Very old-style simple decor with short list of menu. The fried rice noodles we ordered did surprise me a lot. The soul of this dish is the little crispy cubes, fried lard, which makes it absolutely impossibly tasty. It's kind of traditional and nostalgic taste. Make sure order the one with fried fat if you can!
Note: They only accept cash. No eftpos.
Best mixed noodles (variant of Kuwey Tiaw) in AkL. Authentic street food complete with crispy pork nuggets! Full on flavours! Bring cash! Lady owner very friendly. Have been here a few times and they never fail.
Reading the reviews, I could understand people would give this Malaysian hot spot a miss. My visit however was rather pleasant. The owners weren’t a problem like others have suggest, I was greeted and once I placed my order I was offered tea.
I got the Char Geuo Teow, and it lived exactly up to its reputation. Authentic Hawker style noodles. You could taste the smoked crispness of the pork fat, the noodles were a little oily but that’s what you would expect in the Hawker stalls. There was plenty of meat which helped.
In my opinion this is a must for those that reminiscence the Hawker flavor and for those wanting an authentic flavor without traveling 5-6 hours by plane.
Showstopper: Authentic Hawker food.
Overall Grade: A-
Hands down the best chow kuey teow (fried rice noodle) in Auckland! However, I would recommend dine-in as the noodles taste better fresh from their kitchen. I tried takeaway and it wasn't as nice.
Heard about this place for ages but never knew where it was till recently! Hands down one of the best char kuey teow. This is actually the real deal Auckland cheap eat right here!
Don’t know why I have read review of people saying they are rude. I was treated with a smile when ever I go! Only down side is cash only.
I've been here for many times, fried rice noodle is always my favorites, fried noodle, wan tan hor, fried rice are also yummy. but from my knowledge they do not accept debit card. you must pay in cash. the food is very nice but excessive oil.
honestly, this is a hidden gem for authentic malaysian street foods. very good price, very yummy foods. my favorite is the char kway tiao, wa tan hor, and the bbq pork fried rice. i have been to many malaysian restaurants, i can't find anyone that could rival their char kway tiao. i have been coming here since 1996 and i wont stop. the only thing that stopping me to give them a full 5-stars review is like what everyone else said, the attitude of the male owner / chef. he is very moody and easily got wound up. the female owner is always nice to me. so there you go. if you want a cheap authentic yummy malaysian foods, THIS IS THE PLACE... BUT do not expect 5-stars service.
I’ll always order the chicken curry laksa and fried noodles and they are gooood. I don’t mind the unfriendly service as long as the food tastes like home, but the cash only payment is a little discouraging to go there ☹️
The best kwetiaw so far and salty fish fried rice so far... No one can't beat it.. Go Ncek!!! Good service so far no complaints at all!!! Love the food so much...
Love the food. Pretty authentic Malaysia street food. You are not allow to share one big dish for two people. The lady at the counter wasn't really friendly.
Yet the food and chefs deserve for a chance of return.
*cash only
During my Malaysian restaurant tour in Auckland, I found a good one today worth writing. This place is specialised for authentic Malaysian style (more like Hokkien style) fried noodle. As soon as walked into the place, Chef's (owner) charisma was good enough to give me an impression he is a master of fried noodles. Convenient to park as well.
*This rating is only for FOOD.
Seriously, go there for the food only. Hands down best Egg Gravy Noodles in Auckland (as far as we know of). Char Koay Teow, Hokkien Mee and Fried Vermicelli are really delicious too.
BIG FAT BUT - The word 'service' doesn't quite exist at this eatery. So, please don't have any expectations at all. Thus, I'm not giving any rating on service.
P/S: Only cash will be accepted
Always my choice when im craving for char kwe tiao or salty fish chicken fried rice..you wont find anything better than this place..service? I dong really care as its super cheap and food was really nice..once you get used to know the owner, they are good..
This place serves the best fried rice noodle in Auckland. The place is run down, they dont accept eftpos, and the owners are not known for their friendliness. But if you want authentic and tasteful malaysian food, this is the place to go.
Authentic Malaysian food at this little basic eatery! Stand out dishes are the smokey, spicy char kway teow and the combination fried rice that tastes out of this world! I think they must fry their rice in delicious pork fat, they also scatter little crispy, crunchy bits of pork crackle through it.
I've never dined in but have always phoned in to make an order. Food is always ready in 10mins. Service is efficient.
Cost of each of these meals is approx $9 and portion sizes are medium. I can normally polish off a whole dish myself and still want to eat another half portion! So meals are probably medium sized, I'm just a greedy guts!
