Meat lover's delight!
This great little deli in the Victoria Park Market complex produces amazing dry-cured smallgoods which makes for an excellent lunch. We sampled the chorizo salad, beef salad and some cevapi and they were just delicious. If we lived in Auckland, we would be regular customers.
Really enjoyed the Serbian cevapi meatballs. Came with chips, bread and a capsicum dip. Delicious! The area itself, Victoria Park Market is so dead you feel like you’re walking through a morgue but Salash will prolly outlast any other cafe in the area.
If you're a meat freak like me, then this is the place to go to. They're very innovative with the food they make, which pretty much convinced me to buy their Beef Burger. That juice from the patty though, so good once you taste and the vegetables in the burger are nice and fresh as well. It's money well spent, I gotta say.
The service here was alright, really nice and friendly when I was making my order. The waiting time was alright as well, I guess the good food take longer to cook.
Just looking from the outside, it looks like those upper class cafes only to realise that it's a Delicatessan shop. It also has that classic homemade feel, probably because their kitchen is pretty much in the open to see when the meats are cooked. Which I think is pretty cool, it's totally worth coming back.
I had to stop by here after I saw them advertise their stuffed burger on instagram. The stuffed burger was a patty made from beef, pork and lamb stuffed with cheese and dried meats.
I loved it. I loved the patty, the bun, the sauce. Couldn't fault it. I will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items.
They also probably have the best salami that I have had in NZ. So if you are a cured meats lover then you definitely have to pop in. They also have a stand at La Cigale on the weekends selling their cured meats.
The Chorizo burger is honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten, it almost needs its own cult following. The dried meats on hand are great if you want something to snack on whilst waiting for your chorizo burger to be made.
We visit the Salash stand at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market every Sunday and buy the most delicious sausages and bacon on crispy buns, smothered in mustard and tomato sauce.
Having travelled through Europe, I've visited countries like The Czech Republic, Austria and Germany and tried so many sausages and bratwursts there, but they don't come close to comparing to the taste or quality that you find in Salash sausages.
It's also wonderful to know that there are no 'hidden ingredients' in them - no MSG, preservatives or other funny chemicals. Just plain meat and spices!
I cannot rate them enough!
Spicy sausage sandwich/salad are killer. As is the burger. Amazing meats, free range and preservative free and you can tell because they are bursting with real flavour. Large selection of cured meats to take home (including the spicy sausages! :D).
Apparently the best steak sandwich in Auckland, but I always go for the sausage salad :-) Seating isn't great, basically just concrete benches, but most people takeaway and eat somewhere else. Tasting of the various salamis is also on offer! You have to be a meat lover to come here., but the meats are fantastic! Everything is cooked fresh behind the counter.
