Authentic Shanghai food, must try the juicy dumplings, reasonably priced and friendly service
Ordered pan fried bao, steamed bao, youtiao, and congee.
Gave me the wrong bao but oh well. Food was decent anyway.
The congee is not the traditional way but passable.
Food 7.5/10
The price is really good for the amount you got. Dan dan noodles is not the best I’ve had but the amount for the price is great. The pork buns are beyond expectations. It is freshly made and tastes great. Best pork buns in Auckland CBD 🥳
Delicious flavours, fantastic service and the food came out real quick...couldn’t get any better than that. Probably the best pork buns I’ve ever had. The bread was amazing too! It went so well with my beef noodle soup. A must go!
Bad reviews kept me away from trying this restaurant but my friend’s one glowing review convinced me to tried it out for the first time, to my surprise it turned out to be more delightful than I thought it would be. Food arrives pretty fast and the quality of the food fit it’s price. We had their prawn & pork wonton soup; spicy noodles as well as their date soy milk.

My go to place for lunch. It's so close to where I work, which makes it irresistible to walk past. I love the spicy glass noodles, the shape of the glass noodles feel like hand made, not machine made, which makes me appreciate more. Other food are great too! The buns are soft and fluffy, the cold noodles are so flavoursome with their homemade sesame source, pork rib noodles are yum too! I also love their homemade soy bean drink, feels so good to wash down the food afterworlds.

Came here on Sunday lunch time to try a bit of everything. Their menu is simple and service is super fast. You order first when you arrive at the counter so there will be queue but you get your food instantly as you make way to your table. Our total bill was $65. The highlights were wonton in spicy sauce, pork siu mai, walnut soy milk and sauced buns. Beef noodle soup is quite average, might try their dan dan noodles instead next time. And pidan congee could do with more salt, century egg and less corn and bokchoy stems which I find a bit strange. I guess for $5 congee, I should not expect much. Average price for their main dishes about $14 so quite reasonable. Place quite small and busy, so might be harder for bigger group than 4 people to find spaces.
Not a fan of buns but i just love the sour noodle soup, very very yummy and descent.
Nice clean interior, limited choice menu, open plan kitchen - all positive signs. Highly recommend the pork buns. Siu mai were very good but I prefer more prawns in mine. Noodle dishes were fine - but for the price, they needed to be better.
Called in here today (Monday 30 Sept 2019), been past several time & looks interesting, love the prep window, had a yummy bowl of black rice, but will b back. Very clean n modern seating area.
Came in with Jackie for an afternoon tea today because she said that she was hungry. I suggested the sunny town hot and sour noodles because I knew she'd love it and she did. The noodles were cut in a weird shape but the flavour was there. Price was also affordable and cheaper than most places. Today was buy one get one free soya milk. We tried the red date and the peanut ones. Peanut one tasted like the chinese peanut walnut dessert pastes you can normally buy at the asian supermarkets and it was also served cold, which did not help my opinion of it. Red date was quite interesting and really sweet. Would definitely come back to try all the other delicious and affordable menu items.
Five stars all for the fluffy juicy pork buns. I can eat up three trays by myself. Very high quality buns. Other dishes pale besides the buns. Forget the Bun's Hut. This is the real Chinese pork buns.
Went out to lunch here with a friend. You have to order first then take a seat which is a little different to most restaurants. I had the spicy and sour glass noodles can’t say it was amazing but my friend got the beef noodles and that was delicious. Also started with the baos and that made up for it. Was oh so filling next time I think it will just be the baos or the dumplings.

Went out for dinner here, pork ribs noodle and prawn & pork wonton soup and also have steamed pork bun as take away.. delicious meal with very good price.. highly recommend this place
This place has a very Din Tai Fung vibe. At first I thought that the food was pretty pricey but the quality, serving size, ambience and service make up for it in the end. No wonder this place is always packed - their food is amazing!
Tried the soymilk and buns, taste ok. Not as good as in China, but it's in nz, so i can still give 4 stars.
Service is friendly, environment is nice and clean. They always very busy, but service quite fast.
A Chinese restaurant with a more modern style.
Service: 5/10
You order at the counter and find a seat yourself.
The servers that brought the food aren’t particularly polite or anything, I don’t remember much.
The food was made super quickly but most of it is already premade.
Food: 6/10
We ordered the congee, the sauced pork buns, the beef noodle soup and the Dan Dan noodles.
The sauced pork buns were fluffy and had a juicy meat filling which tasted really good.
The beef noodle soup had chewy noodles but the beef wasn’t very tender. The soup was decent but not the best I’ve had.