It would pay to phone to check they're open before popping down to the eatery. Take cash, they're no eftpos facilities.
They put the char in char keuy teow. Great smokey tasting fried noodles - as they should be. The most authentic Malaysian noodles I can find in Auckland. The wat tan hor and hokkien mee is also good. They increased prices not too long ago. Serving sizes are not bad for $9.50 but won't fill you up; however two dishes is far too much for one sitting. Atmosphere and service may leave a bit to be desired but the food is well worth it. Note: you can upsize the amount of noodles for $2 per dish. A must try is the salted fish and chicken fried rice. I'm not even a fan of rice but this dish is crave-worthy. Malaysia Noodle & Rice House remains as my favourite M'sian fried noodle place in Auckland.

The food is absolutely stunning here, probably the best char kway Teow in auckland despite there is no service at all.
I always like fired rice noodles with combination meats. It has crunchy deep fried pig fat which you seldom see people using in here, Its very direct and flavors's properly the best out of all Malaysian restaurants in Auckland. another thing is not very good is they never really open the restaurant on time, went there few times and its closed while it says "open" so be sure to call before you go.

4.0 purely for how great and authentic the food is. One of a kind, so authentic it takes you back to Malaysia! Service is non existent though as it is a self service takeaway. Most restaurants you go to, the customer is king. Here though, he makes the food according to his taste and will not alter it for you. You either get medium or extra hot. He will not make it in between, more or less. You can't say no this no that. You get the food as he makes it. So if you are a vegetarian, this is a no go. It is actually a good thing as this controls and maintains the authenticity of the dishes.
Probably is the best char kwe tiaw and salty fish chicken fried rice in auckland! Both with super crunchy and crispy pork fat. Delicious!!!!
They can make it super hot (and yet very yummy) - sometimes when food is too hot they lost the taste and you can only feel the heat. Not this one! They taste very delicious as well.
just how I love it! Makes me drooling just by thinking about it..
Small takeaway shop, with a few tables. Staff are lovely and the Fried Kuey Teow is fantastic. Now addicted to the firey fried noodles, with the divine little pork bits in it. Just what we needed for a cold winters day. Very reasonably priced, just remember to take cash as no eftpos was available. We're now regular diners and letting others know about this place.
The shop is small, but with very friendly service.
The food was prepared fresh, tasted so good.
I like the Fried Kuey Teow, and my wife's favourite is Wat Dan Hor. She just can't have enough of it. Always asking me to drive by to get take away for her.
The pricing is so good that I don't even usually look at the price before ordering. It is that reasonable. The shop owner is very chatty and witty, when he is not busy making foods.
Highly recommended!!!!
This place is very straightforward. Don't expect service or ambience; it's basically a quick and very very tasty value for money meal and that's it.
I find the fried rice noodles (char kway teow) the tastiest in Auckland so far. For only $9 it's a hearty plate of very delicious and smoky rice noodles, with generous bits of pork lards!
It's self service here and they have no EFTPOS machine so you have to bring cash. The aunty who serves by the counter can be grumpy at times too! But I keep coming back because it's back to what it is; tasty hawker style meal. The kway teow tastes like the one back in Malaysia as the uncle who cooks it is authentically Malaysian.
Best char kuey tiaw in NZ! A truly hidden gem. Must try!
Have been to this place many times dining in. But in this particular occasion no dinning in because of the Covit situation. So just takeaway. The taste of the food was consistently good but the portion was small but the prices were still very cheap. If you are a big eater maybe two portion can only satisfy you. However there is one thing you need to take note. No credit card and Eftpos. Payment is strictly physical cash.
People!
If you are not the person who really cares about dinning area.
If you are not the person who asks for great hospitality and customer service.
If you focus on great foods only, here is the place for you definitely!
These old couples they really know how to work the wok! Amazing cooking skills the husband has bringing you the authentic Malaysian Chinese street vendor foods.
They are just so beautiful and nicely done.
Warm you, sometimes you will have to wait for more than 30 mins to see your food coming because they are too busy.
Besides, cash only.
This place is a hidden gem. Was skeptical at first but never judge a book by its cover. Went in for a little noisy. Place does not have eftpos so remember to bring cash. Food is crisp on point. The pork rinds they fry amongst there noodles is Magic. Quick fast service. Loves coming here hungry and hungover. One of my favorite cure places
The food is awesome..the taste bring me back home! But the portion size is miserably small..ridiculously small!!! Cant fill up my little tummy. So not value for money in my own opinion. Hopefully the owner can take the feedback and improve on the portion size.
