It's very rare for me to actually find something spicy as my spice tolerance level is high. But if you are like me and ask for chilli sauce or powder everywhere you go, then try their dumplings in chilli oil- it's fantastic!! I tried the Vege dumplings and they were wonderful. The size of these dumplings is astonishing- combine about 4 of the normal sized dumplings to make one of these! Really good value for money! Eager to go back and try other dishes!
Foods were average. The lady in the counter doesn't smile much though.
A small cosy place in Takapuna. Came here after seeing lots of recommendations and was not disappointed. We ordered dan dan noodles and dumplings in spicy sauce. The noodles were delicious and had a nice peanutty flavour. Portion size was huge and definitely worth the price. The dumplings were also quite large and very cheap for the serving size. Taste however was average. Service was okay. Overall, this is a nice place to visit if you’re looking for delicious, cheap noodles!
Have been dreaming about these dumplings ever since our first visit. Dumplings are thick and delicious, almost like a cross between dumplings and a steam bun. We had fried dumplings, dumplings with spicy sauce and spicy sour noodle soup. Dunked the fried dumplings into the noodle soup which was delicious. We said medium spicy but it was way way too much chilli for us to handle so will say mild next time. Enjoyed takeaway at home as the place is small and very busy (I can see why!) Don’t bother with dominion road, come here instead, highly recommended.

I was extremely surprised with the portion sizes they were amazing!!! And the food itself was so damn good. I ordered the noodle soup - beef and my mates order other dry noodles. We also had dumplings and man were they divine.

There chicken dumplings were amazing and the sauce tha it came dipped in already is to die for! Just so amazing - the hot chilli soy sauce is perfectly balanced. Totally recommend this place. I really love their noodles and dumplings. I always get Dan Dan Noodles with Pork. They are so generous with their portion size, even the small size is quite big, so I always leave this place feeling so full everytime. The fried dumplings are also very nice, with the bottom beong crispy and the top being chewy. Every time you bite into it the juices from the meat fillings pops inside your mouth!
Went there last night for dinner. Dan dan noodle with pork was pretty nice. Spicy dumpling is my favorite one. Always gave me the satisfaction. However water cup was greasy, table wasn’t even wiped out. But i still like this place
My husband and I love basu lounge. The service is great and the food is delicious! The Dan Dan noodles are my favourite. They’re creamy and spicy and full of flavour, the noodles are perfectly cooked every time too. We also get the dumplings which are huge and tasty. Beef noodle soup is full of flavour and the beef is super tender. Great prices too. Highly recommend!
I had the Stewed Pork Noodle Soup which was such good value. Only $9 for a small! However, I must say that the taste was more or less average. I would have liked more flavour in general.
I absolutely LOVE this place. Was there twice in a week and that means something! I am a vegetarian and it's been a struggle finding tasty veggie dumplings in Auckland. But this is the place to go if you are craving wholesome, filling and delicious Asian food especially their dumplings. The staff is super helpful and cheerful. It's a tiny tiny restaurant which is busy during lunch hours.
We tried the sweet and sour veggie noodle soup and veggie dumplings in spicy sauce and they were simply kick-ass!!! Just a note for people who enjoy spicy - you will die with their level of spice. My whole face was burning after I ate the spicy sauce but it was so worth it that we again and 2 big bowls which surely killed us the next day but again worth it. Just be really careful when ordering spicy food. It is truly very very veryyy spicy!

My new favourite is from their Rice Noodle Soup section (last page of the menu), the Hot and numbing beef rice noodle soup. Lots of beef, the taste is not as spicy but still leaves a numbing taste. There is a bit of salty soy sauce taste but not that bad.
Pork + Chives Dumplings are a must order to share. They are thick outside and juicy inside. Their dan dan noodles are nice too, they are the dry types. I’ve recently become a fan of the cold noodle as it doesn’t leave you feeling hot and flustered after eating hot Chinese food. Their dishes are cheap with large portions.
If you're after a casual cheap meal this is the place to go, but as this place is small during peak hours expect a small waiting list. We waited around 15 minutes one time but they also let you pre-order so you can get your food as you sit down.
Ambience is not the best but food is out of the world. I tried chicken dumplings and fried rice. I have been there many times and every time it's the same amazing taste. If I am craving dumplings or Chinese, this is my place to go!
A small place with very nice noodle at decent price. I'd definitely come back to eat Dan Dan noodle again (reckon the best Dan Dan noodle around)

