Reasonably priced and good smorgasbord food, yet to try something off the menu. Will definitely keep coming back. Building looks very clean inside.

My friend celebrated her birthday here with a buffet. There are heaps of space upstairs so it's not crowded. I like how there are plenty of food choices and the food are kept hot through the night. Very full of flavour and savoury. Will recommend this to people who loves chinese takeaways
we bought takeaways from the brand spanking new site of the royal horse - a pukekohe instituition for more then 20years! Our selection of chinese goodies were plentiful and well cooked. The vegetables were many and varied and cooked to perfection. We thought it great value for money and they were ready for us quickly also. The only improvement could be with the sweet and sour pork as the pork was alittle dry and chewy, otherwise it was really enjoyed by all AND there were leftovers for lunch the next day!
Where else can you get duck, oysters, Prawns, salmon, squid, dumplings and others all for $29. It's my utmost favourite buffet restaurant. Nice and close to tuakau.
That review was years ago has changed now into a poky little buffet room. Still nice food though but ambience has changed immensely.

Great food and wonderful service.(at the buffet) Everyone was so friendly  I particularly like the fresh salmon prawns and the squid.Plenty of it , nothing too much trouble
I have dined here upstairs at the buffet a couple of times over the last few years, and am still greatly impressed at the quality and decent selection of food.
Everything here from fresh salmon, oyster and sushi, through a range of very nicely cooked pork, fish, beef, chicken duck and vegetable dishes.
The desserts are very simple and few, the highlight here, being the hot sugared deep fried banana balls.
The surrounds are very modern, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful.
If you love buffet, come here - if you don't enjoy buffet, come here - you will change your mind!

UPDATE 02/2018 - Since the review was first posted, the price for dinner has gone up $5 and I have not tried it out yet, so I don't know if it is as good as it used to be. Likely it is the pressure of having to cater to a growing customer base and to discourage waste (a frequent problem for buffet businesses). ORIGINAL REVIEW--> This is for the dinner buffet: For the money, the variety of food is really good. Yes, most is standard takeaway fare, but that isn't a bad thing especially for this price. Still, there is fresh salmon and oysters, in addition to sushi, prawn cocktail, roast duck, honey BBQ pork, fried rice, fried noodles, chicken corn soup, honey BBQ pork ribs (this is a rare item anywhere and it is very tasty), roast pork belly, deep fried squid and scallops, stir-fried mixed seafood, honey pork chops, braised beef steak, fried fish, panfried fish, steamed (I believe) mussels, sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, chicken kebabs, and a lot more, plus decent desserts such as cheesecake, pavlova, fruit salad, jelly, mud cake, ice cream and hot beverages. Not the best in quality (although some items are premium or rare) but not the worst, AND you get amazing variety. Food is usually fresh cooked and replenished quickly, so no complaints - some places take forever to refill but Royal Horse is good in this respect. Service is OK - they take away empty dishes and refill your tea pots, what more do you want? Overall, it is recommended for a good feed at a good price (about $25 per person although steadily increasing slightly each year), just don't expect five-star dining and service, only good to great food and variety.

I always enjoy our meals at the restaurant and have booked it a couple of times for big groups. The service is friendly and the food is very good. It is hard to find places that offer value for money these days and this place is one of them. AWESOME!
I have had both the takeaways and the buffet upstairs from this place and have never been disappointed with either. This is out go to when it comes to Chinese takeaway and they get the food out to you in super good time!
My family of 4 went there for dinner and can not say enough about the quality of the food and the nice clean atmosphere. Highly recommend to all
Never been disappointed, good food, friendly hosts, and having the ability to take a couple of beers or whatever you want to drink is always a top option.
Ate buffet takeaway here after a trackday at Hampton Downs. I had a Chinese friend with me who used to often eat there and said it was a favorite so we stopped in. Found the food very good and was relieved to find it did not have MSG in it.
I'll be stopping in again for sure. I see they've been in business for ages which says a lot.
I've visited this place quite a few times over the last few years as a local resident and can highly recommend the food. You get what you pay for - its a five course buffet and well worth the price - eat as much as you want!
The eating area is more cafe than restaurant and the staff are happy and friendly.

Food was delicious. Very Busy restaurant. If you go for the buffet the food is fresh. Huge variety to choose from. Prices are pretty standard for Chinese. Has a small restaurant where you could fit maybe 20 total people if you are wanting to eat in.
Nice place. Clean and tidy. Food was fresh and very nice however due to egg shortage they don't do egg foo young... which is what I was looking forward too most. The lady on the counter said they haven't done it for 1 year. Please bring back egg foo young 😋
Chinese buffet and takeaway. $40 adult dinner buffet that includes dessert. Buffet area is in entrance foyer with everyone able to fill their takeaway containers or buffet plates as desired.
Many dishes to choose from including battered pork and chicken, steamed veges, egg fu yong, rice and noodle options.
Seating area is separate and can seat approx 40-50 people.
Dessert was brought out afterwards, consisting of vanilla ice cream, cheesecake and banana fritters.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Most expensive Chinese buffet we've had before but the takeaway containers are priced well.
Normally come here on Thursdays. Always satisfied. Heaps to choose from great tasting food. Fantastic Service.

Delicious chinese food. I come over from Waiuku because they do a super succulent crispy chicken. Mmmmmmm.... Makes me hungry thinking about it.
Well priced menu board items and they also have an all you can eat buffet, which doubles as a choose a container size and fill yourself.
Food here is great and served with a smile.

I have been buying Chinese food from the Royal Horse for well over 30 years and the staff I have known for that long as well, great friends of mine. I live in Manurewa at the moment, but when I get the chance to go home to Pukekohe, I always try getting me a smorgasbord they have the best tasting Chinese food ever. Next time your in Pukekohe, bring your appetite and give the Royal Horse a try, Google map them for address and go and enjoy a great feed, my favorite I have enjoyed for years is the squid and deep fried chicken Yum!!. So get on down there.
