We were really impressed with Bean There cafe staff and food today. Father’s Day is always a busy one and we had 3 additional adults added last minute to our booking (ended up being 9 adults, 2 kids) and they were accommodating and very flexible. Food was lovely and came out promptly. Kids play area was perfect also. Definitely recommend!
Nice place for breakfast, coffee and they have a play pit for kids. Coffee was very nice, food just as good and portion was good as well. Would return and try something else from their menu.
Bean there cafe ! For all your beany needs.
Marvellous place for coffee and so many varieties of green tea.
A bit pricy but the portions are large, you pay for what you get.
Very friendly and efficient customer service. The environment was nice and clean. The drinks and food were nice and tasty. We serviced our order in less than 10 minutes. 😊
Lovely and cozy setting just up the road from the busy cafes in Onehunga. Love the Eggs Benedict with a large hot chocolate (which comes in a bowl). It is a bit pricey but I enjoy the space and timeliness of receiving our orders. Their signature burger is a must try too - well seasoned and not too dry. They also provide parking space behind as well.
I’ve been here 3x with the kids and it had been excellent. Friendly service and really good breakfasts. Lots of space inside and they have baking to takeaway also. A great option for families. I always have eggs, and they’re always done well. Good coffee too.
Family friendly, open space with relaxed atmosphere away from the usual hustle and bustle I'm used to with the Onehunga Mall strip. I had the "Bean There Big Breakfast" ($22.50) with a side of fries & aioli ($9.00) which is pricier than the big breakfast I can get from Gleway cafe down the same strip BUT there's no denying that Bean There is in a class of it's own. Unobtrusive, fast service with food that packed a punch one would hardly need salt and pepper to add flavor. Prime bacon strips that were perfectly crispy with scrambled eggs cooked exactly as requested and the awesome creamy mushroom to tie it all together, there isn't much to fault here. While I did cringe at paying $9.00 for a bowl of fries, they were fresh with just the right amount of crunch (the aioli itself was well worth the price) and my iced coffee (no cream) was satisfyingly strong. I can't wait to go back for more!
One of my favourite places in Onehunga. Good prices, yummy food and great service. Had the beans with eggs which was awesome.
Really good option if you're hungry after going to Dress Smart, specially cos the places in the mall are terrible.
Walked up the road from another cafe that was very loud and busy as we didn’t want the noise or a long wait for food - Bean There was perfect as the service was friendly and quick and we could enjoy our breakfast in peace, as although there were a handful of other patrons, it didn’t feel overcrowded. Simple menu, done well. Caters for gluten free/dairy free. Great range of leaf teas.
The customer service, the quality of food and coffee have really improved over the last few months. I'm coming in almost daily due to the Instagram stories being posted up. Whoever does their Social Media is amazing.
My favourite thing to get would the scone and coffee combo for $6.00. They serve it with butter, cream, apricot AND strawberry jam 😍 Id it was served on weekends I would be in then too.
First time coming on a Tuesday morning, the lady at the counter was friendly and attentive.
For the price of the brownie, it’s definitely worth it considering the size as most cafes charge the same amount for 1/3 of the size. Taste wise, I didn’t have any as it was too early for that much sugar for myself.
I also ordered coffee for a friend and I. A soy flat white & a caramel latte. Both coffees (small & large) had a strong dominant coffee taste which is good, although can be a bit overpowering for some.
Would come again for a coffee if I’m heading in that direction.
Went here the first time with an entertainment voucher which was good. Since then we've gone back a few times as we enjoyed it. Coffee is lovely. Great menu and cabinet good is delicious too.
Just got coffee here. Cabinet food looked nice but was expensive. This place has a good atmosphere and looks tidy and clean.theres also parking at the back of the cafe
Love coming here on a lazy Sunday. The atmosphere is always great and its a unique and quirky place. The staff are always great. The eggs bene is pretty tastey too .
Use to be my usual each morning but since the old owners have left it lost its usual touch... I think it was the nice friendly face behind the coffee machine that's missing. The staff is still friendly and the foods average to above. Really good during winter when the fire is cranking and you get in early to reserve a spot in front of it. I still pop in from time to time and would recommend if you're in the area.
First impressions were positive, with tables outside in the spring sunshine, a bowl of water for any passing dogs is a thoughtful gesture. The french doors with all the glass give the cafe a vintage appeal which continues inside. This is a comfortable space with the option of upstairs seating and a children's area, beside it comfortable couches. The staff are friendly and efficient in their work. I was there mid-morning when it was quiet.
I had the corn fritters. The sauce came separate which I like as I don't add these sweet touches to my food. There was plenty of sour cream, the fritters looked slightly oily but tasted fine. The bacon was crisp which is how I like it. I loved my latte, it was perfect. I'll definitely return here.
