Lunch with friend in atrium on elliot, craving too much for salmon so i didn’t ever think about trying something else and went straight away to grab salmon donburi from umi and umiya sushi.. nice and good portion with good price - Denny Setiawan
These guys have amazing prepacked vege+meat+rice or pasta combos! I ate there a lot. Sushi is very nice. But never buy cooked food from them. Ramen was very bad as well. Stay at sushi and prepacked food, and you cant go wrong!
Best $6 lunch in Auckland. I would give them 5 stars if they returned to using cabbage instead of lettuce in the donburi. Food is usually nicest and freshest around lunchtime when they're at their busiest. It can be a bit old by late afternoon.
What I love about this place is how you can choose whatever sushi or items you want, instead of having to buy a whole pack of the same sushi. There is a huge variety of $1 sushi and most of them are actually really decent. I've never tried the hot food so can't judge it.
This place literally has the the best salmon donburi I've ever had. Comes with salad and miso, lots of fresh veges and two choices of sauce (teriyaki or spicy pepper). Generous portion of salmon. All for $13. Sushi selection also looks amazing. Yum!!!
You get great variety of Sushi's here and apart from Sushi they sell awesome other side dishes. They have so many branches in the CBD itself and I enjoy their Teriyaki Chicken Sushi and Teriyaki Chicken on Brown Rice Sushi.I tried their Spring roll which was also vert tasty. They sell $1 Sushi each deal....which again attracts a lot of Sushi lovers.
One of my other favourite university haunts was Umi and Umiya Sushi located in the Atrium on Elliot foodcourt. A lot has changed in this mall over the years but nice knowing this store is identical to how I remember it. Lots of sushi choice, lots of non-sushi choices, well priced, though the food does rank average at an individual level. For a sushi newbie it’s a fantastic choice with lots of options to please any shade of appetite and you can easily end up paying in the single digits too, which is a boon. The teriyaki glazed and fried things are my recommended picks, and the staple $1 standard sushi rolls are not to be discounted either.
Situated in the food court in Atrium on Elliot, I think this is the biggest store of the Umiya Sushi chain.
There is so much variety and choices, you could have something different every day.
I love how you can just choose whatever you want and make up your own sushi pack.
I also love the sugar coated Japanese donuts near the counter.
Been coming to this place for couple of years now and it's been my fav Japanese cheap eats. Lots of choices, OK quality not the best but then again you pay for what you get... My only concern is that their hot food isn't hot (sort of warm and soggy) but other than that it's great place for quick and cheap meal!
Their sushi are so huge but worth the price. Every time we'd finished a movie, we would walk across the street and get some sushi just for a munch.
This is my go to sushi when I forget to bring lunch and I don't feel like eating porridge I have stashed in my draw.
Bomb ass sushi is all I can say! It's cheap, fills you up and has so much flavor.
Today I got:
Crab sushi $1
Teriyaki sushi $1
Salmon Tempura $2
Honey soy rice balls $1.80
Garlic soy chicken nibble $1
$1 sushi range isn't as large as the store close to AUT, but can't complain. There are a lot of other options (for a bit more $) but they're great if you're wanting food on the go. The crunchy chicken nibbles in spicy sauce was great - not soggy at all but has quite a kick).
Spent $8.00 for this super size Korean style rolled egg loaf. Good taste and good texture. There is a paradise of awesome Korean street food and $1.00 Japanese sushi.
Not the freshest, not the best quality but lots of range, cheap and tasty for what you're paying for. Good for a quick bite if you happen to be shopping in the area and a nice novelty with a lot of inventions I haven't seen before.
You won't leave raving but you won't leave hungry.
I'm quite surprised to see such low ratings for this sushi takeaway.its by any means not a 5-star-luxurious restaurant but really good for finger food snacking if you got a bit hungry.the sushi portions (especially fish component )are big enough and well presented comparing to other sushi places.a big variety of food is another major place.
Wanted to grab something for quick lunch. So thought of trying their range of seafood skewers. I ordered Takoyaki octopus balls, Homemade tartare snapper tempura, Panko crumbed mayo prawns, Seafood mayo crab surimi tempura. All of them tasted good, quantity was good too. Staff was kind and helpful. Will try more of their skewers next time. Thank you.
5 stars for the oden egg on a stick. Only $3 for 2 super tasty eggs, and it comes in a nice little cup of oden soup!
The other stuff doesn't look very good, but would definitely recommend the oden eggs!
Sushi and Japanese food lovers need to come here. Hundreds of menus. Rice or ramen. Drinks also served. Cheap and tasty.
Umi sushi was very polite and had great service. Enjoyed every moment there!
Very friendly service and the udon noodles were delicious!
Prices are super affordable and owner was nice! Portions are not too bad too.
Hands down my favorite sushi spot in Auckland so far. The price is unbeatable and the range of (PYO) sushi is vast, to the point where I struggle to choose what I want. I could eat their sushi every day. Highly recommended.
The option is multiple and the food is yummy and fresh. Moreover, the price is reasonable and they have good customer service. If you want to try Japanese food, this restaurant is highly recommended.
Excellent food, great ambiance, good selection of drinks and fantastic service.
Been going to this place for a while and never been disappointed.
Great selection. Tastes good. Good value for money.
Donburi is very very good value ,only 6 dollars .and fresh sushi only 1 dollar .always be there for my lunch

Very very cheap ! Probably not the best quality of course but it’s cheaper than mc Donald’s and probably more healthy as well so we can’t complain...
This place is great, my daily place for sushi in the city. Friendly staff and great prices.
