Always love coming here. Being pregnant doesn’t help when I feel sick going into certain restaurants but I can always make an exception for Try It Out!
Spring rolls here are so good as an appetiser then pork chop noodle soup is great! A friend and I always share one between us & leaves us super full & happy after. Big variety, definitely one of my favourite Vietnamese places!
Old reliable. I love their wonton noodle soup and their summer rolls. I also love their Vietnamese coffee and their lime and soda! The price is fair and the food is always quick to come out!
The raw beef scent may not be pleasant to some people but after the blistering hot soup the beef will be good as new and you will enjoy the pho bo, our typical favourite. It may not be your favourite but there is a massive variety of food. This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant unlike any Vietnamese restaurant.
I love to eat pho during pregnancy! my husband recommended here and take me to try! it's really nice restaurant, beef pho is delicious!and i won't get thirty after drink all the pho soup!that's good!
I can never get enough of the bahn mi at either of the branches of this outlet.
The baguette is always on point. Fresh and crunchy with a nice flavour. The filling is always tasty.
Dishes 34, 54, 56, 64 are all really tasty. The spring rolls are also worth getting. Unsure of the fried squid tho.
Some dishes are a lil pricey for the serving size but quality is always high.
Nice clean and bright outlet with plenty of seating. Service from staff is a lil bland and unenthusiastic but doesn’t subtract from the food.
Worth a visit if the otahuhu branch is to far.
This Vietnamese restaurant is located close to where I live. Been here many years ago but didn't really like the food there then. However, lately, we had visited this place a couple of times in the last four months and love the lemongrass chicken egg noodle soup and the deep fried spring rolls. Have also tried the lemongrass chicken roll which was nice and quite filling. Prices reasonable and noodle portion quite substantial too. A nice place for a quick meal, nothing fanciful but service was quite pleasant.
Best rare beef pho I’ve had! Tasty broth, perfectly cooked beef and great sized portion. I live in Auckland city and will be coming back for more pho soon. It’s worth the drive.
It was good place to have a rice noodles. I had spring rolls, wonton soup noodles, raw beef noodles:) was good! I want to come here again. Nice and clean
Second time here and this time, unlike the first, I wasn't disappointed. Food was good considering that hubby and I were really hungry. We ordered the pancake for appetiser which was yummy and crunchy. For mains we got the chicken with onions stir fry and chow mein beef noodles. Both were great especially the chow mein. I would order this again. Service could have been better but the food offset this shortcoming.
Staff and owner are always polite. Great consistency throughout the meals. One let down would be the cost of the meals, getting more expensive and portions are not adjusted to it, other than that, always delicious!
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We ordered the Rare Beef & Beef Flanks Rice Noodle Soup and the Special Beef Rice Noodle Soup. Both were very delicious and the broths were full of flavour. It is a very reasonable price as their portion size for the noodles were quite large. Friendly service but average ambiance.

I come here almost every single week. I remember there was a period of time where I literally came 3 times a week. When I first started coming here, I was lured towards the Lemongrass Chicken on Rice, which is amazing. However, now I am obsessed with the Rare Beef Pho Tai, that is what I order every single time I come here. I come here every week with my partner, who used to enjoy the Chicken Fried Rice but now loves the Lemongrass Chicken on Rice. Price is good, Staff are super friendly and remember us now, and always love having a good chat to them. I don't mind the way that the restaurant looks, if it was refurbished it wouldn't be the same. Love love love this place.
Perfect place for a cloudy wintery day. Great for keeping you warm.Large selection of soups and rice dishes! I had the spicy beef and pork thick vermicelli soup. Even without extra sauces added the broth was very flavourful. It has a yum factor that is hard for me to describe. As an entree I also had the battered squid, it was tasty and had a hint of sweetness to it which I liked. Only down side is there was too much batter than I normally would prefer. Less would have made the squid stand out more. My parents had the the wonton egg noodle and seafood egg noodle soup. They loved the broth. According to my mom “it tasted authentic and not just a stock cube taken out of a packet then diluted with boiling water.” Lol. Place was really clean.

