Interesting place.
Most flavours were great. Tasty and i felt they wete made using good incridients.
Price is reasonable.
Take away place don't expect any luxuries.
Good effort.
Love this place. The vegan slices are delicious and it's awesome that they have quite a range. It can get a little expensive if you are looking to buy a few slices, and while they are great, I wouldn't visit all the time.
Il Buco Tiny Restaurant located in Ponsonby. Been here after my friends suggestion as she recommended that they serve great pizza and hot chocolate. Being Pizza lover i simply loved their pizza. Really good taste simply delicious. I will definitely go there again. Cheap pricing and great food. Staff is really friendly.

Great and cheap place in Ponsonby to stop for a quick bite. Il Buco is TINY, so takeaway is the best option here. You buy pizzas here by the slice, and by slice I mean squares. This really gives you the chance to try a whole lot of options. They have a really good variety and even a vegan option.
I tried the italian sausage, the stuffed mushrooms and the arancini balls. I would suggest you skip the mushrooms (too much garlic) or the arancini or any other side order and just order their pizzas. For $6 a slice, the pizza is more that just value for money. And its delicious - just the right amount of toppings and cheese.
If you are in and around Ponsonby craving pizza, Il Buco is the place you HAVE to visit.

We stumbled upon this place while walking around Ponsonby. It's small but the sign of best pizza in Auckland was enticing.
We tried 4 different pizza slices and the best one for me was 4 cheeses. It has so much flavour and I liked not having a crush. we also had the meatballs, hawaiian and one with mushrooms. They were all good but the meatball pizza was harder to eat because the meatballs would fall off.
The price was reasonable and you can eat in the outside tables or easily take it home. The service we got was great too. She explained how it works, all the different pizza flavours as it was our first time.
There were a few award stickers on the door too and we now know why.
Thank you for your vegan pizza slices because they are soooooo delicious. And your potato croquettes as well. I love pizza and to get a selection of vegan ones to choose from...is just amazing!
This place is on the main strip on Ponsonby road so it's pretty easy to find. Loads of selection when it comes to pizza ! At $6 a piece it's the perfect little stop for something light or heavy depending on how much you want to eat. The pizzas are really tasty and well grilled. We got a little piece just to try this place out and it was well worth the bite.
We got a coffee, Americana slice ($6) and a couple of sides - potato croquette and suplli ($1 each). All were really nice. Staff seem relaxed and chilled, perfectly normally for the Ponsonby atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves pizza! 🍕
The best coffee ever. Seriously. I don't know why the taste is that different compared to another cafes but it just beats them all. A lot of vegetarian and extraordinary pizza options. Pizza on thin base and delicious. They do catering as well. Staff is very friendly. I pop into this place every time I appear in Ponsonby.
So great to have delicious vegan pizza offered by the slice! Each one I've tried have been incredible!! So good, great wee pizza bar. The only complaint I have is they sell out too damned fast!! Haha which says one thing - they're delicious. I've been a few times and all the vegan slices have gone :( Sad times for this vegan pizza lover.
Popped in for a quick and easy eat-in lunch, though takeaway appears to be their main trade. We got two pieces of pizza, 3 croquettes and 4 mushrooms for ~$20. Lovely crunchy bases in the pizza with lots of flavor in the toppings. Really good value for money. They were happy to make up one piece gluten free in the flavour I wanted, with a short 10 min wait. Friendly relaxed service. Will return when the pizza cravings come!

its just bloody great when u need a lil bite you know. actually its great even if ya starving. its gr8 for all occasions.
there are heaps of flavours i wouldnt pair together but my god theyve done a fine job in making sure its delicious. im just a absolute sucka for a salami or sausage pizza.
my favourite has gotta be the pumpkin, onion and blue cheese pizza.
also the potato croquettes are a bloody dream.
i dont go often but when i do im satisfied everytime thx il buco

