The restaurant has a nice decor that befits it as a midscale restaurant. The servers were attentive and friendly. My partner and I both ordered mild butter chickens, plain naan, garlic naan and a mango lassi. The butter chickens came with a complimentary basmati rice.
We would rate the butter chicken 8/10, tasty. The plain naan was good as expected. The garlic naan wasn't as worth it as we couldn't taste the garlic, making it more like plain naan. The mango lassi was 7/10. Luckily for us, there wasn't that much coriander in any of our dishes (we dislike coriander, which is ironic considering we chose to dine at a restaurant with its namesake).
All in all, a good Indian restaurant.
If you're a vegetarian you should try mushroom fry. I normally don't like mushrooms, but the dish they provided did change my opinion on mushrooms, I might just like them. Although I wish the music they were playing weren't so loud hehe.
Must visit for authentic Indian Food in New Zealand. Amazing Indian delicacies and gulab jamun is a must have. The ambience is also great and has great collection of Bollywood songs.
The food is amazing. The ambiance here is beautiful. If craving for Indian and home food please do visit Coriander’s.The manager here Ekam is perfect. She’ll make sure that you are served a perfect food. She’s is filled with warmth. All the staff members are we’ll trained.Do visit Coriander’s when in Christchurch.👍 👍 👍
Gets a good rating just on an extensive indian style cocktail menu... Must try them... Traditional cocktails with an indian twist. Food was hot and fresh and the bread divine. Service was very friendly but forgetful. They did forgot a couple of our dishes... But the food was so good that we did not mind
Hands down the best vegetarian Indian meal I’ve ever had. I had the vegetable posht - try it. The work mates had various chicken and lamb dishes rating as a 4/5. Naan bread light and fluffy. Service friendly and we did t arrive until late in the evening (9.40pm) and they were happy to accommodate.
One of the best Indian restaurants in Christchurch. Love the ambience and the food is great. I love the decor of the restaurant. They also provide alcohol. Service is moderate. Surely visit when you have cravings for Indian food.
Its a nice big retaurant( perhaps the biggest indian one in terms of seating place) in the center of city. Thr staff is friendly and service is good.
Must try- Special chicken kebab, malai kofta.
I would say one of those good indian restaurants u come across outside india! I was just visiting Christchurch for a couple of days and even then i went back to this restaurant ! The quantity of food they give is also pretty much large portions!
Great Indian place in the town. We’re a little late searching where to dine out but eventually made the decision to visit this place. The ambience was great, the place was buzzing being a weekend night. The service was quick and the staff was polite. To be honest the appetizers were the main deal for me and the main course was alright. We had both the Chicken Tikka and the Paneer Tikka (the veg. version) but still both the dishes had it’s own authentic taste. The breads were soft and tender and not hard as most other Indian eateries. Overall we had a great time at this place as we’re in the town for only one night. Would definitely visit this place in near future.
This Indian restaurant is at the prime location and the ambiance is really good.
Even the hospitality and service were commendable. We went there a little late around 9 pm. But still they served the food on time. We ordered chef special kebab which was lamb and chicken minced kebab. Bhuna gosht and roti. Although the price was on the higher end but it was worth.
They have really good food with a nice selection to choose from as well as vegetarian options which was great for my non meat eating friends and friendly staff, have been back twice since my initial visit and will happily come back again in the future. 😊
Ordered from the lunch menu..was amazing food. Loved the daal makhani and veg Jaipuri..though the hot means very hot so be careful. Loved the ambience, a bit loud but lively environment. Service was a bit slow probably due to the crowd.
A very nice Indian restaurant with delicious Indian dishes. The atmosphere is amazing. The service is pretty good. I like to order chicken do pyaza. The spice is not overpowering. A mango lassi compliments the heat well.
Fantastic experience from the moment we walked in the door to leaving. Food was lovely and the service was outstanding. Can’t wait to come back.

