Amazing donuts! All the staff are pretty cool and the place is beautiful, I recommend for everyone!
Best Pies ever! Tasty and delicious food! Fantastic atmosphere and awesome staff! Thank you very much for your passion! Great Caterer as well! Always on time and perfectly delivered!
Delicious donuts and quiche! The pies look amazing too I will have to try them next.
Popped in here for a spot of breakfast and a catch up with some colleagues. The coffee was great and the others raved about the chocolate croissant and bagel. The Eggs Benedict was decent too.
Rating: 4. Rustic industrial decor hardly scream cozy on first impression. However, the staff were really friendly, along with the delicious & hearty food, this is a nice place to come for lunch & retreat from the office. The seafood chowder was simple, creamy, with great chunky pieces of tuna, prawns & cockles. The sourdough soldiers were just as good, crunchy & tangy.
Came on a Friday morning, was really busy but still plenty of tables available. Great selection of cabinet food, both sweet and savoury. Ordered a pistachio croissant (delicious!) and cappuccino. Coffee was strong and had lots of milk froth, just how I like it. The let down of the place was that the waitress didn’t know what order went to which table, better to have table numbers than get things wrong, as I saw happen several times.
Got the bounty bar coconut slice. Delish little place for coffee and treats.
The bounty bar tasted like it was sweetened with honey, felt slightly healthy but tasted great
DELICIOUS!!! My favourite new cafe! The lemon curd donut was massive and delicious and so reasonably priced! Also had the bacon, egg and haloumi nap fresh made which was yum too and also the rum ball which just tastes like raw cookie dough so good! The service was fast and decor nice. All the cabinet looks mouthwatering!
Amazing place to have coffee and amazing options from their Bakery section.
Their donut are like "No one can eat just one".
My favorite is espresso.
Savoury Muffins are good, I expect bit more on that.
Cakes are definitely so good 👌
Big cafe definitely popular with local business workers. No one greets you as such you grab a table and go up and order. The cabinet food is very appealing. Smallish menu but covers everything.
Great spot in the morning as the sun pours in.
We ordered:
Slow scrambled eggs
Potato rosti
Decent portions and well presented food.
Good service and good coffee! My go to when in the city for work hardest thing is trying to pick what you want from their delish cabinet. If your in the area it’s a must try
It has always been a good start of a day when you had good breakfast. Visited Scratch many times for brunch or quick take away coffee. Their food and coffee are really nice. Always visit here whenever in town.
Food and coffee: 4/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 3.5/5
I personally think this is the best coffee in the viaduct area. There is a really great scrambled egg and tomato in a ciabatta roll that I love to purchase. I've had one "bad" experience where my poached eggs were served hard (couldn't tell if that was intentional) but I was a bit pushed for time so didn't bother asking for it to be remade.
Directly opposite NZME, Scratch Café is another swanky cafe that is situated in the more corporate area of Auckland. I was rather disappointed with myself for not ordering something off their menu because of some of the fantastic pictures that have been loaded up by the Auckland-Zomato community.
I myself went for a lamb pie which was gorgeous but pricey in my opinion, definitely a quality pie but a bit of a penny pincher. I also wanted to treat myself and being rather autocratic about my health I had a glistening pink donut with caramelized blood orange on top. A wonderful choice at the moment and a questionable choice for the stomach line, Scratch Café is a great place to try and have a bite in.
Showstopper: Just a swell café to grab a bite at
Overall Grade: B
Came here for breakfast on a weekday. These guys do a roaring trade with all the businesses nearby. Service was ok. The food was beautiful. I ordered Hotcakes with vanilla, salted caramel butter and brioche crumbs. These were sooo good. The salted caramel butter was so bad for me, yet so good. Coffee was nice n strong. Just as well I work around here. I look forward to coming back.
Scratch has a very good bakery. Almost every item from the bakery counter tasted delicious. My favourite are custard donut, croissant or the spicy pork burger. Shop is decorated in a simple way but clean and full of windows. Staffs are also helpful and friendly.
Do possess some complex in the 1960s age. So am not that into modern style. When I parked my car outside of this bakery, definitely was a love-at-first-sight.
High ceiling, square and line elements flowing, ceiling windows, quality wooden table, designed chairs, natural texture, industrial ambience... What I can say. Just walk in and keep on falling in love.
It is a bakery, so please keep it simple for the expectation. As for coffee, waiter reminded me of this rule: we only have basic coffee, long black, latte, flat white... Like it! Especially for someone who has choice difficulties. And it is also a hint that they make Great Coffee!