Hands down the best place to taste the beauty of Viet. Their pho noodles are soft and their hot broth is full of flavour that doesn’t leave you in thirst for water.
I love Vietnamese food and out of all the places I’ve tried - this is most definitely the winner! They also serve delicious sides with my favourite being the Viet spring rolls that are different everywhere else.
You can choose from a range of sides to go with your pho noodles or rice. My personal go to is either the rare beef or lemongrass chicken!
There are two branches in Auckland both with free parking however service is average and everything on the menu is of acceptable price.

Much respect, do appreciate the value of time put in to the broths , as my queen an I come here a lot , service isn’t bad all tho on any given day it will have its challenges would say to many do try this establishment 🐲.
A personal franchise favorite for myself, I actually didn’t know there was a Burswood branch and kept going to the one in Otahuhu. Coming in on a Friday evening, to my expected surprise Try It Out was absolutely bustling, it took awhile for us to get seated and the, to be honest, the service wasn’t the best, that’s probably due to limited staff than actual bad attitude.
Going with my favorite rare beef and meatball pho while the partner opted with Banh Sung Bi. As typical of other Try It Out branches the meals come out relatively quickly and the meals were as expected piping hot and full of ingredients. My pho was at the usual high standard that I expected, strong beef flavor with an irresistible broth, the Banh Sung pork was grilled and was tender with a faint citrusy flavor.
Showstopper: Try It Out delivers again, may not be my top Vietnamese place but certainly not far behind Saigon kitchen
Overall Grade: B+
I still come to enjoy my Vietnamese cuisine, but more and more Vietnamese cafes are popping up. The prices have gone up slightly and doesn't seem to match the pricing of what other restaurants are offering. I wouldn't consider this a "cheap eat".

Frequent diner. Nice and fresh food. Can be busy at times. Do not expect fine dining environment-can be noisy. sometimes table not wiped thoroughly. But gr8 food.
I love Vietnamese food and this is the place for perfect Vietnam food. The beef rice noodle soup is the best just like the locals do it in Vietnam and the special rice meal is also the best with lemon grass chicken sausage egg and a couple other things with it as well
Came here on a Saturday night with a couple of friends before a get-together. Between us we ordered Pho tai, Lemon grass chicken rice noodles soup, Combination vermicelli, Lemongrass chicken vermicelli, Lemongrass chicken on rice, Crispy chicken on rice, Prawns & pineapple fried rice, and some drinks.
The waiter who served us was thrown at with a lot of orders 1 by 1 (he did look up to gesture that he’s ready) but it’s inappropriate to tell your customers “just wait ok.”
Of the dishes, I think the cold dish Lemongrass chicken vermicelli was the best for the weather as it was a hot evening, and packed with refreshing sweet, salty, sour flavors. The 2 chicken on rice dishes were sweet and sour with the sauce, but the crispy chicken was a bit hard and over fried for the ribs so it was hard to chew.
The Pho Tai I reckon wasn’t for the weather, but the flavor was pretty close to the authentic Pho I had in Vietnam.
For those who like milkshakes, I recommend the jackfruit milkshake.
The other dishes were average as the prawns & pineapple fried rice didn’t even have enough pineapples to be named after.
The portions were really reasonable for their prices as on average it’s around $16 per person for a dish.

The interior here is quite nice and spacious compared to a few vietnamese places I've been to.
With an extensive range of dishes its almost too hard to pick something to eat. Ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls, bbq pork, lemongrass chicken, lemon grass pork and the chicken stir fry with lemongrass and chilli.
All dishes were delicious, i couldnt even fault a single thing. My fave was the lemon grass chicken and the spring rolls.
Definitely recommmend if you're a fan of Viet cuisine.
