This place has got one of the best xiaolong bao around this area. This is probably the only reason we would come here. Their portions are pretty small but also the price reflects this small portions.
It does get busy around lunch times and the xiaolong bao do run out so If you’re after the xiaolong bao then make sure you come early.
Lastly, there’s minimal staff on during lunch times so don’t expect great service, everything is self service.

The food was pretty decent. I especially love their sweet and sour fish and then shanghainese style pork.

The service is kind of mediocre as the staff do not speak any other language apart from mandarin.

Great ambiance, pretty high ceiling so we could actually play badminton in here if we book out the place.

One of the best shanghainese restaurants I've ever been in NZ. Brings me the memories of home, the flavour of my childhood, the owner is very nice and funny. Great family restaurant.

My go-to Shanghainese place for my family, we love the taste of home town. Qian mentang do the best sheng jian and xiao long bao, honestly delicious and their rice cake is also a house favourite. I tried the shao mai this time too and was very pleasantly surprised about how yummy and generous the servings are. As per usual, we end the meal with pumpkin pie/bing. The waitress is super friendly, not everyone will nod to the service here but I have never had a bad experience. Always craving to come back!

This was our 2nd time here and always impressed with their cooking. Not a big plate of food but they took food very seriously and loved every dish. They serve Shang Hai cuisine and I will see myself come back with family quite often. Not many bread to go with their sweet pork so ordered a 2nd portion of bread, should have steam them a bit longer but rest of dishes are amazing.

My family are from shanghai and would drive all over Auckland for good shanghai food to remind them of home.

They discovered this restaurant and just had to visit, obviously we over ordered 9 dishes between 5 people. The service isn’t great and seem to be short staffed. We didn’t make a booking and waited about 30 min for our table. They forgot our teacups and brought us uneven chopsticks.... but! My family really enjoyed the food. Tastes authentic and the owner/chef came out to help us with our order too.

We didnt plan to have lunch here at all, it happen that we walked pass as we went to the chemist next door, we saw a perfect picture of xialungbao with chinese characters words on them.
Since I love xialungbao and we are in a hunt to find the best in Auckland. I am sold! We went in when they almost closed (but luckily still managed to be served).

So this when things get tricky. The lady that served us were both nice and kind however language certainly was a barrier, we cant speak chinese and tried to ask about dishes in the menu. Anyway long story short we order using pointing the menu style, so I spell the dish as well as point to the menu.

We ordered xialungbao and vegetables bun, unfortunately the lady that took our order must be just briefly seen my finger without hearing what I said and not repeating our order. We ended up with xialungbao and wonton soup served to us. I got confuse, but then confirm as we predicted wonton soup locate next to the vegetable bun in the menu so she misunderstood our order.

Anyway their xialungbao worth come back for, the skin texture probably the best in Auckland. I prefer more ginger taste in the soup and filling, but pretty happy with what I got. Despite of the wrong order we didnt make a big fuss and ate the wonton soup anyway, thought the wontons filling taste quite good.

Price was ok and restaurant quite spacious. Only tips ensure you repeat your order if not ordering in chinese and do order their xia lung bao.

Good ambience, reasonable price and really nice and authentic foods. We were just passing by and surprised to see this new restaurant (maybe not new anymore but we just didn’t know it was there?) So why not have a try? Ordered stir fried chicken gizzards, steamed soup dumplings and chicken with yam and bamboo shoots. The steamed dumplings are the best in the East Auckland, no questioning! The bamboo shoots were not winter ones and tasted like canned food, but overall the dish was still super urami!

Excellent food, deciding whether to book here for CNY 18? Setting is modern & chic. Dined during summer and the large automatic doors allow the cool breeze in similar to trade winds. Need to book in the evening for this place

My Shanghainese workmate told me about this restaurant. The Restaurant serves Shanghai cusine and decorated with some old cigarette posters featuring Shanghai female singers.

Pretty much everyone orders the famous Xiaolongbao (Shanghai Dumplings). I'd rate these the best Xiaolongbao I have had in NZ, why? Because most places fail with the dumpling skin making it too thin so they rip or leak, here they are just right so they don't break easily and are not too chewy. Then inside there is a rich soup with a pork mince centre.

Most non Shanghainese probably don't know how to eat the dumplings correctly. I didn't realise until my workmate showed me the correct way to eat them, it saved my from spilling the soup or burning myself.
So you're supposed to place the dumpling in a little saucer with some vinegar in it. Let the dumpling cool a bit, then pick up the dumpling & bite it a little & drink the soup. Finally eat the dumpling.

There are a number of other dishes I have enjoyed like the Pan Fried Buns (contains soup too) and Stewed Pork belly with Taro.

This is a place I would come just for the Xiaolongbao.

A small Asian restaurant provides very traditional dishes at a very reasonable price. Don't expect 5 stats services. Just enjoy the food.

Lovely place with nice decor and ambiance. Absolutely loved their dumplings!! It just melts in the mouth. Right size and their dipping sauce is so good. Their sweet n souf pork was so different. Not like the usual red ones that you get. Must try!

Grilled Potato in chilli pot was the best thing, the fried noodles were really good and the dumplings were nice but I'd probably get the spicy ones next time. They have a great vegan menu and other vegan options in the other sections too. We were really happy and satisfied with the food we received. Look forward to going again.

Nice little restaurant with an extensive menu and fast service. The flavour of each dish was distinct and prepared with care. Criticisms would be that there is no alcohol available and the BYO status was unclear. Also, as an international traveller, be aware that this restaurant does not accept credit card of any kind.

Came here for a quick dinner with my partner. We ordered the braised beef and beef tendon noodle soup, - the beef was soft and the tendons were so tender! Soup was delicious and noodles complimented everything very well. We also got a plate of prawn, pork and chives dumplings (forgot to take a photo!). Dumplings were crispy and hot, filled with lots of juices from the fillings - very nice! Overall the 2 dishes filled us up very well, we were both content from the meal and we will be back for sure!

This place has the best noodles on the north shore hands down. The noodles are thick and soft, the meat is juicy and the sauce is impeccable. Decent portion for the price and the staff lady is very warm and welcoming.
