Went to Humbug Cafe in Glen Eden today, they have a vegetarian big breakfast that the eggs can be swapped out for home made baked beans if Vegan like me. I wasn't hungry enough for big breaky so had 3 sides instead.
Crispy potatoes,roasted field mushrooms and THE BEST home made baked beans I've ever eaten.
Highly recommend � so filling!
Beans side was a good portion and only about $4. Told waitress they were best I've ever had too hehehe!

Couldn't really decipher the music from noise though. Was just loud base & music noise. Maybe an upgrade on the sound system or more defined music that works with sound system limitations to add to the atmosphere, not reduce the experience. Will go back today for more pumpkin cake.
This place is a mix of your 1980's Retro decor and the up-to-date food (good quantities�) Definitely enjoyed my experience, I trailed through all these reviews before coming here, so I had a pre-conceived expectation (sorry bout it lol) came here and tried it this morning and blew my expectations out the ball park. The friendly service, the rustic decor & the hearty food bears a nostalgic sensation that demands your attention, Humbug’s solid reputation is a result of consistency & diligence in their craft. The value for money is fair, the food is delicious & the staff are always on their toes...just be wary when it peaks in the summertime because it’s like dining in a sauna. Always a family fave. Excellent service and efficient staff. Food is tasty and delicious. Lots of tables for all sized groups and has a fun vibrant vibe with many people coming and going constantly. The kids space keeps the little ones occupied so parents can enjoy their coffee. Have tried many things from this menu and it never disappoints.
Humbug was a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood when it popped up (5??) years ago... this was the only cafe for miles! And it still doesn’t disappoint (only over the Xmas break when it’s shut) their coffee is delicious and their cabinet treats are nom nom nom.
I haven’t eaten breakfast here in a little while, but the last 2 times I’ve had mince on toast and I can very highly recommend that!

What a great place, set back with a 70's deco, Truely amazing food with healthy choices and bang on coffee (Millers Coffee - Personal all time favorite). My little 3 year old loves the kids play area, surely keeps her occupied. We live just a few block from here so its a regular breakfast place us. Highly recommend. Menu price is a little high compared to other cafes, but definitely worth it.

One of the best spots in West Auckland. Not the best if you're a health nut, although there definitely are options. They have a great cabinet selection as well. They also have a little play area for the young ones. Parking is a bit tough as this place gets quite busy on weekends (and I wouldn't even bother if its a holiday, e.g. Father's Day, unless you've booked). Service is always friendly, and the decor is cute too (it's a bit 70s, but I like that kind of thing).
Absolutely love this place!! The retro atmosphere and space is nice. The food is something else I’ve never tasted before. All the flavours were so delicious. Definitely recommend and it’s kid friendly with a play area lounge. WINNING !!!

The menu is just the right kind for a heavy breakfast or a late brunch.
They serve one of the best hollandaise sauce in Auckland. Also in pics is the Mediterranean scramble. Spiced chickpeas on scrambled eggs with salsa and bread. To be honest the chickpeas could have been a lil bit more tender and that would have taken the dish to another level. Nonetheless, it still was great. Good coffees. No complaints.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! Vege breakfast was huge and cooked perfectly. My partner had the big breakfast and quoted "best breakfast I've ever had." The produce and ingredients used are amazing. The bread especially! Special mention to the gentleman behind the counter - so friendly and welcoming. We will be back!

Coffee and food here is always great! Staff are very friendly, open kitchen directly behind the counter so you can see all the food being conjured up skilfully. Kid friendly in a side room but never ridiculously riddled with loud children - incase you don't like small humans (don't get me wrong I love kids!!)

Think London's Shoreditch meets Glen Eden - shouldn't work but kinda does! Warm, shabby chic, busy with an eclectic group of patrons (come early to avoid sharing a table with strangers - or come late to avoid sharing a table with friends). Great Coffee, excellent brekkie with decent hang-over sized portions. child / family friendly (can a place be too family friendly?). Retro / rest-home furniture makes the place feel oddly cosmopolitan... just needs a lava lamp. Unique and well worth a visit...
Came here for Saturday brunch.
We got the Humbug Special which was pancakes; and Humbug Grill. Also got the Carrot Boost smoothie and Iced Coffee. The pancakes were delightful! A generous plate of warm fluffy house made pancakes in a pool of syrup and strawberry sauce-- mmm. The rhubarb was soft and flavoursome, which the sourness complimented the sweetness of the strawberry sauce perfectly. The yoghurt on the side definitely helped tone down the sweetness of the dish; however it's not a sickly sweet, you leave feeling satisfied without feeling heavy.
Didn't get to try the Grill but it was a massive plate of 2 sunny side up eggs, sausages, bacon, bread, potato wedges and beef schnitzel.
Also their service is out of this world; I believe it was the owner (bearded man) who seated us, very friendly and the girl who took our order was also very nice and attentive.
I'm coming back again to try their wide array of cabinet slices!

