Sura is a lovely little Korean restaurant. The portions are decently sized. The old man who cooks came out to speak to me and my cousin personally to suggest us a few items from their menu. Small and quaint with delicious and affordable food.
I have been back many times and am always satisfied 😋

I ordered a bowl of spicy rice cakes with added cheese and it is perfect I would definitely go back :) I travelled all the way from onehunga to get this and it was well worth the trip haha

We just had a lovely dinner at Sura tonight. The food was very tasty. The pork rib soup and teriyaki chicken are delicious. The service is nice even they were busy tonight, we have been looked altered very well.
Nice home style Korean food. We ordered a hot stone bibimbap and sizzling chicken. I can understand why some people said that the portion is small as I do not think it is enough for my husband with the rice portion. The portion for the chicken is alright. Having said that, I think the portion is acceptable as I think we often have too big a portion. Of course one would then expect that the meal can be a bit cheaper? Anyway, love the bibimbap as it is not over flavoured and one can add more sauce if they want. Overall, would revisit whenever we need another Korean fix.
Everything I've had here is very tasty, the prices are great too. The place is under new management, I would give them a 5, however whenever I've asked for the food to be spicy it's always closer to mild to medium.

Had a very beautiful lunchtime today @ Sura, enjoyed the Spicy tofu soup, generous amount and very tasty, haven't had good Korean food for a while. Will now be one of my family's favourite place to visit.

One of our local restaurants and one that I've frequented for the last 6 years or so, maybe even more. They are super cheap and their meals are more than what you pay for. They have a very simple menu and all their food is so homely. Cooked by the owner and his family members. Small place, run by a small family providing lovely homely meals.
A nice place to go for Korean food which is located just behind Countdown. Really friendly service and the food was delicious. We ordered the sizzling squid and fish roe soup. Both were amazing. Really enjoyed the side dishes too.
However it's a really small place with only about 8 tables and got really busy in the weekend.

This place is small but food will never disappoint you. They have a new menu , too. Those new dishes including the omelette rice we ordered was very nice. The seaweed soup and green tea are self service, not like other places would charge you even $4 a cup of green tea! Definitely will go back again. Remembee to book for large groups because they are always busy and running out of tables!

Great everything! Nicest lady ever works there and is always accomodating, even when there is no space to eat. Sizzling chicken is so good and so cheap as well!

It looks like the restaurant might be under new management. There is a fresh coat of paint over the walls but the menu looks similar.
When the food comes out it there are new side dishes as well as new serving dishes and sizzling plates.

This restaurant is very hide side in highland shopping centre. This restaurant is very small so i didn't expected. But really lovely taste!!! If you want try korean food here will be good experience for you
A must have in Highland Park, has been here for a very long time so you know everyone enjoys it! Ask your friends who have been in this area, I'm sure they all know about this place.The manager is very friendly and greets all the customers in a nice way.Would recommend any of the dishes with meat and rice, good value for money (although the portion has decreased slightly over the years). They provide lots of side dishes for free with unlimited refill so that's always good~Atmosphere is nice, not an awful lot of seats and can get busy on some nights.Would be 5.0/5.0 if the prices were a bit cheaper, but decent compared to a lot of restaurants.

My daughter comes here a lot & finally dragged me along. Really good service, and excellent value for money. Hopefully the centre's renovations will be completed soon, so thety can tidy up the interior.
Another good Korean rest. to go in the area. I'm quite new to this area so this place came up when I searched for Korean rest. so I gave it a go and I was happy!
The menu is pretty simple and what we ordered quite similar, just different meat haha. We had sizzling pork and sizzling beef. The guy asked how spicy we wanted and of course we said SPICY! and YES they were pretty good spices in these dishes. We loved them.
One question for me would be if these side dishes are free refill? Because they gave us two just one set of side dishes. They were just enough but would be great to have one set each ;)
Nice cosy place with a very welcoming and homey atmosphere 😊 Food is relatively priced but I recommend eating with a group of people then splitting the bill for efficiency. Everything we ordered was cooked and prepared well. Favourite dishes I would recommend are the pork cutlet and spicy rice cake. Would definitely return here!

Sura is AMAZING! Sonya's is such a lovely person. She makes you feel welcome and ensures the food is of high quality. I have been a regular & loyal customer of Sura's for 6-7 years and I will never get sick of this place. The food is amazing and is filling for $13. The side dishes are also delicious and they are very generous with refilling it.

