Looooved the ambiance. Went for a birthday party in the booked room and the place was polished and all staff were amazing. I had no problem with anything else except for the $16 for a Pinot noir.
Popped in for a drink after dinner at Mexicano's and it's safe to say The Dirty Land is something else. As soon as you walk through the door an immediate polished, refined and lux experience begins. It's truly novel (at least in Christchurch) to see not only the patrons dresses to the nines but also the bar staff. It took me a bit by surprise seeing bartenders in tailored three pieces but it was a welcome sight compared to most hospo uniforms. The staff are all friendly and have a wealth of knowledge about the products sold behind the bar. What impressed us the most was not the Armani he was wearing but how the bartender took the time to listen to what we wanted and delivered.
We stayed for a few rounds and opted to sit in their covered outside area next to one of the fire pits. This bar definitely feels expensive without being too unreasonable, the inside interior is dim and moody adding to the underlining seductive ethereal tones. This bar isn't the biggest either with maybe room for 85 people max which again adds a feeling of exclusivity.
TDL is the perfect place for after work drinks, impressing a client or grabbing a swanky cocktail with the girls. A collared shirt and dress shoes are a must as I was feeling absolutely out of place in a t-shirt and jeans.
Unfortunately, this fine establishment doesn't offer full sized mains (yet) however their back snacks are prepared in the Mexicano's kitchen. Make sure you get the Fried Chicken next time you're in it's delicious.
I read here that this place had great cocktails, so came to try. Not disappointed! Drank my way through 4 or 5 of their creations and adaptations, all of which I very much enjoyed 😋 Met some crazy fun locals too, who were super-lovely and invited me to join them... rather than keep apologising for their raucousness 💙
Beers and wines available as well as the cocktails and spirits, plus Mexican food available at your table from their restaurant next door. Delicious!
This is a fantastic bar specialising in cocktails, no beer on tap but a good selection in the fridge. Friendly staff, good service and attention to detail everywhere. They share a kitchen with the Mexican next door and the beef skewers with chimichurri and hot sauce were excellent. Quirky art - after which the bar is named.
Interesting place, interesting art, it has the making of a great place. They were busy on arrival. One girl looking after three areas, doing a great job, a learner bar person and one other. The place seems to do a lot of cocktails, the idea and concept was there, pricing was up there but execution and flare slightly missed.
I had a few small meals, started with the corn fritters, which were more like tough dumplings. But the sauce served with them was nice and it was not tough to chew. They were pleasant.
Tried the grilled fish taco, I do not understand why the taco was cold not even warmed….. it was ok again.
Then I tried the grilled Adobo chicken skewers. Got the nice smoky grill flavor, the peanut sauce was sweet, but once a little salt added the dish lifted (this is personal preference).
A couple of nice chilli sauces served on the table.
Music was good, mixed crowd of young and business. Lots of cool art on the walls.
Will be back to try again.
Great place to grab a cocktail. Has a big outdoor fire to keep you warm.
Delicious food which is from their sister restaurant, Mexicanos.
I had a pomegranate martini that was delicious and not too strong. It went down a treat.
The one thing you have to try when you're there are the potato skins and cheese sauce. So delicious.
It was nice, alive atmosphere, staff were friendly. Just a tad bit disappointed with the wait time for our drinks, but understandable as it was busy. Didn't get to eat from the menu so just had cocktails, also just a tad on the average side for the cocktails, honest opinion, I ordered 4 different cocktails, majority of them were super citrusy, pervy sage, pirate tea very bitter, creme brulee martini was super sweet, I think after these I didn't order any more, the prices for some of the cocktails were a bit on the over side & didn't deliver on the taste side. Half of the conversations we also couldn't hear over the very loud music so we had to yell, but it was a very hyped atmosphere so always a hit with the party goers I guess, not for some!
If you can't get into Mexicano's next door, The Dirty Land shares their kitchen and menu 👌
I loved the cosy fireplace and sophisticated vibe. Impeccable service and cocktails.
Food was fantastic, Christchurch fare has surprisingly delighted this Melbournian foodie.
Great for cocktails! Really enjoyed the Raspberry Leamington!
We rocked in on a Sunday and had a drink and we were not disappointed by the variety for drinks available. Only stayed for one, we would come back!
My first time here, this is probably now my favourite place to eat and drink, absolutely amazing! Honestly, we would order a taco, and in what seemed like the time it took them to walk to the kitchen and return, we had our food. And the flavour, was the perfect mix of texture, the right balance of ingredients, enough heat to know it was Mexican, but not overpowering. Do your self a favour, check this place out.
Delicious cocktails only took one photo but tried a range sssooooo good. From sour to dessert flavoured. Polite service and went above and beyond to accomodate our large, loud group