The Dan Dan noodles just tasted like typical hot oil and was overall pretty average.
Ambiance: 7/10
The light brown wooden furniture and structures throughout the restaurant create a simplistic clean feel.
This place slightly resembles dintaifung back in Taiwan.
The wooden architectural structures hanging from the roof are creative and unique. They also catch your eye while you are walking past and helps differentiate themselves from other typical Chinese restaurants.
It can get quite hot inside the restaurant because of the steam though.
This place is a cleaner version of typical Chinese restaurants which provides a less intimidating environment for foreigners who want to try Chinese cuisine.
Been here twice, love their Spicy and Sour Glass Noodle Soup! Have tried the Sauce Pork Bun and the Black Rice Porridge, both tasted just average. They don’t have a lot of dishes to choose from the menu, so it’s not hard to decide what to have. Great environment, nice deco and clean tables, food takes less than 10 mins to arrive, friendly service, highly recommended for a quick meal.
Great environment, very organised and good services. Foods are delicious and quite lightweight in taste. We ordered the black rice porridge, vege buns, and the prawn wonton. I recommend this place and will introduce to my friends.
Love love love this place - reminds me of a din tai fung with the ladies in the window making bao buns from scratch, super authentic! Had the cold spicy noodles and it was delicious - the whole menu is so reasonably priced and the interior is so stylish. Service is fast and the fast-paced atmosphere makes you feel like you have been transported to Asia. Can’t wait to come back!
Excellent service for a Chinese restaurant which is pretty rare. Food was served super quick. Ordered the pork buns, pork ribs soup, cold noodles and wontons. Cold noodles are especially nice during summer
As a northern Chinese, i don't like buns namally, I wouldn't say I love their buns, but some of the 2 or 3 stars I think they are under dated.
The prawn wonton is exactly same what I will get in my hometown. Light and fragranced broth, pork and prawn fillings inside, with the crash of ginger and white pepper, nice and tender.
I never expect our wonton like the Cantonese style which are full of prawns.
I gave 4stars last time, this time I give 5 stars not because they are perfect on everything, just I think this restaurant worth more than 3.7score🙂
BTW l loved their prawn wontons!!!
noodles are just fine, they are a bit hard and chewy for me, I like soft noodles personally.
We ordered two Dandan Noodles (骨汤担担面) and it was absolutely delicious. We loved everything about the noodles, from the flavours to the texture of the noodles.
Service was extremely friendly and attentive, something I usually don’t have high hopes for Chinese establishments. However, all the staff we passed on our way out smiled at us and made sure to thank and farewell us.
Our noodles only took 5-10 minutes to come out which was very convenient. The layout and decor of the restaurant was beautiful, clean and comfortable.
Sunny town is a popular quick eats restaurant with a simple menu at reasonable prices.
My mother often takeaway their vegetable buns for us and they’re always super soft and freshly made!
They service a number of noodle options including beef noodles and my favourite dan dan mian. The service is very fast, we got our dishes within 10 minutes and the restaurant is also very clean and newly renovated.
Recommended for a quick meal!
Have been here a few times and the service is always very good. The food is always fresh and served quickly. The veggie buns and the spicy cold noodles are amazing!
Fast, clean, delicious. Took me back a bit when they asked us to order before getting a table. The menu is very small but all of the dishes we had were very good. I will be going back.
Loved the dandan noodles here. Noodles had a nice chewy texture and the soup was so flavorsome with a slight numbing taste. Also enjoyed the modern decor. The buns were so delicious and the bread was fluffy!
Came to try this place not too long ago. Service was fast and efficient, we got our order reasonably quickly. Taste wise, the beef noodles was nice and tender while the soybean milk was to my liking. The three choices of flavours for the soybean milk that they had was a definite bonus. The buns were OK but a bit pricy... 10 bucks for 4 buns. There were quite limited options to order from the menu, I would've loved to have more varieties to choose from. Overall this place is not too bad and I personally would definitely try this place again.

Craving for some delicious baos? Sunny Town Chinese Restaurant in Auckland City has the perfect hand made pork and vegetable buns to satisfy your cravings! I highly recommend their pork buns & beef noodle soup if ever you happen to stroll along Lorne Street!
I found the filling of their pork bun to be quite unique in its taste. It’s a lot sweeter than salty in comparison to most pork buns you’ll find in other Chinese Restaurants. Definitely a ‘must try’ in my books!
Their beef noodle soup is probably one of the best ones I have found in Auckland City! Their handmade noodles were cooked to perfection, easy to chew on that paired beautifully with their beef broth packed with flavour!