Brunch saturday with my boyfriend. We came to bean there as the original place we wanted to go had no seats outside. I ordered mince on toast and bf got thebeef burger. The mince on toast was flavourful. Down side is my poached eggs were a little too cooked. The beef burger was delicious, the patty was juicy. I got a soy latte too, thier coffee was okay, it was a little mellow as i liked stronger coffee. Overall it was good.
Heard good things about this cafe so popped in for brunch in the weekend. This place was surprisingly big with plenty of seating across two levels. They have a small area behind the building for parking as well as off street parking.
This place was buzzing with small groups and families. After placing our order we opted for the table right in front of the fireplace, just what we needed on a cool day but be warned you'll definitely feel the heat! We opted for two big breakfasts - my partner switched out the bacon and sausage for a vegetarian option with avo and an extra hashbrown. They also have a good selection of cabinet food for those on the go.
It took quiet awhile to get our breakfast but our waiter did apologise when they arrived. The dishes were well portioned as we'd expect. Each element was good but nothing extraordinary or that was a standout.
They have heaps of options on the menu so would like to try some more. A nice cafe for families!
Have known this cafe a long time ago, but it was my first time to grab some food this morning. Spent $ 4.50 for a regular flat white and only $ 1.50 for a date scone. Although the coffee was a little bit bitter to me, but the foam was pretty enough. And they served even a scone with a paper plate and plastic knife, that was a unique feature. Friendly staff.
Great little cafe! Came here on a saturday morning... service was alittle slow and took the staff alittle while to click we were there. We ordered a big breakfast and eggs benedict. Both meals were good. Only negative for the big breakfast was the creamy mushrooms were more oily than creamy. Good local!
Spent many happy hours here drinking flat whites. I particularly like the mezzanine floor. The coffee was good and the staff are efficient and friendly.
I tend to prefer cafes who do something out of the usual run, so I was a bit disappointed to find that pretty much all of Bean There's menu is café classics. (That's not their fault, just my preference!) I hesitated between the beef burger and the potato cakes with poached eggs and salmon and in the end went for the potato cakes. I was glad I did as someone a couple of tables away had the beef burger and I could smell the oil the fries were cooked in all the way across the café. (My mother and her friends had this the following day and said it was fine, so hopefully they changed the oil that night.)As for the potato cakes, they were great - tasty and a big serving. The coffee was also excellent, and the service was good. The carpark out the back was a plus. I'd go back, but only if I was in the mood for a standard café dish.
Pancakes were nice and coffee was great. The bagels tasted great too. Overall, was a good place for having brunch. Environment was busy but cosy for catchup with friends.
Fabulous little cafe right at our doorstep. Great coffee, food and service. Our daughters new hot chocolate place. Love supporting local 👍🙂
I've been here for breakfast several times and I've just had take away coffee. Coffee is excellent. Food is very good, great portion sizes. According to my partner in food eating the savory mince is worth driving from Karaka for!! Atmosphere is great, I'm not sure what it is about the place but large groups don't impinge on the rest of the space. Highly recommend this place:)
Bean there cafe is a busy cafe on he main strip in Onehunga. With two levels of seating, you'll no doubt be welcomed into this cafe. Although the cafe was quite busy this afternoon, service was impeccable and no faults at all there.
The menu is quite a standard menu - nothing out of the ordinary, so we went with our ordinary options. French toast w bacon and fruits and bacon avocado and tomato bagel. Meals were decently priced and a good portion too. Personally, I like my maple syrup separated from my dish, so I can control the sweetness. The French toast was instead swimming in the syrup rendering the bread too sweet to eat.
I do like that they have soy coconut milk, almond milk and rice milk options for coffee though :-)
This place is my top cafe in Onehunga. The family who run it know all their regulars by name and have created a homely and inviting atmosphere with great coffee! Great place for catch up with friends or conferences as there is a large upstairs private area. The daily homemade muffins are a treat and you can pick them up warm everyday around 8am, you won't regret it. Brunch portions are generous as well and they know how to put on a good spread. Nice place for chilled out Sunday brekkie. Good work team!
I went here with a large group of people. There were also 2 babies that needed high chairs which they had. They have a large area upstairs with added couches for a cosy feel. They also have a nice outdoor area. I also thought having parking out the back of the cafe really helpful.
The food was awesome. I had a bacon gourmet sandwich. I also had a hot chocolate which was yummy. The people who I had lunch with also enjoyed their meals.
The cabinet and menu options are nice here- you have your standard cafe items but they're presented nicely and the service is good.
The coffee is good and I haven't had any issues with the quality of food or service. It's close to my parents place and it's dog friendly so it's great for family brunch.
Decent portions and it's pretty standard pricing for cafe food
My friend and I came to Bean There Cafe for a Sunday cafe catch up. It is quite a large cafe with plenty of options for seating which was nice and we didn't feel crammed in even though there was quite a few people dining.
