandwich) with a creamy slaw and ended on a high note with their home made cinnamon roll. The roll was definitely my favorite. The sandwich was tasty, fulfilling and the bun were just so buttery and good.
Highly recommended!!!
A few minutes’ walk from my place of residence, I’m a huge fan of Hare and the Turtle. Neighborhood café don’t right, there’s a relaxing and cool atmosphere at the Hare & Turtle. Spotless and a nice café team, I felt completely at home.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to try out their signature doughnut, although they looked delicious, I’m sure I get more opportunities in the future. I picked up my standard black coffee with a Eggs Butty. How was it? The perfect way to kick off your day, fried egg and grilled sweet bacon with toasted buns.
Overall Grade: A-
Showstopper: One of the best local cafes around Auckland.
Hare and Turtle is a small local cafe I keep finding myself revisiting. The coffee is great and I love the whole vibe of the place - from the small plastic dinosaurs they give you with your cutlery to the upbeat and friendly staff. For $10 you can get the fluffiest pancakes you’d find yourself paying a lot more for at other cafes. The sandwiches are a tad pricey for what they are, however I’d highly recommended The Daisy - slow cooked beef that melts in your mouth with creamy cheese along with a kick from the picked onion. The Cinnamon buns are also to die for, they are so soft and not too sweet.
Food - 9/10

Came for some coffee but why not a cinnamon roll as well? Oh man I can't even express how good the coffee was 10/10 would go again! The roll was just nooooooice, loved it! Staff were very friendly, lady greeted us when we came through the door and greeted us after we finished.
The place is simple, tiny but thats the thing, youre not spending too much time thinking what to order.
Sat next to the tray of basil plants which I thought was odd but hey why not chuck a bit of greenery there, why not.
This was my first time here, always pass by this place and you guys nailed it.
Will return again soon

Ps. The dinosaur was hungry, he said it was 10/10 too.
Delicious food and super well priced! We got the pancakes and the egg plant Parma sandwich, as well as a cinnamon bun for takeaway. Everything was soo good, we will definitely be stopping in here again.
Amazing place! Have been here twice now and tasted the bacon and egg, daisy sandwich, ham roll and turkey roll. They were all DELICIOUS! Generous fillings, such good condiment choices, light fluffy bread and rolls and such good quality meat.
The fries are like double fried or something and they taste so good. Supreme coffee is served one of my favourites. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
The food is simple but done really well! The staff here are all super lovely & friendly. The cinnamon bun, pancakes and daisy were all delicious 😋
lovely iced latte and cinnamon bun, b&e sandwich not pictured was a delight. friendly staff and the cafe ambience was lovely on a monday afternoon. would definitely go back to have another cinnamon bun and try another sandwich
A must visit local cafe. Food is simple and delicious, especially their cinnamon bun, you cant run pass that. Staffs there are friendly and easy to locate and park.

Top notch! Simple clear menu. Great service and awesome coffee! Must have pancakes. Tasty sandwiches. An awesome place for a quick bite or long conversation.
My local and favorite brunch spot. Staff are super friendly food is legit. Can get busy on weekends. Pancakes are a must try and look great for the gram 👍
Went there for the first time from a recommendation from a friend. Had the slow cooked beef sandwich and fries and my friend had the bacon and egg. Was absolutely delicious and the fries were perfect! Definitely will be returning. The coffees were brilliant and service was welcoming, friendly and attentive.
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal of salmon on rye but in gf bread and the hot chips were just something else, so so yummy!! Coffee was delicious too (soy, mocha).
Staff were very helpful and friendly too!
We ordered the smoke fish remoulade and goody good (avocado pesto smash, tomato and chilli caper crumble). Both were light, fresh and scrumptious. We both enjoyed the soy latte as well - there was a fragrant coconut-ty sweetness to the soy. Love it. Will definitely be back.
P/S: their cinnamon buns are to die for 🤤
Venue is small, probably seats 30odd people. The lady who served me was very nice n polite. The food I ordered (eggs with sourdough and the Grobbler which was Turkey and Cranberry) was nice. Could do with more options on the menu, but overall its a good small place.
I’ve had the avocado on toast, but they do a fancy version of it! My husband chose the pancakes and I had a taste, absolutely delicious. Everything is so fresh and yummy! The staff are very friendly!
Pretty decent coffee and sandwich selections. I went for the avo smash, so it would have been hard to go wrong there.
