First yum cha in Auckland, here in Hees Garden, the foods was nice and yummy. The porridge a bit tasteless but still ok and all the other yum cha served hot which was very nice and yummy
Came in for breakfast before our flight last month. Bread was super soft and custard was creamy. Buns weren’t too big so we were still able to order and try other stuff without being too full.
Haven't been in a while. Food was nice but is more expensive than other Chinese restaurants we have been to recently. Had the duck, a pork dish and beef dish with Nasi Goreng.
Great authentic yum cha here. A hidden gem! The restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside so I was skeptical but just walking through the doors, the smell bought me back to canton China. There is a lot of choice, the portion sizing is big and the food is delicious.
Had yumcha with fam at Hees today. The service was speedy and efficient and the food are of high quality! The yumcha items weren't very creative but they were executed quite well. Their lunch session also runs quite late as most of the items can still be made to order/or are available after we got there at around 2:30pm.
Came here on Sunday with family at around 12. I was expecting to wait for a table for 6 people, but surprisingly we were seated right away as it wasn’t that busy yet.
The interior design will take to back to the traditional Chinese culture with the green roofed tiles and wooden-looking materials.
From medium to special dishes, we ordered a lot including prawn dumplings, chicken feet, squid, durian, vegetables, congee etc. Some yumcha has their own specialties and the specialties here are their beef stews and chicken feet stews; they’re amazingly flavorful.
The service varies from the waitresses as sometimes you’ll get bad service as they’ll just say ok or wait then ignore you. Other times you’ll get really good service and the waitress will bring the food right over to you. However, this is one of the better service yumchas I’ve been to.
The price was pretty good and reasonable; it’s more towards the expensive side for yumcha as it came to around $120.

First time coming to this restaurant and I was fascinated by the super Chinese decoration (even when I’m Chinese)
Came at 1pm on Sunday and waited for 15mins to get a tiny table for two of us. Perhaps it was because the peak hour was almost gone so we could get the seats quickly.
But the drawback was that there were less food presenting on the trolley and we had to order the dimsum (it’s the fun part when you can see what’s inside the bamboo steamer and pick the ones you love!)
We only had 6 dishes (prawn dumplings x2, siumai, rice roll, tofu roll (?) and sesame balls). Everything was piping hot and dumplings and siumai were absolutely yum.
I would say the wrapping for prawn dumpling and rice rolls was a bit too thick and sesame balls were super satieting.
Eventually we had to put the sesame balls in takeaway box because we were about to have food coma😂
Service was nice but the staff seemed not to be too good at English.
Came here on Saturday with family for yum cha before the crowd arrived. While I’m glad we beat the rush, the down side was that there wasn't a constant flow of food coming our way at this early hour of 11am.
Standout dishes were the siu mai (it was quite different to what we are normally used to, and was substantial) and the tripe (smaller and easier to eat; not too chewy). They also serve two different types of congee.
I found their service to be quite friendly. Overall, it’s a nice place to go if you’re in the neighbourhood – but I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it.
Best place to get a mean as feed of peking duck. Been a couple times and always leave satisfied, can usually find a voucher on grabone as well👍🏼👍🏼 I always end up ordering too much but all good . Still delicious and means taking home some for later
Been here for yum cha and dinner. Yum cha is generally very busy so make sure you called first. Their food are authentic and restaurant is spacious enough. Plenty of parking nearby. Really recommend their fish two ways (half salt&pepper and half stir fry with vege)
Dimsum is good and selection is varied. The fish congee is a favorite! I come here regularly and the ingredients are fresh. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and willing to accommodate special requests.
I like it here because they do not have time limit for yamcha or dimsum even on the weekends. It doesn't feel yamcha or relaxing at all when you were constantly being reminded that you have only 1 hour dining time, experience that I got from other yamcha restaurant. So when I was here I had a moment to really enjoy the food and my Sunday. Will come back again next time.
I'm surprised this place doesn't have many reviews considering it's been in Mt Eden for so long . We've been coming here for the last 18 years and most of the time the food has been good .