Overall, this place is very affordable and you get your money’s worth with the big portions of food given! The place is constantly busy every time I visit, so make sure you come off peak times if you’re not someone who likes to wait in line. The service of Sunny Town is not your friendliest, however food is served to you very fast and efficiently. As soon as you’ve ordered and found a place to sit, your food is served to you within a 2-3 min!

Great service. Friendly staff. Fun place to eat. Tidy environment.
The food doesn’t taste as good as the best in China. But it’s not bad chinese food for NZ. No wow factor on taste but good on everything else.
Service: 5/5

The setting of this place is beautiful. Very nice inside and it’s cool seeing the chefs cook. If you want reasonably price and fast food come here for a try. They have a small selection and also do takeaway
Finally we have some authentic Chinese “fast” food here. Fast service and mostly importantly the layout of the shop has a modern touch. Open kitchen gives this place more vibe. Love it.
Came here for dinner, and the first thing you notice is their setup - you order and pay upfront, then get seated and place your little buzzer on a plate that magically sends it's location and attracts food. Well I royally messed that up, but the waitress kindly watched, smiled, and fixed my mistakes. I also couldn't figure out how to order drinks or dessert, but I'm not used to this style of restaurant so it's probably me.
Anyway to the topic at hand, the dumplings were delicious and juicy, just right in my opinion. I got a spicy Dandan Noodle and it tasted great (and spicy), but the noodles weren't as perfect as some other stores.
Overall, a really good restaurant with some great tasting dishes and great value for money. They don't operate like a typical restaurant so you'll face some culture shock if you're not Asian like me, but you'll get over it when you taste the dumplings.
I’ve been a bit intimidated by the long lines here so I haven’t tried it until now, but surprisingly the line moves super fast. It’s a bit different setting to a lot of other restaurants - you have to order the food first then you get a beeper thing that you put on a mat on the table, which tells the waiters where to bring the food. Like others, I thought that we would have to collect the food when it’s ready, food court style, but a waiter told us what to do when they saw we hadn’t placed the beeper properly.
We didn’t expect to order so soon (I thought we were waiting to be seated) so we kinda panic ordered whatever looked decent. We got dan dan noodles, spicy and sour glass noodles and cold noodles. Everything was pretty good, but next time I wouldn’t order the dan dan noodles and glass noodles together since the soup flavour was very similar. Everything tasted pretty good though, especially if you love spicy food like I do.
I saw a lot of other people ordering buns, I wish I had got some too but I’ll definitely try them next time.
The price was not too bad, around $33 total. I remember the dan dan noodles were a bit pricier, like $12 or $13 but the other two dishes we got were less than $10. Would be great for a quick, filling meal.
The service wasn’t amazing but decent enough. It was definitely a super fast-paced vibe, and even though it was really busy at dinner time the food came very quickly. Overall, I would recommend trying this place!
one of the best steam buns in Auckland, just like we had in China, love the vege buns! Cold noddle was testy but the Dan Dan noddle was just so~so, my boy (4yrs) loved the wonton soup,he finished the whole plate by his own. Service was quick and efficient the place was packed but still looked clean and everything in order
Came here for dinner and ordered the siu mai, beef noodles and spicy wontons. The beef noodle soup was tasty and flavoursome and the noodles had a good chew to it. The wontons were fresh and although it looks very spicy, it wasn’t spicy. Just a small amount of heat. The siu mai tasted exactly like the wontons though.
The store is a cool concept and it reminds me of China. Give this place a shot if you are looking for a cheap meal.
Great service and excellent food ! Loved the vegetarian and pork buns , they were fresh and delicious !! A great location for a quick work lunch !
New cool Chinese place in town. Service is fast and the food is sooo good. Definitelt my best place for pork bun so far. Gotta go back again to try other dishes
Their sauces pork bun was super delicious😍highly recommended.
The black rice porridge was too sweet for my taste but still not bad.
Highly recommended for those who love Chinese food.
Checked out Sunny Town tonight and we tried an assortment of buns, siu mais and beef soup noodles. The siu mai was juicy and plump and char siu pork buns are also very flavourful! I'd probably go back to try their wontons!
A very classy but affordable place to eat. We had to wait outside for a few minutes to get in. You can see the how they make the buns through the window. The service was really fast and the food was good!!! Highly recommended!
I enjoyed my lunch here. I feel like i am in China. This place reminded my trip in Hong Kong. Dumpling was nice! noodle was yum not spicy:) wonton soup was just okay. I would love to try 5dollars congee next time. Was amazing Even the alarm !!!