The food at humbug was great, the smoothies are also great! Coffee was good and the displayed desserts looked amazing. Was priced really well. The overall vibe of the café was relaxed. I love how there's a separate kids area! Would of been a 5 if the service wasn't half pie,the lady who served me wasn't very friendly.

Service first and foremost is amazing. Staff are all friendly as anything, happy and smiley which is always nice to see and so rare. There is always someone walking round and available for anything. Food and drinks was bought super quickly, even with being busy. Excellent amazing service.
Couches and kids area was amazing too, plenty of space and toys for kids to play and we'll, the couch was amazing to sit in and relax! Inside decor is also fun and interesting to look at, very cool vibe there.
Ordered coffees, the chips with aoli and a friend ordered the eggs on toast with bacon as a side. Coffee was super small but may be I ordered a small? I don't remember mentioning a size - regardless I could have definitely had more of that coffee. Yum. The chips with aoli....if I could marry a food, that'd be it, soooooo good!

Go here reasonably often. Always busy and always nice environment. My partner gets the big brekkie and loves it, I've had a few different options but have never been disappointed. Service is great and the cabinet food looks to die for. Also love the open kitchen, really cements the idea that it's a place that cares about its customers and reputation.

Came here for breakfast on Sunday and again today (ANZAC). Both times the meal was good. Portion great, westie vibe, warm environment.
THE FOOD
The Grill (4/5) - Love this dish, portion is really good, sausage is a little on the sweet side. Bacon cooked perfectly this and last time. Same with egg as well.
Pumpkin Spice Cake (4/5) - Had this with the yoghurt. This cake was dense and yum. I'm not the biggest fan of rich cakes so this done well.
Moroccan Scramble (4/5) - Egg was cooked perfectly. This dish
Soy Mocha (3.5/5) - On Sunday it was amazing, the second time it was ok.
Sausage, Spinach, caramilsed onion (2.5/5) - Had this sandwich toasted. Not the best one Ive had, felt like it lacked a certain flavour.
Fries (4.5/5) - love their fries, really good crunch to it!! And fresh!!! With a little work to the seasoning and sauce and this could easily be a 5.

This is one of our semi regular breakfast destinations. The food is always of a nice high standard and so is the service.
I would recommend the humbug grill. The whole dish is just a well rounded breakfast. Albeit I do have a couple of mods for myself.

This place pumps with a vibrant and fun feeling reflected in the staff and patrons. Everyone seems to be happy. They are tucked away from any main streets and hustle and bustle of the traditional face paced auckland cafe scene. But every time I come here the place is almost if not totally full. So you may need to be prepared for a wait.
We normally bring the dog so sometime waiting for a outside table can take a while. But it's totally worth it.
So to sum it up
Humbug even tho it's tucked away has a serious following and is busy. But that's a good think as you will find when you come here too the food and coffee is exceptional just like the service.
Went here on my sister's recommendation. Immediately noticed the wonderful cabinet food on offer as I walked in, & that was before I even encountered the menu. I ordered the French toast with berry coulis, creme fraiche & maple syrup. Delicious!! My sister ordered the bacon & eggs & she was very happy with those. The coffee was perfect. I will definitely be back.
Had an afternoon coffee with friends on a weekend and surprisingly it was a bit crowded.. We still managed to get a seat easy and enjoyed the vibe of the place. We experienced prompt service and good coffee. Staff were really friendly.
Spending a sunny and breezy day out, Humbug is the place to go if your feeling lazy as this cafe is quite a hidden gem on the corner of a street. The atmosphere is quite buzzy as the staff are quite friendly, as the interior of the cafe is home-like with a splash of modern. The food I ordered was the Vege Breaskfast with a Mixed Berry smoothie, it was well proportioned for the price. I highly recommend this cafe if your looking for a quickly bite and even a lazy afternoons treat.