Millions of choices there, very Vietnamese cuisine. Fresh and yum, especially the dishes with seafood. Recommend the seafood sour and spicy soup, served with Mint and sprouts on the top. It was so genius to use Mint as a seasoned material
Been here a few times! Never been dissatisfied or disappointed with the quality or quantity of the food. Although I’ve never had the beef before. This place stays true to traditional Vietnamese cuisine served in an atmosphere that is casual and more like eating at someone’s kitchen table than at a restaurant. My favorite dish is the squid salad! So good- every-time!
I normally give high ratings to all places that I've come and will come mutiple times to dine.
Such delicious Vietnamese food with good quality ingredients.
Try:
-Banh mi
-Sizzling satay dish
-White iced coffee
We came for lunch and it was busy. Staff greeted us immediately and were very friendly. Our waitress was super helpful with an allergy and had safe alternatives arranged. Hot tea was brought out immediately and our food followed not too long after :)
We had the summer rolls which were fresh and delicious - my favourite! And a chicken lemongrass stir fry dish that was amazing :) just the right amount of spicy.
Very popular restaurant and usually packed with people. My order of beef pho still arrived fairly quickly and it was delicious and hot as always. The soup was a standout from the rest. I noticed the portion of noodles have gotten smaller, unfortunately. Still a great place to dine on a cold winter's day.
I have no complaints about this place. I'm not a big Vietnamese dish person. I love steamboat but haven't really gotten into Vietnamese food. Kinda starting to like it now because of their number 25 😭 it's just so freaking good! Beef stew with rice noodle!!! 5/5 I like fat food and there is fat on my beef pieces. That's my favourite part 😂 love it. Good service too 😊
2020 update: Still amazing. Nothing has changed!
This place is tucked away in the slightly strange suburb of Burswood, our friends wondered where we were taking them! If you are indecisive, this may not be the place for you as the menu is extensive. We had fresh summer rolls and pork sausage skewers to start. Both came out quickly and were generous portions.
I ordered the Vietnamese Savoury Pancake. While it is the most expensive entree at $17.00, you get a lot of pancake for your money, see photo. It spilled over the sides of the plate and overtook the bed of lettuce, which made it quite difficult to eat.
This place has everything you want from a cheap and cheerful Asian restaurant. Generous portions of good tasting food for a cheap price and reasonable service. Will need to visit the branch in Otahuhu to compare.
One of my favourite Vietnamese place ever! I come here almost every week! The place is not a fancy or anything like that, but i absolutely love the food!
They serves good solid authentic Vietnamese food. I love most of their noodle dishes and some of their rice dishes. But my favourite dishes are their special combinations beef with rice noodles- their broths are so good! Their bhan mi is also pretty good! I love the combination of crispy baguette, sour pickled vegetables, pork and their home made pate!
If you are looking for a non pretentious solid Vietnamese meal, try it out is the place to go.
Been coming here for years. Food is always good and yummy. Service hasn't lacked, still good and best of all! They're actually Vietnamese. You would be surprised at how much Vietnamese restaurants are run by Chinese and Korean. The owner is very nice. The food is authentic. I'm Vietnamese so I give it my seal of approval (;
The portion has gone a little bit smaller on the special rice but not by that much.
I would avoid the otahuhu branch though. It's horrible since under new management. Just to Samwoos if you're in otahuhu and need your fix but if you're around botany, I definitely recommend this place.
Came for lunch and we all enjoyed the generous servings of soup. We tried the pho bo bien (beef balls rice noodle soup), pho tai bo bien (rare beef & beef balls rice noodle soup) and the Mi Tom (prawns with egg noodles soup). Tea was brought to the table as soon as we sat down.
The restaurant itself is more utilitarian than trendy and clean enough. It's a popular meeting place for locals and has lots of parking outside.
Really good food tasted like it was made very well. First time trying vietnamese and as a white boy I was surprised that it tasted so damn good. I personally tried the spring rolls and chicken rice noodle soup. Some of the best tasting food I've had in a while. I suggest you try it out!
