I went to this canton restaurant five days ago . The staff was friendly. I liked the deep fried pho with combinations meat , a lot of meat inside and the noodles tasted well . Other food tasted alright but a little bit lightly . May come back again for noodles
best Cantonese place! Flavours were authentic, heavy quantity too. Their roasted duck, bbq pork and roasted pork were just so tender and crispy! Love that they give their daily soup as a starter ☺️
The food here definitely deserves 5 stars! The menu is packed full of many tasty options its almost overwhelming.
Dishes ordered were: Two meats on rice (bbq pork & crispy pork), Sticky fried rice and Vegetarian hotpot.
The two meats on rice cost a little bit more than other places, but it was fantastic, probably the best in Auckland I've tried, pork was perfectly cooked & juicy, and they are generous with the veggies on the side.
The other two dishes were great and we had never ordered anything like it before.
Can't wait to go back and try more dishes.
If you like fried rice, this is the place for you, as they have many variations of it :D
Superb char siu(BBQ pork), roasted duck, roasted pork ...absolute my go to place for dinner and lunch. Their other made-to-order menu quite tasty too. Just one annoying thing is... when two persons for dine in highly likely will be share seat with other customers.
Best roast duck in Auckland. Great complimentary soup and tea. My favourite place for lunch. Good value for money. They can get very busy around lunch time. That means they are good.
Pretty much any authentic Chinese restaurant gets 4 stars from me. With everything on the menu designed to be shared, large tables to accomodate the whole gang and the familiar smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the restaurant from the chef sweating his butt off in the back, you’ll find it’s pretty damn hard to feel out of place in a restaurant like this. The food is near perfect every time and the portions aren’t for the faint of heart, so if your girlfriend eats like a horse you’ve come to the right place. The decor doesn’t scream fine dining and never does in places like this, & there’s a chance you’ll detect undertones of unsanitary practices but when you’re pressed for cash & looking for a hearty meal, there really isn’t time for critical analytics.
Will definently go back, been to other restaurants in Newmarket and the char su pork was damn damn good and would recommend everything else.
Conveniently located on khyber pass, canton grill seafood restaurant provides good Chinese cuisine always in good portions.
The restaurant is quite typical in terms of Chinese food and flavouring but doesn’t disappoint if you’re after a satisfying meal.
They provide free soup to start and dessert to finish as well, with a selection of bbq dishes (try the bbq pork and roast duck!) Great for families!
Great for family and friend dinners and gatherings.
Good food and convenient location. Can also takeaway nice canton food too.

I am Chinese and this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Auckland. My family and I coming weekly to this restaurant for years since it has opened yet very satisfied about the consistency of the food quality. Their BBQ duck, pork ribs and pork slices are my favorite. The food portion are generous. I think if they upgrade the interior decoration they will triple their customers, even though they are full everytime I go there.
I loved this place. The food was amazing and big portion too. You will come back just for the food. Good location as well with friendly staff.
Came here with 2 friends and ordered a bit too much. But everything was pretty decent so no complaints. The only thing to improve would be the presentation. Service was on par too.
The black pepper lamb chops! Highly recommended!
The prawns were nice and from fresh frozen. The dipping sauce was excellent. Would recommend also.
Beans were charred and cooked well.
Roast pork had crunchy skin. Duck was not bad. These were to a normal standard.
Would return.
I was fairly sceptical when my co-worker was saying this place has the best good roast duck when we were heading there for lunch. It was full and so we shared one of the larger tables with strangers, which is common in Asia. The menu had quite a lot of standard dishes like fried noodles and fried rice but we were there for the duck so I had a 2 BBQ combination on rice for $13.80. The roast duck was actually quite nice but I thought that the star of the place was the char siu pork. It was crispy and sticky and was quite sweet. Once you had a piece you wanted more. Portions weren't too bad either.
I have been told that their other dishes were quite average but I haven't tried it so can't say but I know that the BBQ meats here are top notch. Probably my favourite char siu in Auckland but I've had marginally better roast duck elsewhere.
A not so little Chinese restaurant on Kyber Pass. Specialty include a full range of Chinese roasts and fresh seafood cooked to order.
Most of the menu items are priced comparably to some of the other Chinese restaurants in the area. So it’s not too expensive.
The stand out dishes that I enjoyed are their Roast Duck and the stir-fried glutinous rice. So of the dishes lacked seasoning, it could have done better with a touch more salt or soy sauce.
Overall, I rate this place a 4. For its decently priced good food in a easily accessible location.
this place hands-down has the best barbecue/crispy pork in town! definitely quality over quantity & bonus points for the free soup when you dine in 👌🏼
Good value for money. The roast meats are probably one of the best in auckland. The place is pretty busy at lunch, but the wait isn't too bad.