I had mince on toast which was served on ciabatta. The eggs could have been cooked for a wee bit longer as the white was still watery but since I like poached eggs runny as opposed to hard I wasn't too worried. My friend had a coffee and scone and said it was one of the best scones she's had in a long time.
Some of the meals come with free hot drinks which is a nice touch, and the service was friendly and attentive, always nice to see on a busy day.
Just wandering up Onehunga Mall wondering what to have for lunch. I saw several places that could do the job. Went for the Been There Cafe because it had big windows and looked 'cared for'. Once inside, I was spoilled for choice between the glass cabinet full of Paninis, salads, muffins, cakes, salads and slices.... And the specials menu... AND the a la carte menu.
The staff helped me with choosing. If I asked about something they frankly told me whey they thought of it. I quickly settled on the mince and toast with two poached eggs. That barista said it was his favourite.
I can see why. It was really good. Full of flavour and not the least bit watery or thin and there was heaps of it. For $16.50, including a good-sized 'medium' coffee, I thought it was great value.
The food was delivered to my table quickly. The staff were pleasant. I was offered a glass of water along with my medium (I chose flat white) coffee.
I'll be back.
There is something so homely, comforting and reliable about Bean There Cafe. The decor is inviting and unobtrusive and the upstairs area allows for plenty of seating options. I've been here many times before and today I came with my family for Mother's Day lunch. It was extremely busy and even though staff seemed slightly flummoxed (totally understandable!) the orders were politely taken.
The coffee was reliable and strong (Burtons) and my mince on toast was really tasty. The toast was a bit dry but the poached eggs made up for it. On the whole everyone enjoyed their meals (dad loved the hearty big breakfast) but my partner was a tad disappointed with the mushrooms which were served in a watery and overly buttery sauce.
At the end the staff apologised if the service was a bit under par but we were totally okay with it as we know the service is tight under usual circumstances. Great of them to acknowledge this however. Like a good friend, we will back to visit them again soon!
Sunday 26 April 15. 1st visit. Impression of the place looks small from the front. On entering its huge, upstairs and downstairs. Pre booked our seats of 15 people. Car park at the back of the cafe. Celebrated a bday brunch. Staff extremely patient very friendly and professional. Ordered our dish, nice presentation and appetizing. Delicious too. Very affordable. Thoroughly enjoyed the company and the atmosphere. Thank you @bean there cafe staff. Keep up the good work.
This is a fave brunch venue, for our family b'days and catch ups, it's spacious inside w. upstairs and downstairs dining areas and the eggs benedict and big breakfast are always winners. The freshly baked muffins are a take home must have too. Plenty of side street parking and they have their own parking space behind the building.
Finally came here for brunch after having it bookmarked on my page for a couple of months. Lovely business that is run by wonderful owners. There mango smoothies are out of this world same goes for there coffee. Food and drinks are reasonably priced.
The food is A+ so is there customer service. All the employees are friendly and very welcoming. Will definitely be coming back to Bean There Cafe.
Lovely clean little establishment. Coffee strong as i like it. Nice chiller selection and very friendly staff. I only popped in for a coffee but next time i'm in onehunga.
Favourite Cafe - friendly staff, awesome coffee, great food, child friendly and they even remember your name :) lol

Popped in for a cuppa with miss 6 & mr 5 during school holidays. Crisp sunny winters day. Ordered Flatwhite $4.00, white chocolate & cranberry slice $4.50 and 2 free fluffies.
Apparently fluffies a free here, and standard sml fw is 2 shots. Very nice coffee, colouring for kids & a play area for small kids. Slice was very tasty and came with cream or yoghurt. Charming staff.
We needed a break from the weather - this was the perfect stop on our walk (and they were completely ok with children eating from there lunch boxes - thanks)
It was Mothers Day, packed and busy but we received great service and awesome tasting food. For a group of 12, they did extremely well, highly recommend this place especially as a break from the busy mall :)
We went there on Easter Sunday for a morning coffee. The deal was a coffee and a muffin or scone for $6. The scones were huge! Fantastic value. Not only that there is no surcharge on a public holiday. To top it all off the staff walked around offering all their customers an Easter egg. The staff were all so smiling and friendly and the place had a warm, cosy feel to it. I can't wait to go back there! by far the best café I have been to in a long time.
I've seen this place be a lot of things over the years - always really average bars, etc but for valentines day my darling took me there for breakfast and it was really good. I had French toast and my boyfriend had.. A big breakfast or something - both were really good sizes and great waitresses, esp because I'm a picky person. I have been recommending this place to people and will defiantly be going again!
