Great staff, lovely atmosphere. The range of vegan options was amazing. I am not vegan myself but ending up eating the vegan nachos because they sounded so intriguing and delicious. They did not disappoint!
Came here on a Saturday for brunch and the food we got was absolutely delicious. I got the avocado on toast but to be completely honest you could make something similar at home for much cheaper. My parents had the Benedict with bacon and the fried chicken benedict(?) and apparently they were amazing. Would definitely recommend!!!
During my recent trip back over the ditch to New Zealand I was charged with finding the family somewhere for lunch in Christchurch. After some googling I settled on Town Tonic, and everyone was super happy that I did!. The place itself is really lovely, with lots of natural light but also moody, cosy features. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and do special curry nights regularly as well. The menu is packed with vegetarian and vegan options which always makes me happy to see. So, this is what we ordered!
This restaurant is superb, loved the open kitchen and super friendly staff. Ordered a couple dishes to try and it did not disappoint, each dish tasted flavourful and the oysters were tasted really freshed. However the hot chocolate tasted a bit bland, whould have hoped for more a stronger/chocolatey taste in it.
ATMOSPHERE: Spacious, bright, glass windows and warm! Clean, sophisticated, black interior but not sterile.
STAFF: Nice, friendly, quite alty
FOOD: I have had a good experience and an average one. My partner and I both had smashed avo on bread (one with salmon and feta and the other with bacon and poached egg) and both were truly fantastic, a true value for money. They were VERY generous with their avo (later explained due to over purchasing) but still a good indication they use fresh food. Flavour was good and it was extremely filling. Another time I came with my friend we had the chicken waffles with mustard maple syrup. The chicken and sauce itself were great but both our waffles were hard and over cooked which was disappointing. Perhaps a better batter recipe. I also didn't like the pickled red onion but it made nice colour.
OVERALL: Would come back, they use fresh food that is locally sources which is pretty cool. Also their dinner club nights ad curry/wine nights seem awesome so will have to try that some time
we went along one night and it was quiet, the chef invited us up to sit at the bar and he guided us through a culinary adventure over the next two hours running us through the ingredients and flavours. Amazing food, cooked with love. Would recommend to all.
Really enjoyed the taco's. Been here several times, once for a lunch date and the other being after work drinks. Place was busy but seated promptly. Would return again.
I have had lunch here twice now. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Great coffee (a must). I especially love the breakfast menu with the twist, everything you expect with a little more added. Nice atmosphere and even when it is packed, you can still hear your dining partners. The french toast is scrumptious and again there is a little extra flair added.
Will be back for more
We booked a table for lunch for four. Very friendly and efficient staff. Drinks were quickly ordered and delivered. We each ordered different food, I had a breakfast item, eggs, mushrooms on toast, yum yummy yum. My daughter had the kumera knocchi which she loved. My son had an open sandwich which was demolished quickly and my husband had a cauliflower dish which he raved about. We were in and out in under an hour which was perfect as we all had work to get back too. Will be back again.Thank you for an excellent experience.
We had breakfast here and coffee, juice and food was amazing! Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and find it hard to find breakfasts that are appealing because bacon and eggs just doesn't cut it. But they had an awesome selection! I got the breakfast tacos and they were better than I expected. My partner got the mushroom breakfast and it was equally as yum! Highly recommend
Towntonic is a newish cafe in Christchurch. The decor is modern and minimal with clean lines and dark wood! But I personally love the completely open kitchen that allows you to watch the meals getting prepared and assembled. It's has a honest feel to it.
The menu isn't large but has that point of difference, not just your basics eggs on toast and a burger. They have open sandwich with your choice of slow cooked meat, Lamb Kofta Burger, poached green eggs with smoked bacon and French toast with lemon curd mascarpone with banana, real maple syrup and candied nuts. They said they can make almost everything gluten free.. huge BONUS in my book!
I had the lamb kofta burger (gluten free) and the patty was even close to being dry, it was juicy and full of flavour. It was served with a hummus which really brought the dish to life. The only downside is that the bread needed a little more toasting.
Overall it was a lovely lunch and next time I'm in Christchurch I would definitely go back here again.

Delicious food, classy and welcoming. The cool shady location hints at the busy eatery inside. Friendly knowledgable staff make it an eating experience to tell your friends about. Quirky well thought out menu takes your taste buds on a epicurean adventure. My black and white truffle scrambled eggs with delicious salmon was one to remember for me, subtle flavors and visual appeal made breakfast a winner for me.