Their $10 lunch specials are amazeballs. Good value for money, free soup/broth of you eat there, only downer is that you may have to share a table when its busy/crowded. Decor is meh; also right next to bus stop but if you happen to be in area around lunch time it's worth it. One best young chow fried rice dishes in auckland ample serving size and generous with pork/prawns, duck and bbq pork on rice also reasonable, really can't complain for $10 dine in.
This was a walk in meal, we had no idea what we were doing but checked the Zomato app before walking in and looked like something we could afford. Totally blown away by the great service we received even though we were clearly out of our element with the amount of different options avaliable. My grandparents, friend and I were given help with the menu and the food was absolutely delish! Would 100% go back there again for a meal!
Canton Grill is a very good Chinese restaurant. They are more on the good restaurant side but what's great is they serve rice dishes which is perfect for lunch. Big tables and good service. I go around Auckland ordering Chinese crispy pork and theirs is a bit different where the fat is rendered down more so you feel less sinful of what you're eatinf 😂 but ultimately you can clearly taste the seasoning and it's go-od.
Went here for lunch with work colleagues. AMAZING!
The service was quick and efficient. Despite the slight language barrier they knew what you wanted by simply pointing to what you order feom your menu. The portions were enormous and the price is fabulous. Fresh beautiful food and so so tasty. Will be back her again for sure.
Thank you.
My mum and I always come here for lunch or buy meat to take away. The portions are quite large for its price. The dishes are very delicious and well seasoned. I recommend this restaurant.
Stumbled on this place by accident but was presently surprised! Really cheap but also tasty-with soup and tea provided on arrival.
We had roast duck and crispy pork on rice. For only $12.80 it's a bargain and a hearty big meal. Amazing tasting pork and duck-just simple!
Need to try a few more things on the menu but keen to try again soon. Only shame was the chilli oil had no heat at all-and as a chilli fiend that was a disappointment.
We visit the place once a week and never failed us to give complimentary soup which my daughter really like and rice tea after we eat. Place is clean especially the white table cloth that they change every after meal. Good service and friendly staff!
Authentic Cantonese food with very speedy service. They are having anniversary promotion at the moment and the steamed blue cod is only $20 for a limited time. Definitely worth a try!
I've tried many places for bbq meat on rice and Canton by far has my number 1 spot! The bbq pork and roast pork on rice was great, plenty of meat, fast service and friendly staff!
Have been here a few times. Not a large dining area and they have lots of large tables. So if you go on a small group you may end up having to share your table with strangers if it gets busy.
Their roast meat in on display is barbecued to perfection. You get complimentary soup on arrival as well as Chinese tea. Food is delicious and they have large portions.
I recommend going with a bigger party of people because of the large portioned dishes. That way, you'll be able to try more dishes and guarantee a table to yourselves.
Went to this place on Chinese New Years day with a couple of mates and we were all impressed with the food and service. Peking Duck was great, Sweet and Sour Prawns great and to finish things off we were given a plate of cherries for dessert. Worth a visit if you haven't been as it is a hidden gem!
Another one of my regulars, Great place for Cantonese style food, prices are above average here but you would expect that with the food quality. Portion sizes are large and staff are nice. Recommend to book in advance before coming.
Went there for a work function and had the most beautiful food.. Crayfish noodle bowl was so big i couldnt get my arms around it with chunks of cray the size of your fist. Pork and duck amazing, best Ive had outside of Otahuhu, and lamp chops were huge and well crusted. Whole fish was pretty average tho, and the chicken was okay. Portions are huge. Decor pretty dated and almost dusty looking and staff not very professional. Girl was eating her dinner at the cash register as she served me and waiters speak little to no english.
Unfortunately all paid for so no idea on pricing, but good place for a function, they very happy to have you b.y.o.
Photos are terrible but you get the idea
Recommend take away... The roasted duck is the best ever I tried in the auckland.. The half size of roasted duck only cost $13... Thats the way toooooo cheap!!! and the taste is just too delicious. Used to live nearby, when i get hungry, alwasy get that
Really nice Southern Chinese food. If you go for a whole Peking duck ask for iceberg lettuce with duck mince, it costs only a few dollars extra and definitely worth it. Might taste slightly salty, but the fresh lettuce balances it out nicely. Other dishes are of a good quality as well and portions are decent. Favourite Chinese BYO in Newmarket
The servings at this restaurant are always very generous. They start you off with a large bowl of soup which is always delicious and improves my appetite. I usually get the egg fried noodles which are always really well seasoned and delicious. I pretty much always order one dish for around $15 that can easily 2-3 people. Love this place!
We had dinner at this restaurant a few nights ago. Recommended by a friend. Generally the restaurant was quite pleasant. Service was normal. Cleanliness was acceptable but parking could be a stress.