At a time of 3 in the afternoon, you might be a bit disappointed like me, for the fact that most of the deli are sold out. Was looking for donuts, however, ended up with a macadamia Brioche. Not bad. When it came after this beautiful flat white, it was all made up.
There I was. Sitting in the afternoon sun, having a full-body flat white, full of hearty aroma company a little sweet treat. Even though two businessmen sitting behind me seemed discussing some stock issue, my mind filtered their talk and kept me concentrated in this relaxed atmosphere. Let alone the good music floating in the air.
They say the early bird catches the worm. However, a late bird like me, still gets the treat.
This place deserves a 5 rating for the donuts alone. The ever changing flavours and the cheap mini size make myself and my colleagues very happy. Keep up the good work!
Scratch is a recent addition to the Victoria Park development. It's a popular spot which serves its own unique menu.
I came here for a late breakfast with a few colleagues of mine. We were lucky to get a table considering we didn't book, the staff were friendly in assisting us getting the right spot.
Scratch serve sparkling water, which is a nice touch.
I ordered the eggs benny, which took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. One of my eggs was poached perfectly, the other was just a little too firm.
I was full once I finished, but more bacon would've been nice.
I suggest trying a smoothie as they are made with fresh fruit and the flavors change regulary.
There's a good selection of cabinet food of you're in a hurry, their sausage rolls are very good and sell just as quick.
This place is a bit pricey and I hope to see the menu expand in the near future.
This cafe is definitely on my list of one of those places where you just want to keep coming back for more. I had the pulled pork brioche which tasted amazing with the creme. Also got some doughnuts from their cabinet which is perfect if you're in need of an afternoon sugar rush! Waiter was super attentive, loved the service. Cafe is super spacious with lots of couches! Feels super welcoming.

Lovely place for a weekend brunch. Classy atmosphere and a sophisticated menu. One of the best hot chocolates I've had.
Had the Buttermilk Hotcakes and the Shitake Omlette. Very well presented and extremely delicious! Would love to be back.
I come hete for lunch quite frequently. Their donuts are irresistible! And their pies are the ultimate comfort food with the most perfectly crisp pastry.
I have had the beef brisket pies many times and it's awesome.
I have not ordered anything from their menu yet but my friend did order a salad from thete before with prawns and zucchini which looked lovely.
Their baked items always look lovely but I tend to always go for the donut! Will definitely be returning!
Yummy doughnuts. I pass by and I always cannot resist something. Sweet. I tried their espresso chocolate doughnut and was yummy!!! Even though I ate it the next day, it was still fresh.
The cafe is big, spacious and bright. Great place to chill and have a coffee.
Walking in at around 10:30 place already looked pretty busy. We were welcomed by friendly staff and ordered at the counter coffees and pie and some counter food. Waitress warned us about -15 minutes wait. Coffees came first, obviously, and total wait for pie was around 20 minutes, so we almost finished our already cold coffee. Sparkling water was provided to the table(that's great) and food had a good taste. After that, we noticed cafe started getting busy, and so some tables were getting left dirty and new walk-ins were sitting there waiting for attention. Guess it was one of those under staffed situation by the look of it. Good atmosphere all around and very warm on a windy winter day.
Previously gave this place a 4.5 due to great service and breads
However today disappointed
Had the potato leek soup: 3/5. Was a runny texture and wasnt creamy or rich at all.
Lady at the counter forgot our order for our donut which meant we had to go ask for it again and pay.
The cutley were also dirty with stuff on them.
Up your game again please guys!
I still remember the friendly guys when I visited around two years ago things seemed a little different
But the donut which was a lemon meringue thyme flavour was amazing!
Great cafe with lots of choices from the menu and the cabinet. There's a vegetarian pie which is super tasty! Our food took ages to come but it was worth the wait.
Decide to go to Scratch today as my friend suggest their doughnut is good... When we arrived I couldn't decide what I want to get as everything looks amazing! I end up getting the espresso doughnut and totally loved it! Will definitely go back and try their gourmet pie very soon!
Okay, I work adjacent Scratch Bakers. Their coffee isn't all that crash hot compared to Elk which is next door to the south - as is evident by the crazy lines - but for what they lack in barista ability, they more then make up for it with their fantastic baking. I enjoyed an amazing pulled pork pie here last week, and it was quite literally the most incredible pie I've ever tasted - and I'm Aussie, from the land of good pie. The pastry just melted in my mouth, and there was a nice tasting sauce in the box that the pie came in (can't put my finger on the flavour - had a real spice taste). I actually came back the next day to see if I could get another one, but they'd all sold out by about 1pm, so make sure you get in early.
