Without a doubt the best coffee in Auckland, once you find it (and it's pretty well hidden) you'll come back again and again.
Best spot, best vibes, best coffee + food, best barista
This place is awesome! Great setting, tucked away from the busy roads. Consistency amazing food, and great coffee. Definitely going to keep coming back :)
職場近くにこんな美味しいコーヒー飲めるお店があったなんて!
隠れ家的な雰囲気もGoodです。いつもありがとうございます!
Awesome!! One of the best coffee shop in NZ!! You should try it.
First visit to the shop today. Awesome coffee shop. Great espresso followed up by a delicious Columbian single origin on the Moccamaster. Happy days.
Best coffee in whole of Auckland! Food is rad too!

A lovely little cafe in Eden Terrace. It's the definition of a 'hidden gem' but only location-wise. Coffee Pen is definitely not unknown. Despite being tucked away at the bottom of Basque Road, their outdoor seating fills up pretty quick and early on weekend mornings by the locals who come to enjoy Coffee Pen's very own handcrafted blend.
Yas and his wife are delightful and the coffee is superb. Cozy little gem of a place in Eden Terrace. Delicious cabinet food too.
A little cafe in eden terrace - cozy place to chill on the weekend with a great coffee and a slice of cake 😋 . Will def be back.
That piece of beauty was really sweet, creamy and bananay!
Amazing coffee and food!
Hands down for everything I ordered... Everytime is my favorite moment.
I usually get chicken and mashed peas sandwich, vegetarian sandwich, banaffee cakes or cheesecakes.
Absolutely fall in love for their cakes since my first bite.
Coffee is a just perfect all the time.
If I am allowed to say 1 request, really hope they would have more vegetarian or pescatarian option foods...
Amazing combination of top-class bean (the name of the bean just slipped out of my mind...) and top-class barista :)
If you haven't tried Coffee Pen's cheesecakes, you don't know anything about cheesecakes...
Highly recommend Pumpkin NY Cheesecake, Chocolate NY Cheesecake and Matcha Cheesecake!
Pen's lunch special is also something to go there for.
Not many cafes can mix "healthy" and "delicious", like Pen can.
One downside would be... Pen closes at 3pm... and doesn't open on Sunday... :'(
Been there once. Cozy place, amazing coffee and cake! I’ve tried tiramisu tart. It was so good. Can’t wait to visit again and try other menu!
A very unique neighbourhood's cafe. Great coffee and homemade food, couldn't leave without trying a piece of their cake selections. Very friendly service. Wish I live closer to it.
This place makes the best coffee! Seriously! Of all the cafes I've been to, none has matched the flavor and consistency of the flat whites here. It's so good I've had to restrain my self from too many coffees each week...
Definitely a hidden gem, tucked away in the corner of a small road. My colleague discovered this place while trying out all the cafes around the office.
Good coffee good food . Usually different pasta dish every second day . Love the pasta and some decent Sammie’s in the cabinet too . Worth a go
Brilliant experience 💗
Service: The owners/staff were all friendly and helpful. Food arrived quickly as well.
Ambience: Such a small but cozy place. Tried to come early since there are limited seatings.
Food: Delicious! We ordered Chicken burritos, Salmon quiche and reuben sandwich. For dessert we have 3 slices of cake: matcha cheesecake, banofee pie and tiramisu.
My favorite would have to be the reuben sandwich and the banofee pie. The sandwich had the right ratio of meat, cheese and pickles and was extremely tasty. The banofee pie melts in my mouth though a tad too sweet.
Definitely will come back for more 😊
What a hole-in-the-wall this little place is! Run by a Japanese couple, you can tell they really put effort and precise craftsmanship into the coffee and food they make. They have specials always changing to keep things interesting. Green tea cheesecake always takes the cake for us. Coffee blend is of premium quality.
Amazing little place with speciality coffees, cabinet food and desserts.
We have tried a few cakes now but stand out is definitely the tiramisu tart and banoffee pie. Coffee is delicious.
Came highly recommended by eatlitfood. Cute little cafe with lovely staff, great coffee. Definitely a good place for a snack rather than full on lunch. Sandwiches are nice
We came here after seeing numerous instagram photos of their cake slices. We ordered the tiramisu tart and the macaroni cheese/ meatloaf special.
The tiramisu tart was amazing, rich but not too rich. The coffee flavour was prominent but not overpowering. A good balance of chocolate and coffee flavours. Absolutely recommend!
A bit on the pricey size, i think it was $7.50
The matcha cheesecake was almost $10.
Love love love the food we had today! Came here with expectation to try their matcha tart. Personally I don’t like dessert with dry coconut but because the matcha custard on this tart was SOOO GOOD that I ignored coconut on its base. I can easily have 2 pieces and finish in like 3 minutes haha! Reuben beef sandwich - omg was sooo good. I didn’t expect it too be this good. I enjoyed every bite! It’s tangy with some pickles and relish and good amount of cheese. Soo good! Coffee and service are great! Oh we also had banoffee pie - couple first bites were good then it became a bit too sweet to finish it myself. Definitely go back again and try more yummy food!