This is a hidden gem in a lazy street corner. Went here with a group of friends for breakfast so got to sample quite a bit. The ambience was buzzing and they have a nice kid friendly corner. When it comes to food, I had nothing to complain. We ordered eggs in its various avataar. My poached eggs were perfect. The eggs benedict was class as well. My complaint is with the salmon. Two of my friends ordered their eggs with smoked salmon. What we got was eggs with over cooked salmon. Having said that, I have to give a shout out to their barista for a really mean coffee.

Humbug is my favourite cafe in Auckland so far.
It can get very crowded, but with such an awesome menu and setup, it is no wonder it is so popular. I have been here tons of times, whether by myself, with friends, with family, or with colleagues. It is a great place to grab a window table and just relax, soak atmosphere and indulge in some tasty food and drink.
Not once have I ever had anything to complain about here. I have had muffins, fettucine, french toast, bacon and eggs, sodas, iced coffee, mince on toast... everything has been perfect right down to the last crumb (the french toast is a personal favourite... I have it far more often than I will admit).
All of the food is presented very well and is to a high standard, fresh and flavoursome. The coffee is good, especially the iced coffee/mocha. There are heaps of options for chilled bottled drinks, too.
The interior is very rustic with an open kitchen, food that looks perfectly homemade, and old-fashioned mismatched tables and chairs. There are plants inside and it is very open and light, especially on a sunny day. The staff are usually friendly and open, even when it is crazy busy. I never feel afraid to have a quick chat with the barista or a free waiter/waitress if I am waiting for a table or a takeaway coffee.
Definitely check this place out, you can't do better!

Heard good things about this cafe so went for brunch today. It's always crowded when I drive past so it's certainly a popular local cafe. Friendly, helpful service and speedy, despite a very busy morning. My partner had the special of bacon hock, spinach, poached eggs with hollandaise on English muffin which was very tasty. I had the potato/kumara rosti on hummus with egg - filling and delicious. Rosti was the perfect crunchiness and egg just lightly runny. Coffee was also excellent. A nice sunny space and tho busy, didn't feel crowded. Great to have a separate play area for the littlies. We enjoyed our food and thought it reasonable value. Will happily return. Nice to have a decent local cafe.

A lovely cafe. I always get the french toast with berries and creme fraiche, and an iced mocha. Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing layout and interior. I would only say that sometimes the staff on the till are a bit short and grumpy but being a worker in hospitality I totally understand that it can get frustrating when it is busy, and Humbug is busy like 24/7. This is one of our favorites out west. Usually for breakfast hubby and I go for the eggs bene or vege breakfast but both went for the humbug mince on toast this morning and it was amazing. Quick friendly service and great coffee. Hubby indulged in one of there decadent cronuts as he cant walk out of that place without one!

Unfortunately I feel as though I need to amend my last review based on a recent visit. My little sister had flown in from Perth and I was excited to take her to Humbug for breakfast. Service was exceptional as usual but the food was unusually below par.
Maybe it was just an off day in Humbug or it may have been that they were still warming up (we were seated before 8am) but my eggs bene was close to gross! The hollandaise had a strange gelatinous texture to it and the eggs were nothing to write home about. The bread/muffin was hard to identify and was under toasted and slightly soggy and dry at the same time. This was all accompanied with a sad looking mound of watery chutney on the side. The dish simply lacked love, the love and passion that usually makes Humbugs food so spectacular! If it wasn't for the waiter who has an amazingly genuine and kind manner (and not to mention our perfect coffees!!) I would probably never go there again.
Hoping this was a one off and willing to try it again considering it is/was? my local favourite. If it helps balance it out, they truly do make fries to die for!

Since relocating into the heart of West Auckland, this little gem has been one of my weekend highlights. A charming and down to earth vibe, great tunes and an upbeat staff make for a perfect Sunday destination.
The food is Fantastic with a capital F! Humbug's fries are to die for, and the coffee is brilliant. Eggs Bene complete with all the trimmings is always delectable in every way possible. The consistency in food at Humbug is what constantly impresses me. It would be great to see an option of creamy mushrooms on the menu but as far as negatives go its a teeny tiny one!
An affordable medium range price, that fairly represents the overall experience delivered. An experience in which I am happy to repeat most Sundays.
Light and airy suburban cafe with a family-friendly space. I met friends there and all of our babies enjoying sitting or crawling on the rug with the many toys. There were lots of other babies or toddlers around too, with plenty of high chairs.
I had the chicken burger and honestly could take it or leave it. It was nicely presented and generously sized, but I didn't really enjoy it. Nothing objectively wrong, just not for me. (I'd kick my rating up but for this one thing.)The accompanying fries were fantastic though! Super crispy and golden, really enjoyable.
I had an iced chocolate which was tasty and looked great, but could have been icier.
The prices were fair, and service was fast and attentive.