in northshore when I had gone for some work on a weekend. It was fully packed so
decided to wait and try it out.
I must say the food tasted really
good. Me and my partner ordered a plate of dumplings (chicken and Vege) each
along with a shredded potato salad. One of the dumplings was pan fried and
other was in spicy sauce. We did order it medium spicy but it was still on the
spicier side for us. The most striking feature of the dumplings was its size. They
were huge dumplings !!! especially compared to ones you find on dominion road.
The ratio of the dough and filling was good for the both the dumplings. The
potato salad also tasted really nice.
The price point is similar to the
other dumpling places across Auckland. I will surely be back try out the other
dumplings and the noodles which I believe they are more famous for. There is no free parking so you need to be
mindful of that.
This is my favourite cheap eats place. The beef noodle soup with just a little spice is my go to (medium spice is too much for me, the heat builds up the more you eat) and the pork and chive dumplings pan fried are flavourful, juicy, and decent size.

My long time favourite Chinese Noodle Restaurant in Takapuna.
Its normal for people to frown and walk pass a restaurant when you smell really strong oriental food at a shabby takeaway looking places like this.
I did as well when I first saw this place.
(They kinda refurbished the whole place few years ago)
When I first tried their noodles i didnt really like it so I walked out of the restaurant with no satisfaction. Next day I started craving for these noodles as if i was addicted to their noodles.
(They might be using drugs.. this is how good they are)
This was about 6 or 7 years ago, I still go at least once a month.
Dandan noodle and cold noodle + dumplings as usual.
Their side menus and noodle soups are awsome too!
It's really satisfying how they manage to maintain their taste for such a long time.
When I was really addicted I used to go at least 3 times a week, even by myself.
Hands down the best comfort food in Auckland 💗
Ambience: the restaurant is quite small and has limited seatings. It was clean with warm lighting tone.
Service: mainly self-service for everything. The food will of course be brought to your table and they came out pretty fast.
Food: The beef noodle soup is a MUST for me. The broth was clear and tasty while the beef was so tender. The other side dishes we ordered were the Marinated pork backbones and pork hock slices with cucumber salad. They were all excellent.
Highly recommended this place for hearty winter meals 😋

Absolutely loved their tantan noodles. They looked a little different to the other noodles that I had in other shops but told this style was from a different place in China. Totally recommend this place for people who love hot spicy food too :) (you can also get mild or no spice at all too)

We had the large dan dan noodle with pork, I can see why this is everyone’s favourites. Definitely a good value for money considering its portion.
The place is quiet small, so expect to be on the waiting list if you are coming in during lunch and dinner time.
food was good for me! I got the spring onion noodles which was really good! The portion sizes are great for the price! However, my friend got the dandan noodles which tasted very peanut buttery which is kind of weird?? She is chinese and she said she'd never tasted any dandan noodle like it. She was not a fan.

• spicy and sour noodle soup (small) - I didn't want spicy food but love sour, so I asked if it could be made without the chilli. The owner said it could and it was still delicious so I got it. I would've preferred a bit more sour, and much less white pepper as the pepper taste was very strong and made the soup "spicy" more than a chilli spice. Some of the cabbage was a bit undercooked and made the cabbage flavour too strong when chewing into it. Good portion.
• beef noodle soup (large) - this was delicious, very rich flavour and tender meat.
The venue is quite small, approx 10 two seater tables. Owner was very lovely and seemed to have great friendly manner with all customers, even the ones with loud kids who were making mess.
I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. The dan Dan noodles are a personal favorite of mine, as well as the beef noodle soup. One tip, the "small" sized items are usually still quite filling, so don't make the mistake of ordering too much, although it isn't necessary a bad thing here
Ventured over the bridge to Takapuna for meetings today and had lunch at Basu Lounge with a colleague. I picked Wontons with chilli sauce🌶️ and my friend chose dumplings. Love the medium heat but man I am now desperate for a cold drink! 🥢🥟🥤😅 Must try other things on the menu next time too!

