Our new local for takeaway coffees - delicious and lovely service from friendly staff.
Fantastic breakfasts, add a side of halloumi it’s to die for! Best place to go for a morning coffee, the staff are incredibly friendly and always up for a great chat.
Been wanting to come here for a while! Kind and warm owners. Had amazing coffee and pastries. The lemon cake and brownies were to die for and took my sweet tooth to heaven :). Thank you, will be back!
Such a warm welcome and interesting food choices. I was here for breakfast so chose not to be adventurous but I did enjoy the option of roast mushrooms with the eggs Benedict. The coffee was acceptable ( not amazing but fine). I will certainly be back to try other options on the menu... or even to have that same dish again!!
Awesome people, just such great characters who really make your day. The coffee is fab and the gluten free brownies are out of this world. Just wish they were open in the weekends!
Try the eggs florentine, huge portion though but so tasty, lovely relish, avocado, tomatoes, eggs and hollandaise. The best I have ever had!
Awesome, authentic folk and great kai.. the owners have been there for many years and have their cafe was once a dairy. Photographer Alonymous took a fine pic of Rupas back in the 70s or 80s, so there's a bit of history there. The place seems to get quite busy, which is a good sign. Definitely worth a visit. :)
Just stopped at Rupa's for a long black, and opted for a savoury scone as well. I must say, the tastiest savoury scone I have had in a very long time. Good strong flavours, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, wicked with lashings of butter. Go Rupa's!
Super cute little local cafe run by a gorgeous family.
Everything seems freshly cooked, the food timings are great and the coffee is delicious.
Seating outdoors could be a little more comfortable and maybe the addition of some planters or foliage would make you feel less like you were sitting on the roadside.
This place is great for a midday lunch stop
Friendly staff, very welcoming, plus great prices, great food and excellent seating? Worth another visit. First visit, I took a very generous slice of apple and plum cake - delicious. Second visit, and I tried the lemon cake. Also brilliant.
I enjoyed my eggs on toast and the coffee was AWESOME, I will most def come back to eat here. I also liked the staff; very friendly. I followed my lunch with Banana loaf and that too was delish.
Fabulous place, enlihtened barrista. Great food, super friendly staff ( and other customers ) make you feel most welcome and part of their family.
It's a quirky wee place, not quite sure what it's meant to be. Part cafe part deli specialising in homemade Indian curries.
But what makes it are the people...owned and run by the friendliest people around.
Really good Samosas! Tasty with a lovely crusty outer shell. Many flavours available both meat and vegetarian. Funny sort of a place, sort of a cross between a cafe and a curry house. Service was prompt and friendly.
This is a bit of an oddball and it's hard to put my finger on it but it appealed in a mishmash sort of way. With a name like Rupa's it should have more of a Maori flair, so I wasn't expecting to see a range of Indian samosas in a cabinet :-) However the food I did see looked very good (more European style), my lamb casserole pie was tasty and tender. The historic (50s?) signage built into the walls adds a retro rustic flair brightening up the functional interior which has a hipster appeal with its couches and long tables. Location is a bit obscure but it got plenty of foot traffic from nearby businesses. Service friendly.
We stopped here on the way home to get a bite to eat after being recommended by a friend. Zane made us a great coffee, he had very good Barista knowledge in the coffees he had available and was genuinely interested in making sure our coffees were to our satisfaction (5 stars for service). He told that they import their coffee beans from overseas.
We had a tasty Samosa each ( both gourmet flavoured) with a mediterranean styled Salad both made in house, followed by some fruit cake that tasted like it was fresh from the oven.
The service was prompt and very friendly , the setting is great with a lot of history in that area as the business has been in the same family since the 1950's. It's nice to go somewhere with some history ,good food ,coffee and service instead of all of the mass produced cafes popping up in all the main streets with average coffees and no service.
We will definitely be back. Thank you
My friend recommended this café to me yesterday. The best sandwich I have ever had in my life (Cajun chicken). The staff both woman were lovely and friendly, the service was efficient and I really enjoyed their decoy & sounds. Will definitely go here again.