Hands down the best cafe in west Auckland. I am a regular customer at Humbug. My favourite meal here is the french toast with berries - absolutely delicious! - and the fettucine is also very nice. Their iced drinks (I have so far tried an iced mocha and an iced chocolate) are the best I've had anywhere. I have yet to find one that matches the quality of Humbug's. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and though it is often hard to find a free table here (it is very busy almost all of the time), the staff are very caring and welcoming, offering menus, newspapers, magazines and a little waiting area for prospective customers. If you are looking for quality, Humbug is it.
Took my nana here for a surprise birthday breakfast, was such a nice cafe, delicious food, lovely friendly staff, they were happy to let us shift tables so my nana could have a chair with a back rest as when we arrived the place was full.
Very child friendly, Would definitely return whenever I'm in the area.

Comment: An awesome place, and along with the food, give you a warm and homey feel. The foods are wonderful, love the lamb mince on toast as it includes a tomato ragu taste and yogurt mint which gave two very distinctive and very tasty flavor. A must try got customer visting the place.
Hambug is a great little place in Glen Eden- we love going there for the beer battered fries in a crate! I love love love places that aren't stingy with the fries (although my abs don't like it as much. Although what abs haha). I came here on the day after the RWC final and was pleased to find a table. I ordered a medium flat white, a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake and the fries. Totally overestimated myself and couldn't finish the food. The cheesecake was nice, and very sweet. Good portions for the fries and the French toast that my friend had.
What would make it better is if they used fresh smoked salmon instead of what tastes like tinned on the eggs benedict.

Wow. Jst wow. I discovered this cafe thru my sister and it is Dayum gud! Even their cabinet food is worth a try. I highly recommend u try their cheesecakes for those of u with a sweet tooth 😉
I love going to humbug as it is close and the food is amazing! Everything on the menu and in the cabinet is good and worth trying. I highly recommend visiting this cafe even if it's just for a coffee. The only problem with humbug is that it can get very busy and you sometimes need to wait to be seated but trust me the wait is totally worth it!!

Came here two weeks ago with a cousin. I got the prawn salad it was nice full of interesting flavours but not worth the price I paid. Also got a caramel slice that topped the meal off and it was rich but awesome. My friend got the kumara dish with humus and stuff (can't really remember) it was delicious.
I was really looking forward to visiting Humbug after raving reviews from friends. We had coffee and cake from the cabinet. The selection was huge and the cake was absolutely delicious! It was lunch time when we arrived and packed out with families. There is a kids area inside - so family friendly cafe. Easy parking nearby too. The staff were polite and happy to chat, but general timeliness could be improved. There was a long wait at the register for several people, including us, and one coffee was a bit late. We will be back with our fingers crossed that it will be faster next time!
Went here today with my boyfriend I Loved it the food was great and the staff are so friendly Love the quirky decor I had ordered the Five grain toast with Sliced tomato feta and coriander cashew pesto and it was delicious my boyfriend ordered the Vege Breakfast and really enjoyed it we also ordered the beer battered fries they came with Aioli and ketchup great value nice big portion and very reasonably priced had to take most of the chips home as the food was really fulling I also had the Ginger Chai latte and that was so good nice and spicy and just really really good I will definitely be coming back best brunch I've had in ages I'm a very happy customer :) :)

