Delicious food, warm and friendly service, and reasonable prices! Highly recommend this restaurant! We ordered the Spicy squid ($15), the Jelly tofu soup ($16), and the Ginseng Chicken soup ($22). Every dish included a small bowel of rice. The side dishes included: seaweed, yellow radish, fish cakes, kimchi, and bean sprouts. The lovely owners are happy to offer free refills plus there’s free hot tea.
i have been waiting way way way too long to try this place and it is GOOD ! my fave korean resto is the one across from them, Pinehouse Korean & Japanese Restaurant, and this is going to be my new fave Korean resto from now i think. flavour is definitely on-point and better than Pinehouse. though Pinehouse has got bigger portion and better and more delicious side dishes. i am craving them now as i'm writing this review
I use to eat here years ago, and the food is exactly how i remember it. I had the spicy beef soup and it was delicious, however I could only find three slivers of beef. Also the dumplings aren’t worth the money, and have no flavour to them so give that a pass. All and all, this is a affordable, local place that’s great for a stop in.

The best korean bbq ever.
Best gamjatang i have ever tried.
My very first Korean place that I've been to since I moved Auckland in 2016. It's a family-owned business run by an old and friendly Korean couple. I always feel like home whenever I come here for food. The food is very nice too. So in love with their ox bone soup and pork bone & potato hotpot - just perfect for a cold winter day. They also have quite a big variety of side dishes and I enjoy them all, always ask to get topped up 2nd time because they are just too good :) highly recommended place to go if you wanna have a home-cooked Korean meal.
This is our go to korean restaurant. We like all of their side dishes especially the seaweed and the fish cakes. The spicy marinated pork is my personal favourite (not spicy for me but I like the sweet taste).
We ordered the spicy lamb stew for the first time today and it was definitely worth the $18. I would order the lamb stew again next time. It comes with a sauce to dip the meat in and tasted marvelous!
My favourite go to korean restaurant! Best bibimbap ever! It is out of this world. The flavours are delicious and better than any other bibimbaps.. I’d give 10/10 if I can. I definitely recommend the bibimbap! :)
Really great spicy bbq pork!! The sides were great and fresh, really nice accompaniments. Only critique is we asked for spicy and it wasn’t :( Otherwise great value for money, will come back to try the Spicy Seafood noodle!
Personally one of the best Korean eateries on the North Shore. I love their bbq squid which is always cooked so perfectly, and their side dishes include some of my favourite foods. One thing they could improve on is the level of spice of their dishes, tried the mild which was not very flavourful while the spicy has more of a sweet taste which I enjoyed - but could be a bit more spicy 😊 The owners are also really friendly love people and the restaurant has a nice vibe ✨
Wow, i would normally go to rosedale or high street for Korean food. This place has good vibes and the owners are ever so lovely. The lamb yeongyang tang goes haaard! Defs hit this place up!! Will be returning with my friends :)
wow, that was an amazing and very flavourful meal, i had the marinated squid which was cooked perfectly. i would definitely come back at this korean restaurant to taste other foods on their menu.
Authentic food and authentic people, so friendly and good with our children, brought them their own little plates to eat off! And served them first. Was delightful have been a couple of times and will be going back :)
Love this pl - one of the best Korean places on the north shore - the owners are nice, simple set up,good prices, food is delicious. Had marinated chicken with rice.
I popped in for a bite and had spicy kimchi soup, this was delicious and service was very good. Looking round at other tables, there are lots of nice looking dishes to go back for!
Quite a simple environment but lovely service and food with Decent serving sizes. Me and my partner were happy with our meals. Will be back. :)
Honestly can say that this is one of the best Korean eateries I have been to in Auckland city, I love my Korean food and yummy definitely delivers the goods, the owners are super friendly , it's very clean inside and the food has a lot of love put into it, have tried many of there dishes and all are top notch, highly recommend, if it's amazing Korean at a good price your after I would make the trip to yummy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The couple that own this shop are extremely kind and hospitable. When you get your food, you get explained how to eat it, and he always comes to check whether you're enjoying your food, I genuinely think that's a really good sign. The food is authentic and tastes extremely fresh!
