Food was delicious. We went here for brunch a few ago. Staff were helpful and polite. It’s a nice, busy cafe, with good brunch food. We will go back.
It’s really busy so make sure you ring ahead and book a table! The service was nice and friendly and the food was beautiful. 10/10 would recommend.
Great vibes here with a vintage and modern feel too it. Got the bacon and egg benedict, tasted amazing with the egg just poached right and crispy bacon. Something to look at when going to a brunch or a contemporary atmosphere.
Excellent little cafe, food was great and came to the table reasonably fast. Food portion is quite large however enjoyed every little bit of it.
This was by far the best brunch I have ever had in my life! The eggs Benedict were just next level. Wanted to come again a few days later but made the mistake of it being a weekend and not making a reservation. Such a great cafe!
Travelled to Christchurch from Sydney, and not expecting to be wowed by brunch food - we were so pleasantly surprised by the amazing service, creative menus and spot on food. The baked eggs were perfectly cooked, and all the flavours compliment each other. The coffee was also one of the best I’ve tasted!
This is one of my favourite brunch spots in Christchurch and I have been more times than I can count!! I love their creative & fun menu so tried out heaps of different things or gone back to my favourites to indulge- treat yo self!! I really loved the "Kumara and Falafel Salad" as well as the "Fried Chicken on Waffles." The menu is forever changing so keeps things interesting for your next visit. Would also recommend that you book as it gets busy really quickly and you really don't want to miss out. Shout out for the beautiful presentation of the food- so hard not to take photos for the gram - @gasgtrogeeny
This little cafe was so sweet! From the entrance to the people to the food, it was lovely. The coffee I had was amazing! Served in these beautiful matte cups and a little surprise at the bottom. We both ordered eggs on sourdough which comes with a topping of different seeds, the seeds were different but went really well with that rustic sourdough bread. The service was friendly and the courtyard where we sat was nice and warm. I got a takeaway latte which wasn’t the best note to end on as it wasn’t as good as the first one but my overall wasn’t effective too much.
This cafe was highly recommended by a local and it's now highly recommended by me, a non local. I had the latte which was really good. My Smoked salmon bruschetta was unique. It had pink eggs, but so yummy. There was a heap of salmon, peas and beans (not for pea haters). Service was quick and friendly too.
Only problem would be that it'll be difficult to sit big groups. An ideal group would be 2-4.
Great service. Food is a tad pricey but it's worth it. The cafe was busy and had a good vibe to it. Would definitely come again despite getting a ticket for parking at the car park.
A perfect place to have brunch! This place was recommended to me by a friend who live in Christchurch. Their chai iced latte are really good! I would definitely come back here again when I go visit Christchurch. The staff are also lovely and friendly
Very much toned down C1 Expresso **usually quite busy in the weekend (waiting times from 30min to an hour)**
Very cute, but small cafe. The style is is quite hipster and staff seem very laid back.
Have visited a few times with the same friends, and they have enjoyed the eggs benedict each time!
Each time I visit there is usually something that catches my eye, last month it was the Shakshouka, which was delicious and had a big combo of herbs and spices which is exactly what I expect from a Shakshouka. The first time I had the pulled pork on pretzel roll it was delicious!
Definitely a worth while visit
I have been meaning to write this review for some time. My wife and I dined here for breakfast during the week and was pleasantly surprised at the unique wee space that has a number of qwerky attributes. The service was prompt and fast, we both ordered the eggs benny which was good, but somewhat sickly. The coffee was good smooth and perfect temperature. I was a little disappointed at the lack of pancakes or french toast on the menu. However, it still made for an awesome dinning experience. As we left we decided to grab two donuts from the cabnet food, which were very good and well priced for the quality and flavour. Would recommend this cafe to eat and drink at.