Absolutely loved their food here. I tried the Lasagna and I believe their Lime Mascarpone Tart.
The Lasagna was soooo cheesy and saucy which I loved and felt like a home cooked meal.
The Tart was on the other hand was very delicate and not too sweet. The cream on top was so smooth but still complimented the tartness of the citrus.
Would definitely go back here again and try their food!
Wonderful coffee and desserts. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. Haven't tried their savoury dishes yet, but looking forward to. Lovely and friendly owners. Thank you! ❤
Eatlitfood's reviews bought my friends and I here and honestly bless him. We shared pretty much everything on the menu and it did not at all disappoint
Amazing coffee in an adorable little tucked away spot. The owners are really friendly and provide great service. Definitely the best coffee I've had in a loooong time. Will be back for sure!
Coffee pen is in my Top 3 Coffee places in Auckland and the owner and barista Yasuji is friendly to all and the amazing coffee keeps his regulars coming back for his coffee whenever possible. Fresh homebaked menu available on site and it's best to visit when the weather is good because the you'll want to be on the benches outside. Quiet tucked away cafe you'll love. @coffee_pen_
Coffee is hands down best in Auckland and food is always made with love. Owner operator likes to change things up and has really good rapport with his customers. I'm forever loyal!
Nice tucked away coffee spot love the coffee and there are great fresh lunch options too mostly good for Takeaway as there isn't tons of seating
This place is a hidden gem! I am a bit of a coffee snob and the coffee here is probably the best I've had in Auckland (they make specialty blends). The food is also damn good - I recommend the lasagna, and mashed pea/chicken/pesto sandwich. Delicious! There are nice spots to sit outside under the trees, away from the noise and traffic. My new regular for sure.
A place for coffee lovers. If you enjoy specialty coffee, coffee pen is the right place to go.
Some of the best beans from the main producers of the world freshly roasted, with a nice and friendly service.
Come on a rainy day and sit by the window and look out to the tree. Somehow it reminded us of Japan.
The chicken pea sandwich was nice but a little bland for me personally. Same as the Wagyu pie. I wouldn't come back for these.
The cakes were good.
Coffee was also very good.
Very small but very popular local café. Most of the seating is outside so it's only a viable option in good weather. Limited menu but the food is excellent, as is the coffee. And I have to give them a particular mention for their excellent taste in music.
Today its our first time went here for our coffee and small bites.
The coffee are delicious, I got mocha & my partner love his americano.
We also trued their dessert & food, I choose basque cheese cake which is my fav and their cheese cake is yum even little bit too sweet for my taste. Their spinach something (not sure whats the name since my partner was the one who order it 😂) also delicious!
The service also lovely & friendly!
I really love the ambience there, its nice hidden coffee gems in the city..
Will def come back to explore more whats on their menu tho! 💖
DELICIOUS flat whites at coffee pen.
The food is also very delicious and love that they always have different menus on each week, which makes it even more appealing.
Located in a hidden spot which is great for a sunny day.
Staff are super friendly and seem to have heaps of regular customers.
Highly recommend this place!
One of my favorite café in AKL, the food taste so rich, I always feel satisfied after a brunch here, the coffee is one of the best in town! The service is very satisfying as well 😜
Such a lovely hidden little cafe! Everytime is a different experience that doesn't disappoint. This time we had a prawn sando, perfectly cooked and surprisingly light for something deep fried. Their reuben is also deliciously done - and would be a solid challenger to the fed classic. We finished off with a wee Caneles de Bordeaux. Not too sweet, just perfect. ❤️
I suspected I was in for a treat when I saw a sneakily tucked away corner cafe hidden behind some oak trees, which added to its pleasant ethos of coffee vibes. My hopes dropped somewhat when I saw the price list but proceeded regardless.
Golly gee I am glad I did. This is probably the second tastiest, fruitiest culinary experience I have experienced in New Zealand based purely on coffee. Complemented perfectly by the smooth jazz and fresh spring leaves of the climbing rata vine out front. My day was instantly better and then also somewhat worse because I know the peak of my day has already been. If only I could drink 15 coffees a day and not have a heart attack.
We stumbled onto this quaint little cafe when we were heading to another brunch spot. Such a fortunate change of events because this place is such a gem! The coffee is good but the lasagna is even better. It’s on the sweeter side but I love it. The seating is also on the outdoors. Fancy some refreshing breeze while enjoying your meal, this is the spot. My Sunday has been brightened. Thank you coffee pen.
Nice cafe for good coffee and a bite to eat, pretty chill and comfortable atmosphere. Exactly the type of place I envisioned myself enjoying coffee in Auckland before the trip!
An unexpected surprise. I didn't expect the coffee to be particularly delicious. The taste is delicate. Coffee is mellow and flavoured. Tiramisu cake is so delicious. The staff is very enthusiastic.