Hands down, best on the north shore for dumplings! Was put onto this spot a few months ago and has become one of the main go to’s! Haven’t eaten in (as the space is small and usually full) but they take phone orders so it couldn’t be more simple. The beef noodle soup is a winner as well as the fried dumplings.
Food was amazing with friendly staff. The food portions were generous and relatively cheap. Would recommend this place and i can guarantee you will not leave feeling hungry!

For sides we ordered the mixed vege salad and the pork hock with cucumber.
They were both so good but I like the salad more since it’s quite vinegary which is nice to much on in between the noodles.

If only there was 4.5 stars, because that’s what I would’ve gone for instead. The half star I would’ve taken off is that their level of spicy isn’t always consistent. I’m struggling so badly with the dumplings in spicy sauce tonight because I ordered my usual medium but holy....🔥🔥🔥 I’ve managed three dumplings followed by a giant glass of juice to take the heat off.
But aside from that, I love everything I’ve had at Basu Lounge so far. Their noodles are delicious, their sauces are addictive, and they make some of the biggest, juiciest, and delicious dumplings I’ve had in Auckland. I know everyone goes nuts for the old staples like Barilla Dumplings and New Flavour (although I suspect there are many non-Asian diners who kind of just hop on the bandwagon and rave about them without having much to compare to and base their raves on...hipsters of Dominion Rd, I’m talking to you.) But the dumplings at Basu have the perfect dumpling skin to filling ratio, and the dumpling dough isn’t dry or rubbery. GET THE DUMPLINGS. You can ask for the littlest amount of spice possible, so even if you’re not into a bit of heat in your food, you must try the dumplings in spicy sauce. It’s got the right amount of soy sauce and other ingredients that makes the sauce so delicious, so don’t let the name put you off. I sometimes pop some noodles in the left over sauce, too.
I’m a fan of their noodles. I do admit that I don’t know whether they make their own noodles or not, but every single noodle dish I’ve had, I’ve liked. These guys know how to make simple (not necessarily in skill but more in that it’s unpretentious and comforting) food taste good.
The staff are polite - although we’ve only ever had the food takeaway. But they are always friendly at the counter and are no nonsense about their service.
I do recommend the Takapuna branch over Browns Bay though. The Browns Bay branch is a bit more spacious, but having had the same dishes, I think the Taka chefs are better. Sorry, BB chefs!
We ordered the Pork Rib and Pickle Noodle Soup (排骨炸菜面) and the Dan Dan Noodle with Dumplings (担担饺子面).
I absolutely loved the pork rib noodle soup, the ribs fell straight off the bone, the texture of the noodles were perfect and the broth was flavourful and aromatic.
The dan dan noodles are one of their best sellers so I guess I’m in the minority when I say they really didn’t match my preferences. It just felt like I was eating noodles slathered in peanut butter. It was also a bit difficult to mix as the sauce was place at the bottom, I think it would be more convenient and aesthetically pleasing if they poured the sauce over the top instead. The dumplings on the other hand, were wonderful.
This place is very busy so make sure you avoid peak lunch and dinner times if you can.
Fast and friendly service was also a plus.
Food is always amazing, would recommend Dan Dan, dumplings in spicy sauce and mixed veggie salad! The noodle soups are really good too. Great comfort food for a really affordable price.
This place is always busy - be careful with the spices, cos medium is ALMOST as if it's REALLY HOT. Apart from that I LOVE THEIR DANDAN noodles & dumplings! Best time to order is after 1PM 😊 but very nice, asked them to only put a little bit of spice and it was such a nice kick!l have had the Dan Dan noodles with pork (pork mince) so you are aware if you want to purchase this next time - AMAZING AND FRESH!!!
Love their spicy noodle !! You can choose the spiciness of your food and I always ask them to make it as spicy as possible and they are so good !
I visit Basu Lounge on a weekly basis - amazing friendly staff, and cheap delicious food. As so many have pointed out, their signature Dan Dan noodles are not to be missed. The dumplings are also second to none, the food is hard to fault. Highly recommend.
Great value and very friendly. The Dan Dan noodles are yum. Even though I like spice I always get mild and it's just right.
The chicken flavoured soup is a little thin, do like the added seaweed and cabbage though.

