Yummy food, great value for money. Ordered the classic thali and the South Indian platter. Curries were delicious and generous portions. The Masala chai was also delicious and will definitely be back to try their sweets. Their palak paneer is also a must try. Interior isn’t beautiful but the food makes up for it
Really blown away from my experience here - the staff were helpful guiding my limited knowledge of chaat in selecting options for takeaway and every dish traveled well, was flavorsome, fun and interesting. Highly recommend.
Mumbai Chaat is based in Sandringham. The restaurant itself doesn’t have its own parking however there is a public parking lot across the road and plenty of off street parking around. The customer service at Mumbai was good, interior decor tidy however it does look a tad run down so it could probably do with a bit of a clean and lick of paint. I only ordered a Dahi Puri but I plan to go back and try different chaats after some research so I know what to order. They have a variety of chaat and foods to choose from a menu board. You get 6 Dahi Puris for $8.90 which to me is an affordable price. It tasted just as good as the video I saw. The puri (puff casing) was light and crispy, inside the puri had a tiny cube of curried potato and a generous dallop of curd (yoghurt). Sprinkled on top was sev (chickpea noodle), tamarind chutney, green chutney and fresh coriander. The little snack is just a marriage of flavours which go so well. I loved the tanginess from the curd, the sweetness from the tamarind chutney and the fresh herb flavour from coriander and green chutney. You got a tiny kick of spice from the curried potato and then the crispiness from the sev adds texture to the chaat while the puri just brings the whole snack together. I definitely recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and trying this snack and restaurant to anyone wanting to see a different side to Indian Cuisine from butter chicken!
My favourite restaurant, been a million times and eaten nothing but delicious vegan food. Staff is always friendly about my veganism and accomodates me and gives me incredible food.
1 have been here couple of times and always liked the food. Their chaat is best. Recently tried beetroot sweet here and it was really good. Whenever we feel like eating Indian snacks this place comes first to our list.
I was thoroughly impressed with the taste of Gujarati dal and undhiyu. Mind blowing! I ate much more than my usual appetite. Can’t wait to go there again.
If you crave for Chaat this is the right place to jump in.. we had ordered Shev puri and samosa n it was so delicious that we ordered it again the same time..
The food is outstanding. Pure, authentic food with a lot of love. The service is normal, food comes within 10-15 mins, nice and warm. Been here a few times and the food standards have always been this great.
Very nice all the flavours of india incorporated. Had a good inch her though I do think they are quite pricy. Location is good but there’s a parking problem as well. Also the setting inside is quite congested. I think they should consider getting smaller tables. Anyways I did enjoy the food.
Me and my husband went for the 1st time there. And we were thoroughly pleased. Taste is awesome. But quantity should be more I think. We bought Maharaja platter. That was very nice according to taste and very authentic. Do must try PaniPuri. Highly recommended. Dahi puri was also nice. But dispointed with Ragada pattice. Overall very nice experience best treat for chaat cravings.
The kachori chat was wonderful. However the domain fusion with pav bhaji had too much chilli. Their pan is absolutely awesome. Rasmalai was excellent however gulab jamun was too sugary. This place has potential but need to upgrade their outlook.
Visited a couple of times & they are among a few good places where flavours are aunthentic and almost as good as you'd get back in mumbai. Thats why I don't mind waiting.
Unlike what you would do in Mumbai, expect to wait for 20-30mins for your order as they are always busy and always short staffed. (Cant blame the only 2 lady chefs who make so many different dishes but the mgmt can definitely step up their game and hire more staff)
Warm and friendly service from the Gentleman on the Till.
Grab a Hot n fresh samosa if you don't want to wait. 😉 they are surprisingly different.
Love this place! I've always had good food and friendly service. Definitely recommend the dosa and pani puri. This is also a great place to go with friends without breaking the bank!
I have been here on four separate occasions in the last two weeks. Clearly I like my chaat. I was a bit anxious seeing the poor reviews but went along to a group thing when invited as they seem to like it. Interestingly I've had nothing but good service and great food. The restaurant is always packed, even on weird days like Sunday evenings so clearly people are coming back for a reason.
I've had dosas across Auckland but these seem to be the best as the dosa is crispy and the Masala potato is like what my mum makes. I also enjoy the bhel and would have it over their sev puri any day. Masala chai was expensive given how little you get and that Masala chai isn't actually that hard to make. Rasmali was standard - what you'd get anywhere else.
