Great ramen and yakisoba.
Delicious ramen in Newmarket. Haven't disappointed before. I would definitely recommend for anyone who is keen for some ramen.
I have been a die hard patron to the city branch of Ichiban. The New Market branch is way closer to me and surprised it took me this long to give it ago. Part of me was concerned it wouldn't be as good as the city but it is. Oh my it is. I have eaten countless bowls of ramen and this is in the top 2 I've ever eaten. The Ichiban Special Ramen is good. Ridiculously good. Topped with melt in the mouth charchu and you can't go wrong. The gyoza and karage are also top notch.
My friends had the Buta Don and Omlette curry rice and couldn't fault it
Their lunch deal of Chashu Ramen 🍜with Mini Curry on Rice🍛 was only $12, and their most popular dish Jigoku Chashu Ramen was 10/10👍🏻. I got the hot 🌶️option which was perfect spicy level personally. Their Takoyaki🍡 and Gyoza 🥟were pretty good not as impressive as their ramen tho. But this warm meal 🌡️was so perfect for a rainy day🥶. Not gonna lie suddenly loving ramen lately is making me feel happier about the coming winter❄️.
Went for stamina ramen this time. Added egg and chasu. The new market store is almost as good as the cbd one. More seating in a less oit of the way part of town.
Takoyaki was good but the squid was amazing.

Got the spicy ichiban Chasu ramen, stamina ramen, gyoza and katsu don rice bowl. The sourness of the spicy ramen overpowered the dish and didn’t compliment the delicate pork slices. The stamina ramen had a thick flavorful broth, definitely one of the best bowls I’ve had in Auckland. The gyoza was standard like any other and the katsu don with egg and meat were very bland, kind of wish they had sauces over the top. Definitely opt for boiled eggs In the ramen, a worthwhile upgrade!

Great place. Have been here a number of times. Great Udon or Don, whatever you prefer with good lunch specials. Food comes out relatively quickly. Definitely recommend this place.
Staff greeted us as soon as we walked into the restaurant, service was top notch! I ordered the Ichiban Chashu Ramen and it was so delicious, a little bit salty but a lot of flavoring. Good portion, quite fulfilling and prices not expensive. Good environment, clean and tidy, would definitely return!
Everything is average. Food, staff, and eating environment are fine. A good choice to have lunch here. Menu is a little bit from the city one.
Been here a few times with different people, always the same delicious ramen soup! I’ve tried their don and curry, pretty standard, but otherwise good portion sizes and reasonably priced. I like the decor and seating for a ramen noodle restaurant.
Me and my friends decided to try this place tonight for dinner. Went in around peak dinner time and opted to sit outdoors as there was 6 of us (inside looked a bit small for larger groups) I ordered their popular Ichiban chasu ramen (medium spicy) and it was served quite quickly. The flavour of the soup was rich and the chasu here was a decent amount! Overall really enjoyed the ramen and would want to come back another time to try other dishes!
Only thing that could be improved is for the waitress to provide us all with tissues/napkins, but that’s no big issue considering we were sitting outside)

Best ramen shop I've been to so far. Ramen taste fresh and delicious. Their broth tastes delicious. I recommend adding butter to your ramen for that extra boost in flavor.

Never had ramen 🍜 so I have nothing to compare it to but...... This ramen was good. Bouncy noddles, great ( probably msg ) broth, great toppings (corn, bean sprouts, chashu, ginger) But wasn’t really full on one bowl of ramen.
Unlucky for us, we missed out of the lunch specials, but if you want to try a little bit of ramen, curry or sushi, would recommend the lunch specials which is only on weekdays 1130am-2pm.
Would come back for a bowl of ramen!

The restaurant is small but cosy and adds to the Japanese atmosphere of the restaurant. Everything is very clean and orderly with a bar seats where you can watch the chefs prepare your meal. I had a wonderful dinner here with friends. The ramen had delicious flavoursome broth while side dishes were wonderfully prepared. The portions were large at great prices. This is a hidden gem which you could easily pass by if you don’t pay attention. If I ever want good tasting ramen in Newmarket then this is the place to go.
Came here for lunch and had the Buta Don from their $12 Lunch Menu which also cane with a Miso Soup.
For $12 it was really nice and I got heaps of meat!

Tried to find a place for dinner at 9:30pm but realised most places close at 10pm🙈 fortunately ichiban closes at 11pm on Friday night so we just marched into this restaurant.
I ordered tonkotsu chashu ramen and it was really nice! The broth was not too salty and the noodles were chewy. There were 4 pieces (?) of chashu (pork) and they were very tender. But the radish on top wasn’t my cup of tea😂

The service is very fast and friendly, the food is flavorful and you can sit at the bar seating to watch the chefs cook. The price is reasonable (both dishes were about $17). Overall it was a pleasant experience

For those who loves Japanese Ramen ... TRY this place 📍
Went there for quick lunch, it was crowded. Service was fast and efficient. I ordered teriyaki chicken ramen. Lots of meet and nice ramen, broth was tasty. Will definitely return again.
We came on a Thursday night at around 7:30, there were only a couple other tables occupied. The interior is clean and cosy - the chairs are all stools, which has a charm I suppose. There are condiments like soy sauce, hot oil, chilli pepper etc. on each table.
We both ordered the tonkotsu ramen. The food came out within 5 minutes or so and we a little surprised with the portion size. The amount of broth basically drowned the noodles and there was a pretty sad amount of bean sprouts or corn and very small piece of pork. I guess we were rather disappointed; the picture on the menu was a bit misleading. Aside from that, the ramen was delicious. Broth was flavourful and and pork was very tender.
All in all, delicious meal, friendly and quick service, more expensive for what you get compared to other ramen shops, small portion size and limited toppings.