Thanks to fellow foodie Heartshrooms for recommending this authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Spring rolls & fine vermicelli came with lettuce for wrapping. Special beef rice noodle soup & Vietnamese ham rice noodle soup were nice, with tasty soups. Lemongrass chicken on rice & grilled lemongrass pork chops both smelled & tasted good. It was an enjoyable Vietnamese dinner. (Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3/5)
We got in around 12 and immediately we had a table although the place was almost full. The service staff was attentive and quick and food was served pretty fast.
We ordered the 'try it out rice noodle soup', 'spicy beef noodle soup' and spring rolls.
The try it out noodle soup has an assortment of meat so its a good choice if you cant decide which meat you want for the meal. The flavour of the soup is good and light and all the ingredients are nice as well.
The beef in spicy beef noodle soup was tender and flavorful, and the soup was mildly spicy and relatively light too.
The meat in the spring rolls is delicious as well although we find that the price is a bit high for just two tiny spring rolls.
The overall ambience was casual and nothing fancy. Suitable for family dine-in as they have got baby chairs in the restaurant and tons of space for the baby chairs.
Had the chicken pho here tonight, and it was a whole new experience for me. I get pho all the time, because I love the combo of hoisin sauce and chilli sauce with the broth. Usually the broth is soooo bland you have to do that. But not here!! For the first time, I was not once tempted to add any condiments. The broth was absolutely delicious on its own.
My partner, who spent a few years living in Vietnam, confirmed that it was the closest thing he's tasted to the "real thing" here in NZ. He had the Special Rice, and that was very authentic too. I tried the egg cake in that and it was a set of flavours I've never tried before, but am pretty keen to try again - a million more times please.
Plus it was cheap and the staff were nice. Highly recommend!
Been here twice now. The food is good! Our favourite's are the lemongrass dishes.. lemongrass pork or lemongrass chicken and the vermicelli which is so light and fresh!

Hidden behind the tofu shop on Ti Rakau, you would only know about it if you stumble upon it.
The food is here really good. Although slightly pricer than other places the serving are also bigger. Definitely a nice place to go for a quick, tasty lunch or dinner. It is one of the few places where the pancake for the prawn and pork pancake has a coconut flavour, which is something that I like.
If you're not sure where to go just read the shop name and try it out, you wont regret it.
One of the best Vietnamese place in Auckland. Highly recommended porn spring rolls, it's so crispy and yummy. The beef with beef tendon noodle soup is also tasty and full of elements. Tender beef and yummy soup.
Was craving Vietnamese and this place didn't disappoint. My fave Vietnamese dish seems to always be Bun Cha Gio which is the spring rolls vermicelli. The dipping sauce was amazing and I think the art of this was what lifted it from what would have been a B+ to an A-. Spring rolls were nice and crispy and the shaved peanuts was the icing of the cake. Portions were generous but was still a nice refreshing meal for a pretty hot day!!
I enjoyed this dish, it really made me happy because it has all yummy goodies in one bowl. Salad is refreshing, meat is tender and tasty, the sauce is just the right balance not too sweet. The service is excellent. Thank you andy's nephew :)
Decided to 'Try it Out' for lunch - my normal go to Vietnamese 'cheap eat' is Han San but this was equally as good if not better. Nice to have a good option locally without having to travel into the City.
Service was okay to begin with, ending with a nice chat at the till after.
Tried the spring rolls which were nice - the lemongrass chicken was also really good. The coating on the skin was better than Han San - slightly crispy. I figured if they could cook these two classics well it must be good.
Will return to try the Pho which I also hear is good
Try It Out is my go-to place for Vietnamese food. They have some of the best broths (though sometimes it's a little inconsistent), and their vermicelli salads are also refreshing and delicious. The portions are huge, I can usually share with someone one noodle dish and a portion of spring or summer rolls - both of which are also great - and be fully satisfied.
The rice and Chinese dishes aren't that good, unfortunately. My family and I only ever go for the noodles when we're there. But definitely a place to go for great Vietnamese dishes.
Cheap eats, clean, bright and spacious, friendly service.