I am bit shocked after looking it's vary bad rating and review. The reason may be with it's management, they should look into.
I had quick bites there myself. I was looking for a place for lunch then this place came to my mind. This isn't a meal place but if you are up to try nice snacks then it's good place. Love the spices and flavours of this pleace as compare to other places .
My all time favourite option to eat Samosa, Samosa chaat, papdi chaat.
Sometimes fresh jalebi is just a sweet and lovely option in winters, specially when its raining ☔.
Chutney is so close to mim made chutney from my childhood. Just yum.
Have had some bad service related experience in the past. But wanted to try them again as they generally serve good food. Wasnt dissapointed at all. They are quite good at the regional Indian vegetarian dishes and the dal baati churma I had this time was great. The service was quite warm as well. I therefore change my rating from 1 to 3.5.

Often i visit there. .. last night tried dahi puri and pani puri. Liked dahi puri most. For small snacks outing its a good option in sandringham. Quick bites... reasonable price....
Best authentic indian food in Auckland .
Their bombay masala dosa, kachori ,sahi puri, gulab jamun .. too good , no words for that . And for all others who are saying it takes time to get food , please apply little commonsense that fresh food always takes time to cook , so if you want fresh and authentic food, then waiting few minutes extra is smarter then having old food which gets ready in 5 minute from other restaurants.
Serving staff had smiling and welcoming faces , and the guy on reception was helpful in explaining which dish is what while taking our order... You guys are my favorite from now onwards and I am going to eat every single item from your menu ...
Good to see authentic Mumbai Chaat cuisine in New Zealand. Taste and texture isn't compromised at all. Big kudos to Team Mumbai Chaat. Vada Paav, Sev Puri, Samosa and Masala Dosa are must try.
Good place for chat and Gujarati food. Loved their bhel puri and samosa chat. Chat lovers should definitely visit this place :)
Location: Went to the Mumbai chat in Sandringham
I often go to Mumbai Chaat, one of my favourite Indian places to eat at. The food has always been fresh when I go, and the man behind the counter (whom I think is the owner) has always been quite friendly. They do what I think is the best masala dosa in Auckland... Just yum! Cheap and cheerful, not much to complaint about. Don't really get all the negative comments, maybe I've just been lucky :) would eat here every week if I could!

The first place in Auckland where Indian street food tastes authentic. Having lived in Mumbai, I have always longed for the perfect vada pao. I found my heaven here. Love it!
Perfect mumbai food. I had bhel puri pav bhaji. Both of them were so delicious . I would surely come here again. I would surely give a 5.0 rating
Delicious food and very friendly staff.i ordered Pani Puri, samosa chat and chole bhature.Samosa chat was 5/5 as I heard.Bhature were very oily and chole very hot i mean boiling hot not spicy.i also bought sweets like milk cake and orange fudge .I will score this place 4/5 and will definitely go back to try something else.
Myself and 2 friends ate here a few nights ago. We heard the service was bad but the food is great so we thought we would give it a try. Weve been to India last year and were hanging out for awesome Chaat and the food here is awesome! The service was fine. I feel people should be a bit more realistic - its not a high class restaurant with silver service but whats important if how it tastes - and it all tasted beautiful. Will def be back!
Delicious sev puri and pakora, so cheap too! Great for a light meal or snack. The owner is nice and patient and took the time to explain the dishes. My friend raves about this place and brought me here -the ratings for this place should be higher, I think.
Opened up after hours very good service delicious samosas all round great experience would highly recommend for a cheap eat handy location not too busy
As the name says "chat" one of the thing that every mimbaikar or every Indian goes crazy about. Mumbai chat kept to the expectation in terms of their good food and good service to their customers. A simple decor restaurant and sort of open kitchen kind of thing. I tried pani puri , dahi puri and the pizza . Yes I can I dint expect the pizza to be that good but it was really bang on for money and the cure for dahi puri was so fresh that it was just and on to the flavour. I also tried maharaja thali that gives us options to select ..was so ful after eating that . The only thing that I found wrong was that the owner's son was standing on the counter and kept hogging that was but unprofessional ..except that everything was bang on
Much recommended

Decent chaat for this part of the world. We ordered pav bhajji, sev puri and dahi puri. The dahi puri was awesome. The pav bhajji was a pretty big helping of bhajji so had to order some extra pavs. I found the chai, at $4.50, overpriced.
