Came here with my son and his girlfriend.. as he counts/records what he eats for his gym training, it's perfect ....they got smoothies which were really nice and gave you the leftover bit in a glass, nice. They ordered a chicken burger and beef burger in a Kumera bun which they both enjoyed. I just got sides, bacon toast and avocado. Nice big clean place friendly service great concept.
I had the salmon stack for lunch today and it was amazing. The portion of salmon seemed a bit on the small side but with everything else that it comes with I was full for the day.
The service was great and the lady serving us was very friendly.
We were a group of 7, 4 in the group had the burgers and only one actually enjoyed it. I realise it's wonderful fresh, healthy produce but $22 for a burger is a big too pricey given it doesn't come with sides.
I thought my meal was on point price wise as was the gainz on gainz big breakfast which the other 2 guys at our table had. They both really enjoyed them.
I would go here again but would maybe just sick to the breakfast menu as it seems more value for money.
Great food! Full of flavour you can taste, servings of food were well portioned and an insane Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake! Definitely coming back here more often for healthy eating without the guilty feeling of having delicious food. Shot guys!
Fantastic location with great views. We went for lunch on a sunny Sunday and were surprised to find how quiet it was. I ordered a burger and shake. The shake was AMAZING but the burger was a bit tricky to eat (fell apart easily). The food overall is very tasty though not necessarily 'healthier' than other resteraunts. Friendly service (thanks) and we enjoyed the quotes on the wall.
If you're the kind of person who likes micro managing macros - you will love GAINZ. Every item on it's menu has the macro nutrient profile beside it. And while everything here is "healthy" it all tastes pretty damn good too.
We went here on a weekday afternoon. I ordered the Twisted Italy (200gm chicken breast served with spinach and kumara gnocchi) which was quite nice. Service is great - the place is run like a mid-tier restaurant.
If you're feeling like a clean meal, or want to know exactly what you're eating (protein, calories et al), hit this place up. But expect to pay a "health tax". As they say - no pain, no GAINZ.
Such a neat restaurant with a cool concept. I had the fish burger with kumara bun which was delicious, and my mother had the teriyaki salmon bowl with quinoa; the sauce was amazing and complemented the salmon well. The staff were friendly and gave heir opinion on different dishes which I found to be very helpful. Can't wait to dine here again.
This place is where you come to shred I've been told! Food is clean, low in fats and carbs etc.
We had the pina colada smoothie (they brought out the extra left in the blender) the Carb Up (AMAZING) toast/eggs/avo and coffee all really good value for money and packed with flavour a great spot to see the ferries come in.
Me and my Parenter are travelling New Zealand. Getting off the boat from Waiekie and when To Gainz Eatey to have lunch. We were greeted by a friendly tall blond waiter, he then sat us down and recommended the burgers with a side of kumara fries. In the end we ordered Ostrich burger and the Build your own (interesting mix of chicken, salmon, brown rice, green beans and kale). The meal came out at a reasonable time and was utterly amazing. Everything was totally delicious the ostrich so juicy, the chili peach chuntey was beautiful. Everything on the Built your own we order was cooking to absolutely amazing. salmon cooked to perfection. During this meal we were checked by someone who seemed to be the manager whom checked to see if everything was OK for us which really added to the overall experience. When we when to pay even the chef asked us how our meal was, We could only respond with the highest praise.
Thank you so much Gainz team everything was amazing A+ team, awesome service, awesome food. Definitely be back before we leave and for sure be back when we visit again. Grazie
@growandinspireNZ
A cold Saturday afternoon and feeling like burgers we headed to Gainz. Perfect venue to snuggle up in their blankets and tuck into a healthy alternative burger. 3 burgers coming up,Ostrich, Chicken and a classic Beef burger all with Kumera buns and a side of Kumera fries to share. Tasty, fresh and healthy, only down side was to see the fries served with standard tomato sauce, would be good to see a healthy alternative possible a Paleo version?!
Also a must try is the Peanut butter cup - AMAZING!! Thanks team 👍
When you're eating clean you kind of expect that you'll have to take a second mortgage out at some point and GAINZ is not exception. BUT it's well worth it. I like to get a salmon, some greens and a bit of Kumara. Its tasty, well cooked and nutritious! There is no other place like it that I have encountered in Auckland so far and I can see why these guys are so popular. They also have and awesome fresh interior that makes you feel healthier just looking at it.
