The queue is long but it's well worth the wait (if you want a shorter queue head to causeway bay, Hong Kong - line is shorter there). Staff are friendly and super polite (thanking almost all customers for coming with ARIGATO ). The fluffiest cheesecake you'll ever taste... def my fav.

I love their cakes! I buy their cakes for birthdays, parties, presents. I come here quite often and it’s very popular with young people and families. I would recommend the original cheesecake over the chocolate flavour . The macaroons and waffles are a bit too sweet for me.

Airy and light. Can get boring when trying to consume an entire piece as it’s all one flavour and one texture so I tend to eat mine with berries in the summer and I think it goes well with the bit of acidity

World famous Cheese cake shop in Queen Street!

My first time trying this place was in Sydney and I personally prefer the little cupcakes as they hold more flavour. But the texture of the cheesecake is pretty unique!

If I want to get a cheesecake without feeling guilty after, Uncle Tetsu’s will always be the first thing on my mind. That fluffy, soft, airy and so delicious cheesecake. I can finish the whole thing just by myself. Haven’t tried their muffins yet but I heard they’re also good.

Highly recommend their new menu item: crepe brûlée! $9.50 for a crepe filled with uncle tetsu cheesecake, brûlée creme, dark choc, whipped cream and jam topped off with a perfect layer of blowtorches sugar. Worth the 15 min wait!

Japanese cheesecake has always been one of my favorite cakes, it’s very different from the traditional cheesecake, it’s got a light and moist texture, similar to a chiffon cake but softer and smoother. Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake has it all! It’s super soft and spongy, especially when you heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds, it really taste like just fresh out of the oven. Their madeleines also very popular, vanilla and matcha flavour available daily, there’s also daily special flavours such as chocolate, honey etc. from Monday to Wednesday.

I have been wanting to try this for quite some time now but every time I pass by their shop in Queen St the queue is enormously long, like the queues you see on a popular theme park ride on a school holiday weekend, queueing is not my thing and its one of the things I love in New Zealand, queueing is not a common sight apart from this one.

Both the cheesecake and angel hat are delicious but I prefer the cheesecake. They are small for its price. Angel hat is suitable for 2 people really, as it’s very airy.
Little store for takeaway only.

Love the cheesecake here, it's fluffy light and giggly. More guilt free compared to the traditional European cheesecake. I also like Uncle's Tetsu Madeline's, they are on the denser and drier side though. The cheesecake is also quite pricy unless you are sharing with people.

Uncle Tetsu makes super spongy and yummy Japanese style cheesecakes fresh from the oven multiple times a day! There used to be a line outside when they first opened and the hype is definitely worth it! They also do madeleines and release limited flavours from time to time including earl grey and green tea.

During Christmas time (pictured) the store stamps the cakes with a cute Santa/Reindeer picture.

Will definitely be buying more cakes from here, highly recommended

Not worth the hype .. but good cheesecake. Its not sweet and quite eggy. You’ll have a warm or cold option.. i went for warm but I should have gone for the COLD option. Coz the cake taste so much better after. When ordering cheesecake, I would like to have a rich cheese/cream taste to it. But this does not. Personally, I would just stick to traditional cheesecakes with crumb base 😂

Well well well, dear jiggly wiggly cake.
You are moist and soft and delicious.
Is it worth the queue when it first opened? I don’t know, the missus lined up for me. So yes it was.
We had the original flavour. Not too sweet, and it was light and fluffy. Dangerous. I could eat almost the whole thing my self.

No centipede line outside these doors - today was a good day (Ice Cube voice) 😂
The price was $20. Bit pricy for a whole cheesecake so I'd expect a bit of love went into making these.
The size was a sensible - '7.5' pizza for one, but the portion was enough to say I ate half of it to myself. 😂😂😂
The taste definitely melts in your mouth like an otto trying to catch candy floss in water. You can definitely taste the cream cheese but the after taste is prompt to please.
I've heard it tastes better where it originates from, so only time will tell when I reach that destination. Until then, I'm quite pleased with the texture of a different cheesecake.
Let's not forget the bag it came in. 😉 Fancy, fancy, fancy. 👍

Psst. I see they do chocolate ones too 😉

We passed by this bakery many times & never had a chance to try the lovely-looking madeleines. Today, after the unpleasant experience at Chancery Bistro, we picked up some buttery vanilla madeleines & a bag of rusk. They were nice, but I was expecting something nicer. Maybe the cheesecake would have made a better choice.

While you might know Uncle Tetsu for its cheesecake but you'll have to give their Madeleines a try! They have a variety of madeleines and the flavours change daily (apart from the traditional vanilla ones). Matcha is the newest (and so far my favourite flavour) but they also have super interesting ones like chocolate, Earl grey and honey! Would love to go back and try them all :)

Finally got the chance to get my hands on the famous cheesecake here!