As for the dishes, personally I think there were quite normal. Taste could be salty sometimes. But price of the dishes were pretty pricy. If you are thinking of just a normal budget for a good dinner, this is not the place for you. But if you want to try a new restaurant and do not mind the price then why not give it a go.

Only want to spend $10-$15 for a huge plate of fried rice enough to feed 3? This is the place to go. The fried rice isn't lacking in any way and the roast pork is delicious. However, the noodle soup is a bit bland.
Best place to get roast duck or pork in town and reasonable prices.
A standard roast meat on rice with veg will cost $9.80 for takeaway or $8.50 if dining in, and if dining in you get the extra option of getting a large bowl of pork bones soup to start.
Service is average, or poor if they're super busy during peak hours but the food more than makes up for it. Their roast duck is delicious, with lots of meat and crispy skin.
Their prices for half and whole ducks are $20 and $38 which is a little on the expensive side, but if you just order the lunch dish on rice then it's great value for money.
Hard to tell in the pic but that's a decent amount amount of roast duck on that plate. All in all I'd highly recommend this place for lunch.
I had a tofu with roast pork and fish fillet on rice for lunch today. It tasted so good and the portion was very big, I loved the fried tofu in it especially which was definitely flavourful.
If you are after some tasty affordable Hong Kong style BBQ meats without the fancy decor, then this place is a must. I must admit this is one of the places I frequent to get my Hong Kong BBQ meat fix overtime I come to Auckland.
If dining in and you order BBQ meat(s) on rice, the portions are very large where one dish is enough to feed 2.
Check out my website for an in-depth review.
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and looks clean and new (unless you get stuck in the awkward side room next to the tower of takeaway boxes). We come here often for lunch as the food is tasty and the lunch menu is well priced. At the moment they are doing a lunch special on their rice and roast crispy pork/ bbq pork/ roast duck for only $8 but not sure how long this special will last for. As with most Asian canton restaurants, you get free green tea and free (very tasty) soup before your meal . My favourite lunch items are the crispy roast pork (which is especially great when it is freshly roasted) and the combination noodles (best when you order the noodles to be crispy). Their roast duck is also tasty but their laksas are a bit of a hit and miss depending on what day you go. Their portions are always generous and at lunch prices of mostly less than $14 its a great cheap eat! We have not had their dinner menu so cannot comment on that. The wait staff are quite nice and their English is enough to take orders with. The only big issue here is the male (manager?) who needs be friendlier. He always seems unhappy to be there are is often quite rude hence the lowering of the rating. Would recommend eating for lunch.
It was my second visit to this restaurant in two years. Reasonably clean, good service, friendly staff. The food is still really good by a bit pricey for Chinese restaurant but quality is higher than other places in Newmarket.
Will come again.
The BBQ/ Roast pork and duck are absolutely delicious here!! Big portions of rice, veges, and meat for cheap too!! Each dish was $10-12 each if I remember correctly.
The staff are okay, just a small mishap when the waitress didn't write down our order and just walked off and a table next to us got their food first despite arriving 15 minutes after us 😒 had to notify the waitress myself and she quickly rectified the problem and our meals came along. She might have been new and she seemed quite flustered but oh well, the food definitely made up for it!
Also got a bowl of complimentary soup each which was flavourful!
I'll be back again for more 😁 roast duck and bbq pork cravings satisfied!!
Canton Grill's servings are very generous. If you dine in, your meal begins with a huge bowl of soup. Two items (e.g. Fried rice, fried noodles) from the ala carte menu is definitely enough for three people. The food here tends to be on the oily side so if you aren't a fan you may like to take that into consideration when deciding what to order. I would recommend the roast duck on rice, Fujian style fried rice and beef fried rice noodles with gravy egg.
Yummy food, I always come this place for dinner and love the food so much roast duck my fav. Roast pork. My baby's birthday today we come this place again all very good food, every one happy and enjoy enjoy enjoy enjoy.
Super yum yum yum food.
Time and date: Every fortnight weekday dinner
Food ordered: Roast pork, roast duck, specialty tofu, steamed chicken, complementary soup, curry pumpkin with chicken and etc
Taste: adequate and mouth watering
Food comments: quite large in portions for all, bbq pork has very crunchy skins, the complementary soup are always delicious, most of the food on the cabinet is good
Service: very friendly and accommodating
Environment: One of the down side is that the place does not look very pleasant inside, but adequately clean and tidy
Cost : $30 pp on average
Will I return : definitely
I love this place!
The complimentary souls they serve before your main meal is amazing. I always fight my friends for seconds. Not physically, but I will if I have to. That's how good it is!
We came on my friends birthday and they were really helpful with storing the cake, helping me light the candles and having birthday boy distracted.