Stopped here with the gang for a quick breakfast before tackling the day. Place is nicely set in a wooden styled cottage with high ceilings with some nice seating outside. I chose to bring everyone here after reading a review from a few people touting it as the best eggs benedict in Christchurch. Upon entry we were greeted by friendly staff with warm smiles. The menu here is a little 'standard breakfast' and isn't really pushing any boundaries, there's only so many avocado smash and granolas you can eat before it all becomes Groundhog Day. I went for the baked eggs and a strong latte whilst my bestie opted for the eggs benedict and what is possibly the worlds toughest coffee order. They nailed the coffee. It's a bold roasted blend with subtle aromas that cut through and leave a great aftertaste. The baked eggs were a little runny than what I would expect but they had a great flavour alongside the dukkah and feta combination. It's a little pricey for what you get but still a great experience nevertheless. Would recommend.

Without a doubt, Hello Sunday Cafe in Christchurch is a celebrated eatery. Why? Because we were asked if we had a reservation for breakfast at 9AM and was close to being turned away until we suggested to taking the table outside in the front of the building! Thank goodness the weather was stunning with minimal winds.
We had heard about this place, albeit, through reviews on Zomato. We were not disappointed with the breakfast, which was good in quality and quantity, as well. The sense of humour of the owner of the place, Christopher was just spot on. . We ordered various types of eggs and it was easy to see why this joint is highly regarded. The service was nothing to be complained about and the easy ambience of the place was just right. As expected, the restaurant was busy. Would recommend highly for the fare, the ambience and the service.
Had the shakshuka and the chipotle scrambled eggs and both were beautiful (so good, photos were forgotten until half eaten or finished, whoops!) Huge servings which were appropriate for the price. The homemade tomato sauce and truffle aioli were delIghtful. Overall, the flavours of the food were stunning. Coffee was okay. Service was good with the very busy lunch rush. Will be back.
small wait time for tables as they were quite busy, but we were seated in a cute little waiting area until a table was ready for us and offered drinks etc. once seated at a table we were served by friendly staff, I ordered the chipotle scrabbled eggs and my boyfriend ordered the eggs bene. my meal was 5/5, I couldn't fault it which is usually uncommon with egg dishes. the eggs were well flavoured, and the other elements of the dish complimented them perfectly, my boyfriend also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. definitely would reccomend for a nice weekend brunch!
We had heard many positive things about this cafe and last Sunday morning after a fortuitous phonecall scored a booking. Well nothing disappointed. The interesting layout, fit out, somewhat open kitchen all contribute to an easy vibe perfect for a Sunday morning although I suspect anytime. Service was informative and well-timed. Coffee good and a bonus as it was hot! So used to the Luke warm offerings at many places. So this was all good but the food....the food was great. Two egg bennies with smoked salmon and we both really enjoyed the dish and oh what a joy the hash brown (rather than a muffin) was. I wanted it again the next morning. Apparently the Kransky offering was excellent as was the beautifully picturesque brioche. It's probably just as well we live way out of the zone as we'd be tempted to brunch at Hello Sunday way too often. Actually we all selected a cake to go also which was another good decision.
Went here with a girlfriend for breakfast the other day was sooo good! Looooved the cute little cottage feel and the smell of the smoker on in the kitchen! Was nice and warm out the back in the inside/outside area! Breakfast was super delicious I didn't care for all the greenery on the eggs bene but my friend did so take it or leave it I guess! I will definitely be back here for breakfast again I saw brioche waffles w/ meringue on the menu - I couldn't have handled that this visit but i will make sure I'm geared up for it for our next visit! I heard it's very popular so the weekend isn't a great time to visit apparently so il stick to mid-week visits!
Overall a nice experience! Staff were super chatty and nice but not in an annoying forced way! Food was good and vibe was really good too. It's a shame its a little small. Food seemed small but was filling enough
Hello Sunday is one of my favourite Christchurch cafes.
It's perfect for brunch, lunch or just a coffee and cake. The coffee is good and I love the interior. Whilst often busy, the cafe is well staffed and service is friendly and quick.