We arrived around 8pm and luck for us there was no line, ordered a cake and sampled it the next day. I can understand the hype and this is a very light and delicious cheesecake. Typical I am not a fan of cheesecake due to the heaviness but this cheesecake from uncle Tetsu is nice and fluffy! It actually resembles more of a cake that cheesecake.

If you’re a lover of cheesecake you’ll definitely need to try!

I went after the hype had died down and tried the Madeleines first. They are nice but nothing special and not worth price. The cheese cake on the other hand is very good. It feeds 2 comfortably and 3 fair. The cake tastes eggy at first and then a pleasant sweetness comes thru on the palate. Nice texture and consistency will buy again as a treat. The great thing about is that the sweetness is just right and one finishes the cake feeling rather healthy.

Believe in the HYPE!

It’s taken me quite awhile before getting one of the famed Japanese Bake Cheese Cake from Uncle Tetsu, mostly due deterring lines that always seem to pile up when I walk past.

Surpassingly as I was coming back from a meeting in upper queen street I walked past and that there was no line!

Taking the opportunity like how a CR7 in front of goal, I gleamingly walked to the counter and brought a cheese cake whoop whoop!

This is pretty much where the review ends because I left it in my family fridge and when I came back from basketball it was all gone! My cousin who has a sweet tooth and her friends went to town on my cake! To be fair I did say they were allowed a slice. Although my poor self wasn’t able to taste the cake, my cousin was more than happy to give her review of the cake. Full of dairy, creamy beyond belief and so delightful to bite into, when you do you kinda just keep going till there is nothing left. She did do a nice taste test comparing a light microwaved slice vs fresh from the fridge, highlighting that the warmer version is miles better.

Showstopper: Must try at least once if you live in Auckland.

We waited for the line to die down as it was very busy when it just opened. For $20 the original cheesecake didn’t really live up to its hype in my opinion. Even though it was soft, a little fluffy, and freshly baked, the taste didn’t amaze me that much. It has a strong cheesy taste that’s moist and with a little egg white flavor. The price is a bit high for it but it tasted pretty okay overall. The size was pretty small as well for its price.

It was exciting to finally see what the craze is all about. There was quite a line up before we got to the front but it was all worth the wait. We bought the Christmas party special and tried the madeleines first. They tasted pretty average but had quite a crispy crust on the top which was so satisfying. Then we got to the cake!!! It was so moist and delicious. It literally melts in your mouth. Tried it again the next day after it's been in the fridge and it still melts in your mouth. Cheese flavour deepens too. A mix between a cheesecake and sponge cake. The texture is amazing, it is incredibly soft and mellow. Taste wise, it is a bit eggy but still has that creamy cheesecake punch. Not cheap and their madeleines suck, hence only a rating of 3.5 but the cheesecake itself deserves a solid 4/5.

Stopped by to pick up some since I was in town. The line looks quite long but it starts at the door and doesn't go into the shop. If you are just wanting the madeleines then you can head to the front of the queue, but if you were wanting the cheesecake then you have to wait in line.

You pretty much wait in line for freshly baked cheesecake. Once a batch is ready then they sell one cheesecake per person for $19.99.

Cheesecake is interesting but a bit too soft for my liking.

After growing up on NY style baked cheesecake I was anxious to try Uncle Tetsu. The line was very long on my first visit so I had to settle for some Madeline’s. They were very good and made a nice strawberry shortcake type desert for a dinner party I hosted. Easy desert that looked and tasted fancy with some fruit and cream. I made sure I had enough time to wait in line on my second visit. Roughly 12 cheesecakes are produced every 20 minutes. It’s great how you can watch through the window and the staff was super friendly. The cheesecake was worth the wait and was nice both warm fresh and cold the next day. Very light and fluffy and melts in your mouth. Nice alternative to a heavy baked cheesecake.

Got ourself to join all the hype about this place. We were lucky as we only wait for appx 40mins on Saturday morning (we noticed sometimes the waiting time can be forever). And this is the biggest down for us, the waiting time is a bit too long considering we only want to buy one cheesecake (this would probably stop us to come back and queue again).
Flavour wise, both Cheesecake and Madeleine taste good, even better to share with 5-7others people while cake still hot.
Staff was extremely polite. Price might be slightly in high side.

Been following them on facebook and every time I pass through town, there's always a line but the mrs found some time to wait and finally snap one up.

It's nice, not bad at all but that's about it for me. It's smooth, slightly wobbly and not too sweet.
I don't think it was worth the wait though and it didn't blow me away, really could have waited out the hype for this one.

*Updated* - Tried the limited edition earl grey and honey version. It's nice, can't really taste the honey myself. But it comes across more of a cake now even they still call it a cheesecake.

It’s amazing the queues that form outside this new location especially when you see that they really only sell 2 things!
We didn’t think we could be bothered queueing but the 1/2 hour wait went by quickly as you get to watch the staff making the cheesecakes via windows straight into the kitchen.
They sell a kind of friand which is plain in flavour but quite tasty & soft. Also the famous cheesecake which is baked in a water bath & sold when fresh out of the oven & hot. It can be eaten then, but is nicer when chilled.