Still don't know what GAINZ stands for but its sure to be punny because you're sure to get gains from GAINZ
This place is awesome! 💪🏻. Even if you aren't into eating healthy it's still totally worth a try. The food doesn't have that 'health' taste which does put a lot of people off - including myself. The meals are wholesome and filling. I can't contain myself at the happiness I felt knowing each and every item on the menu had a calorie breakdown besides it, this is literally my dream for every restaurant. Staff are lovely and extremely accommodating towards your needs. Prices are a bit steep and this would be the only negative! Will be coming back when I'm in the city 😄
Being health conscious people we are always looking for the healthier options and these days there not alot of places to chose from. But this place is AMAZING. Food is so full of flavour portion sizes are just right and i love the fact the menu tells you all the nutritional information u want. Calories protein carbs gluten free nut free its good to see what your actually eating. Hubby had the salmon stack and loved it. I had eggs on rosti with avo and really enjoyed it too. Will definitely be back to enjoy this amazing food and friendly service.
After all the hype of this place I was a little let down... I am a personal trainer and nutrition coach so I understand food quite well. This place was ok for a 'clean eating' place but food was not that flavoursum. Decent size meals but I felt like the ingredients didn't really compliment each other. Unfortunately they had no lamb or salmon which was a disappointment as they looked like the better options out of the lot.
Staff were great though and very efficient.
Came here as we got the GrabOne voucher for a meal as well as the protein shake vouchers (though we found out you can't use the vouchers together). I had the fish burger which was more Asian inspired as it had pink ginger and a slaw with bean sprouts and I also added in some smashed avocado. I wouldn't say that this would be my first choice of flavours but it was an interesting combination. The venison chilli turned out to be a tad salty but was better with the avocado and bread. However, the chocolate peanut butter shake was great as it was nice and rich and the tropics shake was more of a summery and refreshing shake! The Pina colada shake was also quite good and wasn't too sweet :) The staff were great and we're very polite and inviting!
I’m currently taking a brief holiday in Auckland and I found Gainz Eatery nice and close to The Hilton where I am staying. The menu looked fresh and tasty so I decided to give it a try. Overall the restaurant has a wonderfully clean feel both in decor but menu as well. Lots of high protein, low carb options which makes me think they are kinda catering to the body builder set. There were def a few beefy blokes present however there were also plenty of everyone else so let’s put it more into the healthy, clean eating category.
A fresh change for a healthy lunch. A friend and I went for lunch here last week and shared a beautiful chicken burger and had the tropics Mango based drink each that was like a holiday in a glass. I'm glad this is so close to the office cos we'll be back. We've even discussed sneaking down for the peanut butter cup for a healthy chocolate fix when those cravings hit. Yum!
I came here for a cheeky grab one protein shake for lunch. The staff were friendly, the place was like the food....very clean. The menu was brilliant in that it displayed the calories, protein, carbs and fat approximation in each meal. Great if you're watching you're weight...or shredding for that special occasion #rnv. I got the peanut butter protein shake which was damn good. No issues at all. Very keen to try their lunch menu
Excellent option for those who are health conscious. All the macronutrients are displayed on the menu making it super clear exactly what's in your meal.
The classic beef burger and the ostrich burger were both juicy and well cooked. Loved the buns too.. They're quite dense but very tasty. The smoothies were probably the highlight for me. We tried the lime pie and peanut butter smoothies and both were delicious. Smooth, creamy and nutritious. Loved leaving feeling guilt-free about my lunch indulgences. Service was good too! All our food was out within 15 minutes and it's reasonably priced for the quality of the food.
Went here for brunch a week ago
Nice clean outlet with welcoming staff
A definite worthwhile visit for the fitness buffs for the after workout meal..
The menu is varied with calorific content of the whole dish identified for each item
We had the ostrich burger which was served on a kumara bun ( there was an alternative spelt bun on the menu but wasn't asked our preference) and the stacked salmon
Both were presented well with the burger having a nice char taste to it. The salmon was flavoursome and well paired with its accompaniments of spinach, rosti and hollandaise
The clean green shake added a freshness and zing to the palate
Overall a decent meal
It's definitely refreshing and nice to see an eatery with its macros and energy intake listed down on their menu next to each food. With the new health trend that's spreading around, GAINZ fits in pretty well by having an extensive variety of healthy meal options (inc. paleo, vegetarian, low carb etcetc.) Located right in the viaduct, the ambiance and environment is superb especially on sunny days where you can sit outside on the benches. The staff are also extremely friendly and enthusiastic about what they serve ( one waiter in particularly seemed overly excited about their protein pancakes haha).
I had visited GAINZ with a friend for a weekday lunch with a grabone voucher. The options on offer all sounded so good, but in the end we opted for the Seared Tuna bowl which I chose to be served on a bed of quinoa, and the Twisted Italy which was chicken breast served with spinach and sweet potato gnocchi.