Decor is right on with great mix of seating options and the warm atmosphere make for a complete dining experience.
Visited Town Tonic on a Saturday morning around 10 am, and unlike most Chch brunch places, the place was barely alive with only four other patrons. I was a little nervous, but we chose to stay and were seated at a tall top table by the window. I suppose the crew that visited Town Tonic into the wee hours of the morning were still sleeping off their hangovers.
Our waiter was a little quirky, but friendly and efficient. We ordered an americano and a trim flat white. They both arrived quickly. The menu is very concise which makes choosing your entree easy. There are your breakfast classics: muesli or french toast, but the rest of the menu features eclectic specialty items that are impeccably prepared: Mexican Salad, Duck Liver, French Sardines, vegetarian options or the Gourmet Croque Madame.
The croque madame was served on thick slices of bread with prosciutto "really good cheese" (their words, not mine), mustard all drowned in truffle oil with a fried egg on top. If you're not a true fan of truffle oil, this sandwhich will be a bit overwhelming by the second half, but the first half will be amazing. I ate every bite.
The large hot breakfast looked like something straight from a mexican restaurant: Mushrooms, potatoes with jalapeños, tomatoes, a fried egg. My husband licked the plate clean and said this is one of his all time favorite meals in Christchurch (he didn't even save me a bite).
We were very pleased with our breakfast option and recommend this joint to anyone in the area to check out for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks as it appears the restaurant never closes!
Couldn't fault the simple but extremely tasty sharing plates we had, the pear salad a particular hit and the service friendly and inviting, will be coming back here!! :-)
Town tonic is nicely set out. Food is made using quality ingredients. Great Eggs Benedict. The food has a real gourmet feel to it and they cater to gluten free without question. Coffee is good too they use real chocolate on their Cappuccino.
Have been in at various times of the day, still quiet since it's just opened. Great for coffee during the day and yummy sharing plate nibbles for pre show meal before going to the Court Theatre. Beetroot dish was particularly good. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff.
Pretty Amazing place. The staff is super friendly and hospitable and the food was creative and delicious. The raspberry and vanilla parfait is a must have!! It is light and creamy with vibrant bursts of raspberry. The horse fin tuna is also amazing, especially paired with the cherry tomatoes. Overall it is a great place to eat at and the presentation is beautiful!
Good food and great service. The jackfruit starter could have a deeper jackfruit flavour with less seasoning and the tuna could be fresher. Overall was a great experience.
Great spot on Lincoln Road, open kitchen, delicious cocktails (the Caramel Espresso Martini is a MUST) and refreshing mocktails. Smoked burrata was super tasty, lamb perfectly cooked (the wee agnolotti were such a great touch!), and dessert an unreal flavour combo (those orange jelly roll-ups - YUM)! Also, amazing service and plenty of parking in surrounding side streets. Thank you!!
Really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was great too. The chef puts a lot of effort into their presentation and the taste. A truly talented chef. I got the fish of the day and was pleasantly surprised by how perfectly cooked it was and sides really complimented the fish. The sauce was absolutely amazing too. A flavour explosion! Highly recommend Town Tonic for lunch or dinner! Thanks.
We had dinner on a Friday evening. We had a booking, which was just as well, as it was quite busy on arrival. We were quickly seated. We did the 3 course trust the chef option for $75 each. We ended up with the crispy truffle chicken, lamb loin and sticky date pudding. All of the courses were delicious and cooked well. Service was excellent, the food came reasonably quickly. All in all hard to find any fault. Recommended.
Really glamorous interiors and very well-insulated from outside noise! Quite a cosmopolitan and upmarket feel to the restaurant with very attentive staff. Perfect spot for a business lunch with efficient service and several tasty menu options to choose from. Very good quality food that was well-presented, thank you.
Honestly such a good experience. Food is absolutely to die for, although wish we had a steak knife to cut our meat, was very hard to cut with a normal knife! Anyway, the cocktail was absolutely gorgeous. The scallops are delicious and the rest were fantastic. Service is great too, very kind and attentive.
Came here via First table
Service was amazing - really friendly staff - lovely ladies 😁
Food was OK- my lamb was a bit overcooked and the duck, a bit too charred but overall OK
My partner and I enjoyed a lovely dinner together with a Trust the chef experience. The waiters were all incredibly friendly and the food was divine - although portions were small I was worried my partner would still be hungry however the flavours were so intense and perfect that we were so satisfied. Highly recommend! Delicious cocktails and wide selection of wines.
Good atmosphere, lovely service and great food.
Absolutely try the pumpkin chowder!