Tarka daal - 4/5. Caution Hot is v hot better stick to medium
Aloo paratha - 4/5
Overall Taste - 3.5/5
Overall service - 4/5
been here a few times now, great food! great service! one of my fav indian restaurants in chch!!
little more expensive but worth the money!!
Atmoshere was brilliant, layout and design of the seating areas were accommodating yet not 'packed'. Only draw back was that the music did interfere with easy conversing as it was too loud.
Floor Staff were very engaging and pleasant.
Food was good, if you enjoy spicy/hot food don't be afraid to ask for 'hot', 'medium' was little more than warming..
What a fantastic venue to bring my spirits up after witnessing the disappointing aftermath of nature's carnage in a humble abode of Christchurch.I expected a little from an Indian restaurant locate in Chch, but the menu was a delight - made me wonder if the outcome would be nearly as good.We ordered Stuffed Capsicum (Green bell peppers) and Baigan Bharta - both of these items are traditionally not served in the menu of a restaurant that is not confident. The breads were fresh and delicious and food was as good as any other popular North Indian restaurant. Must visit!
Often I talk about atmosphere and service first off, but let's just cut to the chase here... The food is simply AWESOME!
Now I love a good curry as much as the next guy - almost certainly more even. And I love it HOT - by which I mean "cry through dinner" and "walk home in your underwear to cool down" hot. So let's just say that I was not disappointed at all, and (while some restaurants think just adding more chilli makes it hotter) this was all about exceptional flavour... A well-rounded full-bodied heat with all the flavours of the sub-continent.
But, if you don't like the heat, this is a good thing too. After all, if you can do full flavour at "extreme" heat, then doing flavour at a more sedate pace has got to be a given.
And it doesn't stop there. The decor here is refined and beautiful, making it a pleasure to even sit in the restaurant (or outside on the balcony if you prefer). I also need to point out that they don't play back-to-back Bollywood backing tracks - the music is distinct and interesting, but doesn't get in the way of your conversation.
I also found the service to be excellent - though that may have just been the staff checking that I hadn't spontaneously combusted, but it was definitely to the level expected for the environment and food.
I do still yearn for that elusive mega-wine list, so have to hold back a half point. But this is one of my new Christchurch favourites, so look out for me when you dine here...
We went there duringr christcurch tour. Food was excellent. In foreign country, eating tasty Indian veg food was like blessings for us. You guys are doing great job. Staff was also caring .we're feeling good that ur resturant is increasing Indian food value in globle. Must try resturant in christchurch. Tasty n value for money resturant
We were the last customer on a weekday. Thanks a lot for accommodating us without any pressure as we were dining in very near to closing. Food is very nice especially Chicken Vindaloo . We would have preferred the garlic naan to be cut into smaller portions rather then the huge size normal served when we go to take away outlets. Nice and clean ambiance.
It's really hard for me to not give this place a 5 because I couldn't find any flaws on my one and which would probably be my only visit.
Had a early morning flight out of Christchurch and reached the city in the evening, famished. Out comes the zomato app and searching for places in the dead of the evening. And it was only 7:30pm. Found Coriander's and here we arrive.
This is a huge place. Capacity of maybe a 100 and it was full. After a wait of about 20 mins, we were escorted to our table by the friendly staff. The walls are bombarded with posters of Bollywood movies but somehow they work.
Coming to business, we placed our food order. Service was quick and polite. We ordered paneer tikka, kadahi paneer, dal makhani and chicken tikka masala with tandoori rotis and rice(which is served complimentary in this part of the world). Everything was top notch. And the quantities were pretty good. Just the right amount of spices ( although they do provide the option of preparing you food Hot).
The dal was creamy and both paneer and chicken were cooked to perfection. This was perfect end to our vacation. Thanks guys. Keep up the good work.
Cheers!