Seared Tuna: 6/10 I was extremely happy to see the generous amount of Tuna pieces this dish came with, however the taste itself of the salad + the soy orange and ginger dressing was extremely bland in my opinion and felt really oily. For a price of $22.50, I dont think I would get this dish again haha
Twisted Italy: 9/10, on the other hand, THIS I would defeinitely reccomend; especially if you're a sweet potato fan as the gnocchis were literally little balls of sweet potatoes mashed together haha. The sauce it came with was bursting with flavour and the huge serving of chicken is perfectly cooked and moist. High reccomend!! :)
Overall, GAINZ is a good place to go to if you're after a healthy fix and a nice atmosphere, however the price is slightly on the higher side but you do get what you pay for in terms of quantity and quality :) will come back to try out their 'legendary' protein pancakes :D
Must try: Twisted Italy
Finally visited Gainz today with mates, was very impressed with it. Good service friendly staff, the food was amazing ordered chicken and gnochi with vegetables. Was pleasantly surprised, tasted amazing. A must for anyone looking for guilt free food. Would go back again!!!
Had the Ostrich burger here and it was very interesting, in a good way. Was also a bit cheeky and decided to order a Mocha shake to accompany my burger.
I like how the menu items are presented with Protein, Calorie, Carbs, and Fat counts.
I was a little bit worried about coming here as it seems to get mixed reviews, however I had nothing to worry about cause my experience was great! Our waiter was attentive and really welcoming, we chose to sit outside and look over the waterfront and take advantage of wrapping up in the fluffy blankets they provide. The place has a cool, fresh vibe without being too clean cut as to make you feel out of place. It's also nice to get out of the hustle of the city and watch the water :)
The food was excellent, after pondering the extensive menu and deciding we definitely had to come back for lunch at some point, we settled on the dessert pancakes with extra whipped cream, the clean and lean omelette and a peanut butter thick shake. The pancakes were like the best pancakes ever (and I love pancakes so I don't say that lightly), heaps of chocolate sauce and generous on the cream. The omlette could have done with more filling and a relish on the side but in general was very tasty and great smashed up on the whole grain bread. The shake was out of this world good, very peanut buttery... But I wish I'd asked for a scoop of icecream In it, oh well I know what to do next time!
The only downside is gainz is very pricey, our two dishes were $33 and the shake was $10.50 on top of that. Probably not somewhere I'd go regularly so if they could get the price down abit or make the meals slightly better value it would feel more justifiable. Overall though, fantastic meal and despite other reviewers complaining about service personally the service was some of the best I've had in Auckland so let your staff know they are actually awesome people doing an awesome job and make me want to come back!
Lunch was absolutely lovely. The food was full of flavors, served up by friendly and efficient staff. The chef did an excellent job and the ambiance was great. Couldn't have asked for more. Even the scenery was worth itAdam Muirson
The chicken and fish burgers are really nice, with good flavour. The kumara bun is also delicious. Would be good to come with some sort of side dish though.
The gnocchi is surprisingly light and also really nice.
The salmon bowl is OK and the fish tacos are ok but the actual taco shells could be better.
Have been wanting to go with friends who are looking for a clean meal. Tried during the week but didn't realise they were closed after 6.
Came in tonight with 3 friends and we're quickly seated.
Place is very nice. Love the menus with the macros.
I got the chicken burger and friends for chilli and burgers.
The food was really good and came out quickly.
Desert was the protein pancakes and they were amazing. Food is a little pricy but then again I saw spinach and kale juice for $9 for 250ml down custome Street - which puts things in perspective.
I will definitely be going back and recommended it to anyone looking for a clean meal to fit their macros :)
Love this place...one of the few places where you can get real healthy food at reasonable prices... The coffee too is just awesome... Beautiful blend.. Ambience is perfect with the perfect location on the wharf... Cosy place with a very good customer service... Favourite food in there is the pancake, porridge and the custom salads... Love it...
Great food! Aesthetic view! Clean interior! Amazing customer service 👌🏻 would definitely recommend and will come back for sure! Stomach got a mean pump after eating here! Got me feeling like phil heath 💪🏿
Great little healthy food eatery. I got the chicken salad. It was very nicely poached and flavoured. My partner accidentally spilt his coffee and the staff came a tended to it straight away. They also replace the with a new one. Outstanding service.
We got our Gainz at GAINZ!! Really great service and great meals! We were treated amazingly by the staff and would totally recommend this place to family and friends!
I was greeted at the door by friendly staff who took my wet umbrella before showing me to my seat. Then I saw the menu and fell in love with the place. You know the macro breakdown for every meal and can also build your own mix of protein, fat and carb meal. I had poached eggs on wholemeal toast with avocado smash and everything was spot on. The coffee even tasted reasonable. Ill be back! Keep up the good service, hopefully its not a "new opening special".
