Been coming to Browne street for nearly a year now and whenever I’m here for brunch I always get ‘the huntsman’ big breakfast. In my opinion this is the best brunch in Auckland hands down. The baked beans are the best I’ve ever had, plus the stuffed mushrooms and hash brown are both absolutely delicious, along with the rest of the food on the plate. Took my partner here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and he absolutely loved it. The service here is always top notch, the staff are all super friendly, couldn’t recommend this place more!
Went for Breakfast. GARETH recommended the mushrooms, superb choice, great Saturday morning vibe & low audible chilled sounds. Fantastic place. If anyone can get Avondale on the map as a go to it'll be Browne St. Kudos to all their attentive, knowledgable & friendly staff.
Have started grabbing my morning coffees here and all i can say is their amazing. Browne street makes the best vanilla lattes and always have the friendliest service. The ambience is very cute and simple and has quite the bit of spacing. Definitely recommend x
Its a great addition to Avondale. Been there few times and always had great service and food.
We came by for an after work birthday party. There were quite a few places to park nearby and the place is fairly well sized. We had the inner area by the doors. There was also the outside seating area as well as the rear dining area.
They have a nice selection of drinks as well as food. We only had things to nibble on but the menu does look quite nice and the nibbles like the jalapeno poppers were tasty. Nice cafe on Rosebank road close to the Avondale center.
Very new and clean establishment. Aesthetically pleasing. Staff welcoming. Indoor(booths) and outdoor seating available (bar stools/tables) Not a menu i'm used but worth trying. I recommend the Wedges, they were delicious. Also enjoyed the Wood Fired Turkish Bread. I tasted but wasn't too keen on the Stuffed Mushrooms and Confit Pork Belly. Would love to check out the brunch menu here sometime.
The lamb cutlets were absolutely delicious; The Paradella was lovely and the wine great. (Not too overpriced for the quality). My one little criticism was having to go out of your way to get a drink as waiters/waitresses not good at anticipating your needs. The staff were however lovely and the ambience nice.
Great place, nice coffee, although I found the noice level (music) was a little inappropriate for the time of the day, more suitable for the evening.
Awesome eggs Benny. There is a vibe and a groove to this place that just makes it Morish. The staff are rocking, the coffee amps, the food was really special. Mushrooms we're mouth watering !
Absolutely quality. Great beers on tap, food is quality. Highly recommend the chicken wings & jalapeño poppers along side the beers. Atmosphere, vibe & staff are quality. Great awesome bistro in Avondale
Popped in for breakfast at Browne St. I Enjoyed the prompt and friendly service here and also liked the cleanliness and atmosphere of the place. I ordered the eggs Benedict and found it nice However, the portion size was small for the price point, so I was a bit disappointed there. The eggs themselves were a little bit flavourless but it wasn’t much of a worry. Partner ordered eggs Benedict with bacon & all was cooked nicely. Hot chocolate and iced coffee tasted great aswell
Been here a number of times now. Food always delicious. Can become quite noisy when busy but definitely worth the visit. Wait staff are friendly and officiant.
My husband and I went for a quiet evening meal, escaping the kids for the night. Overall it was good, not outstanding, but great to have the option of a nice meal out over fried chicken in Avondale!! Have to say though, that I was a bit miffed when my steak came out already chopped up. It went cold quickly and wasn't cooked enough (I'd asked for medium rare, but it was rare...), and I wondered why they gave me a steak knife if they'd already done the honours. Really would have preferred it in one piece. Hubby enjoyed his meal though, and overall it was a good night with efficient service. Would perhaps try brunch next time.
In recent years, we’ve seen an explosion in variability of the food offerings available — from the creative fusion flavours of Simon & Lee, to plant-based cafes like The Butchers’ Son and pop up sandwich fare like Hare & Turtle. 2018 heralds the rise of the all-day eatery, where diners are offered a broad range of experiences depending on what you feel like on the day and to the hour (because why restrict hollandaise sauce to 8am?) Gone are the days where Denny’s and Maccas were the only choice for eats with your mates at 11pm - now Avondale’s Browne Street eatery is the place to be. Marvel at the modern industrial fit-out featuring white walls, exposed copper pipes and black aluminium train tracks tracing lines in the ceiling. Locally-blown lightbulbs pair well with the circular artwork on the walls. A couple of huskies observed the lack of sound-proofing in the heavily-concreted space so it’s a bit loud, the only upshot being others can’t eavesdrop on your heart-to-heart. We were enamoured by the exciting and inviting menu — Ham Hock and Parmesan-Crusted Eggs on Toast and Maple Walnut Panna Cotta French Toast. We couldn’t sample it all but don’t go changing - we’re coming back for you.