Walked to Coriander's from our hotel because the other Indian restaurant close by was shut that day, and what a good decision that was! The interiors are classy and overly done. Even though they were short staffed, the service was phenomenal. Being an Indian vegetarian, I usually am not happy with the Indian food available abroad but here I was super impressed. We ordered the paneer kadhai and chicken bhuna (for my non vegetarian husband). To go with it, we had the lachha paratha, few papads and pickle. The food was better than most places in Bombay!!! It had the perfect amount of spice and flavour and both my husband and I ate more than we should have. We even found the meal to be value for money. All in all, a very satisfying meal. We would definitely recommend this to everyone who wants an authentic Indian meal in Christchurch.
I decided I needed an end of the week treat and that curry was what I wanted. They've got a lunch menu and I got chicken Tikka Masala, rice, Naan, and a drink for $14 - a decent size. I ordered medium heat and that's what I got. The service was very polite and friendly.
There's so much to say about this restaurant but so difficult to express. Set up in heart of city centre of Christchurch this restaurant is a home away from home for Indian people. As soon as you step inside you get a amazing aroma of Indian flavors.......The interiors of the restaurant is classical Indian style, one of the wonder of the world, the old city portraits and yes Bollywood pics! Now the food, amazingly delicious veg or non-veg, all I can say is it's better you try anything and everything here. If you get too confused ask the owner he shall suggest accordingly. My personal fav non veg starter is lamb chops, It's just 😘. The staff is highly courteous, friendly, service is very good. For the price what they offer I will say it is worth it. Whenever in Christchurch do visit this place for food. Else you will miss something real good.
Food Quality - 5/5
Hygiene - 5/5
Service - 5/5
Price - 5/5
Great for dinner, limited of range of dishes for lunch. Not super expensive, but not cheap either. Always flavourful and good service here. This is definitely the better Corianders restaurant I have visited. Nice atmosphere, plates always warm!!
Priced at the top end for a curry house - mid 20's + per curry main. The service is excellent and it's a lovely restaurant fit out. Only two other people were eating in the time we were there on a Tuesday night. The Lamb Saag had excellent depth of flavour, the Chicken Jalfrezee had a real tang - I was glad I hadn't ordered it. Their naan is very soft, almost a fluffy texture.
Great place.. Great food.. Great ambience.
I have been here numerous times with my friends and colleagues and we have always enjoyed the food. Service is consistent and great
They are busy during weekends so I would recommend to make a prior booking..
Its like the best food I had in NZ. The palak panner over here was so good and I did not had that taste even in India. Its a must place if you are looking for some good indian food in New Zealand.
Brilliant atmosphere! Absolutely packed whenever I've been past and for good reason. The bar is nice and has a great view of the TV which was playing Indian MTV at the time which is basically the pinnacle of human achievement-- great place to wait for a table.
The food itself was delicious and served in massive portions. The naan bread was especially decadent. Only little hiccup during our service was that the server seemed somewhat new and got our dishes the wrong way around; not a big deal as we knew which was meant to have meat in it and which was not.
Beautiful fit-out. If you've ever enjoyed Corrianders in St Albans you'll find the setting here astounding with beautiful wooden floors and tiled mosaics, the plaster sculpting at the end of the dining area amazing.
Service was quick and prompt, food very very good. I did notice quite a variance in the spicing of the food despite both dishes being requested as medium; this didn't at all detract from the meal.
If I were to go again I'd probably try for the banquet options as they have a great range of selection and are reasonably priced.
Great Indian food!! We were full on our entrees and had to take our mains home lol.Great value
The food here is delicious, packed full of ingredients and flavour, love that they offer dairy-free and vegan options. We had a slight hiccup once, which the manager very quickly fixed........and I'm glad because we do enjoy it here. Our favourite dishes are the posht and the bhuna masala, so good!!
We had a lovely meal at Coriander's after a day out fishing. The food was great, and the ambiance perfect for catching up with friends. The service was somewhat confused with us having to correct the order several times. Nevertheless, it was an excellent overall experience.