Our favourite is always the dumplings with spicy sauce - medium or hot. Proper spicy - real chilli sauce (not toned down for Westerners at all, genuinely spicy). Big dumplings with flavoursome fillings. Best filling is pork and chives.
Dan dan noodles is also amazing. The sauce is a peanut-based sauce but not satay sauce. Super yummy (this dish is spicy as well).
Love the cucumber salad and the mixed vegetables salad - great complement to the spicy dumplings.

Can't come to this place and not try their famous Dandan noodles. Very tastebud stimulating and delicious. Interior is quite compact and gives off a very traditional and authentic vibe. Go-to meal for me would be the Dandan noodles with dumplings and with a side of beef and celery salad, which has a nice acidic component to cut the richness of the noodles. A must try!

I personally love the 酸辣粉 (spicy and sour vermicelli) from Basu Lounge and their famous 担担面 (dan dan noodles). I’m not even a fan of peanut flavoured things, but they do it so well!
One thing I didn’t like about the 夫妻肺片 (beef and tripe salad) was that they put waaaay too much celery in it and not nearly enough meat.
Fairly low price for large portions, cheaper than a lot of other Chinese restaurants.

They just opened in Browns Bay. Ate lunch today. Staff were really lovely. Huge portions of food. Pork and chive dumplings are really good. Will definitely be a regular for us now.
Such a lovely homey feel to the place. The dan dan noodles are the best! A small bowl is enough to fill me up, but if I had a bigger stomach I’d definitely eat more. The wonton soup is also very warming.
We had pork and chive dumplings in hot spicy sauce...They are the best dumplings you can get in Auckland! I will have to go back to try some of the other dishes but if you fancy some dumplings and like spice - this is the place to go!

We ordered two reasonably sized noodles (炸酱面& 球球面加猪肉) and a soya milk for $19.50.
Both of the noodles were really tasty and the staff were pretty friendly when taking the food over.
When we went in the person at the desk didn't acknowledge us at all. I don't mind that too much considering the food was really tasty and one of the big bowls of noodles was just $7.50. Like you can't get much cheaper than this.
The food safety rating is a B so that scared my partner a little bit but I'm feeling perfectly fine today :)

I finally visited this place! After my first trial of Dandanmen at Eden noodle cafe, I have become a huge fan of it. Many friends of mine recommended this place for dry dandanmen.
My first impression was wow this doesnt taste like Chinese food at all. It kinda tastes like fusion dish but it is damn delicious. I finished the whole bowl.
I want to describe the flavour as Asian bolognese spaghetti! It is nutty with peanut sauce and it has plentiful mince inside!

The best cold noodle dish I have had the pleasure of enjoying in Auckland. I wish thei opening times were as consistent as the quality of their dishes. You might as well visit a fortune teller to assess whether this place is going to be open or not.
Stop by as there was not much on offer on the second day of the NY but left very impressed. Had the small bowl option of Hot/Sour Vege noodles and asked for extra Hot option and got what i asked for. Also got the cold chicken noodles was told that was yummy. Other items were the dumpling noodle soup and a small plate of fried dumplings. All went very well. Prices were very reasonable and this is definitely a GO AGAIN place. Place is smallish but service was good and meals came out fast and tables rotated frequently.
Seriously good, seriously tasty. Entree salads are a particular treat. Try the mushroom ones. Dumplings are gorgeously fresh. I recommend this place without reservation. It's one of our regular eateries. Our three-year-old loves it, too.

Bloody amazing. For entree definitely get the mung bean jelly, tastes absolutely spectacular. All of their noodles are absolutely delicious and in generous portions. It is very cheap for the taste and quality. I definitely recommend the dan dan noodles which are in a peanut butter sauce. This place is probably the best Chinese noodle place in New Zealand. Wonderful friendly service and order quickly taken. Salads came out quickly and were delicious and fresh (agaric with vinegar and cucumber with pork). Noodle soup was spot on and dumplings were made to order... little mouthfuls of heaven. Tiny wee place so get in early. Their takeaway is equally as good but I love those dumplings fresh from the pan.
Taste: I find this place to be on the spicier end of the spectrum. However you do get the choice of mild, medium and spicy. I would highly recommend their pork and cucumber salad!