I really have no complaints about this place! I've been coming here for around 6 years and I'm always down to come back whenever it's suggested. It's so close to my house and a really good cheap eat! I always order the sizzling chicken because of how tasty it is. For $13 it's such a tasty and filling dinner. The side dishes were also very generous!
All the complaints that the portion sizing has changed are bs. The food is still just as hearty as it was 6 years ago.
The customer service here is also so lovely. She always remembers me even when I haven't come around in a months time!
This place makes yummy Korean food and the staff are nice!
There's nice hot tea available as well.

Time for updated review; this place is just awesome. Sonyas one friendlest hosts I've ever come across. Visit place regularly although lately due to construction been happening around area for few months ive not visited as often. Food is always good, I always stick to my usual kim chi rice or teryaki chicken; hot pot is also good if you have group 3 or 4. Place had a couple changes to staff but food quality is same (my only wish would be they invest in better rice cooker to get fluffier rice); prices haven't increased too much over years and for under 30$ still get decent meal for two. You need to book on certain days though like friday/saturday night; its small restuarant behind one of the countdowns in highland parl but it gets super mega awesome busy. All those other comments about reduced meal size from few reviewers is total bs; they've always measured portion sizing. I'm guessing other reviewers just got fat, maybe hangry? or possibly didn't notice slight change in takeaway packaging that makes it look like you get less; >__>
Nothing to write home about. The food is quite good and the prices are great, but portion sizes aren't particularly impressive and the side dishes were a little on the unexciting side. However as far as East Auckland goes, this is probably pretty decent for Korean fare? If anybody has a better recommendation for cheap and cheerful Korean in the area PLEASE let me know!

My husband and I have been going to Sura for many years. The owner/waitress knows us by name and knows exactly what we want when we walk through the door - always get the same great dish.

Probably one of thd best places go Korean food. Not a big fan of Korean food but this place is decent, the quality and quantity has not changed for over many years. Always predictable and nice to bring some friends over for a feed. Only worth it if you live in this area. All their dishes are basically what you get in Korea.
Food was amazing, super super yummy and very nice service too. Also everything comes out quite quickly which is always a bonus, I love going here!
Drove to sura to find simple and domestic style korean dishes. I was quite surprised with the little que that i had to bargain away for the manager to write down my take away meals. Although the little restaurant was a bit of busy due to dinner-rush, i have tasted simple meals which perfectly suited my taste buds. Frankly I'm not a fan of meals which have gazillions of flavours. I like meals that focus on the natural flavours of the food itself. Oh take in mind that i ordered soup meals (yook gae jang and fish roe soup) If that is what you are looking for and value for meal this is the perfect place to check out.

Such a cute little Koran restaurant! The food was delicious & the lady who was taking orders was so so sweet! When we arrived it was empty but by the time we had left there were people waiting outside for tables. Definitely a hidden gem to try if you are in the area 👌🏼

Sura has remained to be the good local Korean restaurant offering good food at good prices.
My favourite go to is their hotstone bibimbap, with other popular dishes being their sizzling plates. Their sides here are also very tasty.
With good and efficient service with good food at good prices, Sura is a wonderful place for an intimate meal.
Tried the sizzling squid with rice and it was delicious. Loved every bit of it. Craving for more. The interior was lacking and only limited sitting available. However, the overall experience there was great. Service was fast and really loved that.
I've been to this cute korean restaurant three times now and I believe it is worth a visit for a quick, filling, and tasty meal.
For my recent visit, I had got the beef bibimbap which came with side dishes of kimchi, seaweed and sprouts. This dish was tasty and lived up to my korean expectations. All of the side dishes complemented the meal and made sure that you left the restaurant satisfied and full. All of the dishes come in a reasonable price of around $15-18.
The only let down was the service and overall setting. The tables and cutlery seemed unclean and the environment seemed very bland and 'boring'. The service of the waitress was average and lacked basic skills of looking in the eye, or seeing how the meal was. Yet I have gladly come back to enjoy a quick Korean meal.
Very small but busy place with enough parking. We were initially seated by the window but the sun was too bright for my kids who complained so we moved. Food was nice, never had Korean food before so can compare it but their teriyaki chicken is really good! One thing is my family and I don't eat sugar so we could definitely taste the sugar in all the dishes. The owner is very lovely and helped clean up our daughters water spillage in a flash.
Went last night after not having been for a while. The portions have certainly decreased over time- quite markedly. The pork and the chicken dishes were had were very tasty and we were well satisfied with the quantity and quality but the beef dish was a huge disappointment. - mostly cabbage and very little beef.
Staff pleasant but not on our list for a return any time soon.