Having been to the otahuhu branch, this place is more modern and has nicer looking furniture. But food quality is the same! Good and fast service for reasonable price.
My favourite dish is the spring rolls. $5 for 2 pieces and it's super tasty!!!! Can't go wrong with a pho but I think the noodles were slightly overcooked but still tasty though. Also vermicelli with lemongrass pork chop. No idea how they get the pork so tender!!
Their drinks are good too. Interesting smoothies - longan and lychee. Yummy!
Reasonable for what it is :)
Loved the food cheap and worth the money. The coconut milkshake was good. I will definitely be coming back regularly. The only negative is that the staff need to smile and look like they don't hate there job. But food is good
I personally love Vietnamese food. This is my favourite Vietnamese food in east auckland it never lets me down. The soup is always flavorful and the beef is tender. I probably come here once or twice a week because i am always craving for the food there.
Pretty decent for Vietnamese food in east Auckland. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with egg noodle soup and it was so good! The chicken was very well flavoured, as was the soup and the service was not bad either.
Try It Out Burswood is the sister store to the original in Otahuhu. This is a lovely local when you're wanting a light balanced meal or just craving Vietnamese.
We often order the traditional pho with sliced rare beef, lemongrass chicken, and the lemongrass pork chop.
The pho is always tasty, accompanied with a side of mung beans and lemon, as well as chilli. Just beware of the msg, so don't drink too much of the soup (probably why it's so tasty).
The lemongrass chicken and pork is always delicious and cooked well. One of my favourites would have to be the picked vegetables which come with these, balancing the dish so it's not too heavy.
Try It Out is a good place when you're in the neighbourhood. However, not sure if I would recommend the drive if you weren't.
Otahuhu store is a family favourite since i was a baby, since we moved out east, this is our go to on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Staff are fun and lively - very welcoming and fun! Reasonably priced portions. Can safely say Try It Out offer the most authentic Vietnamese food in Auckland(besides my house cause we're vietnamese :P) Recommended to all!
If you haven't been here already, I'd suggest you Try It Out ( haha, see what I did there? )
I've been here a few times now but despite the good reviews out there, I've never been wowed by it.
The other night, we ordered the crispy chicken egg noodle soup, lemongrass pork chop vermicille and the pork and prawn pancake. First of all, do NOT order the pancake. What a joke. It looked impressive from the outside but tasted pretty gross. Little bits of prawn and pork stuck into the pancake itself and just a whole bunch of bean sprouts tucked in as the filling. Definitely a disappointment.
The crispy chicken was moist and had nice crispy skin but again, it was average. A bit of seasoning on the skin would've made a huge difference. The lemongrass pork vermicille was nice but some cuts had thick layers of fat on the meat and weren't very pleasant to eat. There wasn't a lot of lemongrass flavour to the pork either.
This place did have good service as we were served quickly and the food came pretty fast. Overall I thought this place probably isn't the best Vietnamese restaurant out there, but not the worst either. Could do with some improvements.
Great Vietnamese and mix of Asian foods. My parents love the place after coming back from Vietnam; I can't believe it has been here so long and I didn't try it out! Ambience not so much but food great
love the place.
owner and the stuff are very friendly!
all menu is tasty but i really like
"combination vermicelli noodle"
and "special thick vermicelli noodle"
friendly owner = good food.
Try it out is always our favourite Vietnamese restaurant. We used to go to the one in Otahuhu until this one opened. This branch is more spacious and friendlier staff. The food is very nice with lots of fresh vegetables.
Great food and great service every time. We are regulars there and you can't beat a nice soup in winter! Try the lemon grass chicken it's yum and the salted fish fried rice.
Love their special noodles soup #16. And the ice coffee with milk is kind of Asian style which is really worthy to try. It's one of my favourite Vietnamese Restaurant.
I had intense cravings for Vietnamese again last night and thought I'd give this place another go as the first wasn't too good.