Sorry to read about the unpleasant experiences below. I have been a customer of Rupa's for many years and have always felt welcomed. It's one of my favourite places to get decent coffee in the whole of Auckland, and their sweet treats are yummy. Sure they're a bit rough around the edges but that's part of the charm. I think you'll find that neither of the owners are "putting on" their accents.
Literally shaking with excitement eating these hand made delicious Samosas.
The service is excellent and the taste and texture of both Samoas I ordered were fabulous.
Thank you!
Delicious food with top quality ingredients and brilliant coffee. The owners are so lovely and friendly. My son is 2 and he was welcomed so warmly. 15 min parking for take away pick up really convenient too. ❤️ 🙏
I simply love this place!
They're real coffee connoisseurs and make the best coffee in town.
They have a huge selection of really tasty samosas and pastries.
But most importantly the people working there are just lovely! Always keen for a little chat, very knowledgeable and passionate about their job.
Go check them out if you are in Freemans Bay.
I had sweet warm chai latte, with medium level of spice. Nice although a bit too sweet for me (non sweet was also available to order). The one that took my order (also the barista) was super nice. The place was cozy. Thank you!
The hot chocolate was super creamy and delicious and the quiche was also very very good. Didn't try anything else but it's a recommend spot based off the two things I tried.
The place to go for hand made & folded Samosas. DELICIOUS, so many options (my fave is mince & cheese). The owners are so friendly & accommodating (I was working there with my laptop) & parking is easy. A place I visit regularly now. Thank you!
The owners are super-friendly and welcoming and the place has a nice community feel to it. Great coffee and the Full English Breakfast is one of the best anywhere. Convenient location in the small Freemans Bay shopping village. Served by the 106 Freemans Bay Loop bus.
Everytime we come here we are so well looked after by the beautiful owners. The food is amazing and always made with love. The coffee is fantastic and made to taste. The owners are so passionate about their cafe and it shows!
Lovely friendly service, an authentic cup of Char Indian tea, and delicious samosas, followed by a genuinely crunchy ginger crunch!
Love it! Excellent customer service, humour and delicious coffee! Would highly recommend the lamb samosas as well ❤️ if you have a free hour definitely come down.
Such a neat cafe. Friendly, open and welcoming owners and staff. We felt really well taken care of: very unusual to experience such hosting.
Delicious cuisine, nice coffee and friendly staff. Really good place to have lunch!
Great food, awesome coffee and super friendly staff!
Just go there! you will enjoy it!!
Going to rupas is like having coffee with family. There service is amazing they really spend time with there customers. They have great coffee and a selection of cafe and Indian meals and samosas and hot breakfasts. If you in the neighborhood I really suggest you definitely check this place out and enjoy the aroma that the owners put into this place. They are only open Monday to Friday so good for that morning fix before work
This is the most amazing cafe hosted and owned by the 2 loveliest people in Auckland. 100% recommend this place as the food and coffee are incredible!!
My fav breakfast place with warm community feel. Love their Indian tea and creamy lemon cake.
Before writing my review I took a look at why this lovely place had only 3 stars, and was surprised to read all the negative reviews. I have never had an unpleasant experience with them, I enjoy meeting my friends there, and the owners are very nice people
We found Rupa’s, because we stayed at an Airbnb close by and liked the friendly look of the place. We were very impressed by the quality of the samosas we tried, six different ones on three different occasions and all of them truly delicious. You can taste the experience and care that goes into each of these handmade Indian equivalents of a Kiwi pie - only much tastier!
Not a coffee drinker, I can only say that I’d return for the Chai smoothie. And since I’m from Palmerston North, that’s quite a commute.
The family feeling of the cafe is truly welcoming. We will make a point of coming back next time we’re in Auckland, for sure!
Rupa's Cafe is my go to cafe
I live close to many excellent cafes in Freemans Bay/Ponsonby area but frequently choose Rupa's cafe as my go to for a number of reasons. Great coffee and food. Especially, if you like to samosas you've come to right place. Freshly made and delicious. It is a family run business and they're very welcoming, and passionate about their customers and making them happy. Highly recommended.
My dad and I always love coming to Rupas. As usual today we were welcomed like family :). The omlettes we had were truly world class! Nice to have GF options too and the coffee is superb. Thanks guys for another great experience. We'll be back!