Ordered authentic Dandan noodle. The flavour was good, not too salty. There was not enough pickle. The portion was kind of small.
Simple menu. Order at cash. Pick up bowls/plates and napkins (sauces and chopsticks are on tables, but napkin section does not get filled). Food arrives quickly. Modern, comfortable seating, staff cleans tables promptly. Toilets are clean and well stocked, handicap lavatory has a few touch up issues. Food is very tasty. Dan Dan a little soupier than I like, but with the true flavourful zing of Szechuan pepper, sesame and peanut. Veg Bao remind me of my favourite Buddhist steamed bun shop in Taipei- a half order is two full servings of vegetables! I would definitely return again to taste the cold noodle. The families of Asians who are the majority of customers lend their mark of approval to the product. The staff even thanked me as I left, a small touch that was much appreciated.
The place is clean, the staffs are great, and there are plenty choices.
If you don't know what to order, I recommend try the beef noodle soup (5 ⭐). It's really good, but not that spicy.
If you like spicy, try dandan noodle (4 ⭐).
The service is not that fast tho, but worth waiting
Delicious flavours, fantastic service and the food came out real quick...couldn’t get any better than that. Probably the best pork buns I’ve ever had. The bread was amazing too! It went so well with my beef noodle soup. A must go!
Came here for comfort food - noodle and dumplings. The noodle wasn’t memorable, I thought it could be better. But it’s economical food with 2-3 chunks of beef pieces for only $14.80? Can’t complain.
The dumplings were more memorable as the fillings were freshly made (I don’t think the skin is but the fillings were good). The Sichuan broth is nicer than the plain seaweed (way too plain).
Staffs here expect you to speak in Mandarin just because you look Chinese... And they aren’t friendly. Think of it as a typical fast food joint with zero expectations. You don’t even expect service in McDonald’s anyway, so it’s similar.
Nice & easy menu, went for the beef & rice. Was ok. Served quickly !
Really good for a quick bite. It's an order at the counter and sit down anywhere you like model - aka food court style. The food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. We had the sauced pork buns and beef noodles. Both were tasty. A bit dear at $10 for 4 buns, each small enough to sit snugly in my little Asian palm. The noodle soup was flavoursome, very soft tender beef. You get your own water, cutlery and bowls at their self service counters which are very well stocked
Authentic food, excellent decor, and great service. Sunny Town makes their dumplings fresh and in the open where you can observe. They also have an open kitchen.
The food is delicious, with the perfect mix of spices. Definitely order the steamed dumpling, pork or vegetables as both are yummy. The spicy dumplings are not for everyone, but our daughter loved them.
We loved the bamboo interior with comfortable seats. The service is prompt and friendly.
So awesome to see an open dumpling kitchen layout in town! A very asian style look and definitely attracts people in. The dumpling baos were indeed very soft, and as an asian it met all my expectations. The noodles were also very nicely balanced and if you're into spicy food i definitely recommend it. Very comfortable seating and generally good atmosphere.
Wow wow wow.... This is going to be my new go to & we only tired two things of the menu...
The flavours of the shumai are out the gate 🤯 so amazing. Staff are awesome so friendly and the service is fast.
Absolutely beautifully crafted pastry that you can watch being made at the window as you enter.
Can't wait to try the soups. Will definitely be back.
I've been here 3 times already in 3weeks of auckland trip. This place is quite promising as u can see lots of customers everyday too.
Anyway, talking about food. Shomai was little dry and too big. However Wonton soup was cooked by very clear taste of broth which very ideal, inside of wonton u can taste shrimp and pork which exactly same thing in shomai. Order wonton soup if u like dumplings.
Spicy and sour glass noodle was good too but it sometimes undercooked or too sour, u can ask to adjust taste when u order.
Nice noodles and dumplings. Price isn't so bad. Clean and tidy. There're heaps of tasty Chinese restautant in the town but if you are looking for a good food AND CLEAN place, this should be the one.
It's now "Bao & Noodles" and definitely hit the spot! We were mesmerized watching them make dumplings in the storefront window. Delicious dim sum served up lightning fast in a fresh modern decor. Get a double order at least of the pan fried dumplings. Yum!
Nice location, hygienic, reasonable price. Tasty pork buns, freshly steamed and served. Glass windows showing the food being made. Will try more more food again. Recommend!
Delicious authentic dishes. We love the soup dumplings, and they have amazing soy and nut milks. Restaurant decor was cute and clean. One can find street parking right in front for a fee per hour.
Best buns ever, especially the vegetarian one. Top tier noodles as well. The menu is small but they do everything to perfection.
