This is where. Lot of my work colleagues and myself go for a coffee catch up with someone. They have a range of very good teas and I always enjoy having their coffees
Great place for a brunch, I loved the floor to ceiling glazing which looks out to the view of queen st. We ordered the omelette, and they were delicious. I'm looking forward to try out different foods next time.
The food never disappoints. On the higher end of the price range compared to other options nearby if you order from the menu, but the cabinet options are just a delicious at a lower price point alternative. Can’t go wrong with the food here!
The iced chocolate is ok. The chocolate used it great quality, but the consistency is not as thick as I would have preferred.
The food can take a while to come out but proves to be worth the wait.
Staff could be friendlier. But there is a high standard of service overall.
I think this might be one of my favourite hidden away cafes in city. It is located on the corner of queen street and a nice place to chill/hide away from the busy city.
They have a variety of nicely presented cabinet foods and the staff are always really nice.
I like the atmosphere of this cafe, with floor to ceiling windows which gives you a great view!
Today was the second time dining at The Lunchroom and I still have to say that its amazing. We ordered the Kumara wedges, Pork belly and Squid ink Pasta. There was a slightly wait on the food but we were able to get our iced coffees very fast. Definitely will be coming back to this cafe.

Went for coffee on a Wednesday around 9.30. Location and cafe interior very nice. Open, fresh with lovely views.
However the cafe itself seems quite pretentious. On its website it says bookings essential. That’s a tad off putting but we decided to wing it anyway and there was plenty of seating. Flat white came with lovely artwork on top but was luke warm and nothing to shout about. Told our table waiter this (in a nice way). Our table wasn’t paid any attention after this and had to get up to order another drink. This time getting a ginger and honey tea which was excellent.
Nice surroundings but this cafe thinks it’s better than it actually is with its booking system and pricing if it is only going to deliver average goods.
I only just discovered the Lunchroom recently-it's a hidden gem on Queen St! It's the perfect place for lunch in the CBD with floor to ceiling windows and a lovely outlook of the street. The cafe itself feels very spacious making it super comfortable to dine in. Food was perfect (forgot to take photos😩), quite highly priced but that's to be expected in an exquisite cafe like this. Will definitely be back ☕️🙌
Service: we came for lunch on Friday but the place was not very busy. I made a reservation so we got seated right away. The service was excellent, very quick and friendly. Staff was super attentive and water got refilled a few times. Food came shortly after ordering.
Ambience: The place is spacious and has a lot of light, plus a nice view of busy Queen Street.
Price range: A little more expensive but given the experience I think it’s worth it.
Food: I had the Fettuccine with rocket salad, prawns and chorizo. My friends ordered Chicken curry, Granola, Pancakes and Omelette. Everything came out at the same time and was presented nicely. My fettuccine was amazing and very fulfilling. The portion between pasta and prawns and sausages was just right. All my friends were happy with what they had as well.
Overall, satisfied and would definitely come back 😊
Awesome place that allows you to relax while watching the busy-ness of the central city. Spacious, light, the most amazing menu selection ever - exquisite coffee, food, service. Staff are friendly, relaxed and eager to please. An oasis in a concrete jungle.
The location is good. I have passed by there so many times, not knowing there is a cafe upstairs. Got full view of britomart. The brunch is in large size. A bit salty for me. Price is a bit high.
There aren't many places in Auckland where you can eat while having views of Queen Street as well as the port! Located in one of the famous streets skyscrapers, you'll find The Lunchroom ☕️. The atmosphere is a Scandinavian lovers dream, you will be in Icelandic heaven ❄️. Large wall to floor windows will bring light to your meal and your mindset. The service is above the Auckland average and the menu is exactly what you would expect for the modern businessman/woman's lunch. Wagyu and scampi on your plate for brunch? Yes please 🙌🏻. The food is slightly overpriced but the taste is definitely on point. Overall I would recommend The Lunchroom for business meetings and 'boujee' student catch ups.