Hello Sunday has a selection Cake By Anna cakes in the cabinet, which you can't go wrong with. Recently I had a lemon and raspberry cake and it was beautiful.
The Hello Sunday brunch menu is interesting and goes beyond standard brunch fare.
I had the granola which was served with yoghurt, mascarpone and fruit. It was beautifully presented and delicious but my only critique would be that there was not enough granola in comparison to the other components.
My friend had the savoury crumpets which came in a very generous portion and she raved about it.
Food was really delicious. Jad an unbelievable pork belly roll! Best breakfast we had on our new zealand holiday. Service was okay. They forgot our coffees.
The food was amazing! The wait staff were attentive and friendly and the dishes were different from most cafes here in christchurch. Definitely coming again!
Yum! Love this place. Fab coffee, delicious fresh & exciting food & great staff. Great GF & veg options!!!! It's a regular meeting spot for myself & friends. You must try it :)
If I had to name my favourite brunch place, there wouldn't even be hesitation. Hello Sunday is fantastic. Set in a charming refurbished church with a quirky interior, it tickles your fancy in every way and more importantly, the menu tickles your palate also.
I've been to Hello Sunday twice and the charm is that the menu changes. Stock standard brunch food gets boring after a while - and let's face it, one can only do (and eat) eggs benedict so much before they all meld into the same dish. So what Hello Sunday does is avoid the cliche of typical brunch food and do something a bit more inventive, which for me is a win.
The most recent time we went was a busy Saturday morning. It was hectic and the staff were still so accommodating and friendly. After a bit of a wait, we were seated and we ordered a long black and a long macchiato off the bat. Coffee at Hello Sunday is beautifully done. The long black was just right - not too fruity, but still smooth. The long macchiato was also done perfectly, creamy and without that burnt coffee tang.
I have a particular weakness for waffles and red velvet - so perhaps this review may be a bit biased as we went ahead and ordered New York deli style waffles (ham hock with pickles, brie and greens with relish) and red velvet pancakes.
I was oh so excited for my meal. Often anticipation is followed by great disappointment. This was not the case. The red velvet pancakes were beautiful, served with cream cheese custard, freeze fried black doris plums, pistachios and more black doris plums. The crunchiness of the pistachios and the freeze dried plums mixed beautifully with the soft creaminess of the custard. And just when you thought the sweetness was a bit too much, there was just enough tart flavour from the plums coming through to marry the whole dish together.
My partner's ham hock waffle was the savoury Leonardo di Caprio to my Kate Winslet. The gentle crisp of the waffle underneath melted brie and ham provided a nice contrast to the dessert that I had basically ordered for breakfast. Sure, people eat waffles. Savoury waffles aren't a new thing either. Neither are New York deli style sandwiches. But mix the two together and I was extremely impressed with the creativity and thought behind this dish.
I'll be back the next time I'm in town.
dropped in for an early week lunch to see if the rave reviews were justified - the lunch menu leans heavily towards brekky but wasnt disappointed - tried the "special" duck egg/mozarella/chorizo/artichoke combo - superb - service outstanding - coffee excellent - will definitely return & recommend.
I definitely recommend a booking for this fantastic brunch spot in the CBD. It ranks up as one of my top brunch spots in Christchurch and one not to be missed by locals and visitors alike. There will absolutely be a wait if you don't have a booking (and maybe even so if you do have a booking and tables haven't turned over, the space is small and the wait is worth it). If you try to walk in (as we did) the staff will usher you to a waiting room in the store next door and ask for your drink order. Having the coffee while we waited helped wake us up and keep us cheery. About 30 minutes later we were seated at a small wooden table with a chair on one side and wooden bench seat on the other. My husband ordered the Ham Hock Waffles and I ordered the Avocado Smash (not listed on their online menu).