I find myself craving the Brioche French Toast now that I've had them once. They were the most delicious I've ever had the pleasure of tasting! The decor is a bit meh, but I guess some people are into that whole mismatched, dated look and it works for Humbug.
What I really loved (other than the Brioche French Toast) was the baking happening right in the middle of everything. It's so much fun to watch the dedicated staff hard at work!
Humbug is one of my favourite cafes in Auckland. It's cute and quirky, with delicious food and friendly service. The baristas consistently serve up some of the best soy coffee and they have great vegetarian options. The beer battered fries are a must-try! I also appreciate that the cafe is unofficially split into a family area and a quieter area.
Food on the menu is OK, it is cooked well however basic creations. There is a beautiful cabinet of sweet treats that are always tempting and have lots of variety. It would be nice if the menu changed every so often. The coffee is 10/10 and this is consistent since Humbug opened.
Do not come here if you are super hungry. Service is very slow, and even more so if you get a takeaway coffee, they don't appear to prioritise your coffee like other places (they are very busy).
It is a great cafe for children and families, however a nightmare for people that don't like screaming kids.
The lay out is hipster retro, and the staff are OK. It has a brilliant energy for a Westie cafe, and you bump into all the locals here.
We really like trying out little neighbourhood cafes and HB's a primo little estab. We're not from around Glen Eden, far from there, but whenever we visit, we feel like we're @ hm. The decor's funky and there's big open spaces, especially compared to places such as Sweeties or Bluebells and their cakes are always fresh and well worth digging into with a hot brew.
Love coming here for a weekend brunch, especially as it is local, the food is great and the coffee is excellent. The staff are always obliging even when the café is packed and they are rushed off their feet. I really like they have though about accommodating children as well with a range of toys and books, makes going here with kids for a coffee a breeze.
This place never ceases to satisfy. Sit at one of the inside tables by the window and bathe in the sunshine- it's almost perfection.
That is If you can get a table- this place is busy, which just goes to show how good it is.
The coffee is millers- it's hot and creamy, the food is a tasty selection of the usual breakfast fare with some lively lunch suggestions and the most amazing beer battered fries... Which are ok for breakfast.. Arn't they?

Delicious food, great vibe and great staff. It does get really busy on weekends, but from experience I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for brunch, even when it's been insanely hectic. So lovely to have a place like this in Glen Eden.
Pretty awesome environment, and the food is right up there with central Auckland ' s cafe scene. Came here for brekkie with a friend and we ended up having lunch as well coz the atmosphere was so chilled we didn't want to leave.
Have just discovered this cafe. Relaxed friendly atmosphere, great food and coffee. Easy parking and worth the drive if you live on the other side of town.
this cafe is awesome.. children friendly with a space for kids to play and really cosy .. I asked for something off the menu.. just pan fried potatoes with two eggs and baked beans and the guy behind the desk happily did this for me.. it was soooo good and really big portion.. my iced chocolate was good and I had some berry cake of my sisters that looked so bad for the hips :)
Just visited here for Brunch as a group of four, such a wee Gem! They have table service which was an instant plus so we were able to get a seat outside in the sun. The waitresses were lovely and the food and drinks came in a timely manner.
We started with coffees which were strong and perfectly to my liking, cappuccinos and mochas were topped with grated chocolate, a nice touch.
I ordered the poached eggs on toast with relish and added smoked salmon costing $14 total, a great price for a quality breakfast. They also offer a selection of toasts including GF, artisan white, bagels, grain and my personal choice Brioche. It was absolutely Devine, a simple yet perfectly executed brunch full of flavour and sophistication.

My favourite cafe! The food is always spot on.. It's a perfect place to meet up for coffee especially for mums with little ones... very child friendly and comfortable! Great service, and I would proudly recommend it to anyone!
Been here twice and the same guy who waiters people was there he's probably the nicest person I have come across in any cafe, so he definitely was lighting up the situation seeing as they were real busy and I'm real inpatient. So thanks to that guy i had a good breakfast with good food, the only thing I would say that was kind of a downer was the price in the end. But overall v good :)