Meal for 3 with above mentioned dish came to approx $45
This restaurant was definitely better than my expectations. The aesthetics and cleanliness of the restaurant were below average, however their food made up for it. My alloo paratha was delicious and my partners vada pau was also packed with flavour. Well worth the price and I'll be back for lunch soon.
Delicious Bhel & Dahi Puri and irresistible Royal & Kesar Faloodas! A little small and crowded but food is definitely worth it! Great place to take your family out for a quick bite!
This place takes me back home. Authentic veg food the way u get it in india. l had dal batti platter yesterday.... all the components were tasty and ample of it for the price. Dal tasty n nice kick to it.... came along w ghee n other accompaniments.
The food at Mumbai Chaat takes me back to India. The ambience could be improved. But definitely a must go for all authentic Indian food lovers.
One of the best indian eateries in Auckland for authentic bombay style food. I have seen people talking about the service but honestly I always have received a very good homely service. Guys, please do not have preconceive notion when you go there.
@mumbai chaat team - Thank you for serving delicious food to all of us. Your efforts are highly appreciated.
A real gem in the Sandringham suburb for vegetarian food lovers. The vada pav are excellent and tangy reminiscent of Mumbai. As the name of the restaurant goes it has all the street food of Mumbai including misal paav, dosa, bhel, dev khamni, pattice, you name it and they have it. Packed on weekdays too. Service is fast and efficient. A real trest. Would get 5stars if the customer interaction gets more friendly, but on taste and quality it deserves 5stars.
Tried to get some Aloo Parathas at Shubh takeaway - Fail then tried Pav Bhaji at Jai Jalaram - double fail!!
Finally entered Mumbai Chaat as last resort. It was empty and I was sceptical even though I've been here before.
We had Misal pav which was ample but a bit watery and why on earth did it have a lob of butter on it? Even the burger buns had butter on them like pav bhaji BUT it had a nice kick to it and after u added the accompaniments it was fine. We only tried chole bhature which were flawless. Nice risen bhature with a flavourful non spicy chole sabji. Even their samosas are different and worth a try!
This is my pick pf all the eateries around the area. Its defo under-rated and has never disappointed. Give it a try if u haven't yet!!
Food is authentic and always good - I refer to the gujarati and the mumbai chaat dishes. Don't know about the more punjabi fare. The owners need to desperately learn and practice customer service. I agree with all others on the rudeness aspect. Biggest let down to otherwise excellent food and possibly the best ambience for indian fast food.
Casual eatery based on Mumbai Light lunches menu, clean, tidy and suitable for fastidious Gujarati style.
enjoyable and nice ambience with reasonably quick services. priced reasonably. No senior discount allowed but if they did they could further enhance the reputation amongst us pensioners,

Great chaats. The food was fresh and authentic. And took away 1 star cause of the "not-so-friendly" owner.
We chose the Maharaja Chaat Platter thinking it was good value for money but it turned out that since you pay less, you also get less - unlike other places where with combos you pay less cause you are ordering more.
Sev puri is awesome.
Delicious food at really great prices. The restaurant is clean and the service was good. Their dahi puri is amazing. Ordering a thali is a great way to try lots of different dishes. Definitely a favourite in Sandringham.
This is the best Indian restaurant in Sandringham, if not Auckland. The family uses their recipes that have been cooked by their mother for years and she has perfected them! They serve a range of meals and snacks cooked with just enough spice and their meals are not too oily or salty. They also use canola oil when lots of other restaurants in the area don't. Try their maharajah thai or chaat platters if you want to try everything. The place is very clean, (I went there regularly when I was pregnant), The service is very friendly and fast, I have never had a bad experience here, I don't know what people are talking about, maybe they were the ones who were rude. If you don't know what things are on the menu they have a booklet with descriptions of each dish.
I've eaten here about a dozen times and have never been disappointed by the food or the service. The guy who serves behind the counter is a little shy/quiet, but not rude. He is helpful with the menu and isn't intrusive while you eat there. I often get the food to take-away and it's very good value. Also what I find appealing is it's hygiene rating of 'A'... it's clean, light and fresh.