The Ham Hock Waffle was a large waffle smothered in ham hock bits and a tomato relish salad complete with melted cheese covering the waffle, chunks of soft cheese, tomatoes, rocket and sprouts. The presentation is fabulous, but the flavor is even better.
The Avocado Smash was simply a piece of multi-grain toast simply smothered in smashed avacado and topped with a poached egg, served with polenta fries and chopped cherry tomatoes on the side. Holy Yum. I didn't even want to share with hubby, but since he let me try the waffle, I had to return the favor. VERY reluctantly.
We also split a cinnamon bun, which disappeared from our plates before I could snap a photo. It was warm, gooey and fantastic. Overall, effective table turnover, presentation, wait time and taste all exceeded my expectations. You MUST try this brunch spot out!
Really lovely staff, the food was really good. Never enough seating but we didn't have to wait because someone was leaving when we came in thank goodness. I think my pancakes were burnt a little but the tater tots and eggs benny were delicious .
I came here quite a few times already with my partner and friends, one time my family came all the way from Malaysia to visit me so I brought them here. They enjoyed your food as much as I do, the café is not big so the seats get full easily. We always be sure to book a few days earlier if we do come.
A lady in Re:START told us we had to go check out "Hello Sunday". So we went. The food was decent - and the coffee was ok. I ordered a Mocha but they gave me a cap with marshmallows... .... Anyway Sarah loved the coffee bean flavour. I didn't feel the hit - but felt the low. Anyway. It's not bad
I was catching up with a group of friends and we decided to try out Hello Sunday Cafe. This little cafe may have been a 20 minute drive away but was well worth it. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is inviting, It is a restored late 1800s wooden building which was old Sunday school and interior is reminiscent of an old country church. Though we were seated in the conservatory it was a bit chilly but they provided blankets and put on a big gas heater to get us warmed up.
They have a great range of gluten free including eggs bene, potato hash and the serve Cakes by Anna which look like pieces of (mostly gluten free) art! I chose to have the Falafel with baby carrots on quinoa with a yogurt dressing. The presentation of the meal was divine and it did taste as good as it looked!
Falafel I sometimes find to be a bit bland but this one was amazing and paired perfectly with the yogurt dressing. I managed to finish it all bar the tiniest bit of quinoa, and looking around the table everyone had devoured their meals also. Oooo and I can’t forget about the coffee, my piccolo was heavenly and was served in the cutest baby mug!
Hello Sunday Cafe… I will be back for sure!

Best brunch in Christchurch by a long way. Menu changes about 6 times a year meaning there are always new things to try... But always sad when your favorite dish is taken off the menu. Very busy and often have to wait for a table. Somewhat frustrating that you can only book a table if you are a party of more than 6!!
The ambiance of this cafe is similar in style to a Wellington cafe, which is not to say it's bad, but eclectic and enjoyable for a sit in brunch. The coffee is good, if a tad over-tamped. The poached eggs were great, and the corned beef/potato/curd dish I ordered was delicious and I'll happily go back again. There was however a strange, earthy taste to this which I can only assume came from the spinach in the dish (this is the only thing dropping it in it's rating.
The cafe is a little claustrophobic and the service was fairly average as I ordered and paid for my lunch. Luckily the food was nice enough to make up for it. I really loved the quinoa salad. Perfect size and a decent price as well. Strangely our food arrived about 5 minutes before our drinks. Will probably return and hope for better service next time because the food was fantastic.
SO, SOOOOOOO flippin' good! The food is delicious, and I can never choose from the menu, really spoiled for choice! Amazing service every time as well, keep it up guys!

I love this place!! Food is always top quality, and to the people who said there is nothing new on the menu maybe you should take a proper look at their menu, cabinet and drinks!! HS cafe always changes their menu on a regular basis. It has so many things going it - the food, service is excellent genuine and friendly, the building is a renovated historic venue done with vision, class and style and you have choice of inside, courtyard and semi covered outdoor area. These guys are doing an amazing job!