This is our regular. Solid coffee, good food. I would recommend the corriander pesto and feta on toast for a light breakfast, or the beer battered fries for a snack.
Went here for breakfast on Friday morning was surprisingly busy for a weekday .. Got our orders very quick and the food was pretty good wouldn't say it was the best we've had but wasn't bad .. Although there coffee was delicious ! I'd go back just for a coffee
A pleasant surprise ! The reviews are accurate! It is efficient and food is good! Also has good cabinet selection on top of the hot meals and coffee was very good! Its a good local cafe and surely appreciated by a lot of people as it was busy !
A very busy cafe at the weekends, made more so by having a kids room. If you are looking for a place with some atmosphere, this is it. Quick service with great coffee got us off to a good start. The menu is not central Auckland prices and the meals are large, simple and tasty. Have the Black Pudding as they use the Westmere butchery product. They do have limited seating outside.
Having eaten here several times in the last few weeks the cafe is always busy but have managed to get a seat on all occasions. I've had The French toast brioche with berries and banana twice, this is very nice and I recommend. The vegetarian bagel burger was ok, could do with a bit more flavour and sauce, but the beer batter fries were good so no complaint there. The cakes and cookies on display are just devine and its very hard to make a choice. The rolls on the other hand are not so good, once again more flavour and filling would be good. Coffee was good on most occasions but I do prefer hotter. Overall a lovely place to eat out in the suburbs and staff are always very friendly and attentive.
This place rocks. The place has a very antique, second hand, almost hipster feel to it. The food, which is excellent, does not feel second hand at all.
Great menu, great counter food. The drinks range is awesome and everything's free range/organic.
They do a great eggs bene, but only on weekends. This is good, because if it had bene available on workdays, I would never have made it to the office.
Yay for this place! Excellent range of baked goods, including mini ginger loaves - done the old fashioned way! Good, strong coffee - delicious omelettes too. Friendly staff. Decent view of the kitchen too. Prices are definitely reasonable. Thanks.
My favourite breakfast/brunch place and I eat out everywhere. All the food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and polite (which is quite hard to find). Vege breakfast with brioche is amazing!

I have now been three times this month and every time a delight! The service is faultless. The food selection is good along with prompt service .... and last but not least, coffee is awesome! Totally recommend! Child friendly, GF catered too!
Brunch today (Saturday) with a couple of chums visiting from Bell Block in the 'naki. Fantastic, affordable, food; good coffee; fast, friendly service (they even had 10 people working - I've seen cafés this size try to cheap out and run on 3 or 4 people!). Relaxed atmosphere with a good vibe. If only more Auckland Cafés were like this. Top marks! Oh, and the interior is lovely by the way.

Been here many times. Amazing coffee and amazing food. I love the French toast - with butterscotch syrup..it tastes so amazing. The Burgers and salads also. I have tried several dishes on the menu here. I also love the ginger latte. It tastes so yum! Definitely be visiting Humbug many more times since its a local café too :-)

Lunch at Humbug with a group of friends every Wednesday - food is always so nice and very reasonably priced too. The service is quick and efficient, just what we need when on an hour lunch break - staff are friendly and always read to offer advice about new items on the menu. Have never been disappointed with service or the food ... a really good cafe for mothers and pre-schoolers as well as there is an area for them separate from the main cafe.
Humbug is fantastic - best cafe in the area by a mile. The food is consistently good and really reasonably priced. Cabinet food is delicious and the staff are really friendly. We go every weekend as it is our local and it has never disappointed!
Great little cafe. Authentic. Awesome food. Only thing to add that hasn't been said above is outdoor seating so great place to bring your dog. And it's right near fruitvale station so if visiting from afar take the train and walk one easy block.
I love humbug and come here often for the risotto cakes - coffee is good, staff are friendly, seems to be a haven for coffee groups but there is an area for kids that keeps them out of other diners way (as far as we have experienced).
Consistently great, inspiring cabinet and awesome service. Love it and Millers coffee is hard to beat....agree with others that it can be noisy and if I don't have my kids with me then it's best to sit in the front section.
Always drive past and it is busy so thought we would go in to check it out. So glad we did! Great atmosphere, but more importantly fantastic food and fantastic service!! Both of our meals were hot, fresh and tasty! So many yummy things to choose from the baking cabinet too! Will definitely be making sure to make Humbug a regular thing - so much better than the chain cafes. Go Glen Eden!
I love this cafe! It has the best coffee and the most lovely staff. Awesome decor and there is always something new to try in the cabinet that's retro. You are always able to get parking here and a seat. It is one of my regulars.
The food is absolutely divine. There is really nothing bad I can say about this place. The coffee is nice, the food is amazing, the service is super friendly-- to adults, children and dogs!-- and the prices are very reasonable. Their selection always looks amazing and their shelves are full of organic and fair trade treats to take home. I wish more places in central Auckland were like this place, it really is worth the hype surrounding it at the moment.
Fantastic venue, real tasty food at reasonable prices, try their caramel macadamia slice you wont be disappointed. Excellent fresh coffee and welcoming and friendly staff, instantly felt at home. Clean environment and child friendly. Best place I've been too in ages, would highly recommend. Lets support our community businesses and show its worth coming out west.