Absolutely perfect place for city lunch. Beautiful view to busy Queen st in a clean building. Open kitchen so you can watch them cook. The pasta is amazing. Definitely coming back for more
I've only ever had coffee here and it's always on point.
I love the consistently great service, the staff are really quick and professional, friendly but not intrusive. Always water on your table, lots of space and just a really nice vibe.

This cafe has some of the coolest views in the city. Located right if the corner of queen street, above the ANZ bank... you get to watch the hustle and bustle of the city while you kick back with a flat white. Better yet, grab a quick breakfast to kick start a busy day at work or uni!
The lunchroom is a great place for (yes u guessed it, lunch). Great views, awesome staff and most importantly great food. Their cabinet selection and kitchen selection is equally good - I highly recommend trying their beef pie (they really use some high quality meat in that - no bad stuff!), deep fried squid or their Kumar's fries - their dip is to die for.
The kitchen food is a bit more pricey than other cafes, but you're definitely getting what u pay for. Cabinet food on the other hand is more on the average price range - so if ur feeling a bit thrifty but still want good food, get something from there.
loved it. coffee perfect and fast. i reordered the Manchago, prosciutto & salsa verde on bagel straight after demolishing it the first time
Really lovely little haven, lovely staff, delicious food. This place was recommended to me by a lady in the bank below it. So happy I found it. Did I mention wonderful views? Thank you!
Have eaten here a few times now, twice from the menu and once from the cabinet and have had beautiful food every time. Great service, and open sunny venue make it the perfect place for a weekday lunch.
This place is wicked. Overlooking Queen Street you can people watch to your heart's content. The staff are incredibly friendly, you can see your food be made right in front of you and the coffee is good too. I would recommend getting a bite to eat while you're there.
The Lunchroom had a nice and clean interior with a vibe veering towards corporate Auckland. We entered at 1230pm in the middle of the week and were a little surprised how empty the place was but by 115pm it was starting to get busy, busy (my wife and I are from Sydney and it's busy, busy here all the time).
We ordered a few dishes --
Prawn Pasta - the pasta was delicious with a floury doughy texture to the fettucini. The sauce was nice and robust with a balance of chilli, parmesan cheese and garlic. Prawns were nicely cooked. The Rocket added a refreshing pepperiness to the dish.
Burger - the wagyu patty was so juicy! Instead of brioche bread I had turkish bread which the super friendly staff were happy to fix up for me. Really nicely toasted, soft on the inside, a little crusty on the outside. Lettuce and tomato were really fresh. A delicious burger overall! The purple Kumera chips, were sweet and starchy with a great bite.
Coffees were strong and earthy, just the way I like it.
The only downside of The Lunchroom was the price. It's really on the more expensive side but I gather the target are the high rolling corporate figures of the CBD. Service was warm and friendly. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
A gourmet lunchtime experience. It'd be a wonderful business meeting place over exceptional meals and drinks but not really a work day lunchtime option. Many tables are reserved so the wait time to get a place plus the cooking time until your food comes will take all of your lunch hour. Plan in advance before coming here. Enjoyed a view over Queen St and the crossing, it's good for people watching while having the warm sun streaming through. Lovely meals, I would call this place a restaurant rather than a cafe.
This is a fantastic cafe-cum-restaurant. Excellent, very fresh food; great coffee; lovely views from massive windows; and above all, outstanding service! I returned here three times during my 10 day visit to Auckland, based mostly on the warm welcome I received my first visit, and this was repeated on each subsequent visit. The food was a cut above too, and when they were out of vegetarian sandwiches, one was made to order for me. Despite the loud squeals of joy being emitted from my young baby girl (she too was a fan of this venue!), I wasn't made to feel bad, or that I needed to quiet her down. I highly recommend The Lunchroom!