Loved this place. Good clean food that fits with your macros. Or perfect for those who watch what they eat. Highly recommended. Place was clean for was super fresh, service was awesome. The only issue is they aren't located closer to my house.
An AMAZING experience!!! The staff were genuinely friendly, they all beamed as my friend and I walked in and our waitress was very chatty and easy to talk to.
The location is quite out of the way which is a shame because not many people walk past this beaut! It is gorgeous looking out over the harbour though. The interior is clean, modern, fresh, inspiring, and uplifting with all the motivational writing on the wall. The seating was comfortable and clean... which made a big impact, especially since I am writing it in a review.
I ordered the Carb Up, which was rice porridge... I usually hate rice porridge and I only got it because it was the cheapest thing on the menu... and i had NO REGRETS :) for a food that I usually hate, this porridge was delectable. Very sweet and the fruit on top was... interesting, but added a good texture contrast and the porridge-topping ratio was spot on. I left feeling very full and satisfied for hours.
My friend ordered the Banana and Mango Chia Pudding, and while I usually hate chia pudding too... I ended up stealing a decent amount of hers too.
The menu is a little pricey which means however much I'd love to come here every day... my wallet might not be able to stretch that far :(
Definitely will not be the last time I visit this place though!! This will just be one of many.
Had the Ostrich Burger with Kumera Bun and Bacon and Mushroom. Damn tasty and very satisfying. 👍🏼👌🏼 Keen to try more of the menu. Some interesting looking shakes.
Always wanted a place like this to open up and it finally has. The selection was good and the staff were very friendly. I had the potato and chicken with a tomato sauce and protein pancakes. Both were delicious and it was nice knowing the calorie and other macro inputs so didn't have to feel guilty!
This is a once in a life time beauty! The setting itself is so fresh with lots of colour and inviting to your senses. You are greeted first of all by very friendly staff who love what they do.
The menu is amazing all the different type of food that is on offer. With a legend of what is high in Energy, Protein, Nut Free etc.
I had the Venison chilli with Kumara Sourdough, Chicken Burger (with Kumara bun), and Chocolate Tart. Every single thing was cooked to perfection. The tart was velvety smooth, chicken perfectly seared and the chilli was sensational.
Overall great experience and an excellent location. Will go off during summer I can imagine. Best of luck Sipra and hope nothing but the best for you and your team!
This is the restaurant my wife and I have been dreaming about. I will try to contain my enthusiasm but it's hard.
This is a place that's perfectly set up for people who care about what they put in their bodies. It's Paleo friendly and Keto friendly (which is rare). The macros (Pro, CHO, Fat and Kcal) are broken down for everything on the menu. This is so brilliant. I had a pizza because it was only 33g of carbohydrate in the whole thing. Normally I have to avoid pizza because of the high CHO values.
The menu contains a "Build your own" section which is a master stroke. You pick your protein, carb and vege components which are all individually priced. So if you want just meat and veg, you aren't forced to ask them to remove the carb or sub it with something else. Sauces can be added for an extra $2 and they have a wide variety of low-carb, low sugar options.
The pizza I had was spectacular. The beef was perfectly seasoned and flavoursome, paired well with bacon and caramelised onions. Not over sauced or over cheesed. The gluten free base actually tasted good, which is a rarity for gluten free anything.
I am really pleased that they tell you when something has agave in it on the menu. For Paleo people this is fine. Keto, it's not, so being able to see that right away and either have it removed or replaced with a difference sweetener is perfect.
The owner, Sipra is a gem of a woman. She's got a great philosophy on healthy food that she'll share with you if you talk to her. She happily proclaimed that "They're here for you" and that anything we wanted to adjust about a meal, they'd be happy to accommodate.
The ambiance of the place is lovely. They're right on the wharf so you can see the boats come and go. The covered outdoor area has blankets on each table so you can rug up if things get a bit colder and they have stand heater as well.
I have nothing negative to say because there is nothing to say. The prices are right where they should be for the area and the quality. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The chefs are current and former bodybuilding professionals so they care about their craft.
You should go here and eat delicious food. Why are you still here? Run and don't stop until you reach Gainz.
Clean, tasty and healthy food! Both the chocolate tart and teriyaki salmon were incredible!
Fresh vibe and really awesome service
Thanks so much Sipra, we'll definitely be back :D
The menu was really cool. It shows how much protein etc is in each meal which is very helpful if you are on a strict diet. Good breakfast, coffee and an awesome shake
Great service
Great location and views of the ferrys coming and going
Get the pumped up pancakes!! So yummy!