Service is average usually understaffed and takes some time to get what you ask for.
Tonight we had the Peking duck, sizzling chicken, egg fried rice and 5 spice tofu. Food wasn't up to the usual standard, the fried rice had a lesser quantity and not enough salt. The sizzling chicken was brought out so hot that the oil was splattering everywhere attacking my arm, but the waitress didn't seem to care. 5 spice tofu wasn't on point today but last time it was absolutely delicious. The Peking Duck was good but only 9 pancakes for a whole duck wasn't sufficient and we had to pay $5 for 9 extra .
I would have given it a 3 tonight but because we've been here on way too many occasions and some have been great, I know it can be a bit hit and miss.
Been awhile since I last came here; as a kid my favourite part about the restaurant was the little waterfall/fountain at the entrance, it adds a really nice oriental touch to the restaurant. Interior decor is also decorated to mimic the traditional Chinese architecture, with its roof and tiling details.
In terms of dishes there's not that much to select from. Dishes are standard dim sums, albeit my favourite that I haven't seen anywhere else is the bamboo/tofu roll with pork, mushroom and water chestnut filling--got two of those. Portion was decent and the textures of the chestnuts, mushroom and pork worked really well with the slightly chewiness of the bamboo tofu skin around it. Would recommend!
Their siu mai is also well done! Size-wise it's bigger than some other restaurants and it comes in fours, not threes. Generous filling and good flavours. This place is also relatively cheaper than other yumcha restaurants of similar quality.

Food was tasty, especially shumai and squid. Good seasoning and service. The price is affordable, get the discount when u come in Monday to Friday. Much better than I expectation. I love here!
Got the Grabone Peking duck for 2 for $46. Amazing deal, there was ALOT of duck for 2 people. Good tasting very meaty duck. The beansprout dish has a lot of Wok Hay and not too much MSG. The corn soup was very basic, so we chose not to drink it. Overall, pretty good meal.
Toilet is a bit old and dirty and probably should get that refurbished.
Great tasting food here, theres something for everyone. This time round they we're much faster in service and everything was on point. Just have to try the prawn dumplings.
One of THE go to places for Yum Cha in Auckland!
Authentic, prices are generally reasonable (ranging from $20 to $30 per pax) and quality of food has always been consistent.
Lost of star would be due to overall service(wait times for tables/food) and frustration to find parking with seating being quite cramped.
To Try's if you havent already: Beef tripe, chicken feet, fried yam
Nice to come back to Heed Garden Restaurant after 25 years later, great the owner running this famous restaurant for over 35 years, delivered so many delicious food.
Good peking duck. Was quiet when we went so service was quick. Left full good value.
One of the Best Asian restaurants in Auckland!! 😁 😋
Delicious and amazing. They were nice enough to accept a grab one voucher that expired in the lockdown. Super awesome service. Even changed the dish to accommodate my vegetarian son!
Food taste super good! Can taste the freshness from every dishes! The workers there are very friendly too, they will provide recommendations when you ask. It's the first and might be one of the best Chinese restaurant in Auckland. Not too busy during lunch hour :)
Great food. Busy restaurant. Range of clientel. Only one complaint and that is that there was too much onion used. The satay beef and sweet and sour pork were packed with onion. The duck with wraps and sauce was amazing. If you like roast duck this is a must try.
Nice fresh dumplings n quality taste. Staff are friendly n no time constraints especially that's what yum chai is about 😊. Reasonable price. Have tried other yum chai restaurants n disappointed with either time limited with booking allowed, extra charges for condiments, mass production with no quality taste or over price.
Delicious foods and very clean facilities, I enjoyed eating the Chinese foods they offer there. I think the staff were very friendly and clever, they can speak fluently in Chinese, Cantonese, and English. So don’t worry if you’re not too fluent, we all relate to that. The money is affordable, nothing too expensive. I hope everyone enjoys their time at Hee’s Garden Restaurant.
