On holiday from the U.S. and craving flavor, my partner and I found Mumbaiwala on HappyCow and headed over.
The interior is bold and engaging, with a very industrial India vibe; scarlet, burgundy, khaki, intentionally distressed steel, mahogany and teak and bronze.

We are visiting Christchurch and we happened to find Mumbaiwala as the most recommended Indian Restaurant. Loved the food here. We had dahi puri, chicken biryani and mumbai express cocktail. Had Indian authentic food after a long time. I highly recommend this place.
Great food and ambience. We ordered Chicken biriyani and was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity in the taste. The portions were big enough for me and my wife (we had to take away the leftover for next day). I will highly recommend if you are in Christchurch.
Fantastic restaurant. The food is exquisitely stunning. If you have not been here get here soon. You won't be disappointed. Easily the best Indian cuisine you'll find. Flavors and spices are next level amazing.

Delicious! I got the Veg Sampler - smaller portions of 3 vegetarian dishes. All three were different, well presented and tasted great. Beautiful flavours but nothing spicy-hot. And the Cauliflower Manchurian was amazing. I don't even like cauliflower and it was the best dish!! Service was excellent:
Amazing food!! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to eat not your standard Indian food! Especially the items on the street food side were great! Food was all consistently great and came out quickly.... Love the decor and concept will be back for sure!
Fantastic Indian cuisine, best in Christchurch by far. I highly recommend their dabba for one or palak paneer, flavorsome curries that are not greasy and Three Boys brewery on tap. A++++

We we're only in Christchurch for two nights and this place was so good the first night we went back on our second evening, tried 4 more dishes and these were also delicious.
Nice place, nice ambience and nice people. The food quality and quantity was good. Neat and tidy place. Really nice and tasty preparations, according to our taste. Giving 4 stars only because of the prices, they were expensive.
Wow!!! We chose from the "Street Food" section of the menu and loved the decor of the restaurant and the authenticity of the food. Good drinks list, smiling staff, attentive host.... we're going back to sample the main dishes! This is the real deal!

Best Indian food in Christchurch after long time. Oh my god Pav bhaji “WOW” absolutely mouthwatering. Butter chicken so authentic like Delhi style:) Lychee and pomegranate mojito very refreshing (highly recommended).
