We went Kintaro on Fuji because we had a voucher that 10 dishes for $39 per person.
We didn't expect much as price was too reasonable for the number of dishes but food was unexpectedly so good!
Fresh sashimi, sush & tasty dishes to enjoy all night.
We were so full before the main were served.
It is a perfect place for people want to enjoy good food at reasonable price with BYO drink.
Delicious fresh fish and other yummy meals from their 10 course set menu. The courses came out a bit to close together (sometimes two at a time) leaving us with about 3 courses at once to eat, felt a bit too rushed. Would have been nice to have it slowly course by course so we could appreciate it all a bit more. Beautiful flavourful meals and great service
Great "Mum & Dad" style restaurant with authentic Japanese food at very reasonable prices.
Service was attentive without being too obvious.
I loved that there was some Japanese children there eating dinner (early evening).
Pinning for some good Tokyo backstreet tucker - don't go past Izakaya.
Have been here a few times now with a GrabOne voucher which was like a 8 course set meal. The first time we were served with slightly different dishes compared to the second time we went there.
Service was really good and the food was delicious. Even with the voucher, it was quite filling. Would definitely come back to try out some of there meals without a voucher 😋
Bought the grabone 10 course meal. The service was very friendly. The food came quick, we almost couldn't catch up and was really full after! The raw fish was very fresh. Definitely worth to come back!
Good fresh fish!!! I never eaten it in here ;) And staff were so kind. I had a good time. I ordered Sashimi set but it's very delicious. We can choose 2 courses.
Price also nice!
No words to describe how generous this place is with their serving at reasonable prices. Fresh sashimi and private dining hidden away above on the 2nd floor. Definitely would recommend.
Izakaya Kintaro on Fuji, it’s a mouthful to say but there’s plenty of good Japanese food to eat at this comfy and private Japanese CBD restaurant. Came here to celebrate a birthday and used a Grabone voucher that had a 9 course meal.
Judging on the meal from the 9 course set menu – this was a fantastic way to get new customers. The sushi and sashimi were fresh, amazing varieties of taste and their Teriyaki Salmon was superb – had the right amount of sweetness and saltiness to make it just right!
What I love about Izakaya Kintaro on Fuji is that it is perfect for private dining – highly recommend dining here for an intimate date. Overall a good Japanese restaurant in town that won’t break the bank.
We bought the grabone voucher for this restaurant, and we had amazing night. The food was top notch and great service. Easily 5 stars for this place!
We had a great experience at this restaurant from a GrabOne voucher. The service was top notch, the food was excellent. We'll be back again
Decoration is 5 out of 5. Service is friendly, and helpful. The only not full mark is the food. Just average. Nothing to wow about. Not a big menu. Having said that, this restaurant is great for gossiping.
A pleasant surprise. Walking by, I never felt the urge to enter because from the streets you can't see the restaurant. But upon entering you feel like you are transported to Japan with their decorations, pebbled steps etc. and greeted by friendly staff. Ambience is dark and quiet, great for a business meal or even a date.
We ordered their sashimi and was really fresh! The karaage chicken is one of my favourites so far! light and crispy. We also ordered the beef sukiyaki and takoyaki. Everything was honestly delicious. Even the sake we had! But I guess this place is on the slightly expensive side.Â
Also notice they have an in-house magician that performs at your table on Tuesday nights I think. That would be super interesting. lol.
Charming tucked away treasure of a find that we happened to walk past. Had one look at the menu outside and you can see this is the real deal. Loved the detail of little bits of info about the mother outlet in Fukuoka. Meals were fresh, fast and authentic. We had takowasabi. My husband was dubious until he placed it in his mouth then was looking for more! Isobe mochi. I've been looking for this dish for a long time and was NOT disappointed. I would definitely get this again! FYI it's a dessert. Think Japanese style salted caramel rice cakes and the Tonkotsu Ramen with the _literally_ melt in your mouth Pork slices and a hearty broth cooked to perfection. If you're a fussy foodie like I am. This place will certainly not disappoint. Some items on the menu outside were not on the menu inside like Okonomiyaki Kushi (maybe I was just salivating too much) but such a little thing did not dampen our meal. Toilets were lovely again with high detail. Service was great and attentive. Offers booths, up close n personal with the chef or private party rooms.
very quite place for dinner, the atmosphere was cosy and service was great. we ordered the set dinner with the pork intestine hotpot, beef steak and white fish appetizer. the portion was just right for two people and the steak was cooked very tender. the set had a range of different tapas together with rice and miso soup. overall very enjoyable meal
Excellent food and service. I came here with 10 other work mates for lunch and were given quality service, complementary takoyaki and main meals cooked to perfection. I had the lunch special with teriyaki salmon. Excellent flavours with fresh fish and salad! You will not be disappointed. Affordable and great calm atmosphere
Great place if your looking for a private or quiet dinner. The lighting in here is beautiful and each table is sort of set hidden away from the next.Â
Food was amazing! Tasted good but the display on the place was beautiful. Really made eating fun.Â
Customer service was top notch, everything was at your service and the people were very polite! Would recommend for a date or quiet dinner.