Staff are very kid friendly. Was nice to be able to enjoy a lovely lunch and the kids really enjoyed playing in the play area. Humbug Cafe has set a standard well above any cafe I have been to.

We were driving past when we saw this place was busy and it has a large sign on the corner of two roads. Went in and we weren't disappointed. There was a cute and eclectic mix of decor inside and amazing looking food! Helpful service and great food. My Husband's french toast with butterscotch, bacon and banana was delicious, it went very quickly! I enjoyed the traditional free range eggs and bacon. Great coffee too! Bit noisy inside but room for kids to play. There are some tables outside for when it is sunny. :-)
Love this cafe! Moved out from central to west and found a cafe that understands good coffee and good baking! Perfect for mums with toddlers as there's a great play area which my kids love playing in and the flufflies, coffee and baking are the best. They have amazing looking meals but my budget only stretches to coffee and baking. I've been struggling to replicate their vanilla cup cakes at home because they are so more-ish. Looking forward to trying a cooked meal one day because they look amazing! Just be prepared to wait if your getting takeaways because this is a very popular place
I have been to this fantastic cafe many many times and will many many more! Awesome food with a difference - great options that people will recognise, but they put their own twist on it, which makes a nice change!!
Love how it's so kiddie friendly (so do my kids!!) and also if you want to go and be away from it, half the cafe is divided off away from the kids! Brilliant idea!!
The staff are the kind that you hope to come across! Fabulous, lovely friendly and super helpful! - even when it is busy! They do not seem to get flustered one bit!

A little piece of Ponsonby makes it to Glen Eden. Really Fantastic. We need more of this in the west please! Given how busy this place gets, it is clearly a sign that the West needs to grow more businesses like this. There is a demand for it. We love the eggs benedict. Please consider serving these during the week too! Also, feel free to bowl into the neighbouring shops and extend your fabulous cafe for more table opportunities! Love ya!
Great place and so good to see this funny little area utilised so well and with such style.
It was packed when we got there on Sunday for brunch and we thought we'd probably have to wait ages but we got a seat and straight away were offered drinks while we looked at the menu. The service was friendly and prompt, which was really appreciated and the food was delicious.
The eclectic decor and furnishings work well and look great, reminded me a bit of Fat Dog Cafe and Bar in Rotorua. I would have given this 5 stars except I thought $4.50 for 2 mushrooms was a little steep.
The best new cafe around in the whole Titirangi, Glen Eden area - great food, always fresh and great coffee. Spacious and a bit funky - staff always really friendly and theres a great play area for the kids too.
Sadly, this place has got just too busy now and the wait for coffee and food is long and slow. A great place still for mums and babies but if you want a quiet peaceful place to eat your lunch I'd say try somewhere else
Great to have a new place out west. Excellent for kids with a lounge play area in a separate room. Ok coffee and fantastic baking. Especially enjoyed the banoffie pie today.

They serve excellent Millers coffee. The place is nice and spacious with lots of seating. Cool kitsch interior. And they sell Foxton Fizz too plus loads of other great products!
Excellent cabinet food and menu food. The staff here are friendly and welcoming. It does't get much better than this.

Food is the heart of this cafe. It Is bustling and energy filed. Decor is 2nd hand shop which is cool but they need to watch that they replace stuff that becomes too tired. A must for the cafe trail. Recommend weekdays Tues to Fri as weekends have queues.
Best beer batter chips in the west by far. Great service from friendly and attentive staff.