I've been going to Sura for years now and the quality of their food is always consistent and satisfies your Korean food cravings especially with a very wallet friendly price tag l! Very friendly staff as well- very welcoming and service is quick. I've come in during their busy times at times and it's never much of a wait. Their food is just packed with flavour (try their sizzling dishes especially!). Definitely a regular spot for me when I want to eat out somewhere nearby !
This place is awesome, the food tastes amazing, and really lives up to "service with a smile"! Their sizzling meats are the best and a must try of everyone who comes across this place. One of the best Korean restaurants in auckland! Very generous with their side dishes of kimchi, bean sprout and seaweed- refillable upon request. Hands down best teriyaki chicken, moist and oozing with flavor. The owner is a lovely lady, all around great service and food. X

Love love love this place. The owner is always so lovely and the food is so satisfying. If you haven't gone to sura and had their teriyaki chicken you need to go now! Their spicy beef bone soup is amazing too. Perfect winter dish :-) I have been coming here for 7+ years and it has never disappointed. The service and quality of food has been spot on every time. Definitely recommend.

I love this place, small but the atmosphere is very welcoming the food is really tasty. I had bulgogi which is my favorite & also sea food hot pot when i was sick (they can improve on the sea food though its not so meaty) but in terms of flavors its wonderful, just really yummy food & awesome service.
My wife & I had a bad lunch experience at Choi's Korean BBQ yesterday and we decided to make up for it at Sura. It's the first time of our visit. We ordered bibimbap (hot stone rice) like yesterday & spicy fish roe soup with rice, which also came with 3 small side dishes & green tea (in self-served tea-bags). The side dishes, including kimchi, lightly vinegared sea-weeds & onions, and bean sprouts, were all nicely prepared and served generously. Bibimpap was exactly what we wanted - well-mixed with matching ingredients like mushroom strips, beef strips, raw egg, seasoned spinach & carrots strips, etc. Fish roe soup was rich in flavour - an excellent dish. "We'll be back soon." Hasta la vista. (Food - 4.5/5; Ambience - 2/5)
I have been to Sura Korean Restaurant many times - Everything is always fresh and I'm never disappointed. There prices are extremely cheap, its BYO which is a bonus they have the best service. Would have to say my favourite restaurant currently can never get sick of eating there food. See you again soon =)
Great sizzling dishes at a great price. Very friendly place. Usually get take-a-way but have eaten inside.Used to come here a lot but moved away from the area. Pop back for the take-a-ways though.
Some of the best Korean food in East Auckland. The Kimchi fried rice is outstanding. The lady owner is crackup and will always have a good yarn with you if you let her. We've been here many times.
My go to place when I'm craving for that kimchi fried rice! Hands down the best kimchi fried rice I've ever tried. The service is excellent and the lady there is super nice! They get very busy sometimes so either go there early to secure a table or book ahead!

They make really nice spicy beef soup and fish roe soup! The staff are also very friendly. However, recently all the prices have risen which is fair given the rising price of ingredients but $14 (I think it was??) for a bibimbap doesn't seem very worth it. ):Still, I recommend you give this place a try next time you're in the area.
This place is so legit, makes me want to eat korean everyday. They can make many of their dishes vegetarian as well! Friendly service. Come here at least 3 times a week
This restaurant is my go-to place for my favourite korean dish, Bibimbwa. Their dishes are in general very affordable and of reasonable quality. On top of that, whatever you order, they serve the Korean appetisers + Miso soup!
My teenage daughter and I decided to go somewhere different for our mother daughter date. I'm so glad we went to Sura. The food is delicious and very affordable. The sizzling pork and chicken noodle dishes were primo. The atmosphere made us newbies feel at ease and the hostess is amazing and very helpful. We will definitely be making this place a regular hangout. I can't wait to try something else on the menu.

Eat here very often. The owner runs the front of the house brilliantly and engages all her patrons. The food is simply awesome, very good value for money and service is always done with a smile.. Ive tried almost every dish on the menu and was never disappointed on any occasion. Must try's are the beef bone soup, kimchi fried rice, bibimbap, tofu soup and the fish roe soup..
Food was good and came promptly. The host was friendly. At approximately $14 a dish it was reasonably priced. Parking was no problem at 6pm on week day. The pork cutlet was nice and crispy and stayed crispy served on a rack with the sauce served in a separate container so you can add your own quantity. I'll be back.

Sura has a variety of dishes ranging from jelly tofu soup to sizzling pork. I've been coming here for quite some time and recently they changed management, with this they increased their range of dishes. I can say that the new dishes still meet the high standard that they've always held! I recommend the sizzling dishes
