Vegan heaven. The foul, falafel, pickles.. I will be coming here on a regular basis for when I need a middle eastern breakfast fix.
Friendly staff. Great portion. Amazing flavour. Satisfying meal. The pastries both cheese and mince are a must try. Hidden gem for Middle Eastern food in Auckland. If you are feeling down due to the winter weather, drop by this place and you will feel the difference:) Thank you Shefco!
This branch isn't as big as the Mt Roskill one. Parking is off street. They have a few seats inside the restaurant/shop and a few seats outside on the ?patio area.
Food looks fresh and the salads in the cabinet look fresh. They have so many sweet treats and baked goods it's hard to choose what to get!
Will have to try food from the main menu next time.
When we first came to New Zealand we used to love coming to this place. It was owned by a lovely Arab couple back then and i remember the shawarma was delicious and fresh. The food cabinet always had cedar fingers hot and ready to go with other pastries.
I think a couple of years ago (5-10 Â years maybe) ownership has changed and the place hasn't been the same since.
The shawarma is still good but menu has really changed and at one point there was butter chicken and curries being served. At a Lebanese food joint!
The savory pastries are really not good. I had the mince ones and there was hardly any meat, and the pastry was like a biscuit around it. I actually bought some to give to my Lebanese friend who had come from Australia, and they were not impressed.
I will say the reason why i'm giving this place a 3.5 is basically because of their baklava. There's no doubt that it's really crispy, sweet and delicious. Granted there's not much competition around, but we truly do enjoy the baklava here.
Shefco is also known for their lebanese bread, so at $1.20 for a pack that's worth buying too.
The rice is delicious here especially the flavoured rices taste good on their own. I tried baba ganoush it's also really delicious. Can't wait to try the special recipe fĂşl !
This place is always a great idea if you want to grab bread or middle eastern foods. The variety has decreased recently though but I still go there as I trust their products and their canned foods often have a long expiry date. Their cheese selection is always yum and so is their frozen section.
We are big fans of this place. Their falafel platter is amazing and such good value for money. The ingredients are always fresh and taste home made. The staff are very friendly and we will keep going back. Highly recommend!
Love this place and a regular. I normally get the on rice dishes with the flavoured rice and lantil. The garlic paste is one to die for, give it a go if you are a garlic person. Only thing they are missing is the Turkish bread, love to see it as a kebab burger on the menu one day.
I'm a big fan of Shefco, loving that felafel salad meal. Excellent collection of cheeses, olives, and dry foods. Good qual would eat again. Also like the Mt Roskill branch which has enormous round trays of baklava, that's a tantalizing shop, I get all drooly when im there.
The falafels are so out of this world good, really good and friendly service and I love the unassuming decor :) everything I've had from there is delicious!!! Really want to try the breakfast foods one day too.
GREAT FOOD, I LOVE SHEFCO!
As everyone else i have been going there for almost 5 years.
i love their food. Especially Shefco baklawa cafe on Stoddard road.Â
Baklawa is so fascinating and wanders with taste and incredible sweet service.
I love going their with my friends and family :)
So thank you Shefco!
Always a great eat here whether it's a kebab or rice dish. Though sometimes can be a let down if they're running low on their meat late in the day. Also the whole roast chicken is a good meal to feed a few.
Good for middle eastern groceries and sweets too.
We have lived in this area for about 4 years and went here for the first time on Sunday night. Takeaways of Lamb on Rice and Chicken on Rice along with a couple of minced lamb 'cedar roll' pastries. We thought the Lamb/Chicken rice meals were awesome. We got the lamb with their special brown rice mix which had some fantastic flavours. I'm still raving about it, so much so that I've signed up to MenuMania to post a review!! Great value for money. We will definitely be returning.
This place has been around forever.. I remember eating there when I was 15 and now I am 28. Good run!
Not a fan of the Shawarma. There is far too much fat on the meat, so definitely not a healthy meat. But to be fair, that is the case is almost all kebab shops. Ever opened up a Shawarma and inspected the meat you are eating? Try it - you won't eat 1 for a while..
But as for their Kibbeh, that stuff is gold. And their Hummus.
Almost every Saturday I buy 2 kibbehs, half a container of hummus and half with salad and that is lunch sorted. It is perfect if you hit the gym before lunch - lots of protein and healthy fats!
Try their Kibbeh, you won't regret it.