Excellent food and amazing service. Best Indian food in New Zealand so far
We went here for our last night in Christchurch and food are quite delicious. My favourites are the mango lassi, best I've had in NZ. ♥️ Tandoori chicken nibbles dip in tamarind chutney is also yummy. Staff friendly and efficient 👍
There's no better Indian food I've ever tried in Christchurch, but even though we booked in advance our table wasn't certain, and when the four of us were finally seated we found it hard to hear each other in the booth we were in. It also took a very long time to be served, though service was very friendly when it came.
Once the food was in front of us all was forgiven because it is just so good. Everything was cooked well and balanced wonderfully and what we couldn't eat made for even better leftovers.
They did get some of our drinks mixed up, and too many times one of us had to go find someone to serve us, or else it would be an easy five stars. Even so, I'd definitely recommend this place without hesitation for the food alone, and their mango lassi too.
From the moment we stepped inside the aromas got us excited.
Ushered in by a lovely young fella who ended up being our waiter named Tanmay. If he is one of the faces of this business then it is a good one!
I’ve never seen so much choice in a menu.
Also their menu has many interesting facts about India woven through it and a bit of light hearted humour woven into meal explanations.
One fact I read, India holds the world record of planting 50 million trees in a 24hr period. 😳👍👏🏼👏🏼
The four of us ordered different entrees/starters and dinners and all were great!
They have four levels of ‘hot’ ( don’t exactly recall the lowest or the highest but mild being second from the lowest and hot the second to the highest… I ordered hot & I think they nailed it! Hot, but not burn your mouths taste buds hot!
Very well priced and generous proportions.
The starter I ordered was tandoori broccoli $18 which for a modest eater would have been enough for their main meal… and yummy. My main was $22 😃👍 in contrast to a cafe in Twizzel we stopped at for lunch yesterday where I paid $24 for a basic beef hamburger with some chips!! 😡
All in all I highly recommend Coriander’s.
Fabulous Indian cuisine, great atmosphere and great service. I wish them well and ongoing success.
This place has come a long way since the management changed. From 1 star food and service to 5 stars now. We were welcomed by a lovely lady and directed towards the table. We had no booking but got a really nice table. Still recommend booking ahead they get really busy. We ordered paneer tikka to share, paneer butter masala and vegan bhuna with onion kulcha and tandoori roti. We did even make some special requests like extra crispy roti and oh god our server did noted everything and indeed was delivered by kitchen. Only down side was water was not offered as we sat down but I can let that pass no issues there mistakes happen. Effort and service from the server was top notch and food was just amazing right hotness and quantity. We will be many and bring few others too!!! Good job guys
Had a lovely evening here, attentive staff and delicious food. Has a large vegetarian menu which they happily adapt to cater to dairy free or vegan dietary requirements. If you love traditional, cooked fresh when you order it. Indian cuisine Corianders should be your go to.
Nice flavours, not very spicy- asked for one hot and two medium and they were both mild? Garden salad is a joke but over all loved the meal and my leftover lunch the next day!
Thank you for hosting our work do! What GREAT service! GREAT food! So well organized and easy to deal with! A nice touch bringing out everyone's orders by names and having plenty of staff on to help move things along quickly. Awesome Atmosphere!! And plenty of food.. even extra to take home! We will be BACK! =)
This is located at walking from bus interchange. The food preparation and taste is very good. The ambience is something which is very amazing. Takeaway is cheaper compared to dine in. Please be mindful of open hours. Visited couple of times this place and both time food was excellent.
We enjoyed our experience overall and would recommend this restaurant. However, I was very surprised and disappointed to see a so-called Mastercard tip of $5.32 included on the bill that I was not made aware of at the time of payment. This is bad practice and needs to be tidied up. Tipping is not an assumed cost to dine in New Zealand.
Such a great experience! Flavours that explode in your mouth. One of the best meals I've had in a long time and well worth every penny. Easily 5 stars!
Very beautiful restaurant, it looks like amazing from the outside and also from the inside. I like beautiful design, it’s a big restaurant with plenty of space. Food has a good taste.
Staff is very friendly and give a great hospitality experience.