Not many tables and seats available, and ventilation is not great so it can get pretty stuffy if you're sitting at the far left corner of the cafe on a hot sunny day. Regardless, nice wee spot for coffee and catch up with friends. I hear the cinnamon rolls are to die for. I tried one, it was okay tasting - nothing to shout about.
All in all, a good place to go to for a cafe in the 'burbs.
This place was amazing! I have lived around the corner for years and am now beating myself up for not having visited sooner. The sandwiches were A++ The Turkey One was incredible! And the hot cinnamon rolls! Wow 🙌
Rating based on an EXCELLENT caramel slice, with a yummy crunchy oat crumble topping instead of chocolate. I didn’t actually try anything else yet - although my husband liked his coffee and salmon on rye sandwich.
This small cafe was very busy on a Saturday morning - obviously a favourite with locals - but service was friendly and impressively quick.
Given than it’s small, it’s not really a family friendly option - I saw a few babies but there’s no space for toddlers or children to run around and play - only downside for me.
This is our second visit to Hare and the Turtle and we’ve been so impressed both times, so I thought I’d better review ‘em! This is their smoked fish sandwich, and it was a real flavour party. Their chips are also so great here (very crispy!) and it’s all reasonably priced. Highly recommend it for brunch. And don’t miss the cinnamon buns!
Go here all the time! Their pancakes are amazing, highly recommend, they come with a yummy nut topping so good. Sandwiches are their specialty, these guys used to be with Best Ugly Bagel so you know they are good. Coffee is great and their cinnamon buns are YUM. Little cafe so get in early to snag a table or grab your kai to go and head to the local park Brydon Place Reserve.
Cutest cafe yet! Honestly loved everything we ordered! The place isn’t to far from my place either which makes it so convenient for me!Definitely will go back!
We absolutely love this place, very fresh, open and friendly atmosphere. The coffee is outstanding! Their team are lovely and really welcoming. Hard not to try their sweets which are next-level tasty, and their specialty sandwiches are outstanding. Cheers guys🤙
Old school sandwiches.
Crispy-as beer-battered fries.
90’s bakery treats like rocky road and luscious cinnamon buns.
Plastic dinosaur toys as table markers.
A fable-sounding name which, in fact, comes from a song title from the owner’s old band.
Someone’s being nostalgic for sure, and we’re loving it.

I really love this cute little cafe. It's in such an ideal area, as cafes in New Windsor are far and few between. The food is amazing, and I'm always greeted with smiles and banter! I have been a little disappointed the last few times I have come however. The coffee's I've been receiving have had very bubbly/burnt milk. I hate to put such a low review, but if the coffee was a little better I would most definitely be here every morning before uni!
This cute new cafe in New Windsor has a small but tasty menu and their speciality is Cinnamon rolls. We had a girls catch up here over the weekend and all sampled the rolls along with different options from their savoury sandwiches. I had the grilled cheese which was delicious and the perfect savoury complement to the cinnamon roll!
Fantastic place, good quality yummy food in a great spot. I definitely recommend you give it go.
Good prices, friendly staff value for your buck.
Absolutely delightful addition to the neighborhood. A welcoming space with lots of natural light and minimalist decor.
Food is top notch - I've tried every sandwich and can't decide if my favorite is the Daisy (Beef and cheese), the Goody Good (Avocado and tomato) or the Smoky Joe (smoked fish). Lots of moorish baking and constantly top notch Supreme coffee served up with above average banter. The soundtrack is always on point with a well crafted selection. Great to have a bustling local spot.
Lovely little cafe, best in the surrounding suburb that I’ve tried. Amazing coffee and very well priced food. Super friendly staff and the atmosphere was awesome.
Amazing coffee. With the Italian power of a La San Marco espresso backed by coffee Supreme beans you cant go wrong. Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice little cafe. Being a local and a coffee lover, Definitely returning back for more..
Pretty little cafe in New Windsor where you'll get service with a friendly, welcoming smile. I tried the Daisy sandwich which is slow-cooked beef on a crispy warm bun and the meat just melted in my mouth, it was utterly delicious! The coffee is excellent and their cinnamon buns are a scrumptious after meal treat. 👍🏼
Great friendly service! And delish food and coffee! The environment is humming! And great to have a cafe around new Windsor!! Would be good to see more options on the menu though!
This is a new local where cafe Sweetie used to be. A great makeover and very vibrant place. Was almost packed on Sunday morning but we managed to grab a table. Menu is pretty simple with a number of different sandwiches you can get as well as couple of other items.