The service was excellent, they were very attentive and friendly. The food and drinks all arrived in good time. I definitely recommend booking in advance as it is very popular!
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Hello Sunday. Enjoyed the ambience and the delicious food as well. The service was excellent too. Keep up the good work. We loved the pews too. Christine and Graeme Upritchard
Absolutely Fantastic!
I love this place. Every time I have been here it has been without fail, awesome. Sunday last week was the first time I ever ate a meal and we were blown away. I had the Fish Taco and my Friend had the Brioche. Both were beautiful and perfectly cooked and seasoned. They were very busy but the service was prompt and super friendly, and the food and coffee didn't take long at all. Also awesome to see them signed up with Conscious Consumers!
I will be returning whenever I get the chance!
Went here with highly health conscious wife and 10 old daughter on a busy Sunday. Hello Sunday is a small yet very well preserved old building.
We ordered the famous house made Baked Beans, Fresh fish of the Day, and Fish Taco. We were warned of a wait and for obvious reasons. Our food arrived and WOW- we all agreed this was outstanding! Fish beautifully cooked and perfectly seasoned, the baked beans easily lived up to well deserved reputation. Coffee was awesome as well. Not sure what the egg reviewer is on about (he did go on and on about egg and only egg) however we all agreed this chef and his small team really knows their stuff.
We'll be back to this, our new favourite cafe, on a regular basis.
Well done and thank you team Hello Sunday
Hello Sunday is a treat any day I reckon...
I went in recently and it's awesome! The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food... I had a ribbon pasta salad which was superbly infused with an olive oil dressing, pesto and sundried tomatoes yumo! I'll definitely do that one again. To drink I had a cider which was recommended by the staff and she was right it was spot on for what I like.
So Hello Sunday see you again and probably again & probably a few more times again after that lol :-).
Just opened a couple of weeks ago but already a popular place. Food was very fresh and very well presented and good choice of wines and beer. Had Eggs Benedict followed by a ginger cake. Both exceptional. Hello Sunday has joined my favourites list, right up there with Fleurs and Riverstone Kitchen.
Had the most phenomenal French toast of my life here!! All of the food for our party of 11 was outstanding though, and we were so thankful that Hello Sunday accommodated our Mums surprise family reunion so beautifully, even setting up the table so as not to arouse suspicion that our group of 3 was going to get a lot bigger!! Thanks so much guys, and bravo for the incredible food.
Not too crowded on a weekday morning. Staff are really friendly and both coffee and baked items are good. Their beef cheek hash is quite special and wagyu smash burger on the brunch menu are both items worth ordering. Plenty of parking at the back of the cafe.
Loved the vibe, staff are very welcoming and efficient despite the number of customers. Dog friendly. Really warm and cozy inside. We all enjoyed our Caramel Lattes and Cinnamon bun. Thank you.
We went there recently for a dinner with friends. We were impressed by the flavours of their dishes and the generous portion size. The waitress that served us was friendly and attentive too.
Absolutely divine food. All the dishes were simple but done perfectly. I’m going to be coming back for dinner in future and also check out their brunch and lunch menu.
Nice brunch place! Yummy shakshuka, eggs benny was alright. Decent coffee. Prompt and friendly service.
Loved everything about Hello Sunday. Atmosphere, staff and food. Everything aesthetically on point :) Berry Brulee Oats were insane and Hello Sunday's Eggs Benny brought tears to my eyes - in a good way <3 Thanks for being awesome. See you soon
Lovely food, a small menu but exquisitely prepared. I am a plant lover it was a highlight. Definitely be returning here.
I’ve always loved the brunch at Hello Sunday but recently visited for dinner. I had the delicious snapper and my friend had the lamb fettuccine. As per normal, service and food is excellent. It’s known to be nosy so if you struggle with excessive noise be aware.
Funky place with great coffee, and the most amazing beef cheek hash. Plated beautifully, great ambience - this would quickly become our regular haunt if we lived local.