Visited on a whim as all nearby restaurants were busy with a friend and ordered the Seafood laksa while my friend ordered beef with rice. We were given complimentary soup as a starter which was a pleasant surprise because most Chinese restaurants only do that if your bill is over a certain value. The seafood laksa I ordered was simply enormous- having been to Mamak and Selera, I was prepared for a huge bowl but this one honestly takes the cake. It could have easily fed 3-4 people! The flavour of the laksa itself was just okay for me, it's nothing on other places though. Regretfully we couldn't finish our dishes but the staff were lovely and that was a really nice change from the typical brusque attitudes you usually get elsewhere.
This place has an amazing soup for the entree and all of their dishes are very big and for a very good price too. They are most well known for their roast duck, roast pork and bbq pork which are all very nicely made. They are mostly suited for larger groups of people and as their dishes are so big they are better for many people between fewer dishes so that you can try a bit of everything.
Canton Grill Seafood is an absolute must try for fans of Canton (Southern China + HK) or Chinese cuisine. I wouldnt say its amazing that it distinguishes it from other Chinese restraunts that has been continuing popping up around Auckland recently. CGS is priced higher than most chinese restraunts but their proportion sizes are very generous. Their 'lai tong' or starting soup is very well done. Their BBQ meats are also a must try and I would say be in around the top group in Auckland. However their service is a bit wayward such as when had the tea cup open to be refilled, took them a good 6 minutes before refill considering how small their space is. Also we didnt get rice until we asked them which is a bit unusual for a Canton restraunt service. The tea (which i think is very important) was standard but could have a bit more leaves. The restraunt was clean and very efficient (took only 10 minutes before our first dish arrived). Overall a very good Chinese restraunt and definitely a must try in Newmarket.
Been there several times, very authentic Cantonese cuisine, reasonable price. Staffs are being very helpful and friendly too.
Just like most Cantonese grilled restaurants there is no modern design, they make living with special grill technic.
I love the chicken topping up the spring onions and ginger paste.
Good portion of food service, you will definitely be fed up.
Very famous venue in Newmarket when you are craving for Cantonese grilled meats.
Awesome spot for a good value lunch. Had BBQ pork and Roast Duck with greens and chicken noodles. Food came out quickly and was super tasty.
Authentic Cantonese cuisine And atmosphere.
Wontons are big and plump full of pork and prawn, with some vegetables stock.
Three roast meats hit the spot perfectly roasted, delicious portion.
Brasied Brisket was ave, but huge portion.
And free soup when you are seated
Not great service 1*
Will definitely come again and try rest of menu.

Would very much 6 star this if possible.
The value for money was better than anywhere I have considering the size and quality of the dishes. We got a free soup which I was dubious on from another review but was assured was free so why not. This was a relatively simple broth but very tasty!
There wasn't much by way of table service whicih might not be for everyone, but it was easy to get someone's attention if you needed something. I prefer the space and would rather pay for quality meals than regular table visits.
The dishes you in the photos see were $14 and $15 and are larger than normal dishes I have seen elsewhere. Plus we had the free soup, oh and free tea. All up $29 and we had nearly a full takeaway dish to bring home.
***One thing that may be of important note, there's a book menu and there's a laminated sheet menu, which we ordered off. I noted the prices were very different, not sure what that was about but would make a big difference in value!
Also, some said they wish there was chilli sauce to use, they have it in the cabinet just ask.
Dish around 15$, enough for 2 people to share. Large portions. Many ppl pack their leftovers. Free chicken soup served. Tastes good but i wish they would have some chili sauce. Feel like local chinese restaurant.
Great Asian food at a great price. Have dined here three times already. The roast duck with rice and Bokchoi for $15 was excellent at the price. Recommended
Really delicious meal... crispy pork was sooo crispy & the prawns were plump & plentiful. Recommended by a friend & glad we decided to go. Book ahead, we were there on a Sunday evening & it was full.
Authentic Cantonese cuisine, offering something for everyone from quick lunch to exquisite cuisine, food is always cooked to perfection and yummy
The sweet and sour pork here is not like any other you (pakeha) have tried. It is so authentic and tastes incredible. Meals are large and filling. The duck is gorgeous too. Service is really good.
Still one of the best restaurants for Cantonese food. Although the service of the waitress especially one of the old women was poor, the food continue to maintain the good standards. Very traditional Cantonese food, the best roast pork I had in Auckland. Big portion, good taste. You can't go wrong with this restaurant.
BBQ duck is delicious. Full house in a Sunday lunch time.
I Regularly go here for lunch with coworkers. The food is nice for the price. When dinning in you get a free soup to start. The food you get is generous. I also do takeaway, and that's usually pretty quick. Overall it's a great place to go for lunch in Newmarket. Make sure to check the specials as you can get some good deals. Having said that, a few coworkers find it hard to find things they like off the menu and there isn't very good vegetarian choices
Quite good although they had run out of any items on the lunch menu plus their customer service is not so good, people and groups who arrives after us got their food first.