Pancakes were tasty and great combo with mascarpone and grilled banana. Cinnamon buns were also great. Oh and coffee is Supreme, for those who knows what it is. ;)
Would be great to see more options on the counter food as well more outside seats for the upcoming summer! Well done!
Wow!!!!! I ordered an off menu item being the special vegan sandwich and it was absolutely amazing!!!!! Hash brown, mustard, chutney, pickled onions and lettuce. Highly highly recommend, I will be back for sure. Thank you so much Hare and Turtle!
My favourite place for sammies and cinnamon rolls. Great service, everyone is so positive and the food is just amazing. My most fave is Eggplant Parm, even though I tried every single sandwich there 😋😄 Baloney is a good one too, love pickled onions.
The eggplant parm sandwich is amazing, everything is just right together. I love to try something else next time and I will definitely recommend it to my friends
Super impressed by the cinnamon roll and iced maple latte I had here. Delicious. Coffee has been mostly a miss at most places I’ve been to in Auckland but this definitely was not one of them.
Very friendly staff too!
Best sandwich ever had in breakfast.
Service was amazing …definitely would come back….big cheers👍
The Hare & the Turtle is where its at for amazing food & service!! This is my 2nd time co.ibg here for breakfast nd not only are the people absolutely amazing, cheerful nd friendly, THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY SCRUUUMPTIOUS!!!! I %100 recomend, if youre on the area to pop in nd grab a coffee nd/or something to eat cause you will not be dissappointed!! 10/10 guys 👍🏻😊💛
This place is incredible. The grilled cheese sandwiches and breakfast buns were absolutely to die for, fries also on point and the sweet cinnamon roll and coffee was perfect for washing it down. Portion sizes were perfect, and everything was reasonably priced! Hare & Turtle you stunner. Located in blockhouse bay auckland this spot is tucked away but you can immediately tell its popular from the swathes of people stopping by. The service was perfect from ordering to it being delivered - super friendly staff and very helpful.
Delicious! Lots of cute little details. Love this shop!
This place is good but be warned that they do not have the breakfast menu that is in some of the older photos. I was pretty bummed they didn’t have pancakes or other brunch items when I arrived- but they do have two breakfast sandwiches available (amongst a menu of more lunch-type sandwiches) and cinnamons rolls that did not disappoint! The coffee was also very good and they had lots of options for tea as well.
Excellent coffee.
Lovely staff. Great welcoming nature.
Ambience is amazing.
Great little Cafe in the neighbourhood. Very warm welcoming and kind staff👍🏻 The beef sandwich is delicious but prefer the Bacon and egg bun as the sauce is more flavoursome😋 Iced Latte and iced chocolate are refreshing, and cinnamon bun tastes good as well. Expecting different kinds of food on the menu in the future;)
This is a little hole in the wall cafe. The seating is very limited and feels quite crowded if you’re seated near the door. The food was amazing! We failed to take a picture of the donut with pink frosting we had that literally melted in our mouth. The sandwiches were both flavorful and substantial. Service was great particularly considering how busy they were. We day dreamed of living in walking distance of such a delicious spot.
Hare and Turtle is a little hidden gem. We were really guttered that we missed there cinnamon buns. But, the selection we got we really enjoyed. Surprisingly, the chips were the best thing we got, super crunchy and perfectly cooked. Sandwich’s we’re also pretty decent as well.
This place probably had the best cinnamon roll I ever had. Never had it gone down so easily along with coffee. So soft. My only criticism is since the cafe is so good and busy, it would really do with more seating/tables. Service was really great as soon as you walk in.
The best brunch spot. Easy, casual and simple but on point. Always nails it and never once have I regretted going there. Eggplant parm is simply the best, and this is coming from someone who would always choose any forms of meat over anything else. The staff there are always really nice and friendly.
You know how the mark of a good eatery is when you have it take away and it still tastes just as better. Love this place!
Having seen some good reviews I wanted to give this place a go. I was not disappointed, if you are wanting a change from fancy cafes with their leafy green offerings, this was an awesome change in pace. The sandwiches here are amazing, vegetarian and non-vegetarian alike. I did not get a chance to try the cinnamon buns yet but that would be a nice takeaway next time. Beer battered fry’s were great too. All in all very fulfilling meal at some decent prices. Parking is right outside, sitting is limited here but it wasn’t too busy when we arrived. Good place for takeout too.
I totally ate it all before taking photos, but I’ll be driving over this way from the other side of Auckland because the sandwiches are that damn good.
