Love this little cafe, seems to have a constant flow of customers and if we were living nearby i would become a regular. A wide range of options, both in drinks and food. Great customer service!
Had lunch with girl friends before walking across the street to the beach. Menu is perfect, something for everyone. Service was awesome and very accommodating. Will be back definitely!
I had the Stacy stack . Homemade potatoes rosti. Grilled tomatoes poached egg. Spinach portabella mushroom finished off with hollandaise sauce. Well present and tasty. Well worth going back.
A wonderful cafe and an absolute asset to the New Brighton area. The service is always amazing with staff going the extra mile to make customers feel welcome. Coffee is completely, reliably awesome as is the food. There is a bright and bubbly atmosphere and always a friendly face.
Great food, good service. What they have executed with the space provided is excellent, it really works as a café. Local artwork adorns the walls and the inside space is comfortable, relaxing and open. The food is impeccable and coffee is great. I have recently weened myself off caffeine and their hot drinks range is ideal. Great food, slick playlist and delicious food.

Our family made New Brighton our home a little while ago and hadn't had much opportunity to eat out as much since the arrival of a new edition to our household, but he is now old enough to let us out and Switch was one of the first places we managed to get to.
If you don't know that it's there, you could potentially miss this place. It is located at the back of the dim looking street mall that is New Brighton - head towards Countdown and you should find it. There are a few small gems in among the few shops there, and this is one of them.
The two times that we have been here, it has been busy both times. Seating isn't too compact but with it being so busy, its hard to find a quiet spot. We have headed down the end both times, where there are larger tables and it is somewhat quieter ... but the kids wee play area is in this area as well.
Food is ordered and paid for at the counter and there is a mixture of cabinet food and a menu as well. Both our meals have been breakfasts so I can only judge based on that but they have both been fantastic.
If you've read some of my other reviews, I am a coffee snob and a poached egg snob and I find it hard to fault anything to do with either of these in this respect. The staff were friendly and fantastic both times and there is very definitely a community feeling about the place.
The only reason why I did not give this place a perfect score is that unfortunately it's the victim of it's own good service and food ... it can be really noisy, hard to find a table sometimes and feel a bit hectic in there. In saying that, if you manage to get a seat without too much trouble, it is a fantastic place with fantastic food and coffee as good as I have tried in lots of other parts of the country.
When I was able to come through new Brighton every morning I would swing in here and grab a Mocha! Oh my! It is just amazing!! They not only have great tasting coffee but I would have to say some of the towns best barristers aswell!! Highly recommend to coffee lovers on the east side!!
I love this Cafe...I worked next to it when they first opened & the smell of roasting coffee drew me there a few times a day. It has expanded & the food range a bit more diverse, the coffee is excellent & always has been.....Well done
Great coffee in New Brighton! Switch roasts their own organic beans and make some great consistent coffee. I do tend to want a hot tea on occassion, and unfortantely, they only offer basic English Breakfast and Green. Would go more often if they offered a nice variety of loose blends. The cabinet food is tasty and the prices aren't out of this world. Good place to stop in, if you're in Brighton.

I've been a customer since the very beginning, 15 years or so, and always have an enjoyable experience at this cafe. Coffee, food and service all to a fab standard. Great atmosphere. Its only the music that can be somewhat dodgy sometimes - it seems like they allow someone's grandmother to select the music occasionally. Otherwise all good.
I had a meeting here last week with a sales rep. It has a great bustling vibe with lots of energy. I enjoyed the Orange Almond Cake and a Latte both amazing 😍. Great service and price. The coffee beans are also amazing! I've eaten here a few times and the food is always so lovely!

Had breakfast there the other day, had the Stacey's Stack, -holy heck it was good, my friend had her eggs medium and said they were just right. Great coffee too. Nice atmosphere. Would recommend 136%. Friendly staff, and quick service. Good job all round.
I love New Brighton, and Switch is The place for a great cup of coffee in relaxed surroundings. Patronised by....well everyone, lots retirees, mothers and pre schools, surfers..of all ages, and of course the local Firemen..Christchurch's finest.
Fairly substantial interesting snacks, and interesting sweet goods. It’s one of those places where you make your choice, are enjoying munching through it and someone at the next table gets their brunch set down..and you "think d**m I knew I should have had that" #thegrassisalwaysgreener.
I had 3 cups from the bottomless coffee pot (greedy s*d that I am) 6$nz, and was buzzing for the rest of the day.
It's where ideally I'd start every day.
Great coffee, by a barrister that takes pride in what she does. Five star positive dedication. One of the best coffees I had in NZ. Well done.
A little gem in New Brighton. Well worth stopping for a coffee, however, if you have time (and you'd be best to make some if you don't) try the food!
Whether it's one of the sandwiches or sweets from the cabinet or something off the menu, you won't be disappointed. Top this off with friendly staff and great service and you'll be wondering why you didn't come sooner? 😁👍
Just an update: This hasn't changed. If possible, it's only gotten better. You can still see the staff smiling, even under their masks and the food is still incredible. I recommend the Switch breakfast. So yummy! 😍
Another update, (lol) new menu item!! I still love the Big Switch breakfast, but the new Cherry Berry French Toast (see pic). So sweet and yummy! [insert Homer Simpson drool here] Just another reason to check it out!
I was very impressed with the meal I had....the service was good
As for the atmosphere it was busy but quite enough to have a conversation
I will definitely be back for another meal

I visited this café last week for a team building day with work. There was 16-17 of us and organizing with the café couldn't have been easier. Donna sent us a menu so we could place our orders in advance and they happily accommodated the dietary restrictions in our group.
On arrival everyone paid for their food and drinks and it all came out promptly (as promptly as making that many meals & coffee fresh would be). I originally had been a bit worried the food would have been made before we arrived and be a bit cold when we got it, but they preemptively asked when we wanted it, so everything was fresh and delicious, including the coffee! I'll definitely be going back next time I'm in New Brighton, even if just for a coffee.
Had a reservation for Mothers Day brunch as recommended. Glad we did as it was super busy. The food was so good! The coffee was lovely, staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Only feedback is ask for extra Hollandaise because it's lovely and they don't serve enough with the Stacey Stack with egg imo.
Fantastic local cafe. Great to have outdoor seating as it allows me to bring my dog. Staff have got a water bowl for her too. Coffee is great, with a good variety of cabinet food and healthy salads etc to choose from. Staff are really friendly too. Definitely recommend this place ;)