I had the combination vermicelli and my friend had the special rice. Mine had a spring roll, a grilled viet sausage skewer, shredded pork and a lemongrass pork chop. Amanda's had the same less the spring roll and a chicken loaf and egg instead. We also got 2 sets of spring rolls.
Part of the downfall last time was the dryness of the pork chops!! Last night it was delicious. Juicy and well flavoured. The spring rolls were also yum! I can't get enough of them!! Only complaint really is they season every. single. thing. with black pepper. After a while it gets quite intense and there's nothing really on the plate to balance it out.
Overall, good well priced food, satisfactory service and quick. I'd definitely come back.
I love both of the try it out stores!
There's consistency in their broth and fast service.
The rare beef cooks in the soup which is very entertaining and yummy.
Instead of our regular, we decided on trying a new Viet restaurant tonight. The environment of this place was much nicer than other Viet restaurants that we have previously been to.
The service was alright... We had to ask for green tea twice as they kept forgetting. The food didn't take long to arrive after we ordered.
I ordered the usual lemon grass chicken with vermicelli - which was good. The spring rolls were nice too. (The food portion was quite big!)
Overall the food was nice and the service was good. I will be coming back :)
Awesome place to go if you're feeling like a reasonably priced, sufficient feed.
I've been here a few times now and have left feeling satisfied each time. The portions are big and they're good value for money!
Last night I came and got the battered squid, lemongrass chicken and the combination vermicelli. Everything was delicious and was a perfect amount between 2 people. I've also had the spring rolls on multiple occasions and the beef soup which are both tasty!
Definitely worth coming to if you can't be bothered making the trip it Otahuhu :)
If I ever feel like viet, this is the place I visit. The staff are always friendly the speed of service is on point. Obviously this isn't the place you would visit if you are feeling like a 5 star meal. It's more of your cheaper and cheerful type.
My favourite dishes are the spring roll, any of the phos and the tomato rice!
Always Good service
And friendly staff
Price 3.5/5
Quality 4/5
Service 4/5
Atmosphere 4/5
recommend pork rice noodle.
Always great, quick, friendly service. Food comes out nice and hot and in a timely manner. I get the same thing every time and never disappointed, they have the best broth for their pho - so full of flavour! Great place to go for great vietnamese food.
I love the spicy beef thick vermicelli soup and the spring rolls from here. The food comes out very quickly. It can get quite full during peak lunch times in the weekend so I would recommend to book a table if you are not going there early!
I can safely say the Try it Out chain offers the best and most authentic Vietnamese food in Auckland. I had been to the Otahuhu branch 4 years ago with a Vietnamese friend and had been wanting to go back ever since, however it was way too far :( which was why I was ecstatic to see a branch open near the Botany area!!
I have been here three times and the food was delicious 3/3 times! Dishes that I have tried include the lemongrass pork with rice, the rare beef pho ( of course), the combination vermicelli and both the spring and summer rolls. I could not reccomend the rare beef pho enough! It is seriously amazing ! the meat is tender, the noodles are soft and the soup is gorgeously prepared ( made with real stock too with no msg! confirmed by the chef hehe). This is definitely my favourite dish from here and I order it every time no fail! ( my dad has the same opinion as me on this )The summer rolls are refreshing and a good entree/side dish if you're leaning towards the healthier side, HOWEVER i'd recommend the spring rolls as they were tastier ( the unhealthier options usually are arent they ;) )The lemon grass pork was yum too however, this dish didnt stand out to me as it tasted similar to any other Vietnamese restaurant you'd find in Auckland.
Overall, service is efficient and prices are extremely affordable ( below 20 dollars per person). There is a wide variety on the menu as they even offer Chinese food! however if you go, do go for the viet cuisine as it's definitely what they do best :) recommend over Hansan any day ( dont kill me D: )
Have tried their pork and beef vermicelli dishes and was quite satisfied. The meat was nice and crispy, salads and vermicelli were well seasoned. The prices are very good for the portion & quality.
