Very friendly service, extremely delicious and heart warming food. Would recommend and 100% will be coming back!
The taste reminds me of the dumplings that I had in Shanghai. Although the way they cook is still not the same as in China.
The beef fried dumpling is my favorite.
This is our new go-to place to eat with friends when we're at uni. The soup dumplings are delicious and the broth inside is really tasty. The fried pork buns are really yum too. The place itself is quite small so it can get really crowded during lunchtime but it's fine if we go a little off-peak. The prices are really good for students too and it works out to be quite cheap if we split it between a group. The staff is very friendly too. Overall a great place that I'm glad we found this year!
Been looking for a place in the city to get cheap xiao long bao and came cross this place.
We ordered the traditional steamed buns (xiao long bao) and a mix of the fried juicy dumpling (sheng Jian bao) which comes with pork, vege and prawn/cheese fillings. The xiao long bao was great- super juicy and the broth and filling was delicious.
Sheng Jian Bao was nice- not too crispy that it was hard to bite in to. The pork and vege ones also have the same broth whereas the prawn and cheese one does not have any broth. Pork filling was alright, vege one had an interesting taste- not sure if I like it or not. The prawn and cheese was different but probably wouldn’t order it again as I prefer the traditional pork fillings.
Everything was super affordable, service was decent and it’s a nice cosy little place to get yourself some cheap eats. Would definitely come back again.
A go to every time I don’t take a snack to uni, and it never goes wrong! Love all their dumplings and the amazing flavors! But the fried dumplings are my favorites! Simply amazing
The buns are really nice, the broth in the bun is so delicious. We ordered both steamed pork buns and mixed juicy fried buns, I think they made the best in Auckland. The veggie & pork fried bun is so good, very fresh and juicy. The steamed pork bun taste just like the one in Shanghai. We will definitely go back again, worth the trip to the city.
Yummmm. Be careful when you bite into these dumplings because the soup inside is scalding hot. The pork dumplings are good but the real winner for me were the cheese prawn dumplings. Something new, and something 👌👌. Will be back again to also try the scallion oil noodles.
Nice and clean place with friendly service. The steamed dumplings (Xiaolongbao) were really really good and probably the best I've had in Auckland so far. Highly recommend this place.
Amazing xiao long bao! Fast service and affordable.
I have yet to try their other dumplings, buns and noodles.
Place is small and gets fairly busy so might find it hard to find a seat.
Those juicy fried pork buns are bomb! They are soupy and the pork filling is not skimp. Plus anything fried (or pan fried in this case) makes it so much better. 4 buns is not quite a decent lunch (if you're super hungry). I also had the scallion noodles - portion was good and I could taste the spring onion infused in the oil but other than that not much dimension to this... Remember to ask for chilli oil - I totally forgot. Came during the lunch rush - heaps of people waiting for takeaway orders. There was a quick turn around with those eating in so shouldn't have to wait long for a table. I waited for 5-10mins for my order. Serving staff are nice. Will def return to try other items on the menu and get more of those pork buns!
Fantastic selection of fried buns, dumplings and noodle soups. We tried the tasting platter with featured their classic pork buns, pork & veges as well as the exotic prawn and cheese buns! They were all super crispy and had juice that burst in your mouth with every bite! They're quite busy at lunch but the wait for food isn't very long!
The juicy pan fried port buns are very impressive. The juice is VERY hot so please be careful and eat with caution. Beef curry soup is OK. The soup is salty but it's also overwhelmed with a strong sweetness from the dried shallot, which tasted a bit strange at the end. Will try the noodles next time they look so yummy.

The food was tasty, must try the Juicy Fried Buns (Sheng Jian Bao) I have tried all 3 flavours of buns, all of them were really juicy and yummy. Just watch out when you eat as the juice may burst out. The cheese flavour was surprisingly good.
Price was a bit higher than normal, but worth a try.
Good food, but the waiting time was too long. Original pan fried pork bun was highly recommended, while the prawn&cheese bun tasted strange to me. Nice breakfast and lunch choice in city.
One of the best sheng jian in Auckland! Went before work today just like I would in Shanghai. They fry it properly with the seam side down which alot of restaurants don't do here. It makes an extra crunchy base. They also use the proper dough, which is half-risen dough not bao dough which is too fluffy. Great overall :) and the filling is nice and savoury and plenty of soup filling without the filling feeling too fatty.
When I saw this place getting renovated a couple of weeks ago I’ve been just counting down the days to try out the fried buns because 1) they have the audacity to name the restaurant after the BEST fried buns chain in Shanghai, and 2) there are just no good Shanghai style fried buns in Auckland.
生煎包 (pork fried buns)- the bun is fried upside down just like the XYSJ in Shanghai (they are not related btw), the skin is thin as it should be and the bun is full of delicious porky soup which I was sooo happy about (all the other fried buns I’ve tried in Auckland is dry and the skin is way too thick) and generous amount of pork mince mixture. Honestly you gotta try this 10/10 you’d be coming back for more
小笼包 (soup dumplings) - very thin skin, boiling hot soup, perfect meat/soup/skin ratio, authentic and would defs get again 10/10 (I rate this as well as the taste in memory XLB)
葱油拌面 (scallion oil noodles) - not a fan of this, noodles underdone, way too much peanut oil (it is literally dripping in oil) and could do with some fresh scallions on top to cut through the oiliness 6/10
The space is small and jammed pack full of people for lunch but they are pumping out the food freshly made. This place, although not quite to the same level as XYSJ in Shanghai, is very close to it and will keep my belly satisfied!! 10/10 would recommend
Well
I can give this one a 5 stars because of it's in the city.
Apparently Aucklanders are aware that good Chinese foods don't happen there.
Little Yum is not bad actually in terms of making Shanghai style. Although it's still a bit distance from the one I love in Epsom.
I enjoy Wanton soup, crispy fried buns
If you live in the city or you are in the city looking for something to eat but don't want to cost too much, Little Yum is your good friend.
Very friendly, food was fast but delicious. Only improvement I would recommend is using a higher quality servite at the tables. The cheap boxes of tissues just rip too easily and stick to your face. Otherwise great place to have lunch.
I love this little dumpling shop. So far I've tried the beef grilled dumplings and the vege dumplings, they were amazing. Definitely will make that one of my regular places
amazing! just like back in Shanghai, especially 生煎包
Been craving for xiao long bao ever since coming to live here in Auckland. Thank God a friend recommended this place. Love the fried dumplings as well🤤

Truely One of the best in the city. Excellent little, casual pop-in cafe’. Serving noodle soups & steamed + fried buns & dumplings, also good vegetarian options. Truly authentic flavour, friendly service, affordable price. We hunt for the best flavours - Shanghai Little Yum is the real deal.
The soup dumplings are really tasty and juicy. You can tell that they are made with fresh quality pork, better than similar stores for the same price. Nice topping of scallions and sesame seeds. They stayed crunchy in the takeaway box until I got home. Only comment was that one of my dumpling had a hole in the bottom so all the soup had gone.
I ordered their soup dumplings and pan fried soup dumplings; both types of dumplings were really juicy and the pan fried ones were perfect! The server was very kind to take my order and allowed me to eat in just around closing time. Thank you for your excellent service 😊
Pretty decent soup dumplings (I had the juicy bun and Xiao long bao) but lacking in flavour. Probably more of a 3 star. Not bad prices. Soupy and great skins
Nice little place for dumplings and buns.Very authentic and rich flavour. Pork noodles were delicious as well!