Such a cool ambience small the owner makes you feel super welcomed and the spicy beef soup is AMAZING! LOVE how they give all the accompany dishes as well like the sweet fish cake amazing. This is my go to Korean takeaways/eat in. Highly recommend to all!!
Went to Yummy on recommendation of friends. We had the Marinated Beef with Rice, and Spicy Mixed Seafood with Noodles- both were well cooked, well spiced and good portions. The portions were pretty decent. The chef/owner was very friendly and helpful. I would go back again.
Best Korean restaurant in Auckland imo :) but the name of the restaurant could mislead customers to think in is a Korean BBQ restaurant where you can cook your own meat but it only serves the most amazing Korean dishes so I can look over that detail. Some dishes (like the marinated dishes) may be sweet to some people so if you want somethibg savoury I recommend the soup dishes or noodles (e.g. spicy seafood noodles). The falvour of all their soup dishes are hearty and rich. I recommend the soy bean paste stew, kimchi stew, beef stew and spicy lamb stew!
A friendly little spot on the main street with easy parking outside. Excellent soups and stews, especially their lamb with sesame. They do all the basics well and the prices aren't bad either.
One of my favourite Korean Restaurants! Delicious food and lovely owners ☺️ The spicy BBQ pork is my #1 go-to. Also the best restaurant Kimchi I've had! + They always know what my family likes and never fails to impress with every order!
I have lived in the area my whole life and have walked past this place a million times without giving it a second look. So glad we decided to give it a go! Such good hearty food at really great prices. Don't let the appearance of the restaurant put you off. Yum! This will become a new regular for us! I had the hot beef soup with rice and it was amazing. Looking forward to trying the kimchi stew
Reasonable price. Yummy food. We ordered beef stew and chili sizzling squid. Owners are friendly. We love love love the food including the side dishes. One of our go to restaurants.
So delicious, coming back soon.. Love the kimchi and everything was so fresh. Great friendly service and a nice atmosphere. It was open on a public holiday and mid afternoon.. Still busy.

My family loves this Korean restaurant. When we first walked pass this restaurant, we doubted the food quality and tastes due to the size of the eatery. However, we didn't regret dining in there because the food was really really delicious. Typical Korean soups, cold noodles and side dishes are one of the best we've tasted before. Owners arr very friendly too. They always take time to explain us how to enjoy the food in the Korean way. Highly recommended.
Love this Korean restaurant. Never fails to deliver amazing food, and I've tasted a lot of the dishes! My favourite though is definitely the spicy sizzling pork platter, sooooo good :)
My no.1 favourite Korean restaurant! I'm a big fan of Korean food, have tried a lot places, and I have to say this one is really fantastic ! The steamed beef rib is my fav, so tender and flavourful. The pork ham hot pot is a great choice for two people to share. Their own homemade Kimchi is also so yum! The owners are really nice and friendly as well. Prices are reasonable, definitely a great choice if you want some Korean food in Birkenhead.
Such a gem in Birkenhead! Heard lots of good comments about this restaurant and finally got to try it. We ordered this steamboat for 2 ppl, beef spicy soup, and bbq pork. Amazingly, all of them were really good and well-seasoned! Especially the beef spicy soup that served with rice, the best one so far. Couldn't even finish it and unfortunately I forgot to take a pic of it. The side dishes were really nice, that fish cake tho! 😋 yumm! However, we had to wait around 30 mins for the food to come. Oh well, it was worth it ☺️
Really love this place. The only Korean restaurant I trust. Food are so tasty and flavourful and they serve unlimited side dishes (which is a fave of mine - love all the side dishes: sweet potato, kimchi, fish cake, bean sprout, seaweed and this jelly thing). They are also very affordable and I like how they have hot tea! I have only tried their meals on the sizzling plates e.g. bulgogi and their hot soups but they always tasted delicious every visit. Only thing I can fault is their place but I don't really mind it that much.