Went there today on a rainy day and ordered the pork and chives dumplings in spicy sauce, it couldn't have been a more perfect dish for the weather!
The dumplings were generous and full of flavour, with the sauce having the perfect balance of spicy, salty and sour. Eating it together tasted amazing and even though I was full I wanted another bowl of it.
My friends got the spicy beef noodle soup and wonton noodle soup, both of them loved their dishes too!

Woah! The pork and chive dumplings with chilli sauce was such a cracker!! Yummmooo!!!! Such a small place defs recommend takeaway. Also had their hot and sour vermicelli and it was also nice. Mild spicy has some kick - don't get too cocky because it could hurt you the next day.

However they are always packed at lunch time. Dan dan noodles is an awesome combination of noodles mixed with cabbage in a rich and gooey sesame sauce. The right level of spice also gives a kick and after taste.
The only thing that I didn't like about Basu was their wontons, which all had ripped open skins and meat falling out...although the flavour was still amazing!
I ordered the beef noodle soup and some dumplings. For $15, I had to take some of the dumplings home. The beef in the noodle soup was marinated deliciously. The dumplings were okay but probably not as good as the homemade one. Due to mass production, the dumplings I tried were a bit thick on the wrappings and a bit doughy. Perhaps I'm a pedantic foodie. For that price, I shouldn't have asked for more quality. Please note that the restaurant is always full at lunch time. There are sometimes queues in the restaurant. The best time to go is probably before 12 noon.
This style of Chinese food is the best. I love the fresh salads, we had the Cucumber and Enoki mushroom salad.
The dan dan noodles with pork was different to any other dan dan noodles I have had. The sauce was a lot more peanut-like similar to satay sauce but not as sweet.
The oriental noodles were good too but was more like the usual fried noodles that you get.

We've dined at Basu Lounge too many times, and have totally forgotten to review it.
It seems that this restaurant has been here for ages. A couple of doors beside Coffee Club at Taka.
We always go there for the Dan Dan Mien with Pork (Regular $9, Small $7). I would have to say that there's not much of toppings, but man! the peanut sauce infused with chilli and whatever not in the bowl of homemade noodles is addictive!
Please be really caution of the level of spiciness. Mild is already quite spicy for me (I normally do Medium for Thai food).
The dumpings are good, but I think that the skin of the dumpings are a little too thick to my liking.
Other than that, the guys have tried (and love) the spicy beef noodle soup. (Yes! Super spicy!)
Interestingly that this little place is always packed with customers! Great for max 4/5 people in a group.
This place is small and crowded. Their serving size is quite large and they sure know how to make a good noodle! I also tried some of their rice dishes and was not disappointed. This is a great place to eat!
Despite its small size, they served a YUM dan dan noodle. I ordered the hot dan dan noodle with pork, and yea they are REALLY spicy! And the one with pork is definitely better than the regular noodle without pork. The wonton in spicy sauce was nice as well.
The service was okay, but sometimes some waitress can't speak English fluently so be prepared for that. The price was really friendly to me, quite affordable with such a moderate portion of the meal.
Definitely come back here again whenever I miss dan dan noodle.
yum. Loved their vegan dumplings. Always packed which means it must be good. Service is good. Food is fast. Large portions. Amazing pricing. Can not fault.
Always busy and know the reason why always lots of people there. My favorite is 'dumpling noodle soup' and 'Dandan dumpling soup'. Yummy!!!!!
I've always walked past this placed and its always rammed (got to be a good sign) Went in tonight and what a great little Noodle and Dumpling place - ITS CHEAP AS CHIPS!!!
The wonton soup ($10) was bloody good, great spice, good pork dumpling size....soooo getting my winter chubby ass there again!!!!
Finally tried out the highly recommended Dan Dan noodles (in spicy) and boy was it worth it for only $6! Got a side of dumplings for $10 which was a steal considering the quality and size of them! Highly recommended!
Had the Dan Dan Noodles. They are wonderfully inauthentic (compared to the stuff in Sichuan). Noodles are well cooked and come in a sticky and spicy sauce, with a nice peanut buttery-ness. Absolutely delicious.
Decor is very chinese and cramped, but understandable for such a small place. Service is above average.
We had the Dan Dan noodles and the sauce was very tasty. The only thing is that the noodles can be a bit starchy. Dumpling skin is also a bit thicker than expected. Saw other people eating the glass noodle type dishes so will give it a go next time. People working at the place was very friendly and warned us about the spiciness of the dishes.
The best dumplings!! Don't be put off by the first sight of this place. Service is very friendly and food is delicious. Most dishes can be made less spicy. Personal favourites are the fried vegetarian dumplings, mushroom salad, and the cucumber tofu salad.
My friends and I tried this place this afternoon for the first time and it was such a great experience. The service was super friendly that we warmed up to the place. Food was cheap but amazing flavours. Dan dan noodles are so yum and the dumplings are big and juicy, really love the vegetarian ones. Overall, a great place to eat with friends even though it gets busy in the afternoon and its small. Food was so simple yet flavours are great, its pretty cheap too. Great comfort food :D
Thanks to the two reviewers before us. We took your recommendations and ordered the cucumber salad, Dan Dan Noodle with Pork and Dumplings in Spicy Sauce all at Medium heat. YUM! YUM! YUM! It was just the right amount of spice. great flavour and super tasty. We cant wait to go back again. The lovely waitress proudly said that they make everything on site, and it really showed. A great little place to eat.
The only room for improvement is in the drinks area. But otherwise a great place to eat.
Hot and Spicy Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles are just the best ever!