Their curries are just at the right level of spiciness and not too heavy and really tasty!
Highly recommended for a vegetarian place.
Mumbai Chaat was the discovery of summer for us. Tucked away in one of the side streets of Sandrigham this joint has epic food and the taste of streets of Bombay all rolled under one roof. Indian food is not just curry - that's north Indian food. This place covers west and southern Indian taste buds.
Great service, the taste of home cooked food.
All the vegetarians out there brace yourselves! This place is highly addicted.
Must try:
The regular thali - love the soft roties
Puri and Mango ras
The Dosas are crispy and delicious
Gajar ka halwa and Gulab jamun - Priceless
This is not a fast food joint! These guys will serve you delicious gourmet food, so if you looking for 2 minute service go to macdonalds up the road, but if you really want some authentic and yummy food there is no place to rather be but Mumbai Chaat!
Loved the food and the service of Mumbai Chaat. Made me nostalgic as the food is a true taste of Mumbai food. I'd say this place surely gives you a feel of Mumbai City..absolutely loved it. However, the ambience could've been a little more better. Never mind cause the food tops it all. Strongly recommended cause it is very different and much better than the usual chaat outlets in Auckland.
I can't believe the negative reviews. Just ate at Mumbai Chaat in Sandringham and the food was delicious and service fantastic. The owner or person in charge was so kind and patient explaining the different dishes to my husband and I, and other staff were full of smiles. We have been eating vegetarian Indian for years, and this is some of the best, freshest most flavoursome food we've had. The samosas are to dye for. Had South Indian combo today, and was fantastic. The Dosa was divine.
We will be bypassing the other places in Sandringham now and heading straight for there. Can't recommend the food enough. Oh and the prices are great too.
Some of the best food I've ever had! =)
I really recommend the pizza.. I will be back again.
The food was so tasty, I didn't want the taste to leave my mouth! =)
I'm happy to give Mumbai Chaat 5 stars =)
I recently had their vadapav, and I must say, it was absolutely delicious! The flavor and spice level were just perfect, and the vada was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's clear that they put a lot of care and attention into their food preparation and give authentic taste of Mumbai. If you're a vadapav lover like me, you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend trying it out!
We went on a Sunday night and many people were there. I guess it is really popular in Sandringham. We tried the original vada pav and it was delicious. We also had the bhel puri and sev puri. They were both sweet for me. I wanted a spicy one though. Prices are reasonable. Great Indian snacks they offer. By the way, no sitting area. Just standing up like street food style.
Awesome Cheese vada pav, cheese bread Pakora and Chilli cheese toast sandwich... Impressed by their perfect authentic taste...must visit
We had lovely 😍 time at Mumbai vada pav. Highly recommended for hot and yuummmy street food. VAIBHAV is very hard working man, handling all the work without any pressure. Kai pai!!
Great vibe. Delicious snacks. Not once I had any issues with their snacks listed on their menu. Lovely couple.
Amazing food at really affordable prices! Can’t ask for more! Made me nostalgic cause the food made me remember all the food I used to have as a child back in Mumbai!
Vada pav is delicious hence we came back to the place again but found it closed. However on google it showed open. Next time if you decide to close your shop please update your google. Thanks 😊
Excellent, delicious food and such friendly staff! Took me straight to Mumbai’s street food memories, authentic stuff!🤌🏼
Highly recommend this place to all those missing Aamchi Mumbai or wanna take a quick trip to the place through its cuisine!👌🏼👌🏼
Love this little street food stall. It takes me back home every single time. Authentic to the tee. Good job guys on staying true to Mumbai ;)
The wada pav and their cheese grill sandwich that I have eaten is amazing. Similar to that I have eaten in Mumbai. Good job guys
I was surprised to find this Vadapav centre which has tastier stuff than most of the other vadapav vendors in in the area.
It’s a small, quick bite centre who serve traditional Vada pav, bread Pakora, Mumbai style sandwiches etc.. The price is very nominal too.
I must say that the chef knows the secret to a good chutney which happens to be a vital component in Indian street food.
Visit here if you are hardcore Vadapav fan for Perfect Mumbai style street food by a true Mumbaikar. Well done Team!
This Place will remind you of Mumbai
Vada Pav is Great , Masala Cheese Grilled sandwich is a must try
