Me & my sister went in very nervous as her son was at the hospital for surgery this one young girl was so adorable and the rest of the staff were awesome, the food is spectacular I swear we had only just ordered and our food was ready such a beautiful spot we will be back thank u so much xx
The iconic Christchurch cafe to go the popular Boat Shed cafe. It is lovely atmosphere along the Avon River and close by the Riverside walk along the Oxford and Cambridge terrace. Highly recommended.
Very efficient service. Chicken fettuccine was superb! My husband also enjoyed mixed berry muffin.
I had a perfect flat white and a delicious ginger crunch slice here. I wish I'd come here for lunch because the cabinet foods looked amazing with a great selection of vegetarian options. Nice view of the Avon river and punting. Lovely relaxed vibe with plenty of space.
If you’re looking for an “outdoor setting” during cold and wet days, this is my recommendation. Heater turned on to keep us nice and toasty. Soup was on the breakfast menu. Lady who took our order was sporting. I asked her to pick the soup for me and just key it in the system. Don’t tell me what she picked and keep it a secret. She happily obliged. How fun!
Friendly staff. Nice to have a coffee break after botanic garden just beside Avon river. Summer might be better season to visit

This place is awesome, can be romantic and very relaxing place to hang out for a talk, date, or friendly catch up for a coffee. Menu meals ranges from $20+ but they also have some light meals that is affordable like I ordered croissant for $11 and coffee prices are $4ish to $6 for large ones. It’s really nice here. Highly recommended. The parking is around the area that is $3 per hour
I was pleasantly surprised. I was probably biased as we went there after taking the punts (which was a great experience) and usually places near tourist points are a bit average. The coffee and food were excellent, and so was the service. Very friendly staff, and a cute resident cat that my daughter fell in love with. I’d really recommend this place.
Loved the number of gluten free options. Plenty of different spaces to sit, including on the deck overlooking the Avon. Coffee was nice and hot. Staff were friendly & helpful. Relaxing and enjoyable spot
A Christchurch institution! Food is delicious, coffee is good and the service is great. Staff are friendly and welcoming and I love sitting in the outdoor area in the sun watching the world go by. Conveniently located next to Avon River punting and boat hire.
Iconic cafe on the river by the Botanic gardens handy to Christchurch hospital. My curried chicken pie was delicious and my partner's tomato soup was good too. The cafe location is perfect, next to the punt and canoe hire offices. It isn't a great cafe but it is important in Christchurch.

Iconic! What is CHCH other than the famous Avon River canoes and punt? With this cafe right next door its a great place to chill. Watch all the action glide by! Bit cramped inside for my liking, and the plastic flaps/tent was a bit odd, but it was winter. Not for the romantic...unless ya love the cat!
Great food here and the covered outdoor area is right on the river, perfect to catch that summer breeze. You can see the eels right on the edge of the boardwalk and the kids love it. Recommend the punting as well, the punter we had obviously loved his job and had a personality larger than life ❤
What a lovely cafe to find! The food was tasty but the friendly staff really made this special. I loved the peaceful environment sitting next to the river drinking my coffee. We sat there for hours waiting for the outcome of a family member’s surgery in the hospital next door and not once did the staff pressure us to move on. Definitely a great cafe to visit!