The food was good also cheap and the staff was sooo friendly and polite. They gave a really good service👍🏻The food somehow not authentic Korean kind of mixed with Japanese food. Anyway will definitely come back for my spicy beef soup😛
Consistently great service from the owners who produce authentic Korean food with no frills and at a reasonable price. They're not shy to let you know how to make the most of your meal and to pile on extra kimchi and gochujang (hot sauce) if asked. It's easy to order meatless bibimbap (rice hash) for the vegetarians, and there's plenty of good meaty dishes (the gamjatang or pork bone soup is a goodie) for the rest. We like to dine in early (it gets quite cramped later in the evenings) or get takeout if its busy. Great place.
Whatever you can have it in Korea, you can have it here in Yummy Korean BBQ Restaurant. The owner, Mr. Kim is a very friendly owner.
The Sam Gae Thang (ginseng chicken soup) and ra-myon (spicy noodle with egg), are my favourite. Ask for non spicy if you don't take spicy food.
Please try the seaweed that served together with your main dish other than some other side dishes like kimchi, fish cake slices and bean sprout.
Mr. Kim secret recipe that he share to me, have the ra-myon with kimchi, it is so delicious!
This is a simple place, but with fantastically delicious food and very reasonable prices. The food is delicious and prompt, and the staff are such lovely people!
I liked the food that we ordered when we first came here. Price was reasonable and they were friendly as well. I would recommend this to place for people who's craving for Korean food but want it in an affordable price. It's also just a very simple restaursnt so don't expect it to be anything fancy.
This place is utterly charming. I've become obsessed with Korean food since i moved to Auckland central and I've eaten at more than a dozen places, both cheap and expensive, but this place takes the cake by a mile.
I ordered a spicy lamb soup which sounded a little more like Chinese food to me but I was advised by the very friendly man that I had made an excellent choice and he was not wrong. The lamb itself was utterly succulent and the accompanying sesame chilli sauce was delectable. It was rounded off with a deeply flavoured, sensuously rich spicy stock and spinach. The side-dishes were also well above par.
It was so good that I had to order myself some more food - being the greedy little bugger that I am. I went for BBQ beef which I believe was marinated in something like Bulgogi. The blade (I think) steak was cut beautifully and sprinkled generously with sesame seed. The dark, rice sauce was sumptuous and addicting. I really couldn't have been more satisfied. If I had one minor gripe - it's that I would have really loved a cheap Korean beer or even a nice soju to wash it all down. But that might have detracted from its home-spun charm.
The couple who run the place are utterly lovely. Easily the most friendly and welcoming Korean restaurant staff I have encountered yet. The only problem is that it's in Birkenhead. If they moved to the city I'd be there every second day. A wonderful, hidden gem.
best spicy bulgogi ive ever had :D only downside is thats its always the same side dishes~ other korean places ive been have differnt ones or give you more than 3~ but ohwell the food is super nice!
This is my favourite Korean restaurant in Auckland, having eaten at probably 10+ different local Korean restaurants. The mains are perfectly done every time, the mom-and-pop hosts are friendly, and the combination of side dishes are just right.
The only downside is that they don't open on Sundays (I never seem to head over the bridge on Saturdays), but I guess everybody needs a day off.
I love this place - it's everything that's good about a hole in the wall restaurant -- good prices, authentic food, very personal service. We've tried other Korean in the area but this is the best place by far.
This place is one of our favourites - we're there every other week and the standard is always excellent. For relaxed, delicious dining at an amazing price, look no further. The friendly hosts will make you feel welcome, and the food will make you beam with satisfaction.
Oh yeahhhh! For the price, this place is awesome! The friendliest, sweetest staff AND ten bucks for a sizzling platter of the most yummy marinated pork! It comes with fluffy rice and four different pickles. I've been twice in the space of a week, and I'm sure I must be due a third visit! :)
Absolutely love this restaurant. Owned by a husband wife combo who really take care of their guests. We love the marinated pork with rice and the pork bone soup.