Tiny but busy!
Sichuan cuisine is all about spicy food, but both of us can't actually take hot/spicy food lol! We ordered mixed vegetable salad, cucumber salad, beef & celery dumplings and chicken noodle soup ( no spicy!). Food was quite good, love the salad ! Seriously, much better than the Caesar salad! but not much different from those Sichuan restaurants in Dominion road~ it could be better if we had something spicy and hot? Maybe?
Great little hole in the wall place to get flavourful noodle or dupling dishes cheap. Food here is great value for money and the portion sizes are massive. For the 16 bucks i paid, i got the massive bowl of dan dan noodles and mince in the videos and pics i posted. The noodles were filling and flavourful, and im definitely coming back next time im in takapuna
I tried the dan dan spicy noodle soup... Its very authentic. Travelled from Otara to try these noodles I googled the best Sichuan noodle soup restaurants in Auckland and this is definitely up there with Xian food bars. Thanks for the experience. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves spicy noodles.
Love the dan dan pork noodles here. The whole gang and I come here for these noodles almost every other week.
They are traditionally spicy noodles, so even their “mild spicy” is your average medium spicy.
Definitely recommend it! Dumplings taste average.

my favorite Dan dan noodles!!! I love both hot and cold one. Dumpling and other salad is also awesome! Because all food is fantastic, others don't bother me at all!
Food was delicious and came in literally 5 minutes and there was four dishes! Lovely service, definitely coming back.
Not a big place, but enough to sit down have meal.
Not suggesting for group more than 4 people, would be hard to sit down.

Best dandan noodles in the city. Very authentic. Have to be careful with the heat, as the medium is quite spicy already - especially if you're not get used to Asian spicy level. Their portions are quite generous. Their dumplings and cold appetisers are quite good too. The place is very small, and can be quite hot in the summer. Parking are on the street which can be quite challenging in Takapuna.

Delicious dan dan noodle with mince pork as well as chicken salad. The portions are very generous in this restaurant. Make sure you have enough space. :)
Visited on weekday at noon, 75%fully occupied. Only one staff serving, taking orders, setting up the tables etc.
I have ordered wonton noodle and waited for 20 minutes for my noodle to come. Its a big big portion. I would said that it's not wonton and actually dumpling.
Food is special here. Simple and delicious flavours. Restaurant is tired inside but it’s all part of the vibe. They do takeaway as well.
First time trying this place, great food. Dan Dan noodles where fantastic would be 5 stars if had a little more peanut sauce on them.

The Dandan noodles taste amazing, come in a massive portion and cost only $12 - $14 depending on if you want meat or not.
I've never been dissapointed. Just make sure to say "Not spicy" instead of "mild" if you don't like spicy food :)
Decor in this place isn't the greatest but the value for money greatly makes up for it.