This is the first review I have ever given on this site as I believe Jeff and his team deserve a mention - I have been visiting these guys for awhile now - genuine service, the best flat whites in Onehunga (the Velo blend is excellent..), light and airy aesthetic and the "1 %'s" like bringing water to your table keeps me coming back. Keep up the good work guys!
Bean there cafe is my new favourite!
This is the first time using this menu mania, but I felt it was very necessary to write a review, because I'm so pleased with the service, food, and coffee!
I thought I'd try the bubble and squeak, from the all day menu, it was divine. I also ordered a flat white, and was one of the nicest I've had in a long time!
I can't wait to come back and try something else off the menu! Everything looks so yummy. Good stuff to all the staff, you have one very happy customer :D
I've never actually eaten the food but the coffee is amazing, and the service is very friendly! Just put a sidewalk sign out so we can tell when you are open when driving past so I remember to stop more often!
Amazing cafe! Went for brunch with family and we all absolutely loved our meals! In-laws thought the eggs benedict they all had was perfect and the best they had ever had!
I had the blueberry pancakes, (which they now can make gluten free - yay!!!) and they were absolutely devine - the best pancakes I have ever had!
Great friendly and attentive service as well!!
Awesome!!!
This has become a regular lunch spot for us. The food is great and the service is second to none. Pricing good also. Highly recommend this as a place to have the best coffee around, the best food and be treated as special by all of the staff.
If you want a great coffee and good home cooked food this is where you need to go. The atmosphere along with the staff are just fantastic and even customers are very friendly towards each other. You have a great choice of food from hot to cold. I love my coffee and have to say that this was one of the best coffees I have ever had.
Well done to you all for making my experience worth talking about.

I always go here for breakfast before going to Dressmart which is just down the road. They have the yummiest portobello mushrooms and the spicy chorizo on toast. Coffee was great. Open space atmosphere with plenty of seating.
Some friends and I visited Bean There Cafe following a late night in the city so a nourishing carb laden breakfast was in the cards. Service at Bean There Cafe was very friendly and service is made at the counter.
We ordered Eggs Benedict with mushroom, ham cheese and onion omelette on five grain and mince on sour dough. Our food was lovely and coffees were very good. An order for spicy chai went amiss however you live and learn.
I can finally say I've been there! The coffee was really good and they have it in bowl size, they serve Burtons coffee which ive never tried. I got an eggs bene which was alright.
Best home cooking of any café in Onehunga. I was impressed by the decor, staff and the fresh food which was great. The Russian cook is very talented
Cool little place in Onehunga.
Came here for a late lunch on a Sunday.
Coffee was great and food was of a high standard.
There is also limited parking available at the back of the building
One suggestion for improvement would be that it is not obvious that you need to order at the counter. We sat for 10 minutes without having an order taken, so we realised you need to order at the counter. Perhaps they could put a note on the menu to order at the counter.
Asides from that I enjoyed eating here and if I am back in the area will definitely return. Worth all 5 start.
Homely. Pretty old looking establishment though, best to skip this one if you are a big germophobe 🤔
I was impressed. Omelette quality was 5+ star. Pity the toast wasn't as warm as should be. But I am on a carb free diet so it didn't effect my Omelette.
Great food, amazing coffee and so family friendly that's it's crazy.
I also love the fireplace and the spacious upstairs.
Love their Hot Chocolates. Really nice. Wish they had Uber Eats so I can order from work. Was surprised to see a waitress serving people with headphones on. But can't complain about the service we got from our server. Food was average. Good experience, great environment and amazing hot chocolates!!!!
I have been to this cafe last week and enjoyed the food. I had mango smoothie and open chicken sandwich was very awesome and yum staff is friendly. I suggest every one to try a food here. At last I had a hot chocolate coffee it was really nice.with every meal they serve a free hot drink.
Spacious cafe plenty of room for quiet chat over coffee. They make hot drinks to my specifications good variety of food excellent babychange facilities and kids play area.Parking at rear and access door at rear too.
Have been here a couple of times. Great atmosphere for family. Decent sized kids area that's cordened off. Service is great the food not bad.. try the blueberry mascapony!
Prices may seem a bit high but the meals come with a hot drink .. (try their teas!)
Better than I expected. Nice coffee, water bought to the table, a good selection of food, offstreet parking, and some seating on the street (plus some great big opening doors).
And yet, from a purely personal perspective, it just didn't really appeal...and I can't say what was missing.
So I suggest give it a try, at least once, especially on a sunny day. And make up your own mind...
Always great service and delicious food . Have been a regular for years and the quality is always on point .
Outstanding coffee and ice chocolate.
Kid friendly .
Highly recommend.
On a round trip from Ponsonby with baby I arrived in Onehunga tired, hungry and potentially irritable. I took a punt and I had a great experience. Competent, genuinely hospitable, reasonably priced. Tasty muffin, good tea, and the waitress brought me water. Highchair and playpen, tick, tick :)