Nice place for business meeting - spacious and bright. It has nice view and the food was great. Nice healthy selections too. They also have lots of choices in the display cabinet. Staff are great, helpful and friendly. Thank you
Went her for lunch while I was on break at work. It's really close to Britomart but not a lot of people know about this place because it's located inside a building. The restaurant is very spacious and the glass walls makes dining even better with a really nice view of the buildings and even the sea. I also like how the chef cook the dishes right in front of you, and their service is on point. Although I do think that their menu is very limited, and they can improve their coffee a bit more
Bored of your office lunch room? Head into the CBD's very own office lobby cafe. Located on the first floor of a 15-storey high-rise, you may be excited at the prospect of dining with a view, until you realise all you can see is the dreary meanderings of the downtown Queen Street pedestrian crossing. However, the interior is captivating enough; pristine, luxurious and a prime view of the cook. For lunch I was tempted by the pork belly ensemble, which was delightful for the 1st quarter, but then got much too heavy due to a meat + sweet potato overload. Though my mocha was fantastic. Also if you want to fit in with all the fancy corporate types that dine here, byo smartphone and snobby attitude.
We had a thirty minute lunch break and decided to come here because it was close to where my friend worked. I just wished we had enough time to properly sit down and enjoy our meals without being rushed for time!
The interior at The Lunchroom is absolutely gorgeous. The decor is modern and the restaurant is so well lit (perfect for food photos hehe).
We decided to get food from the cabinet because we were short on time! Unfortunately there weren't as many choices in the cabinet as I would've liked, so I settled for the chicken slaw baguette. Cathy got the bacon and egg bap.
Our meals came out shortly. The bread was a little bit harder than I would've liked, but it was chewy! I'm undecided on how I feel about it because I liked the chewiness, but if it was just slightly softer, it would've been amazing. I only managed to eat half in the 20 minutes I had to eat, but I got a paper bag to take the rest of my meal away. The staff here are also so lovely and friendly!
Can't wait to try meals off the menu next time I come here!
Excellent place to enjoy my afternoon. Quiet and tidy. Great coffee and friendly customer services. Highly recommended for business meetings or light lunch for couples
Came here a few weeks ago. I like The Lunchroom’s design. Windows are the walls for the main area of the place and had great views overlooking the city life. You have to walk through double door entrance and go up a flight of escalators. I wouldn’t have known about the place if I didn’t search for a restaurant to eat at for lunch that day. It seems this restaurant is aimed for businessmen and women customers. They have some high chairs and some low seated chairs. With the high wooden chairs, I wondered if people would get uncomfortable on them after a prolonged period sitting. I sat on a high chair but it had some soft cushioning.
I ordered the seafood special that week. The waiting time for the food took a lot longer than expected. Although I did understand it was because I visited at their peak hour - lunch. I was impressed by the staff and their customer service:
-Greeted by a staff member and was patient when we were deciding a table.
-Positive attitude when introducing the menu to us and happy to explain menu options further with good knowledge of it.
-Even when the food was taking a while, a staff member was kind to tell us the progress of the meals.
-One would come visit our table once and a while to see how we were especially with our meals.
-I had very casual/professional conversations which was great as I felt happy to talk to them.
My dish looked visually appetizing when it arrived. The noodles had a nice lemony taste - it wasn’t too strong. The meat in it had a bit of spice which was just the right amount for me. The prawns were juicy like it was marinated in delicious flavours! The salad and grated cheese went well with the rest of the food in the dish.
To conclude I really enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere was so comfortable and I felt like I wanted to stay longer even when my meal was finished. Would love to come here again.
Love this place.
Ticks all the boxes: Great food from a clearly passionate Chef, tasty with a healthy approach, eco friendly and modern minimalist but warm setting, with service to beat.
Highly recommended for a sit down lunch, a sandwich from the cabinet or a meeting over coffee.
Well done Lunchroom!