They also do great donuts of the week - the flavour last week had salted caramel and peanut butter at its centre. Is an expensive donut, but worth a try at least once!
Edit - I've had the Ginger slice, and their Chicken and Herb pie now. I swear, all their food is delectable. So well made, great tasting, and quick service. I've upped my review to 4.5.
Scratch has a very industrial feel to it with concrete floors, metal framing around the kitchen and wooden tables. A very modern space with fitting furniture and very comfy cushions! The menu is small but has everything you need. I decided to be a bit adventurous and went for the prawn omelette which had a definite kick to it and was very full of flavour! My partner ordered the wagu mince which was a verry generous portion and seasoned well. The smoothies were also a hit (both the banana and peanut butter ones) but the serving glasses were just a tad too thin. Overall a good lunch/brunch spot!

Strongly recommended if you work nearby. They have one of the best coffee in the Victoria Street area. Food was delicious and offers a great range of cabinet food.
New favourite cafe alert :-) Definitely get here a bit earlier than you think, since there was a never ending queue of amateur diners trying to feed at the holy grail of inner city bakeries... I was always a fan of Scratch when the cafe was based down at Cityworks (most amazing sandwiches), and could never work out where it disappeared to :-) However their new incarnation is superb and roomy, with a massive bakery operation behind the till providing delicacies for over fifty cafes around the city. Thanks to lovely Lucy for the awesome service, and was very impressed by their smooth and luscious homemade cola and lavender soda!
Another regular morning stop. Love the coffee at Scratch. The home made chocolate marshmallows add a sweet touch to the coffees and are absolutely delicious. The walnut, blue cheese and fig brioches are a favourite and are lift and fluffy. If you get a chance, try the Pork belly and apple cider pie. You will not regret it!
Love this place, a really good selection of well made cafe foods, and they've made an effort to do things differently. A variation of brioches instead of the usual muffins, also they make small cakes if you just want a small bite of something sweet.
There is also a good selection of more substantial meals if you're looking for something more. We tried the duck brioche and the prawns, both were innovative in the cooking and delicious.
Excellent coffee and really good service rounded of a great experience
Cute bakery/cafe in the city - great for catching up with a friend over a beverage (coffee is average) and a sweet treat. The menu is quite limited and food is pretty pricey so wouldn't really consider it a place I'd visit regularly.
The atmosphere is fantastic with big windows to let lots of light in and plenty of comfy cushions to relax in. Service was pretty good and place was clean.
I have no idea how this bakery has received ratings below 5 as their food was in my opinion, out of this world. However, I havent actually tried any of their items on their kitchen menu except for the duck brioche which I thought was phenomenal; especially the brioche which was baked to order. But the standouts from scratch bakers would DEFINITELY have to be their amazing piesss! with almost 7 options available, they cater to meat lovers and vegetarians with options like
~ pork belly & apple cider~ mushroom and cheesee~beef cheek and tomato~chicken and white wine etcetc, there was even a goat one mmmm
After asking the counter staff which was the most popular, I ended up choosing the pork belly pie and im so glad I did; seriously the best pie I have ever had in my life 10/10; highly reccommended! I had also had little sneaky bites from my friends' chicken pie and mushroom ones too and these were also really good, but pork belly & apple cider was a winner for me.
After endulging in our pies, we decided to share three of their donuts and a creme brulee tart. The tart was a little extra on the side and was really yum for only $4, but the donuts stole the spot light in the cabinet
Lemon curd & custard donut: as many of the reviews had mentioned, this is one of their MUST GETS when visiting; filled with a generous amount of curd and custard, these fluffy light donuts were amazingly good, try it you wont regret ;D
The chocolate hazelnut donut and chocolate espresso donuts werent as mindblowing, but still realllly good especially if you're a chocolate fan; the espresso one was the favourite of these two for me tho :)
Overall, ambiance and food was 10/10 , and the service was impeccable! seriously; best customer service I'd received in a long while ( thank you to Britney who was extremely helpful and friendly, someone give this girl a raise D:. Definitely returning for more :)
p.s. they serve sparkling water *_*
The waiter recommended the potato waffle and roastes chicken so we ordered these two to share. The flavours in both dishes were soooo divine. The roastes chicken was especially tender. Definitely would come back here!

I was so happy when this cafe opened up near my work. We have limited dining options so this cool cafe was a great addition.
I usually just order coffee and doughnuts but I have been here for breakfast too.
