I gave the $10 breakfast a try and it was good value and a generous serving and an added hot drink of choice was priced at only $2. Good value and refreshing to see a cafe in the city offering a reasonable price. We enjoyed the fact that it wasn't bustling and crowded, but rather laid back and pleasant. The staff were friendly and overall a good experience. I would have given a 5 star rating, but it's never pleasant sitting at a table that's sticky and food stained from the previous customer.
The coffee here can be pretty hit or miss - it's either really good, or has been burnt. Have come here with my work colleagues for breakfast and the food is good, with reasonably large servicing for the price.
My colleague recommended that I try one of the chocolate chip cookies behind the glass counter, and they are actually really good!
Some people may walk past here thinking it's the hotel, but Le Rendez-Vous are run separately.
Staff are friendly, and always plenty of seats.
Their frequent coffee card is buy 4, get one free - not bad value.
I have walked past many times on my way to work and have been meaning to stop in to try the coffee out. Upon walking in, I was greeted with a big warm smile and lovely conversation with the guy behind the counter. My friend and I ordered two coffees and two chocolate croissants. The barista had great banter and was so quick and efficient. Most baristas are not as enthusiastic especially at 7.30am. The coffee was delicious and the croissants were next level! They were buttery, flaky and absolutely delicious!! I cannot recommend this place enough. Considering we paid less than what you pay at some places for just a coffee, I was not expecting too much. I was definitely surprised and will have to try not to sneak out of the office for another pastry. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area.
Really friendly service, always nice to go into a cafe and come out smiling!
This place offers great deals like coffee and croissant for $5. For lunch, a baguette sandwich and organic juice is $10 which is great value for money, considering that's how much a smoothie goes for in this part of town.
Theres a wide range of milks on offer, including almond!
Had a quick late lunch with my hubby here while running errands in town. I had a $3 coffee (well-made and served at a nice drinking temperature). Food-wise, my hubby had steak-frites and I had a (vegetarian) chef salad. Both were classically made and delicious. Service was fast and efficient.
I popped into here lured by the cheap coffee sign ($3)
Once inside I was impressed by the cabinet food and thought I would give it a go.....and I was well pleased I did....outstanding
Delicious bread, great pastries....I have subsequently found out they do all the baking on site which explains why it's so good.
Tip: they put the off cuts from the brownies out on the counter for you to help yourself...nom nom nom.
The vastly oversized Empire Tavern has sublet half of the front bar to the French guys who run le Rendez-vous and the place has never been more enjoyable.
If the star of any boulangerie is the croissant, pain aux raisin and pain au chocolat then le Rendez-vous doesn't so much have stars as a dazzling array of constellations, suns and galaxies. The baking is that superlatively good; the croissants are light and airy with thousands of dewy, buttery, filigree pastry layers interior encased in a cracklingly, dry crisp shell. The sweeter options use high quality chocolate/almonds/raisins that feature as sweet offsets to the flavoursome, creamy pastry dough that is perfectly balanced and never drifts across to over-sweet. To top it all off, these items are not just reasonably priced but possibly the best priced food in the CBD.
The rest of the menu is small but well thought out; there's a cabinet with French-style cafe food, excellent coffee and a drinks fridge. The French guys greet customers with a disarmingly charming "bonjour" and continue with service thats so friendly, fast and capable that you wonder if they have been deported from France for not being, well... French enough. They have done a very good job of making the corner of the bar they occupy seem quite separate and disconnected from the rest of the Empire.
I took half a star off for the TVs that are on showing sport (part of the set-up of the Empire) but they attracted a drunken old man the first time I went there. The fact that the le Rendez-vous is on Sundays and many public holidays also pushed that half point down because, while charmingly and authentically French, being closed on those days has prevented me accessing their croissants on the summery days that I have woken up literally dreaming of them.
One of these café places, where you go day after day to get your fix - I like mixing it with a croissant or home made quiche.
Really value for money...
The French lads serving there are really friendly. They are bringing to this place an authentic French flavour...
J'aime la décoration!
Good food & Good chat latte!
Coffee was nice! Had the Creamy Mushroom with eggs for breakfast, it was yum - eggs were soft poached. They had wifi which was handy for someone who doesn’t live in Auckland.
I love this place. Great quality and at a price that can't be beat. $3 for a large flat white! If you want bacon and eggs on toast with a coffee it'll only cost you $10 during the week. And the staff are friendly. Highly recommended.
Great Cafe. Great coffee, food and with lovely bubbly service and they even give you a Jaffa with you coffee. Worth stopping here on the way to work in the morning. They also have a nice range of pastries too
Great Coffee and food options. Grant and Sophia run a slick operation, make great coffee which is always provided with a friendly smile and good service.
Come here for work coffee most mornings, the coffee is great and the service is even better. The occasional brownie isn't so bad either
Best coffee in town. And it's surprisingly cheap. They have a really good barrista and front of staff.
Friendly service, great music, awesome coffee and unbelievable prices. Easily become one of my favorite places... 😍
Literally the best coffee every time, even with almond milk.
Busy but the coffee is good as is the food.
Great place for a coffee and croissant