One of the best char kway teow in Auckland. Space is limited.
Senior couple team. Wok flavour as he fry each single order @ a time, hence each order gets its appropriate ingredients/sauces & cooking attention. Chef is undaunted by orders & passionately cooks every order. Allow serving time unless call in order earlier. 4 table sitting 4 guest & 2 table for 2. 30min parking in front or unlimited around corner street parking.
I tried their Char Koy Teow today and it was one of the best in Auckland. The dish so nice I still grant 5 stars though they only accept cash.
TL; DR
Come here for:
Amazing char kway teow
The fish ball soup with rice vermicelli noodles
Remember to:
Bring cash - no eftpos here
Simple set up - you get your own cutlery, chilli, soy sauce, the works, from a cabinet. It is as much self service although they do have table service in the sense that they bring the food to your table.

We came here just by chance. The missus was wanting a Malaysian breakfast and this was the closest place on the map as we were hanging out at the Avondale Farmers Market just half an hour before.
This restaurant is reminiscent of Malaysian coffee shops or better known as kopitiam. A cheap and simple setup with a large open plan space where the kitchen occupies about 80 percent of the space of the restaurant itself. The elderly gentleman does the cooking and his wife (presumably) does the serving and mans the cash register. This place is old-school - does not take eftpos - so do prepare some cash in hand if you are wanting to go there.
The menu is written by hand on a large green chalkboard above the counter so do take your time going through it.
We ordered three dishes - fish ball soup with rice vermicelli, salted fish and chicken fried rice, and the most telling of Malaysian dishes, char kway teow (or sometimes spelled chow kuo tiaw in Mandarin). Drinks wise, the missus ordered an iced coffee and I ordered a hot milk tea.
According to the missus who sat facing the counter and could see what was going on behind it, the drinks are made from premixed powdered drink packets. I felt slightly cheated but it tasted authentic enough that I let it go. That said, you could easily go to any Asian grocery store and get a large package of the powdered drink sachets for 3 times the cost of the drink prices here. I was not fussed that morning, obviously.
Ranking the dishes in terms of what finished the fastest, first place goes to the fish ball soup with rice vermicelli. Second goes to the char kway teow, and last place goes to the salted fish and chicken fried rice.
The broth of the fish ball soup reminded me of a noodle dish that we used to have in my hometown where if we requested for a "light broth" noodles, we would be served egg noodles with this exact broth. Light, slightly salty, but incredibly refreshing, even the missus was surprised that I was drinking the soup (I am not known as a soup drinker.) With a few slices of bok choy and commercial made fish balls, it made for a very satisfying first dish that we shared.
Char kway teow is usually my go to for authentic Malaysian food. And this place aces it. With charcoal underneath the wok, the noodles are salty and full of "wok hei" - the crispy, slightly burnt taste that comes from a freakishly hot wok. Fried with eggs, bean sprouts, chicken strips, chinese chorizo sausages (called lap cheong), and surprising amounts of crispy pork lard rinds scattered liberally throughout, it is now without a doubt, the BEST char kway teow in Auckland, hands down. They will ask for levels of spiciness - go for extra spicy if you feel like a challenge.
The salted fish and chicken fried rice, unfortunately, was a tad of a let down. Not having enough salted fish taste or chicken in the dish, even the addition of the crispy pork lard rinds was not enough to save the dish. It was good, but I would not order it again next time.
It is located randomly in Wolverton Park in Avondale - a bit of a trip to some, but one well worth it if you know what you are hankering for.

Laksa was great. But the Char Kuey Teow IS FIRE. Cash only, but I sent my partner to the ATM down the road so we could get this amazing food. You can tell it's real when your partner makes you walk 1.5km to get the business.
As I Malaysian I highly recommend this place. Cheap, delicious and almost tastes like home!
Ordered the char kway teow, taste is closest to what I get at home (Singapore). Wok hey ++++. Only place that I’ve tried in Auckland that fries their CKT with pork lard. Have tried other Malaysian restaurants before and none of them comes as close to this! Prepare some cash as they don’t take eftpos!
I had beef fried noodle, it was very nice, one of the better ones around. I thought the price was good, enough for one. The only down side is cash only but I will be back.
Best Char Keow Teow. Cash Only. everything else is superficial.
Great price, great taste and fair portion. Small restaurant so you might need to wait but it’s worth it 😃