In a snap of a finger when I am craving Soup noodles after a night out, this is the place I am at. I've been a long time regular along with my friends here at Try it out. They have an extensive range of authentic Vietnamese food and drinks and their setting is much more comfortable than their other outlet in Otahuhu.
They cover a wide range of Vietnamese food, it is hard not to think of something that is not already there. If you feel that their authenticity is not enough, they even have their tv playing in the background showcasing Vietnamese cooking and travelling shows, now that is loud and proud! :)
I've tried many Pho noodles yet I have never come across to any other like this place, preparing the most softest noodles. If you are a Pho noodles soup fan like me, you'll instantly notice the difference. If you haven't tried, I recommend the combination or perhaps their traditional which is the Rare beef. Their Vietnamese sub/bread roll from their appetizers is also another favourite, simple but full of exotic flavours.
Try it out is a great place for catch ups with friends and family and they accommodate very well to large groups with ample amount of space for comfort. Sometimes staff had approached me if I'd like any beverage/tea, given our long and lengthy conversations with friends and family. Their service is always kind and friendly and the boss is always in a chirpy and in a cheerful mood. I've had no problems.
Great value for your buck and always left feeling satisfied and hungry for more.
I went for lunch today and was rewarded with an enjoyable dining experience. I ordered the raw beef and tendon pho. The soup was savoury sweet and flavoursome, the beef and most importantly the tendon were tender. The rice noodles were a little on the soft side but still held together okay. The side order of squid was soft tender and the batter was light and crispy. For me the food at the East Tamaki branch was superior to that of its Otahuhu mothership
YES. Finally a great place in East Auckland for Vietnamese food. Had the rare beef rice noodle and the squid salad, both of which were great. Nice, tidy place with a busy lunch time crowd. Way better than Hansan and nearly as good (or just as good) as the original Try It Out restaurant in Otahuhu! Will be coming here for dinner again this week to check out the other dishes.
Food was nice,
Good representation of Vietnamese cuisine!
Randomly stumbled upon Try It Out one afternoon and stoked we did!
We had summer rolls, deep fried squid, and rare beef Pho's.
All were presented nicely and we thought they were really great value! Perfect for a winters day.
The service was really friendly and helpful! Definitely will be returning.
We usually go to the Try It Out in Otahuhu, but decided to check this one out instead and we were not disappointed. The food was tasty and affordable and the service was friendly.
We had the summer rolls to begin with and they were delicious and fresh, although I wasn't a big fan of the hoisin dipping sauce. For our mains, we had the crispy chicken with rice noodle soup and the raw beef and beef ball noodle soup. Both were very nice, especially on a cool winter's day. I also had the coconut shake which was creamy and delicious.
Overall, this is a decent, cheap place to eat which we will come back to next time we have a hankering for Vietnamese food. One word of warning - our clothes did end up smelling a bit when we left!
It's hard to find decent pho in New Zealand
We have found a place in Auckland that does a decent one
Our usual are rare beef pho, tripe & beef pho and the traffic light drink (red bean, jelly, coconut milk and ice)
They offer an extensive menu, apart from the noodle soups we have tried the lemon grass chicken on tomato rice - the rice is flavoursome, vermicelli salads - if you want something light , sizzling beef - tenderised and tasty, and the salt and pepper squid.
One of our locals so will see us here at least once a fortnight
This is our favourite place for Vietnamese! It is also one of the more authentic places. We have been long dedicated customers of Try It out when it was just their Otahuhu store but we now frequent their newer one in Botany as it's closer to home.
The restaurant is flasher than its older counterpart with higher ceilings and more modern tables – don’t expect anything exquisite and out of the world, this is a family restaurant sporting a more casual atmosphere. The staff are very friendly in both places but service can be quite slow at times.
Our usual staples are the Lemongrass pork vermicelli, Fried spring rolls, Beef Pho and Red Bean Ice. The vermicelli is super refreshing and incredibly delicious with the nuoc mamma (fish sauce) poured over. A perfect summer dish.