Il Buco is the perfect place to satisfy any vegan pizza cravings, there are absolutely delicious! Really well priced for their exceptional quality, and really friendly staff too! :) In the photo, from left to right, I had half a piece of each:
Funghi - mushroom parsley
Americana - onion spinach vegan chorizo mozzarella
Ortolana - potato zucchini onion capsicum
Spinaci E Funghi - mushroom spinach mozarella parmesan olives
Small but with an attitude! Went there for a quick hot choc fix..loved it! Their potato croquette are simply devine! I've found my comfort food heaven in posonby! Gud job.
It was good pizza but I feel like some of them were missing proper flavouring and good spices.
But very quickly made and very efficient.
Also one more thing. The place was too small and is not able to accomodate a larger group so kinda a disadvantage
Il buco is a great lil pizza place in Ponsonby. They have options for meat lovers and vegetarians, with lil nibbles as well. I had four slices, two meat and two vege (broccoli and cheese double crust), and a stuffed mushroom. This filled me up nicely, and left me wanting more.
Nice atmosphere, great service and delicious food. I will definitely be back, especially to try the vegetarian chorizo option.
NZs best and most authentic traditional Roman pizza. Johnny (the owner) is super nice and remembers everyone.
My favourite slices of pizza are the Potato and Rosemary topped with a little sausage, followed a close second by the broccoli and Gorgonzola.
If it's cold or you need something sweet, make sure you order a hot chocolate!! They are the best.

My friend and I had heard lots about the little hole in the wall pizzeria in Ponsonby so we decided to give it a go! Arriving there, it looked like a little fast food pizza joint.
il Buco means "the hole" and is a traditional Roman Pizza all Taglio which literally translates to "pizza by the slice", and that's exactly what you get there. They have about 27 different pizza toppings to choose from - catering to everyone's needs as their pizzas range from vegan to mean. This is awesome to see as most other pizzerias in Auckland do not cater to vegans!
The pizza slices are priced at either $5 or $6 each depending on how many slices you order.v
As mentioned above, it does seem like a little fast food pizzeria so there isn't much seating available. The room inside is used for displaying and sales. The only seating area available are a few tables outside.
My friend and I ordered 2 slices each and we found the taste to be pretty good. Although a little greasy, it was still good.
Overall, Il Buco served up a simple, fresh pizza which was served to us in a jiffy as it only takes about 10 minutes to cook once ordered.
Would recommend if you are in a hurry and are craving pizza!
Great for a quick bite to eat if you're pecking and want something that tastes authentic, really quickly! Their service is fast, there is seating available outside - it's great to sit and watch the hustle and bustle of Ponsonby pass by.
I will definitely be back!
My Mrs and I love the pizza here! Have never had a bad one. Just wish this place catered to take away a little better. I would love to stop after work and take a whole pie home for dinner, however its just too pricy to do that. For now its just a quick bite for us. Service is always good. No complaints about the food. Always lots of good quality toppings.
Great for vegans with a separate section in the cabinet containing at least 6 vegan options. The best is the vegan cheese and chorizo.

it's a very small and narrow place, more seating would be good, but the food itself is great.
Seeing vegan cheese on vegan pizza is such an awesome treat. I wouldn't go here a lot, it's not the cheapest, but it is one of the best.
The non-vegans I have been here with tell me that their meat pizzas are really good too, so that's a plus. Everyone's happy.
The feeling at Il Buco is a bit chaotic. I can imagine the staff get annoyed trying to get through from the kitchen to the small dining area. They do seem on the ball though, I saw them take about 3 peoples orders by memory and get it totally right!
If you're in the area, try it.
This hole-in–the-wall takeaway has been serving up pizzas by the slice on Ponsonby Road for some time. Lots of choices but try Jonny’s recommendation of the Boscaiola - tomato, mushroom, mozzarella, Italian sausage and capsicum. Johnny and his crew make constantly the finest pizzas in New Zealand .The selection is wide and the toppings are made from fresh ingredients.
The authentic imported Italian hot chocolate is wonderful and warming too on a cold winters day

Best good quality pizza in ponsonby, at $6 a slice it's not too cheap but it's also not too expensive after you try it. The house special is the asparagus and brie slice, it redefines pizza. Seriously.
Always a tasty choice with a good selection of vegan pizzas making it difficult to choose sometimes! It is a very tiny place so be prepared to take away if it’s busy.