I had spicy lamb bone stew and stir-fried squid at this restaurant. The lamb stew was the best I've had in Auckland, and the stir-fried squid was delicious, although a little bit sweet for my taste. The restaurant was small and there were a lot of people at lunch time, so it was a bit noisy, but the owner and wife were really friendly, so it's a restaurant I want to go back to.
Loved the food ! It felt like you are having home made Korean food. Also very nice host. Although They could work on the bathroom and cleaning a bit I supposed. Not everyone would enjoy the old buildings and room.

One of the better cheap eats on the north shore and our local, really good wholesome flavours lovely spice nice service. The owners work at it so everything is authentic. So with all three and you get a nice selection of bowls of condiments.
The food was really nice but taste they put too much sugar in the food.. customer service was amazing 👏 .
The lamb soup 🍲 was yumm.
This is your quintessential home restaurant. Korean family run and food consistently authentic and delicious. You go here to feel and taste Korea. It may have rickety chairs, no alcohol with little English spoken. But the food makes it all worthwhile. The BEST bibimbap in the city and a unique spicy lamb stew to die for. Flavors sublime! If you are a foody and love some spice, this is the place for you.
For the beautiful couple owners.
We're very grateful that the shop was open for 20 years now. Since we moved to Auckland. We love your restaurant. You and your lovely wife are Amazing! The food are very tasty and yummy. I can tell it's make from Love. I appreciate all the hard work that you do to make the store still open for all those years! Even though we moved out of Auckland we still come back to visit and support you! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
My goodness!
What an absolute experience this was. Yummy Korean Birkenhead.
21 years these guys have been serving up the goods and they have mastered it let me tell you.
Sizzling beef and some sticky rice and some cute side dishes to accompany it as per your standard Korean restaurant. But everything was premium quality and no corners were taken on the flavour. Honestly I’ve had this dish many a time in some late night diners up on the top of queen st but this one puts them to shame.
Washed it all down with a traditional Korean corn tea 🌽 which threw me a curve ball but it helped with the digestion and tied the whole experience together.
A client and a few people I know have been raving about this place and I can tell you it’s that good! And for the price of 17$ it’s almost cheaper than a Big Mac combo!
Good food. Not a very shiny place, but good and quick service. and clean.

Place has great food and I try to stop in any time I have time and it is open. Items to try Blood sausage soup is awesome and my partner almost always orders it. For those less adventurous types there is pork and chicken cutlet with rice which are both super tasty.
Small piece of Seoul, that's how I felt inside, nothing flash but authentic, very attentive guy greeted and served me, I was a bit under weather so he recommended hot beef soup which was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo at the beginning , only realised half way through my meal lol. Definitely keen to try out other dishes.
This is our favourite Korean BBQ restaurant on the Shore. Always delicious flavours and friendly service.
What a wonderful meal and so plentiful. Had bbq pork with a bit of spice and dolsat bimbimbap (rice hash). Both meals were fantastic. The side dishes had a great variety and each person got their own. Sometimes some places only give one to the table.
Refills are free. Owners friendly and accommodating.
Highly recommended.
Phenomenal food and such great service, thank you for all of the extra kimchi!!❤️🔥
Food is delicious and generous. Loveliest couple as well!
Can I give 10 stars? Been eating here for 10 plus years. The food is very tasty, the atmosphere a simple but very homey, the couple that run it are genuinely sweet and kind people. The place is more tangible than spectacular. Absolutely, reliably good.
Lovely little restaurant with a homely vibe
Enjoyed the yummy teokboki & pork cutlet my friend orderd the lamb soup i felt like i could taste her dish just frm the smell 🤤
Beautiful couple like an aunty and uncle who own the restaurant I recommend this place if u want to eat food cooked with love 🥰