If you're around East Tamaki and you want some good Vietnamese food, I recommend going to Try It Out. One of my family's favourite place to have lunch during the weekend, Try It Out serves decent Vietnamese cuisine with dishes such as lemongrass chicken, pho and salad rolls.
My favourites include the chicken and vermicelli noodle salad with greens, herbs and topped with peanuts. This is paired with a tangy fish sauce. A refreshing salad for the summer! During colder days, I opt for their raw beef pho. The rich broth combined with the silky rice noodles and slices of raw beef that slowly cooks in the soup is addictive and it is also my parent's go-to dish!
Portion-wise, it is good value for your buck and just the right amount for us. The service is standard and can be quite slow on some days, but they do get rather busy during peak times on weekends.

The food was absolutely delicious & the experience was memorable.
The food was flavourful - fresh and satisfying. 2 seafood dishes and the chicken stir fry.
I would definitely go back. Credit card machine was faulty today but online payment was available. Robot delivery was a cute idea.
This restaurant is always busy every time I come including holidays. The restaurant looks simple but you will be surprised by the taste of the food. You can add the sauces according to your preference, they are placed on the table.
Fast service by human and robot machine.
Parking: yes, in front of the restaurant.
Spring rolls were crunchy, fresh & delicious!
Vermicelli & pork dish was also great, so much flavour.
Pho was good but not as flavourful as it normally is.
Tried pork summer rolls for the first time. They were ok but wouldn't get them again.
Lovely friendly service :)
What a lovely birthday dinner! Celebrated 30th dinner birthday for my daughter in law and family with so much fun and full tummy after. Very accommodating staff and quick service. The robot was another great experience. My grandchildren enjoyed every delivery of the food to our table. As usual the lychee milk shake did not fail us again and again. Keep it up guys 👍
Delicious. I got the beef ball pho and the jackfruit smoothie. Beef ball pho was plentiful and flavourful, loved the broth and the beef balls were also super good. Great portions. The jackfruit I haven’t tried before but damm it’s good. Service was friendly and efficient. They also had a robot serving food out which was pretty cool to see as well. Lovely place!!
Having explored numerous Pho restaurants in Auckland, none have resonated with my palate quite like "Try it out!". Their broth, a masterpiece born of meticulous preparation, stands unrivaled. Time clearly plays a crucial role in achieving such culinary perfection. Complemented by impeccable service, this spot is my go-to whenever I'm in the mood for something warm and soupy. Highly recommended!
Pleasant surprise. Fast and friendly service with an extensive menu! Love that the menu has pictures as reference to help choose what to have! Generous serving sizes! I loved my Bahn Mi and coffee 😋
We live in the West but is always happy to eat here when we're in the area! Staff are very friendly and food comes extremely quickly. There is a large variety of menu items, but you can't go wrong with a traditional Pho! IMO the Pho was perfect, just the right balance of flavours, not too over and under for anything.
We also had some prawn/pork and beef spring rolls and they were super fresh and delicious as well.
Would definitely recommend coming here if you are in the area and I'm sure they would appreciate your patronage in these times!
Pork bun is crispy and juicy. Rice noodle and soup is good. Pancake portion is a bit small. The staff is helpful. Overall a delicious meal.
An off road Vietnamese restaurant. It has a seating capacity of over 20 tables and can rearrange into smaller tables. Lunch time was full and customers slowly join in to fill up leaving happy belly customers. It serves traditional soupy noodles dishes & each is served with a nice little fresh yellow head green bean sprout and a slice of lemon to enhance its soup flavour. I had a BIG bowl of rice noodle soup (80% hot soup) accompanied by a crispy fried chicken thigh with drumstick. Hot Soup was so welcoming, it took away the cold winter chill. You can spice up with little red chilies and soya sauce. A pot of hot jasmine tea was just right to finished off a good hearty lunch meal. Owner had great PR skills of recognising & greeting each customer.
This is our go too. Staff are always so kind & smile
The food is fast an always taste sooo good not once have we come and been disappointed