Firstly, I love the decor of this place. It has an industrial look and the decor is instagrammable to say the least. You can order from their menu or get the food from the cabinet. I got sucked in by the doughnuts and got obsessed that I ordered it every week. I love the lemon curd doughnut the best but all flavours were pretty good. Not cheap at $5 a piece though.
When I went here for breakfast I got the potato waffle with salmon. It was pretty good and filling.
It's Friday and been 2 days in a row for breakfast! Finally an original brunch menu and all dishes so far have been extremely well presented with care and attention and great flavours! I should say how great it is or it will get too busy but get along and even though the cabinet food amazing.... The brunch menu is outstanding
I used to love dropping by scratch for breakfast and then popping next door to three beans to grab a cuppa coffee. But now that there's scratch HQ , i am definitely getting the best of both worlds. And i can dine in and order hot food too! I absolutely love the decor and the layout of the place. It's very spacious, comfortable seating area, I never want to leave when i come here. I am really happy with the food too. I can either grab something from the cabinet if i want to do a quick one. Otherwise I'll order something from their new menu. I've tried their waffle with salmon and egg. I was very satisfied with the flavour, the pairing of food and the portion overall. Coffee was great as I am a fan of three beans. This is probably my new favourite place in this area of town for breakfast. Yet to try their lunch!
Coffee review loved it! Full of flavour and great latte art :)
And a great cafe to boot nice environment and friendly staff.
Overall great cafe.
Great industrial look Scratch has gone for, similar to Depot.
The Sun dried tomato and spinach brioche toasted with tomato aasundi was outstanding and the coffee was pretty good - no bloody biscotti again FML Auckland!
The cabinets are full of amazing food and the menu looked really interesting will come back for sure.
Amazing carrot cake, and chia latte. All good looks amazing. Staff are super helpful and place is lively. Worth a detour. Shout out to Caitlin who was great!
Meat pies are so good! Can't speak for the rest of the pastries and stuff because I did not have room for them. Just beware if you order tea here, they use tiny teapots.
Vibe is appropriately industrial yet very fitting, just needed more stomach space!
We visited Scratch for brunch yesterday. We can see why is place so busy - the service, drinks and food were absolutely fantastic. Drinks and hot food delivered to our table within 10 minutes and the place was packed. Very impressed. The staff were always busy doing something and not just standing around looking at their phones. The best Cafe in Auckland we've been to.
Come here often for great coffee!
The small little prosciutto-truffle croissant is amazing.
Would love large version of it.
Pistachio croissant was a letdown, taste a bit too much like an artifical flavour.
Chocolate cruffin was very nice.
The place gets busy but won't let you down. Staff Is pretty onto it!
We ordered the rib eye sandwich to share and a raspberry mint tea. No cold black tea here. The sandwich was a bit disappointing with a thin, tough slice of steak. The order taker did deliver to the table but did not seem to be having a good day as we smiled and tried to engage a little bit.
Best cafe in town by far! Amazing coffee, yummy breakfast, a great looking cabinet of which everything is made on site in the bakery hence the name "Scratch" such a nice atmosphere and the staff are lovely too.
We had a catch up coffee during lunchtime at Scratch Bakers in the city and I was immediately impressed by how stunning the wooden concrete interiors were with a very urban chic feel to the establishment. The espresso was impressive that a had a couple of soy lattes and a hazelnut double chocolate meringue which was fudgey, chewy and so chocolatey. Simply divine coffee experience that warrants a lunching experience next time!
My daily from work. Got to watch the waist line as everything is delicious. Pistachio Croissant my personal fav. Great coffee too.

The sausage roll!!! I don't have to say much more. Be prepared to wait a bit if you get their late during lunch rush as they are busy!!!
That was pretty great; easy to say that haha. Spacious, welcoming shop with plenty of seating and shelves full of tempting treats. Many of their sandwiches seem to be prepared earlier that morning, ready for toasting, and still tasted great with a dash of plated flair. Don't forget about the pies either as I wouldn't have even noticed them if my friend didn't point them out to me. They run weekly specials too so took them up on that plus a balanced Snickers donut (not your normal donut). So much to look forward to eating next time.
Best cafe in Auckland, amazing service and incredible service. Healthy, and delicious.
Stopped in for a late breakfast. The cafe is tucked into a loop, making it a bit hard to see from the road. The scones, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches were all excellent. I'll be back.
~ Best avocado on toast in town!
All food is delicious here. Good indoor and outdoor seating.
Good breakfasts and lovely bakery food. Eat here for breakfast when stay at the Ramada. Good value for money. If it’s your thing posts of radio personalities frequent this during their breaks as NZME is directly opposite.