There are few cafes out West Auckland, and even fewer of those garner the level of patronage and loyalty from the locals as Humbug Café. The décor of Humbug reminds me of a run-down bach setting; it’s uber laid back and relaxed with miss-matched chairs and retro furnishings. The hipster staff and the even hipper clients looked chilled out.
I liked the separate room layout for families with young children; they get a space to play and can be watched by their parents, and the rest of the clientele get a childfree brunch. Genius.
While the service is excellent, I haven’t been that convinced of the menu food. It was a bit blah Humbug. The food is absolutely fine, expensive for what it offered, but with all the accolades I had expected to be blown away. I suspect the cabinet food is much better than the menu offerings. There is certainly a huge range on offer, all looking rustic, homemade and very tempting.
I ordered the choco-latte ($4.50), a clever idea and something I think other cafes should pick up on. They serve Millers coffee, and Foxton Fizz drinks. The menu has the usual suspects, with eggs benedicts are only available on the weekend.
Erin ordered the vege breakfast, - mushroom, spinach, tomato, fried potaotes, egg, with no toast and sausages ($17.00 + $4.50 for the sausages). While it was a generous breakfast, it was also quite basic and something you could easily rustle up at home. I had the omelette with house smoked salmon and choose the Mamata organic bagel for my carbs ($15.50). This came with crème fraiche and a tasty tomato relish. The smoked salmon was very salty which overpowered the rest of the flavours.
Humbug is a place for great coffee and a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. I wouldn’t make a special trip out here, but if you’re out discovering West Auckland, it’s a very pleasant place to rest your feet.
Humbug is very 'rustic' in atmosphere. But regardless of location, limited parking and everything else, the food and coffee are hard to beat. If you don't mind wooden seating, wooden tables etc, then drop in and enjoy an awesome breakfast, lunch or grab something from the display cabinet.

Been here many times and really surprised I didn’t drop a review for it already. Previously I ordered the big breakfast, salmon bagel and burgers. All are delicious!
This time I tried something sugary and sweet baby Jesus this was the best French toast I’ve ever had. The butterscotch sauce is delightful and the toast is not dry like some French toasts can be. It’s accompanied with berry and a cream with which I’m not familiar.
Also had a hot chocolate with it and that hit the spot! Excellent balance of froth and chocolates taste. A great winter treat.
The staff, as always were very friendly and the service was quick despite how busy they were.
This place is always a safe bet for food. If you haven’t tried it yet, where have you been all this time?!
It was such a cosy corner despite it not looking very modern and the food tasted so fresh and good with the staff being so sweet and helpful. We got the mince lamb, the moccachino bowl and french toast (sweet) both were nice big portions for the price and the savoury warm mince paired well with the sourdough bread and was great this cold day. The french toast was a tad bit too sweet fore but nonetheless delicious and moccachino was perfect and had enough caffeine to last me days. Do give it a visit.
The cafe is located off the main roads so it is quite isolated. there is plenty of parking around though.
They are quite big and act both as a cafe and a grocer, selling a few interesting items such as Foxton sodas. I did stop by to have breakfast. There are plenty of tables inside and out. The inside area is separated into two, where the one further back looks to be more like a family room and a bit more casual.
I ordered the Humbug grill and a hot chocolate from the menu but they also did have cabinet food. The hot chocolate was nice and did come with marshmallows. The grill was decently sized and had a selection of different items. I quite liked the schnitzel since it was quite different to other grills. The salsa and the beans were quite interesting and nice too.
It is quite an interesting cafe hidden off the beaten path.
Fantastic! Fresh, delicious. I had the prawn Rosti in my friend had French toast. The coffees were perfect as well.

Very popular cafe. Foods nice. Any issues dealt with quickly and without a fuss. Only thing we struggled with, was how loud it is there. Next time will try outside, weather permitting.

One of the best local cafes in the area. A good selection of menu with the conventional eggs bene and Humbug Grill breakfast which I prefer. Staff are really attentive and friendly, they look like they are having a good time working there. Place is decorated very homy and cozy, nothing too fancy. Perfect for a weekend relaxing brunch.

I ordered a potato rosti stack and a bowl mocha - and overestimated my appetite because it was really filling! But the flavours so well balanced! And the mocha was really good! It was made with real chocolate and shaved chocolate on top -such a bonus!
The most incred chips to grace West Akl!! Like UNREAL! Always a great coffee, too! Other kai can be hit or miss and same with service - sometimes they're on the ball and friendly, other times they can be rude and dismissive. But the CHIPS - soo good.
Really good food!! I got tomatoes, feta and pesto on toast w a side of potatoes and a ginger latte. My hubby did think his coffee was quite bitter but happy they had alternative milks. Also great area for kids to play in and must be tidied before you leave.
Tucked hidden in Glen Eden, this is a nice surprise for us who's recently moved in West Auckland. The staff were busy but served us on decent time. The place brings a nostalgic vintage feel with a lounge room for the little ones to play and feel at home. Getting the humbug breakfast, the servings were just right. Loving the fried potatoes, nice and golden and well seasoned. Will definitely be back! Also the bread nearly jumped out at me together with my whole breakfast, next time I'll ask for a shared knife hehe!