Bumped into guys from here one night during the week and they mentioned they used to own another place which did fried chicken with their eggs Benedict and as I’m a fan and working my way through Aucklands egg Benedict’s thought would head a long and give it a go, long story short ... eggs Benedict with fried chicken , I’m a fan :) goes really wel together and probably better than bacon , sorry pigs the fowl beat you today. The rest of it ... food was good , service was good and quickly shown to a table when walked in and a real hive of activity with plenty of staff, also had a cake which sounded interesting and was really good , lemon polenta and rosemary :) would do that again , had taken a bite out before photo taken oops , would I go back again ? Yes I would for sure :)
I had a last minute dinner here with a friend on Saturday. Although small, the wine list is great and likewise with the menu. We both ordered the lamb with potato and goats cheese croquettes - amazing! Generous portions but not over the top in size, presented really nicely. I am looking forward to trying them for brunch!
Great service, awesome atmosphere, good food and coffee. Had breakfast ham hock and baguette. Great to have a quality place like this in Avondale.
Hosted our work Christmas Dinner at Browne St. on Friday night with their Christmas set menu, rave reviews from all of our staff and many have said they will be going back soon.
Very tasty food all with a little twist, the Scotch Fillet with mash and veg was the winner on the day (& the duck leg, too hard to choose one!)
Set menu was really good value and the big boss was very pleased with the night.
Management staff at Browne St. were very accommodating and helped to make the night suit what we needed. Thanks again!
We needed a change of scenery – and after hearing so much about Browne St, decided to head out west ourselves and check it out over a late breakfast. Parking on the street was surprisingly easy, considering how busy it was inside – good level of noise, vibrant atmosphere and the living wall added to the really nice mood.
Flat white was perfect – smooth, creamy, not too hot and looked great. Her ham hock on toast was a generous portion, very tasty and parmesan crumbed eggs were cooked just right. So were my eggs bene, to which I added mushrooms. Sensational!! We’ll definitely be back to work through the rest of the menu.
With my new neighborhood being Avondale, it was about time that I sampled one of their newest additions the Brown Street (BST). In terms of the lay out, BST is open, clean and has managed to fuse your typical bar feel with your local café. It’s relaxing and welcoming, and coming on a Sunday brunch, I wasn’t surprised at busy BST is. From families, dates, catch-ups, BST Is able accommodate for all.
Coming in by myself to do some writing, I ordered the Green Grocers smoothie which was packed with veges and other green stuff to help me feel better from last evenings gluttonous meal. What was also enjoyable was the fact that the smoothie didn’t taste overly sweet and with the sweetness coming from the actual smoothie ingredients.
For my meal, I ordered the Hock Ham with Parmesan Eggs, I’m not usually the biggest fan of ham because of how salty ham is. To my surprise the Hock Ham served had a nice faint sweetness which combined superbly with the smokiness, the Parmesan poached egg was delightful.
I love cross functional kitchens because it just means that everyone is able to cover for each other and usually this would mean an efficient and effective kitchen. It was awesome to see the waitress step back and help with the barristers and kitchen stuff. Great site to see.
Showstopper: Real authentic smoothies and a great brunch spot in Avondale.
Overall Grade: -A
We came here on a Sunday mid morning for breakfast...busy place.. love the menu selection not complicated We got a table right at the front nice view of what was going on... no one offered us water... then after our coffee before our breakfast they noticed.
Being new they had new young staff still need training.. we noticed confusion at the food service bar then we noticed another table that came after us got their breakfast before us so I asked about that and she said there has been some confusion with our order sorry about that so it’ll be awhile longer...
We ordered:
Eggs Benedict with salt fish fritters
Ham hock on toast with crumbed Parmesan egg
On the side hash brown & avocado
Coffee was great as we are fans of The Block so we knew that and the food would be great.
The ham hock was delicious the salt fish fritters looked like sausages!.. but were actually smoked fish cakes and were nice the only option missing for the eggs bene was salmon.
Great to have a new cafe option locally just felt needed someone more experienced on the floor.