Great coffee and food. Best thing is the atmosphere, high ceilings, view of the city and inside the ANZ building (so you're not in the hustle and bustle of the Main Street). A favourite for coffee catchups.
My personal experience at The Lunchroom every time I go there is kind of amazing. Organic food / speciality fair trade coffee made by a highly skilled barista, cold pressed juice which is so hard to find in the city and the effortlessly clean restaurant menu. I love the pork belly. So so so worth it
Love this place. Such a well lit, vibrant interior and love the tucked away location (in the ANZ building). Only been for coffees but great coffee and excellent service. Lots of tasty things in the cabinet, would love to be back very soon to try out the food. One of my top suggestions for coffee catchups!
On my hunt for a savoury scone that was more than simply cheese and that didn't leave a film of baking soda on the top of my mouth, I ventured into The Lunch Room. Finally my mission was complete as their savoury muffin/ scone things are freaking sublime. While they change in their exact make up they tend to have pine nuts and caramelised onion in them.
Other important details to know about The Lunch Room - the pastries in the cabinet, specifically the eclairs and the caneles come from La Voie Francaise.
Also, the granola is delicious. And the cooked menu aint so bad either. I had the Seafood Special recently which was a delicious prawn spaghetti.
If you're looking for somewhere to take clients, or just a spot to grab a delicious meal or even breakfast on the run, The Lunch Room is worth checking out.
Yummy, yummy, yummy. Great food, beautiful presentation (I had the vegie ribbons), great service. Can't wait to come back and try the other items on the menu. Lovely spot for a midweek lunch.
Pleasant place to have breakfast with my daughter. Nice coffee but food was warm rather than hot. Appears to more a lunch venue than one for breakfast. Staff very pleasant.
Perfect place to meet for lunch - quick bite - or lingering lunch (ours was the latter) partly because it took a while for me to make up my mind with the menu!! A real gem in the city, to sit above the busy intersection and watch the world go by - with really lovely food.
Note - the pancakes are a really good choice!! Its like having dessert for lunch - legitimately!!
If you work in Auckland CBD - rejoice!
I've been told it's quite onerous and stressing to be tasked with finding a spot for a business meeting or staff lunch. To be honest, I can't think of a better job! As one who doesn't normally work in the CBD, I can't help but feel quite smug as I cut through the corporate crowds on my day off from teaching. The purpose driven walk, the slick fitted suits..sometimes I miss the pulse of working in town.
I was glad to have been tipped to look out for the ANZ tower with the revolving doors because one: I had a moment of panic when I realised I was on an involuntary digital detox after leaving my phone plugged in my room. Which means two: I couldn't even find the address through our best friend Mr G. And to make it worse, three: there were no signs whatsoever with the restaurant name.
Lucky it has the name on the business directory on the wall. Onto level one, it's nice to eat at higher levels above the ground. Apart from the famous Orbit, there aren't really any places in Auckland that offers that. It's good for people watching.
While waiting, we made guesses as to what was being made in the open kitchen. And by open kitchen, it was literally at the counter so you could see everything. Cute little balls - must be gnocchi.
When the waiter came to take the orders, it turns out the gnocchi was paired with the fish of the day. It was a unanimous decision to order the day's special.
I tell you, it was close to perfection. I don't usually like ordering fish for fear it'll turn out limp and papery but I ordered it for the love of gnocchi. You can imagine my joy when I found the swordfish to be so silky and smooth. Flavoursome with enough sauce to go around the salad and the fish, everything else was kept light to complement the gnocchi.
Beside me, a lemon and blueberry pancake stash was being devoured. With such a generous dollop of coconut yoghurt, it looked like a dream. Mental note: must go back to try this.
It turns out The Lunch Room is pretty much exclusive to the corporate crowds. Only open from 7am - 4pm Monday to Friday, there's no chance of catching it after work or for brunch in the weekend.