Tired of fake Japanese food? Then Kintaro on Fuji is for you! This is the real deal, and it's good. We ordered the bento, but it came as semi-kaiseki - i.e. not plonked in front of you all at once. OK, so the fish could have been a little fresher, but it's as good as you're going to get in NZ (and importantly, it caused us no problems). The service was a little slow on a busy Monday lunchtime (hence only 4 stars), but it was otherwise up with what you'd expect in Japan - and they do speak the language, always a good sign. The next time we're in Auckland, we'll probably go back in high hopes.
My wife and I have been to Izakaya Kintaro twice for dinner now and can't wait to go back again. The sushi is outstanding- the best I have had in NZ. From having lived in Tokyo and other parts of Japan we can say the food quality stacks up with what you get back there and is pretty authentic. Both times we have been in a large number of the guests have been Japanese, which is another good sign. The large sushi platter is good value and the desserts platter is a really nicely presented plate of small treats for after a filling meal.
I absolutely LOVE this Japanese restaurant.
The ambience was great with its mood lighting, which complements the beautifully presented dishes.
I especially liked the little touches, like bringing the wasabi root to the table, and grating it on the wooden board there in front of us, and serving it. So cool.
Needless to say, the service was very attentive.
The food at Sansui is delicious. An absolute favourite for me.
Wow, the best Japanese food and service I have ever had!!! Each dish was exquisitely presented and the flavours and textures were a taste explosion. A favourite was the deep fried tofu squares with miso paste and walnut flame grilled on top. The tempura was amazing – especially prawn and avocado – with three types of dipping sauces including a green tea salt which I’d never had before.
I went for a dinner out with my best friend and we shared the food tapas style which meant we could try a bit of everything, including the sake which was presented in the most unique and delightful way.
The service was really great! The waitress explained each dish as it came out and each plate was brought to us promptly. Beautiful ambience with the booth style tables creating our own private dining experience and the background Japanese music created a very authentic event.
After the main food events when I thought it couldn’t get any better it was dessert time. To be honest I wasn’t expecting much as I find a lot of Japanese restaurants tend to just have icecream on the menu. The dessert was amazing – I had the tofu chocolate mousse which was heaven...not a taste of tofu but the creamy texture and rich taste of cocoa. My friend had the pavlova with green tea ice cream which was also divine.
I will definitely be going back again this time with a group of girlfriends to share more tapas with, and this time I’ll save more room for dessert!
I'm one of the regular customers of Sansui. The place is always awesome and offers beautiful dishes and warm service.
I go there 3 times a week in the lunch time as they have every day different lunch special boxes. It is quite valuable!
Highly recommend !
We made an impromptu visit to Sansui last week, was getting late in evening so only two other tables occupied, service pleasant and attentive, drinks took too long to come, food well presented and appetising, pleasant decor and interesting entrance to restaurant, we will dine there again
Love the everyday special lunch! They have a different special lunch manu for every day of the week. Staff are also very friendly. Highly recommended for business lunches or just casual lunch.
Well and tasty Japanese. Fish were very fresh and was very filling
Great dining experience. Been here on multiple occasions with friends. Food may not be the cheapest but it is cheaper than most other Japanese restaurants. The quality and the presentation of the food is good. Plastic trays for convenience; nothing to complain about.
We came there, an hour late only to be hearty welcome anyway. Very nice service and very tasty sushi! We ate with the 2 of us for $75. Recommended to anyone!
Amazing services! Running by genuine Japanese. Love the atmosphere and seating design gives customers privacy. Food are great and price is really reasonable.
We went here late night and was surprise the staffs are still cheerful even though i think we are their last customer. They served good and delicious food. Could not complain.
Friendly staff, pretty good pricing on lunch menu. Can be a bit quiet but that's what I like about the place.
Great variety of authentic Japanese dishes made from high quality & fresh ingredients. Presentation is amazing too!
Very friendly staff well priced and tasty.
Good food and service, reasonable value.
Good lunch options for Japanese curries.
Grabone voucher. Awesome deal and food
Favorite place to eat Sashimi in Auckland
Excellent degustation menu