Had both cheesecake and the Madeleine. I first got the cheesecake after 30 mins in the line, it did not taste as good as I expected. Its super light and fluffy but did not taste nice, and did not worth 20$. Today I lined up for 40 mins and got 5 Madeleine plus 1 free, so it was 18.5$, hoping it could be better than the first try since some friends said Madeleine tastes better than cheesecake. But, again I got disappointed. What I only like is the customer service there where staff are friendly and keep updating customer when the cakes are ready to serve. For those who are curious, share a cheesecake with 2 or 3 more friends to have the idea what is Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake without paying the whole 20$.

I had high hopes for this since all of my friends raved about it in Australia. I thought the cheesecake was okay, it was definitely something different to the usual cheesecakes we have in New Zealand, but still not worth the 1-2hr wait. The madeleine though, is hands down the driest thing I’ve ever eaten and it costed 3.70nzd which was completely not worth it. I heard that they used to be 2.50aud in Aussie and now reduced to 1.20aud along with the ‘buy 4 get 2 free’ combo since nobody is buying those. Hence explained the high price tryna make up for that in NZ lol. I hope Uncle Tetsu NZ will have more flavours soon since there’s only 1 option now. Overall I think the cheese cakes do taste nice and still worth a try, but maybe wait until they’re not as crowded (AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE MADELEINES).

I’m not sure whether it is worth the hype or the long queue, the cheesecake itself is light and airy compared to the traditional ones and the madeleine is nice too. However once you’ve had a bite or two, it becomes a bit boring and you won’t have the “I can’t get enough of it!” sensation you have with other food. A 3.5 for me.

Got to try a small slice for free at a uni club event.
It’s kind of like a moist version of sponge cake; but a little bit creamier. I suppose that’s where the “cheese” part of it comes from.

It’s nice but I wouldn’t pay $20 for it unless I’m splitting between friends; nor will I line up for over an hour for it... overall it’s a nice and lighter alternative for heavy dessert, but only if your pocket can handle it.

The cheesecakes are amazing! They really are worth a try, they jiggle (a plus for me) and they taste almost as good even after being left in the fridge overnight and reheated. Was at their secret opening, queue for more than an hour and I guess it is kind of worth the wait?

It's my first time having Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake. And I also got myself the Madeleine . Cheesecake cost $20 and the Madeleine cost $3.70

Personally. I love the cheesecake and the Madeleine but to me $20 per cake is a bit too pricey for me. So I will probably get it once in awhile.

The cheesecake itself is a little bit fluffy and it's really soft. I really love it. It's like eating air but not hahaha
Whereas the Madeleine is a bit hard but it's still soft to eat.

Highly recommend you guys to try. I love it but I wouldn't eat too often because of the price!

Came here for the exclusive crepe brulee which is only available on Saturday between 12 to 2.30pm. This reminds me of the dessert crepe that I had when I was in Japan. The crepe was soft and not too dry. The cream brulee was very tasty and made perfectly, the little bit of jam adds diversity to flavour and there was a little bit of their classic cheese cake at the bottom of the cake to add texture. Very delicious will definitely be back for this. We also ordered the matcha cheesecake, which in my opinion, the classic original was better, but still tasted good.

Authentic Japanese cheese tarts, love their madeleine too. They have different flavors occasionally, I’ve tried taro and green tea, both are good. But my favourite is still the original one. At $5.5 per cheese tart, the price is very reasonable and aligns with the prices overseas. Their cheese cakes are good too, you can eat them cold or slightly warm them up for a softer (slightly melting) feel.

This shop undoubtedly serves one of the best crepe brulee in all of New Zealand, and I was truly impressed with the quality and the cozy atmosphere it provided. The brulee is a delight to savor, starting with the delectable caramelized sugar crunch on top, followed by the smooth custard and cream. The cream was perfectly creamy, striking the right balance of sweetness. The crepe itself was delicious, and the homemade berry and cherry sauce added a delightful touch without being overly sweet. Each layer of the brulee was a hit for me, and I couldn't find any faults—it was simply perfect. Kudos to the chef for crafting such a remarkable treat. However, it seems the popularity of the crepe brulee is causing some demand challenges. I witnessed people standing in line, and by around 1:45, the brulee had already sold out. It might be worth considering offering it for two days a week instead of just on Saturdays to keep up with the high demand. The only minor inconvenience was the limited seating space, which led to some waiting. Despite my order taking 15 minutes to be delivered, it was absolutely worth it for the exquisite crepe brulee.

Very Asian taste kind of cake. Not too sweet or too oily. The staff is quite nice and the service is really good. Madeleine has a variety of flavours which is decent if you want to have a try. With its convenient location and beyond average taste, no wonder it was popular at the beginning of their business.