"Nourishing. Fairtrade. Organic. Hand-picked. Locally-sourced." All the good words. The Lunch Room if you're reading this - please extend your hours! Holidays only comes every 10 weeks or so for teachers (not complaining). Those who are lucky to work in town, your colleagues will thank you for introducing this place - go for it!
I tried scrambled egg with cured venison and beetroot for breakfast here. It was delicious. The scramble egg was tasty and the venison was so tender. My friend got a pancake with blueberry compote and coconut yoghurt. These two dishes were come in a lovely garnish. While eating, we could see Queen Street from above. What a place to come again.
Good coffee. Good view!
We went for a short work meeting. Seeing that it was in a prime spot for corporate traffic...we went there but found that the music was just a bit loud for a conversation. That was the only problem I could see. Will go again just to even that experience out!
Great location with fantastic outlook across the bottom of Queen St and QEII Sq. Excellent service, the girls were very good at being present but not over-bearing, quick and polite. The food options were great too, with lovely twists on originals. Great atmosphere, although slightly loud if you're trying to have a conversation. Have been back multiple times, and will go again!
Nice cafe with a clean and simple fitout, and a great menu with a few interesting items. Coffee was good too. If you're going for brunch try the Huevos Benedict (as they call it) which is an alt take on eggs bene with choritzo, smashed avo and chili.
Finding a comfortable, spacious place to have a bite to eat in the city can be really hard.
This place nails that though.
Definitely worth stopping here to get away for the chaos of Queen street
Amazing place for a lunch or even breakfast, good views from the 1st floor so no foot traffic when your trying to enjoy your meal
Food with flare and nicely priced. Nice and relaxed vibe, central location, with a sweet outlook from level one.
Great location with nice coffee and cabinet food for breakfast only.
Easy to find and a good spot for a cafe. I generally stop for drink and a cake, so I can't authoritatively comment on the menu range. The staff here have always been friendly and here's an odd thought, the seats are cloth and not plastic, which means that you don't get sweaty on a humid day, which is handy if you are having a meeting there.
The Lunchroom is light, airy and modern (but not cosy - it's quite stark). It's fairly large and there are plenty of seats (stools/chairs/tables), and they do food & drink to eat-in or takeaway. The food and coffee is good, but a bit overpriced. That said, I give it 4 stars because the staff are excellent & friendly. :)
The Lunchroom is a stunning cafe but is a bit off the beaten track as it's not on the ground floor making it the perfect 'locals' gem; going through the revolving doors just past Dior you'd think you're not heading to a cafe!
I've taken a few friends along for lunch and the fabulous layout always impresses - with floor to ceiling windows which frame the sun perfectly, looking out towards Britomart and the busy downtown hustle and bustle it's a wonderful and airy setting. The food is superb; both from the menu or cabinets, the chefs have an open kitchen space making it a feast for the eyes as well as your tummy. The staff are great, really friendly and attentive. Looking forward to my next lunch date there!
Great upstairs venue. Nice coffee and good service. The usual range of lunchtime sandwiches but nicely made and presented. I'd definitely go back if I found myself at the bottom of Queen St looking for a good lunch option.
Love this place! Been getting my coffee there every morning for over a year. Has been times where it wasn't amazing but it never lets me down. Amazing food and great coffee!!
This is a great place for a nice brunch or coffee catch up. Just sit beside Its sun soaked windows and enjoy sipping on your cappuccino. A little pricey, avg cost for lunch would be NZD 26 without drinks. However the wonderful culinary delicacy and theprime location makes it worth the price. Try the fish of the day which will pleasantly surprise you all the time. Bon appetit!
Excellent place to have breakfast with colleagues. Booking the exact table with the view of the Customs & Queen St intersection was easy. It's a great view with fantastic food & coffee. Will definitely go again.
Awesome place, tall glass windows and plenty of light makes for a very nice atmosphere. Food is also good, will come back again for sure. Not sure if bookings are essential, but I'd suggest you do that via their website.