It's the new kid on the block and we definitely gonna be returning. The food here is so yum well the one we order . So can't wait to come back and try the rest 😋 staff here and great and helpfull . child was happy with his food and said that his tummy was happy 😂
Very ambitious place in the middle shops/takeaway
The pork hook on toast, excellent, great flavour, and i am impressed with the parmesant coated poached egg
Green smoothie is one of the best in AKL
French Toast with Walnut Panna Cotta, Ham Hock on Toast with Parmesan crumbed Eggs and Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict are just a few of the offerings from the new local eatery that's opened up in the heart of Avondale.
From the creators of The Block in Blockhouse Bay, it appears these guys have a knack for opening up stylish cafe's in the heart of suburbia. In turn, saving us suburbanites a trip into the CBD for good food on weekend mornings.
Celebrating the first day of redundancy, we started with a bottle of pre brunch bubbles. As you can tell from my mentions of the food already, these guys have a knack for grabbing your stereotypical brunch options and putting their own spin on it. The results are visually sensational, the flavours are complimentary. You get the feeling that it's a treat to eat here, pure and simple.
My dish, the French Toast with Walnut Panacotta served with an Orange jam. The Orange jam is less jam like and more of a sauce, it's bitter which off sets the maple well, however the amount was overpowering for the dish, as a whole the dish was tart. I ordered a side of bacon with the dish, had I not, I'm certain I would have left slightly underwhelmed.
The Ham Hock on Toast with Parmesan crumbed Eggs was served on a rustic slab of toasted sourdough and generous serving of Ham Hock meat, perfection!
Browne St. sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the $2 shops and cheap takeaway stores of Avondale. If this is the start of gentrification ..... Gentrify me.
Went here for brunch with my family. Was super busy & a great atmosphere. Had a 15min wait for the table which was fine as we all enjoyed a coffee and checked out the layout. The service from the maître’d was great and made sure we felt looked after. The food was delicious, I had the beef udon which was super tasty. Quite rich but would definitely order it again.
Great new addition to Avondale, will be back soon!
Really yummy coffee !! And lovely service .
Meal was yummy and came out super fast as I was in a rush.
Great place would love to go there again
Best mince on toast I have tried recently. Mince is so flavourful and grainy. And great croissant with cheese and ham. Lots of ham.
I liked the vibe as well, cool music and very friendly stuff. I think I found a new place for brunch out-west.
Update August 2023: Still good overall but the fried chicken this time was a bit too greasy.
Consistently amazing food! You can order anything and be satisfied with whatever you order. I ordered the fried chicken burger today, and the chicken was crispy and juicy. Everything in the burger complemented each other beautifully.
The food here was amazing, great staff and service and the coffee was really great too. They are accommodating and friendly. It's on the more expensive side but the portions are good
Love the menu
Great coffee, good service,& love the food.
Pretty looking breakfast & taste very delicious. Been here a few times already
Update : October 2023 .
Still great.
I ordered donut french toast 4x already . Tried pork belly tacos, great taste- fair price! Maybe not suitable for me to order this at 8 am 😂
Cool menu, friendly service, beautiful interior. I'm a returning customer because I've thoroughly enjoyed all my visits here so far.
I recommend their Ginger-nutty Granola and Pork Belly Taco. So much flavor and nicely presented.
I normally like to visit either before 9am or after 2pm on weekends to avoid the busier dining hours.
This place was absolutely bumping on the morning I visited, great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful in arranging some extra seating for us. The food and coffee were great!
Browne St. is quickly becoming one of my favourite spots in Auckland. The staff are always friendly and chatty. I was pleasantly surprised by their hot wings. The breakfast menu is amazing, with everything from mac n beans, to turkish eggs, to even the full huntsman. All delicious - my only issue is not being able to eat everything on the menu!
Hidden gem. We happened to be staying around the corner and stumbled upon this place for breakfast and returned for a 2nd round.
Delicous food and coffee, couldn't fault it.
What a lovely place and lovely people. After getting off a flight at 2am, having a couple of hours sleep and just before getting in the car up north on the way to be with a terminally ill parent, walking into this lovely place with friendly and kind service and delicious food, that they did takeaway and even made up a little meal for my 8 year old, was exactly what I needed. Delightful, nice work team 💕
Great place to sit and eat,
staff really great and friendly and excellent service
I had the fried chicken eggs bene and it was amazing well priced and great portions would recommend this I will definitely be coming back