The place is really small tho! And tables are small too. Gets really hot when it’s busy as it has an open kitchen.
I didn’t manage to take pictures as we were all very hungry that particular day. We bought for pick up and food was all still warm when we got home. The soup bases were all so addictive and had just the right amount of noodles.
Came here for lunch and it didn't disappoint. This place reminds me a lot of the late night ramen places in Japan. I ordered the spicy pork ramen, with added egg and bamboo shoots. I also ordered a side of edamame and kimchi. This is probably the best ramen I've found in Auckland so far. The setup and menu is very much like what I found in Japan. The service is great and the food came out quickly. I saw some of the other negative reviews and see they are from westerners who seem to mistake Chinese noodles type of flavour with Japanese style. I will definitely come back to enjoy this in winter!
It’s a hard to miss restaurant, located on Khyber Pass Rd. I’ve been craving ramen for weeks so decided to visit Ichiban (sadly had to settle for stir fried noodles - due to the lack of vegetarian options). I loved the flavour of the noodles and my friend enjoyed his ramen as well! The portions are decent and the prices are reasonable.

Stopped by for lunch since we had just heard that it recently opened.
Came in and was greeted after walking in for a bit but the dining area isn't the biggest but it does have a few tables that fit 4 people and a few more with 3. There was also a bar that could accommodate a few more.
The menu isn't too big, it mostly consisted of ramen or katsu. There were a few options to pick from though. Most of the items were within the $12 and $15 range which is good for New Market.
We ordered a ramen each and shared a gyoza and katsu between us. The ramen broth was ok. I thought that the flavour was a bit too subtle for my liking, being overpowered by the sesame seeds in the broth. The gyoza was a bit too chivey that it almost tasted like a dumpling from Yum Cha. The Katsu was crispy but the edges were slightly burnt so it was a bit bitter. The food was still tasty and I would come back to try one of their katsu curry.
Service and food was really good considering they've been open for less than a month.
New to downtown Newmarket and now taken over a former pizza store. Came here for lunch and can't believe already has 20 reviews when they only open a couple months, then again they are at a prime site, a stones throw from other popular diners such as Seleras, Sun World etc.
Had the Chashu don which is a rice bowl with roasted pork with 3 slices of pork and love how they diced the rest of meat for that quick start. Not as rich as the Cantonese BBQ char siu pork which is more rich/red
Japanese dishes are smaller so don't be offended if not worth the money as they're not big bone eaters like some of us.
Came here for a Monday lunch and the place was packed so could barely even get a table but there also isn't a huge amount of seating due to the size of the place.
Ordered Ramen and a Katsu Chicken Curry which came out pretty quickly considering how busy they were. The curry was really nice and of a good quantity which I would get again. The ramen however was really spicy so we could barely even eat it. We did order hot so that's on us, but considering there are two more levels of hotness above that we thought it was a bit much. The ingredients in the ramen (noodles, pork, veggies) also had no actual flavour of their own, just the spiciness of the broth. We were also charged extra for takeaway containers which we were only told about when paying.
You can see the chefs cooking as seating includes barstools around the kitchen where they are working which is nice.
Staff were friendly and service was really good.
Pricing is average for the area, about $16 per dish.
Ambience is simple and basic but clean and tidy. We ordered a Tonkatsu chasu ramen and an Ichiban chasu ramen. I have asked for mild spiciness for the latter. The texture of the noodle is nice, a fraction softer than the noodle from ramen do and tanpopo but still nice. The broth for the Tonkatsu chasu ramen (first photo) was very light and flavoursome. I could taste the natural sweetness from boiled pork bones. The broth from the Ichiban chasu ramen (second photo) was ok. I thought it could do with a heavier seasoning but perhaps that was because I asked for mild spiciness. My advice is go for at least medium spicy. That will boost the flavour. The chef was reasonably generous with the meat compared to other ramen outlets in Auckland.
Really decent ramen place would reckonmend. Quick and professional service. The ramen was not overly oily and delivered what was promised. One of the best ramen places in auckland at the moment.
We both ordered ramen (ichiban cha shu & tonkotsu) as it’s what they are famous for. The noodle were nicely cooked not too soft and broth was good. The portion is smaller compare to other ramen joint and service was okay.
Would love to try other items next time.
I love here! I love spicy and tasty ramen! U can choose how spicy level of the ramen. The slices of roasted pork in ramen is soft. Staff are very nice and we had a good experience.
Loved their broth, meat and noodles. The broth was flavourful and had strong chashu taste. Their chashu was deliciously tender and in generous amounts also. The noodles were not doughy rather, very chewy and tasted very good with the broth. Loved everything they had to offer and highly recommend! Will become frequent customers :)