I LOVE this place, best kebabs and iskender in town and a tasty selection of fresh salads and pastries. Sometimes the staff are a bit brusque, but it kinda adds to the authenticity of the place :P
As Cedar Cafe was our closest kebab stop until last year and it's such genuine middle eastern food we probably ate here far too often for a while! Fresh. Healthy. Tasty. Value. There's a wide range of salads to choose from - the usual tabbouleh, lettuce tomato and delicious hummus, but also chickpea, kibbeh, variations on rice, dolmades, and the dressings are the standard garlic mayo, chilli, barbecue., mint. The meat is real, and very well cooked, you can get roast chicken, they make their own soft, puffy pita bread, the parkings easy, you can eat in ( only a few tables) ,they sell desserts like baklava and Turkish delight and also middle eastern groceries( if you've never tried pomegranate molasses, but some!)so many reasons to go here. The staff can be a bit gruff, but just smile back!
When you're bored with all the Asian offerings on Dominion Road, head to Shefco. This place does a mean kebab.
The produce is fresh, the hummus tastes authentic and they have the most amazing garlicky, lemony chickpea salad. It's a fantastic find for vegetarians, with a large range of vegetarian salads to choose from along with the fresh falafel. Meat eaters are well catered for too: none of this processed lamb-on-a-spit crap that the food hall kebab shops serve. And moist, flavourful chicken.
The servings are big, the prices are low, and there is a shop at the back where you can stock up on baklava, dolmades and other Middle Eastern delights. There are a few tables available inside, and a couple outside in a small sectioned area overlooking Dominion Rd for those who can't wait to dig into their kebab. Otherwise this is more of a takeaway option.

It is good! Rice were delicious and warm. Chicken was not warm. Garlic yogurt (sour), humus sauce, salad and pickle were good.
Taste: 8/10
Quantity: 9/10 (portion size is good)
Quality: 9/10
Suggestion: More chicken please! And warm meals.
Try again: Maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️
The food here is utterly delicious. A simple setting and an unusual location but who cares when you taste the food you are instantly transported to Lebanon.
Fresh salads, sauces were on point. The garlic sauce smacks you in the face but in a good way! A good variety of salad too. We got the lamb half on rice and half on chips (the lady was nice enough to accomodate our request). I also grabbed a bag of the flat bread which was so cheap! Definitely going back there again
We came here many times, mostly take away and to get some flat bread and some middle eastern grocery.
Today we went there for brunch. We had chicken kebab on rice, large chips and green teas.
The food was fresh and very tasty, she gave us yellow and brown rice (has lentils in it).
They serve the teas in paper cups and came with a piece of baklava on it.
The size of the portions was really generous for what you pay at the point that we consider it extremely cheap for the excellent quality food they do. We really enjoyed the food.
The lady who served us was super friendly, her service was excellent and professional. It was quite busy when we were there, people keep coming either to dine in or take away. One single person efficiently handled everything!
I would say, this place has the BEST kebabs in Auckland.
We LOVE this place. The food is delicious! Be amazed at how she single-handedly takes and prepares orders without you waiting too long. Some people prefer the Stoddard Rd Shefco, but Dominion Rd is far less pretentious, actually serves kebabs at lunch and its easier to find a car park.
Best experience eating here for the first time. Food was soooo delicious, Service was amazing, The woman who served us were sooo lovely! Even did a shop for araby goods and bread and WOOOW!!! Amazing! Prices were awesome too. Highly Highly Recommend giving them a try guys! Thank you ladies for making our trip to Auckland turn out great! Appreciate it so much. ❤️
I am hesitant to share this review. I am afraid of longer lines and drop of food quality when it becomes a popular spot. But the fact is still undenialble. This is one of the best food shops I can't believe it exists. LAMB SHANK soup is a must try. Hummus is freshly made everyday. The pickles are great even from the jar. Fresh veggies and big portions of delicious foods. Well, I will not dare anyone to try. Keep it special for me and my family. So, do not come hahaha.
I got the lamb kebob on rice.
Absolutely outstanding! I’m on vacation, happen to be in the area and google “food near me.” This gem of a place comes up and I trust the reviews. I couldn’t agree more with all the five stars.
Heaping serving, flavor explosions, fantastic flatbread, super friendly service and shockingly low price for the value.
It’s not a Michelin restaurant but that’s why it’s so amazing. It’s a very sweet, down to earth woman serving her food. I loved every second of it.
Couldn’t have started my adventure vacation on a better highlight than with this meal.
Delicious Arabic sweets as authentic as they come. Great friendly service and good prices. Zaaky!
Visited Shefco last evening. We were attended to right away, 5/5 for service. Simple menu, we opted for Chicken Shawarma on chips and Lamb shanks. Massive portion size, chicken was very good. For Lamb shanks, we opted for lentil rice...pretty interesting given it was my first time. They have sweets in their cabinet and a section for packaged food. Their Baklawa is a must try. Will visit again for sure.
